The Best Pan-Asian Food in Belgium

Sections

Tap another section to add it. All sections

The best pan-Asian food in Belgium, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide, The 50, and Le Fooding have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Hertog Jan at Botanic comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Antwerp and Brussels.

More Less

Correspondance and LESS Eatery hold the next two places. The Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Le Fooding next.

  1. Concrete walls and muted grey tones set the scene for this intimate two-Michelin-star creative restaurant inside Antwerp's Botanic Sanctuary Hotel. The chef's Asian obsessions run through everything, and the kitchen asks guests not to post photos, which somehow makes the meal feel more like a secret. The cooking follows the motto "simplicity isn't simple," which is either profound or a warning that dinner will take a while, probably both.

  2. San Degeimbre's contemporary brasserie sits inside Brussels' converted rail freight terminus, a post-industrial complex that still feels faintly surprised to be hosting dinner. The menu roams Belgium, Peru, and Asia without asking permission, so waterzooi turns up with a jolt of yuzu and duck magret finds itself alongside soy and garlic in an orange sauce. The mezzanine counter overlooking the open kitchen is the seat to ask for.

  3. Rank 2. LESS Eatery

    Pan-Asian

The name is an acronym, Love Eat Share Smile, which tells you something about the vibe before you've even sat down. This casual urban eatery on 't Zand runs a wide menu with a strong Asian lean, moving from steak tartare with a Korean kick to Hong Kong-style turbot. You can eat at the bar or settle in for the full spread. Bruges locals pack it accordingly.

  7. Rank 7. Couleur Rouge

    Fusion Pan-Asian

A fusion restaurant in central Eupen where the kitchen applies quiet Asian sensibility to European ingredients, duck appears alongside a vegetable maki, and pork brochettes arrive marinated in an oriental style. The bright room opens onto an interior garden and a terrace that convincingly suggests somewhere less landlocked. It reads as a relaxed dinner spot, the kind where the cooking has a clear point of view without announcing itself too loudly.

  8. Rank 7. CRKL

    Modern Pan-Asian

From the outside, CRKL looks like a concrete villa that got a bit too ambitious. Inside, soft pastels and a patio aperitif change the mood entirely. It's a creative restaurant where the kitchen leans into Belgian produce but drifts freely toward Asia and the Mediterranean. The cooking is fragrant and layered, and the wine list skews Belgian, which feels like a flex worth respecting.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
