Cuisines

  1. The building has been housing itinerant strangers since the 1800s, first as a sailors' hostel, now as a low-budget boutique hotel in Chinatown. Rooms range from hostel-style bunks to private en-suites, so the price you pay shapes the experience considerably. The café and bar runs all-day breakfast and light fare, and a rooftop deck is rarer here than you'd think. Close to the river and just north of downtown, it makes a practical base for the rest of Portland.

  4. A fleet of cruiser bikes parked out front hints at the Atticus's personality: a contemporary boutique hotel that takes itself seriously without losing its sense of fun. It holds a Michelin Key and sits in the heart of walkable McMinnville wine country, about halfway between Portland and the coast. Rooms run from snug Micro Studios to a full penthouse, and the in-house restaurant leans Mediterranean and Pacific Northwest.

    The awards

  5. The subterranean thermal-pool sequence is the real pitch here: this Alberta Arts District hotel runs far deeper, literally, than your average boutique stay. Rooms come with full kitchens and proper workspaces, and the low-rise neighborhood means views that don't disappoint. A Japanese-Portuguese restaurant, a garden bar café, and a coffee shop round things out for guests who surface long enough to eat.

    The awards

  6. Pillowy housemade flour tortillas wrapped around smoked meats are the whole argument here. Matt Vicedomini built his name on Texas-style barbecue, and Texas Monthly noticed, but this casual taco counter is where that smoked-meat skill gets genuinely interesting. Pork belly with guacamole and pickled onions, brisket in the breakfast tacos available all day, smoked mushroom fajitas for the non-meat crowd. Bon Appétit named it one of America's Best New Restaurants.

  7. Rank 104. Nostrana

    Italian

Wood-fired oven anchoring an open kitchen, high ceilings, warm wood everywhere: Nostrana reads like the kind of Italian restaurant Portland genuinely needed someone to get right. Chef Cathy Whims built the menu around regional Italian cooking and Pacific Northwest ingredients, with pizza holding its own among the broader offerings. The naturally leavened dough and housemade mozzarella keep purists happy without making the rest of the menu feel like an afterthought.

  8. Rank 108. Apizza Scholls

    New York-style Pizzeria

You can't build your own pizza here, and that's the point. The menu lists eighteen pies, each already balanced by a chef who spent years making bread first, and you can feel it in the dough, a long-fermented thing with real acidity and char underneath. Fresh-sliced cheese, no customization, and they sell out, so booking ahead saves heartbreak. A small, no-frills pizza parlor on Hawthorne that tastes entirely like itself.

  9. The counter has one view worth having: the ovens, going all day. Scottie's is a New York-style slice shop on SE Division, small enough that one booth and a high table constitute the seating plan, with a couple of benches outside when Portland cooperates. The menu runs classics alongside a vodka slice and a reimagined Hawaiian, with a grandma square that earns its square footage. Counter staff will talk you through it without making it a whole thing.

  13. Rank 111. Ken’s Artisan Pizza

    Wood-fired Pizzeria

The wood-fired oven scents the whole room before you've found a seat, which is the idea. Ken's is a casual pizza spot on SE 28th where the dough ferments long and the crust lands somewhere between Neapolitan and what Portland thinks pizza should be, which turns out to be a persuasive argument. Ken Forkish runs the show, and the wine list is a step above what the no-reservations vibe might lead you to expect. It placed on 50 Top Pizza USA.

  22. Thirty-five acres of Willamette Valley vineyard and woodland, less than an hour from Portland, make a convincing argument for never going back to the city. The Allison Inn & Spa is a full luxury resort in pinot noir country, where the architecture nods vaguely European but never forgets it's in the Pacific Northwest. Wine country has been creeping toward Napa-level ambition for a while now, and this place has been leading the charge.

    The awards

  23. Eight rooms in Oregon wine country, with platform beds, hardwood floors, and modernist furnishings that feel more boutique hotel than barn conversion. A European-style breakfast arrives at your door before you head out to the vineyards. The bocce court and croquet lawn look out over farmland in every direction, which makes the whole setup feel a little surreal, in the best, quietest possible way.

  25. Rank 125. Clyde Common

    Cocktail Bar

The zinc-topped bar inside the Ace Hotel is where Jeffrey Morgenthaler built his reputation, and Portland's cocktail crowd hasn't forgotten it. Clyde Common is technically a big, open dining hall, but the bar runs the show here, with vintage stools filling up fast under a double-height ceiling loud with conversation. The food is genuinely good, but nobody's coming just for dinner.

