The best Italian food in Croatia, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide, 50 Top Italy, and The 50 have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Agli Amici Rovinj comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Zagreb and Rovinj.

Rank 1. Agli Amici Rovinj
Italian
The terrace opens toward a scatter of green islands, and as the light drops, a floodlit church dome floats up on the old-town peninsula across the water. This two-Michelin-star fine dining restaurant on Rovinj's marina promenade runs two tasting menus, one devoted to the sea, one to the land, both leaning into Istrian truffles, local olive oil, and fish from small boats. The Udine mothership has serious credentials, and it shows.

Rank 2. Franko’s Pizza & Bar
Neapolitan Pizzeria
Zagreb doesn't have an obvious claim to pizza fame, but Franko's has been quietly changing that. The pizzeria runs three distinct styles, Neapolitan with a pillowy, wood-fired crust, thin Roman, and old-school Zagreb, plus calzones that hold their own against the Neapolitan standard. The room leans modern with sofas folded in as décor. It ranks on both 50 Top Pizza Europe and 50 Top Pizza World, which tends to bring in visitors who planned the stop in advance.

Rank 3. Basta
Neapolitan Pizzeria
Tucked into a courtyard off the city center, Basta calls itself a gourmet bar rather than a pizzeria, and it mostly earns the distinction. The dough is hand-stretched and Verace Pizza Napoletana certified, coming out light enough to make you reconsider everything Croatia has ever served you on a plate. The menu runs from classic Neapolitan pies to gourmet riffs, with cold cut platters and focaccia filling the gaps. Service is quick and genuinely warm.
