The best sushi in Switzerland, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide has weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Shin comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Geneva and Zürich.

Asia and Nagomi hold the next two places.

  1. Rank 1. Shin

    Contemporary Pan-Asian Sushi

Eight seats at a counter, one eight-course menu, no decisions to make. Shin is a Michelin-starred counter-dining room tucked into a side street near Münsterhof, where the kitchen works through an Asian-leaning seafood menu that shifts with the seasons. The team keeps the room intimate enough that your host will walk you through every dish without it feeling like a lecture. Book early, or more likely book again, because eight covers fills fast.

  4. The Peking duck, pre-ordered and arriving whole, is reason enough to plan ahead. This Asian restaurant inside the Bürgenstock resort covers a lot of ground, with Japanese, Chinese, Thai, and Indian dishes all coming out of an open kitchen you can watch from the pass. At 800 meters above Lake Lucerne, the terrace views do most of the heavy lifting, though the food holds its own without the scenery doing all the work.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
