The best Mexican food in Las Vegas, according to the experts: James Beard Awards, Condé Nast Traveler, and Time Out have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Casa Playa comes out on top.

More Less

Milpa Mexican Cafe and La Casa De Juliette hold the next two places. Eater shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with AAA next.

  1. Rank 1. Casa Playa

    Coastal Mexican

The whole snapper arrives in tempura, trailing mole amarillo, and the room is already glam enough that this feels appropriate. Casa Playa is a coastal Mexican restaurant on the Strip where the menu works for sharing or not, which is a rarer courtesy than it sounds. The chef holds a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest. Order charred octopus, warm housemade tortillas, and whatever the table can agree on, then quietly order more.

  2. This is a casual taco and breakfast spot in a South Durango strip-mall unit where the kitchen nixtamalizes its own heirloom corn, so the tortillas arrive with a pedigree most tortillas would find embarrassing. Chilaquiles, squash-filled tetelas, and fish tacos fill the minimalist room, along with aguas frescas and a horchata matcha. The chef was a 2025 James Beard Best Chef: Southwest semifinalist, and the Strip tourists are mostly elsewhere.

  3. La Casa De Juliette is a relaxed Mexican spot in Centennial Hills, with big windows set into terra cotta walls and the kind of Tulum-style lighting that makes the northwest valley feel briefly coastal. The chef landed here after crossing paths with the Sand Dollar Lounge team over a bar. Expect street corn with bone marrow and an agua fresca that can be spiked with coconut rum.

  5. La Vecindad means "the neighborhood," and the room commits to it, with a painted sky on the ceiling, string lights, and papel picado hanging over a casual, sit-down taqueria in the Historic Commercial Center. The menu is built for groups, so expect a platter of 50 street tacos and a torta stacked with so many meats that it reads less like a sandwich than a roll call. Come hungry and bring friends.

  7. Rank 7. Tacos El Gordo

    Baja Taqueria

Handmade tortillas folded around adobada, lengua, buche, or suadero, with no basic chicken option because the menu has standards. This cafeteria-style Tijuana taco counter across from Resorts World runs until 4 a.m. on weekends, which explains the line at 2 a.m. full of people who've just remembered they're hungry. The tacos are petite, so order accordingly. Eater named it among the Strip's 38 essential restaurants.

  8. The mesquite grill and blue corn tortillas are the whole thesis here. This LA taco stand made a splashy Vegas debut after its owner shared a Super Bowl halftime stage with Bad Bunny, which is one way to announce yourself. Chicken thighs, skirt steak, marinated pork, and house chorizo are the proteins, with vegan options alongside. It's a counter spot inside a casino food hall, so dress accordingly and keep expectations pleasantly low on the ambiance front.

  9. A counter-service taqueria in Summerlin where the tacos run about four bucks and the line forms before anyone's decided what they want. Takeout is the realistic plan, though the tables have little cupholders that swing out from the corners, which feels like a lot of engineering for a michelada. The al pastor comes off the spit with pineapple, and the mushroom taco is for anyone who came with a skeptical friend.

  10. Rank 12. Tacos El Gordo

    Tijuana Taqueria

This is a Tijuana-style taqueria on Charleston with a drive-thru and a line that never seems to get the memo that it's a taco stand. Inside, each meat gets its own queue, so groups split up, order in parallel, and reunite holding paper plates like pallbearers. It runs until 2 a.m., prices stay in paper-plate territory, and the menu leans hard on beef and pork, so bring people who eat both.

  11. La Neta is a sit-down Mexican restaurant in Downtown Summerlin that went heavy on the decor: velvet booths, stained glass murals, chandeliers, and enough foliage cascading from the ceiling to suggest the plants are also on the guest list. Expect margaritas and a menu that moves from oysters and ceviche to flautas. Weekend brunch comes with bottomless drinks, which pairs conveniently with the Saturday farmers market nearby.

  12. Rank 15. Casa Don Juan

    Classic Mexican

  13. Nacho Daddy is a casual Strip-adjacent Mexican spot built around one idea, which is that a chip should never be left alone to face the world dry. The plates arrive piled high with seasoned beef, yellow queso, and beans, and there are fancier versions with filet mignon or butter-poached lobster for people who like their nachos with a mortgage. A scorpion shot is available, and it is exactly what it sounds like.

  14. Ordering here means choosing a station based on what you want, which feels like a small logistics exam before you've had a single taco. It's a casual counter spot on South Eastern, so come hungry and dressed for salsa. Fillings run from carne asada to buche, cabeza, and tripe, with soyrizo for vegetarians, all on soft corn tortillas with up to eight salsas to sort out. Eater lists it among the best tacos in Las Vegas.

  15. Rank 15. Tacotarian

    Vegan Taqueria

  16. This is a longtime Mexican restaurant on Las Vegas Boulevard that does tamales the old way, tucked into masa that stays soft, with sweet pineapple-and-raisin ones for anyone who wants dessert to count as breakfast. The menu runs from chilaquiles through mole and tortilla soup, and weekends bring a shrimp caldo that works as a hangover plan. Prices stay modest, and nobody dresses up for it.

  17. A giant pink monkey painted on the outside wall tells you what you're getting into, and the stained-glass windows and colorful ceiling fixtures inside keep the theme going. This is a lively, casual Mexican spot in East Fremont serving tacos, flautas, and seafood, plus loaded fries that count as a starter if you're generous. Weekend brunch goes full pink, with rosy cocktails and a mimosa flight.

  18. Zaba's is a Vegas-born mini chain in Downtown Summerlin, the kind of counter-service Mexican grill where you build a bowl, burrito, or quesadilla by choosing a protein and pointing at things. Grilled shrimp, shredded beef, and battered fish all get a turn. The Valencia heat tacos toss orange slices in chile powder, which sounds like a dare and eats like a plan. Wear whatever you wore to the farmers market, and expect to be out in twenty minutes.

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