  27. Rank 125. Grana

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The open oven sits at the center of the room like a piece of furniture someone actually thought about, which tells you a lot about Grana before the pizza arrives. This is a contemporary Neapolitan pizza restaurant on East Burnside, bright and carefully put together without feeling precious. The dough runs high-hydration and long-fermented, San Marzano tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella alongside whatever's local. It landed at 26 on 50 Top Pizza USA.

  28. Rank 125. Hapa Pizza

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

A pizza shop in Beaverton where the dough is made with a biga starter, splitting the difference between Neapolitan softness and New York chew, then topped with flavors drawn from Asian pantries. The combination landed Hapa on the 50 Top Pizza USA list. The room is warm and the kitchen moves fast, which matters when half of Beaverton decides to show up at once. Original without being weird about it.

  29. Javelina is a casual counter-style spot in Northeast Portland where frybread does the heavy lifting, as tacos with bison chili, as the bun on the powwow burger, or tossed in cinnamon sugar. The chef is quick to point out that wheat isn't native here, so the rest of the menu sticks to First Foods like elk, wild rice, and blue corn. Eater lists it among Portland's best, and Esquire counted it among 2025's best new restaurants in America.

  30. Slushy machines churn Technicolor drinks behind the bar, which sets the tone for this Northern Thai restaurant occupying the storied space where Pok Pok once stood. Earl Ninsom runs the room and the kitchen turns out gai yang chicken with a chargrilled, fish-sauce funk and a khao soi that makes you keep reaching for the bowl. It landed on the New York Times Restaurant List in 2026.

  31. A long sloping entry leads you up into a warm, modern room where communal high tables split the space between a serious bar and proper wood-fired pizza. Ryan Magarian's cocktail program is the draw here, pairing classics and house originals with Italian street food from the kitchen. The design reads clean rather than cozy, which suits the crowd that comes as much for the drinks as anything coming out of that oven.

  32. A mother-and-son food cart in a Milwaukie food park, turning out Guyanese cooking that's rare in Portland and rarer nationally. The namesake bakes are fluffy, slightly sweet fried-dough pockets stuffed with anything from salt cod to Nutella, so lunch and dessert can share a single pastry. Curry and chow mein reflect Guyana's Indian and Chinese roots. It's cart-priced, with covered seating nearby, and Eater has put it on its list of the best in town.

  33. Rank 134. Bar Diane

    Italian Wine Bar

Bar Diane is a wine bar in Northwest Portland where the hand-painted walls look like the rings left behind by a thousand glasses of rosé on a tablecloth. You can perch at the marble bar and get into the weeds on Oregon pinot, or grab a bistro table for a cocktail and a lobster roll. Pours run from affordable table wine to splurgy champagne, so nobody has to pretend to be a sommelier or a billionaire.

  35. Rank 134. Bun Bo Hue Restaurant

    Vietnamese Noodle Shop

This Lents noodle shop is named after its one big move, the spicy beef soup from central Vietnam, and it sees no reason to hedge. The broth runs meaty, shrimpy, and lemongrass-bright, with collagen-heavy cuts, pork blood cubes, and thick, slippery noodles. A plate of banana blossom, basil, mint, and lime arrives for you to dump in. Eater's list of Portland's best restaurants and food carts includes it. Dine in or call ahead.

  36. Rank 134. Casa Zoraya

    Peruvian

The pisco sours here taste like someone in Lima is personally offended if they're made any other way. Casa Zoraya is a cozy Peruvian restaurant in the Piedmont neighborhood where ceviches arrive looking almost too composed to eat, and beef heart skewers on the starter menu separate the curious from the cautious. The back patio earns its reputation on a warm evening.

  38. Khachapuri, grilled kebabs, and khinkali dumplings in a low-lit room in downtown Vancouver, WA, which is not a sentence you'd expect to type. Dediko is a small Georgian restaurant, the kind that makes you wish this cuisine showed up more often in the Northwest. The menu runs through dips and grilled meat plates beyond the obvious staples, and the wine list pulls from Georgia too. Save room for the honey cake.

  40. Rank 134. Dot's Cafe

    Cocktail Bar

Dots Cafe is a neighborhood dive on Clinton Street where the vinyl booths, flocked wallpaper, and velvet portraits seem to have been told it's still around 2010, and nobody's corrected them. You order at the bar, which leaves time to study a menu of cheesy fries and vegan burgers. Cocktails are on offer, but a shot and a local beer fits the room. The patio has slushies and cheap rosé, and Portland Monthly lists it among the city's best bars.

