The room bends at a wacky angle where Jackson Ave meets the Pulaski Bridge, which sets the tone for this coffee shop that plays AC/DC instead of something earnest. Sweetleaf roasts its own beans and does its own baking, so the pastry case is stocked and the coffee hits hard. A laptop-only alcove keeps the workers corralled, the main bar is for lingering, and the back room has a turntable you're welcome to use.

This sprawling Russian restaurant is modeled on the festive seaside dining culture of Odessa, which means the menu runs from smoked fish and shish kebab to foie gras, and the room is never quiet about it. The crowd brings its own occasion. The gratuity situation is explained on the bill, which is the kind of transparency you appreciate after the fact.

Kinda Nice is a Williamsburg cocktail bar from two Grand Army veterans who describe the vibe as late-night diner meets dive bar, which mostly means the drinks lean savory and strange in satisfying ways. A downstairs dive called Shenanigans is coming, if you need somewhere to spiral afterward.

Beef noodle soup, lion's head meatballs, and broth poured to the rim say everything the bare room doesn't.
