The best Italian food in Seoul, according to the experts: Michelin Guide, 50 Top Pizza, and Eater have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Borgo Hannam comes out on top.

More Less

Doughroom and Egg & Flour hold the next two places. Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with 50 Top Pizza next.

  3. Fresh pasta pulled from two ingredients, eggs and flour, is the entire thesis here, and the kitchen commits to it with capellini, pappardelle, tagliatelle, and more, each matched to its sauce rather than left to fend for itself. This is a cozy Italian pasta spot tucked above Haebangchon, and the window seats looking out over Namsan at dusk have a way of making the meal feel longer than it is, which is the point.

  4. Massimo Bottura's global osteria chain landed in Seoul, and the kitchen here is run by a Korean chef who spent two years cooking in Italy before coming home. The result is contemporary Italian with a very local accent, served à la carte or as a tasting menu in a dining room done in soft greens with European tableware that quietly signals the bill. The pastas are where the two culinary traditions seem happiest together.

  5. The semi-dried fresh pasta is the thing to watch at this snug Italian ristorante in Mapo-gu, where a husband-and-wife chef team turn Korean seasonal produce and seafood into something that reads unmistakably Italian. The room is unfussy and the cooking is not, which is a combination that tends to draw regulars who feel personally offended if the menu stops changing. Comfortingly low-key, quietly exacting.

  7. Rank 1. PERIGEE

    Contemporary Italian

Fresh pasta made entirely in-house is the through-line at this contemporary Italian restaurant in Gangnam, where shapes like cavatelli, pici, and andarinos show up in combinations that feel familiar and quietly surprising at once. The name comes from the orbital term for a satellite's closest point to Earth, which is either poetic or the best restaurant-naming backstory in Seoul, depending on your tolerance for astronomy metaphors.

  8. Rank 1. Pizzeria Marione

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

Neapolitan icons on the walls, a wood-fired oven doing the heavy lifting, and a menu that swings from classic margherita to a bottarga-and-gorgonzola pie for the adventurous. Marione is a Naples-style pizza spot tucked beside Seongsu-dong, Seoul's self-appointed Brooklyn, which means the neighborhood already has opinions about cool. The Italian drinks list, short and well-chosen, keeps things honest. It landed at number 18 on 50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific.

  9. Rank 1. Rialto

    Northern Italian

Northern Italian cooking on the second floor of a Gangnam side street, where the menu is short by design and pasta is clearly the point. The kitchen leans into butter and cheese with the kind of confidence that doesn't need explanation, and the tajarin and cacio e pepe are the dishes regulars quietly rearrange their evenings around. Pickled ponytail radish shows up and somehow earns its place among all that richness.

  10. Rank 10. Spacca Napoli

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The chef trained in Naples long enough to pick up an Italian nickname that stuck, and he brought both back to Seoul. Spacca Napoli is a Neapolitan pizza restaurant on the second floor of a modern building in Mapo-gu, the dining room hung with Maradona portraits and Vesuvius kitsch in a way that somehow reads as affectionate rather than themed. The dough is tall, soft, and properly leavened, cooked in a wood-fired oven and served in slices.

  11. Rank 11. Zenzero

    Italian Ice Cream Shop

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