  41. G-Love is a Northwest 21st Avenue restaurant that Portland Monthly calls the city's most Californian, which is a dry way of saying the vibe arrived from San Francisco and unpacked. The signature is a half avocado crusted in seeds to look like its own skin, stuffed with tuna poke, caviar optional. It's a sit-down dinner with a little coastal swagger, and it landed on the magazine's iconic dishes list and its 50 best.

  42. Rank 134. Hale Pele

    Tiki Bar

A small bridge over a little moat takes you from a residential stretch of Northeast Broadway into what is, with commitment, a full tiki immersion. Woven palm walls, bamboo rafters, illuminated pufferfish, and three hand-carved tiki gods loom over the sunken bar while intermittent thunder rumbles and wisps of volcano smoke drift through. The rum-based cocktails are the actual point of the exercise, and nobody here seems to mind.

  43. Rank 134. Horse Brass Pub

    British Pub

This is an English-style pub on Belmont, low-ceilinged and wood-beamed, with decades of cigarette smoke apparently still living in the walls. The beer comes in proper 20-ounce pints, there are real metal-tipped darts, and the Scotch eggs and fish and chips have outlasted every menu update. Regulars fill it by evening, and the vintage posters, flags, and brass plaques suggest nobody has felt the need to redecorate since the Reagan administration.

  44. The choriqueso at this counter-service taqueria in Vancouver, WA has a way of making the rest of the menu feel like a warmup act. 46. Servers in ties and vests refill your water after every sip, and warm focaccia arrives before you've fully settled in. Mucca Osteria is a downtown Italian restaurant operating on the old assumption that hospitality is the whole point, and the kitchen keeps pace: handmade pastas with a silky bite, burrata draped in long-aged prosciutto, scallops over Parmesan fonduta. A room that makes you slow down without making a fuss about it.

Norah is a lively, colorful restaurant where pad Thai nachos and vegan rangoons share space with a whole roasted cauliflower drowned in red curry. Ricky Gomez, who came up through New Orleans institutions like Cure and Teardrop Lounge, channels his Miami-meets-NOLA-meets-Havana upbringing into a tropical menu where blenders run loud and the hospitality runs warmer than the drinks.

  49. A tiny black box of a coffee shop on SE Stark, Puff Coffee comes with a Stumptown pedigree and the occasional line of devoted early arrivals out front. The focus is single-origin beans, served as drip or a tight espresso, with the shop's clean, minimal interior quietly offset by an E.T. figurine nestled among vintage coffee makers. For the less orthodox, shroom lattes with lion's mane and chaga round things out.

  52. Sandy Hut is a neighborhood dive on a traffic island on NE Sandy, now dwarfed by the apartment buildings that sprouted around it. It has been cleaned up a bit, so the food is better and the drinks cost more, like everywhere. Parents stop in after soccer practice for a pint and a shot, punks work the pool table and video poker, and the late-night crowd returns for hangover brunch. Portland's Best Bars list includes it.

  55. The name lies a little: Teardrop is a square room with painted concrete walls, and the curve comes from the island bar itself, which bends the whole space into something warmer than the bones suggest. It's a serious cocktail lounge, the kind where the menu moves between classics, originals, and borrowed recipes from people who've thought hard about this stuff. Classic films flicker overhead, the lighting is kind, and a quiet Monday still feels like somewhere worth being.

  57. Rank 161. Better Days Cafe

    Vietnamese Coffee Shop

The coffee shop on SE Division is painted superhero blue and stocked with Portland Cà Phê beans for Vietnamese-style drinks, pastries from HeyDay next door in the supply chain, and enough vinyl culture in its DNA that the occasional DJ set feels less like an event and more like a Tuesday. The ube coconut cloud, a non-caffeinated iced drink, does a slow cascade inside the glass that will make you stop mid-sip.

  59. Café Zamora is a small coffee shop on Powell where the beans come from the family's own farm in Guatemala, which makes "single origin" feel less like a menu term and more like a family tree. They roast on Tuesdays, so the bags on the shelf are fresher than most of your groceries. There are a few tables, a few counter seats, and an owner who'll chat while he pours, which is how first-timers turn into regulars.

