The 85 Best Places to Eat and Drink in Indonesia

The best places to eat and drink in Indonesia, according to the experts: The 50, the Spirited Awards, and Difford's Guide have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Modernhaus comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Bali and Jakarta.

More Less

Cosmo Pony and August hold the next two places. The World Coffee Map shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with The 50 next.

Cuisines

  1. Rank 1. Modernhaus

    Cocktail Bar

The name splits into Modern and haus, the Indonesian word for thirst, which tells you most of what you need to know about the vibe. This cocktail bar sits above a French restaurant in Senopati, laid out more like a living room than a bar, with no real wall between guests and the people making drinks. It landed at number twelve on Asia's 50 Best Bars and took the Best New Opening award. The mid-century furniture and the contemporary pours in hand make for a quietly confident combination.

  2. Rank 2. Cosmo Pony

    Cocktail Bar

Zine-style cocktail menus are a choice, and at this bar inside the Grand Hyatt Jakarta it mostly works because the drinks behind it do too. Cosmo Pony is the Singapore group Jigger and Pony's first outpost abroad, and the room leans into mid-century lounge with marble, brass, and enough warmth to feel more like an evening salon than a hotel pit stop. Fruit-forward cocktails nod to Jakarta's old trading-port roots. It holds a spot on Asia's 50 Best Bars.

  3. A 50-seat fine dining room in Jakarta's Sequis Tower where a large open kitchen takes up most of the real estate, so dinner comes with a full view of the team at work. The chef's counter looks directly into the pastry section, overseen by Asia's Best Pastry Chef 2026. The menu draws on Indonesian flavors reworked through French technique, childhood memory and all. August holds a spot on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants.

  4. Rank 4. The St. Regis Bar

    Modern Cocktail Bar

The Smoky Martini arrives under a cloche and exits in a cloud, which tells you everything about the room's ambitions. This hotel cocktail bar in South Jakarta deals in Art Deco surroundings, a live jazz band most evenings, and a menu routed through New York cocktail history. It holds a spot on Asia's 50 Best Bars. The crowd tends toward well-dressed and unhurried, the kind that orders a second round without checking the time.

  5. Fourteen seats, walk-ins only, and a strict no-smoking policy in a city where that's almost a radical act. Carrots Bar is a tiny subterranean cocktail bar tucked into the basement of Fairgrounds SCBD, where the menu rotates and organizes its drinks by potency rather than spirit. It landed on Asia's 50 Best Bars, which is about right for a room this small with ambitions this clear. Go early, or accept the sidewalk.

  6. A rooftop food forest, a fermentation lab, and an underground mushroom chamber set the tone before you've eaten a bite. This plant-forward, multi-course fine dining restaurant in Ubud pulls almost entirely from Indonesia's own biodiversity, with hyper-local and foraged ingredients running through a menu that can stretch to twenty courses. Concrete and modular outside, rice-field views through oversized windows within. It holds a spot on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list.

  7. The name means "five" in Sanskrit, a nod to the five pillars the bar is built around: food, drink, music, hospitality, and design. It's a cocktail bar near Jakarta's business district with a farm-to-table mindset that runs all the way into the glass, sourcing from local farms to put Indonesian twists on classics. A margarita arrives with curry leaf; a Negroni riff leans on pandan. Asia's 50 Best Bars has taken notice.

  8. A skylight cuts through raw concrete and steel beams in this South Jakarta cocktail bar, giving it the calm of a Brooklyn loft dropped into Kebayoran Baru. The plush armchairs are clearly load-bearing, structurally speaking. Drinks lean familiar but land with a quiet detour, the kind of place where a regular's offhand request becomes a menu item. It holds a spot on Asia's 50 Best Bars.

  9. Rank 9. Wishbone Bar

    Cocktail Bar

Deer antlers punctuate the chandeliers at this dim, leather-heavy cocktail bar on the second floor of Semarang's Bowery Building, where the mood lands somewhere between jazz club and cigar lounge. Live music and a serious selection of rare spirits are both reliably on offer, and the cigar menu gets equal billing. The kind of place where you sink into an armchair and stop watching the time.

