  13. This is a Korean-French set-menu dinner on rue Oberkampf where the dishes arrive unannounced and a server comes back afterward to ask what you think you ate. The veal might be pork, the cherries might be beets, and nobody minds if you're wrong. It's a fixed-price evening for a date or a friend who likes a game with their supper, and best left to anyone who doesn't fuss about being told what's on the plate.

  99. Rank 599. Arnaud Nicolas

    Modern French

A delicatessen counter greets you at the door, which tells you something about where the evening is headed. This is a charcuterie-forward restaurant near the Eiffel Tower, where the chef, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, builds tasting menus around pâté en croûte and house terrine alongside more involved cooking. The room is elegant without being hushed, the service is polished, and you can buy provisions on your way out, in case dinner wasn't quite enough.

  100. Rank 599. Caïus

    Bistronomic French

Dark wood paneling and ochre chairs in a residential corner of the 17th give this modern bistro the feel of a very well-decorated local, until you notice how beautifully everyone is dressed. The short, evolving menu comes from an Italian-born chef who trained in avant-garde kitchens and then made the elegant decision to calm down. Discipline and simplicity are his words for it. The pastry chef shares the philosophy, which is a relief.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
