The 74 Best Places to Eat and Stay in Anaheim

The best places to eat and stay in Anaheim, according to the experts: AAA, Michelin Guide, and Forbes Travel Guide have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. The Ranch comes out on top.

More Less

Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Poppy & Seed hold the next two places. AAA shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Los Angeles Times next.

  1. Rank 1. The Ranch

    Steakhouse

The popovers arrive with housemade tomato jam before you've even settled in, which tells you a lot about how this Anaheim steakhouse operates. Saddle-and-spur decor sets the mood at this meat-forward room, though produce from the restaurant's own farm keeps things from feeling purely carnivorous. The prime rib and scalloped potatoes are built for sharing, as is everything else, unless you've skipped lunch with conviction.

  2. Craftsman timber beams and a stone hearth the size of a small house anchor the lobby of this Disney resort hotel, which opens directly onto California Adventure and Downtown Disney. More than 900 rooms means it's never exactly intimate, but the proximity to the parks is the whole point. Tenaya Stone Spa offers a quieter corner when the churro fumes get overwhelming. Cast members handle everything with unsettling cheer, which is either magical or unnerving depending on your caffeine level.

  3. Dinner inside a working greenhouse, with outdoor tables ringed by citrus trees and herbs, sets the mood before a plate arrives. Poppy & Seed is a fine dining room in Anaheim's Packing District built around organic, locally sourced Southern cooking, the kind where shrimp and grits shares a menu with steak tartare brightened by pickled sea beans. A James Beard semifinalist, it draws a crowd that dresses up without overdoing it and lingers well past sunset.

  68. Rank 68. Kareem's Falafel

    Middle Eastern

The house falafel recipe here is so closely guarded that the family started selling it wholesale rather than let anyone reverse-engineer it at a competitor's table. This cash-friendly falafel shop sits in Anaheim's Little Arabia District and gets properly packed at lunch, so the outdoor patio exists for good reason. The baba ganoush and hummus are the moves, though the feta fries suggest the kitchen isn't precious about tradition either.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