  12. A tasting menu restaurant in Jakarta's business district, Esa is where chef Aditya Muskita runs a 14-course evening menu he calls "New Jakarta cuisine," threading Indonesian culinary traditions through a fine dining lens. Lunch is a la carte if a full tasting menu commitment feels ambitious. Kluwak-nut sauce, charred squid curry, and salmon roe tartlets make the argument more eloquently than the label does. It landed on The 50 Discovery list.

  15. A Mexican bar and dining spot dropped into Seminyak's party circuit, Motel Mexicola leans hard into the fantasy: tropical colors, agave spirits in several forms, and cocktails with names that dare you to order them out loud. The drinks list runs from mezcal to a coconut mojito served with a prosecco chaser on the side. Tacos and churros keep things moving. It's the kind of place that fills up fast and shows no signs of guilt about it.

  16. Rank 12. Night Rooster by Locavore NXT

    Seasonal Cocktail Bar

Low-slung sofas of recycled tropical wood and the vague feeling of a colonial planter's club set the mood at this cosy cocktail lounge in Ubud. The bar team distils rice wine, ferments fruit, and makes their own vermouth and bitters, so the drinks are less "local ingredients" as a tagline and more the whole point. Seasonal Balinese fruits and vegetables turn up in every glass, which sounds like a lot until the first sip.

  17. The name means "archipelago" in Javanese, and the kitchen takes that literally, pulling regional dishes from across Indonesia's 17,000 islands that rarely make it onto menus outside their home provinces. It's a stylish sit-down restaurant in Ubud, all light woods and rattan, where a brigade of Indonesian-born chefs works through traditional flavor combinations most visitors have never encountered. A spin-off of Locavore NXT, from the same team next door.

  18. An amphitheater curve of antique shutters frames the Indian Ocean sunset, which is either a coincidence or the whole point. Potato Head is a beach bar in Seminyak where the cocktails are built to a precision you'd expect somewhere without sand between your toes, then quietly spiked with local ingredients to remind you where you are. They've cut all single-use plastic too, serving drinks in coconut shells and reusing citrus husks for syrups.

  21. Rank 12. Segno

    Japanese Cocktail Bar

Hand-cut ice and thirty-plus signatures behind a discreet door in Canggu: this is a serious cocktail bar run by the team behind Jakarta's Koda, and it shows. The room leans into caramel and chocolate tones with soft lighting and nothing decorative that isn't also doing a job. Pandan, lemongrass, and black tea turn up in the drinks with quiet intention, and the team will build something bespoke if you'd rather not choose.

  22. Rank 24. Casa Cuomo

    Neapolitan Italian

High ceilings, enormous chandeliers, and a black-and-white marble floor set the scene at this Neapolitan Italian restaurant in South Jakarta. Chef Salvatore Cuomo built his name bringing Neapolitan cooking across Asia, and Casa Cuomo sits at number 20 on the 50 Top Italy global list. The bar is a destination on its own, and the wine list is priced without the usual Jakarta markup. Dress smart; the room invites it.

  28. Rank 55. Beintema’s

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

A wood-fired Neapolitan pizza spot in West Java, certified by the True Neapolitan Pizza Association and landing at number 42 on 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific. The dough is thin, well-leavened, and light, with toppings that stay balanced rather than competitive. The family runs it with the kind of warmth that makes a simple room feel looked after, and the Italian breakfast draws people in before the ovens are even properly hot.

  29. Rank 55. Pizzeria Cavalese

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

A Neapolitan-style crust rolled thin and finished light enough to flex under the weight of fried calamari is the signature move at this Italian-Asian pizza spot in North Jakarta's Sunter district. The chef trained in a Trentino village and brought that sensibility home, blending timeless pies with bolder, spice-forward riffs. Pasta and risotto fill out the menu for anyone not in a pizza mood. It ranked 34th on 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific.

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
