The Best Chinese Food in Belgium

The best Chinese food in Belgium, according to the experts: Le Fooding, the Michelin Guide, and The Infatuation have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Ni Shifu comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Brussels and Antwerp.

More Less

Alley Mian and Qin hold the next two places. Le Fooding shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with the Michelin Guide close behind.

  1. The chili oil here is the real opening statement: Sichuan cooking in full, unapologetic form, with a menu long enough to cause genuine decision paralysis. This casual, no-frills restaurant in Antwerp earns its Michelin Bib Gourmand on the strength of honest, fiery Chinese cooking, the kind that has regulars leaning over bowls of rich fish soup or pork braised in fermented black beans. Loud, lively, and very easy to spend too little money at.

  2. Rank 2. Alley Mian

    Chinese Muslim Noodle Shop

A cook pulls and folds noodles to order in full view of the dining room, which sets the tone for everything at this small, no-reservations noodle shop near the Théâtre de la Monnaie. The broth is Lanzhou-style, built deep and left unadorned. Michelin gave it a Bib Gourmand, and the lunch queue most days makes the argument more plainly. Go early, go hungry, and don't expect to linger.

  3. Rank 3. Qin

    Cantonese

Chinese lanterns and dark wood set the mood at this Cantonese restaurant inside Hotel De Keyser, where the kitchen's calling card is an extensive roster of house-made dim sum. The menu runs from Xiao Long Bao to Sichuan pepper duck to a classic hotpot, the last requiring a reservation, which feels appropriately ceremonious. The cooking skews traditional with just enough modern adjustment to keep things from feeling like a history lesson.

  14. Rank 14. Car Bon

    Sichuan

A Sichuan restaurant on the Chaussée de Waterloo that holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, Car Bon is exactly the kind of small, packed neighborhood spot where the menu goes on forever and the tables turn fast. The kitchen leans into the numbing heat and deep aromatics of Sichuan cooking, and the regulars filing in early know the drill. Book ahead; the room is small and the word is out.

  15. The dining room runs along the bank of the River Meuse, so every table gets the water. It's a Chinese restaurant focused on Zhejiang cooking, run by the Chen family, and the menu is long in a good way, moving from house-made dim sum through lacquered duck with crispy skin and the pancakes that go with it. Portions are generous, prices are kind, and the Michelin Guide has given it a Bib Gourmand to say so officially.

  16. A bright, modern Chinese restaurant on a busy country road outside Antwerp, where the menu runs long enough to cause genuine indecision. The kitchen leans into authentic technique and a particular gift for sauces, while the front of house keeps things warm and unhurried. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, which fits: the cooking is careful and the prices are not trying to punish you for noticing.

  17. Rank 14. Station 3

    Chinese

A Chinese restaurant tucked into a quiet Flemish suburb, where the menu runs from whole steamed seabass to a serious roster of lobster preparations and a vegetarian lineup that doesn't feel like an afterthought. The kitchen leans on precise timing and bold aromatics rather than spectacle. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks with the cooking-to-price ratio. Low-key room, high-effort plate.

  18. Rank 14. Stone Dial

    Contemporary Chinese

An old wood-burning stove anchors the dining room of this contemporary Chinese restaurant, which occupies what may be the oldest building in Uccle. The setting is a little theatrical, all dark wood and vintage quirk with chopsticks on the table, and the menu leans into the contrast: colorful, generous plates of traditional Chinese cooking. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks for a place that feels like a find without making you feel like you're being let in on a secret.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