  60. Campana is an Italian restaurant that started as a pop-up inside a tavern and kept going until it owned the building, which is the most Portland way to get a dining room. The chef's New York kitchen years show up in the meatballs and the clam-sauce linguine, and the gelato is good enough that other Italian spots around town have quietly started serving it. 61. Rank 161. Carnelian Coffee

    Geology-Themed Coffee

A Foster-Powell coffee shop where the decor leans into geology: carnelian specimens line the shelves, roasts carry names like Thunderegg, and the view from the patio is a gravel yard across the street, which fits the theme better than intended. The house-roasted coffee is carefully made, the room is cozy and russet-toned, and the whole thing feels quietly, pleasantly odd in a way that Portland pulls off without trying.

  62. A hand-painted plywood sign out front announces a small, no-fuss coffee shop where a few tables, a pour-over, and a record player are the entire amenities package. The beans get roasted across the river and the pastries get baked in-house, so nobody's outsourcing the important parts. It shares its room with Soen, which means a coffee run can quietly turn into onigiri and shaved ice. It's on The Infatuation's list of Portland's best coffee shops.

  63. Deadstock is a tiny coffee shop tucked into a boutique hotel lobby, where vintage Nikes sit on shelves like museum pieces and the latte art sometimes wears little high-tops. The drinks have names like LeBronald Palmer and Zero Chill, and the soundtrack might be Marvin Gaye on vinyl. Sneakerheads, tourists, and neighborhood regulars share the few bar seats, no shoe knowledge required, just a tolerance for being judged by your footwear.

  66. Rank 161. Either/Or

    Coffee

A coffee shop and bar on North Williams where the mocktail menu gets as much attention as the espresso. Heart coffee comes in every format you'd expect, and the food leans into a shiitake sausage breakfast sandwich that earns its regulars. The Biggie Salty, a nonalcoholic Kahlua-style drink finished with cinnamon chocolate coffee salt, is the kind of thing that sounds like a joke until you order it twice.

  67. Rank 161. Farag’s

    Egyptian Wine Bar

  68. This is an airport coffee counter in PDX that happens to be run by an independent Portland roaster, which means La Marzocco machines and a sleek, minimalist setup instead of the usual chain with a rotating cast of regrets. The seasonal lattes lean toward pairings like pear and bergamot, a lot of thought for someone clutching a boarding pass. It made The Infatuation's list of Portland's 25 best coffee shops, airport and all.

  69. Guilder is a roastery-run coffee shop tucked inside Powell's City of Books, which means your latte comes with a view of other people's reading lists. The drip gets proper respect here, though the seasonal drinks, like a cardamom rose cold brew under floral foam, are the ones to ask about. There's toast and even cocktails, and the clientele is mostly people holding one book and eyeing three more.

  70. Heart is a Scandinavian-minimalist coffee shop on Burnside, and it's one of the places that helped put Portland on the third-wave map. The espresso leans light-roast, the pour-overs come with tasting notes like honeysuckle and cantaloupe, and there's no wifi, so nobody is camped out with a laptop and a single cortado. You drink the coffee, you look at the clean lines, and you leave. The Infatuation lists it among Portland's best coffee shops.

Jet Black is a vegan coffee shop in Gateway, named after a Jawbreaker song, which tells you roughly what's on the stereo. They roast their own beans, default to two shots of espresso, and stock enough plant milks that hemp gets a seat. The front deck is spacious, the breakfast sandwich is an English muffin with a sausage patty and Mama Lil's peppers, and nobody seems to be performing anything.

  75. Rank 161. Ki’ikibáa

    Yucatecan

Panuchos and salbutes, those fried corn tortillas piled with slow-roasted cochinita pibil, are the reason to come to this Yucatecan spot on NE 82nd. The dining room is modest and unassuming, the kind of place that would never brag about itself, which somehow makes the food feel even more surprising. Order broadly and share: the menu rewards the curious, and the soups, when they appear, are not to be passed over.

  76. Rank 161. La Perlita

    Mexican Café

La Perlita is an Overlook coffee shop that treats the latte as a chance to bring in rosewater, cardamom, dulce de leche, and smoky chile pasilla. There's enough room to spread a laptop out, though the menu makes a strong case for abandoning your inbox. The mocha comes with chocolate and warm spices, and a concha under rainbow sprinkles sits next to it. The Infatuation put it on a list of Portland's best coffee shops.

    Colombian Coffee Shop

A Colombian family operation with a five-acre farm at its roots, Matta lands in Portland's Northwest District as a coffee shop that keeps one foot planted in Bogotá. Espresso drinks share the menu with cocktails and arepas, which is a tidy way to cover breakfast through happy hour. Warm woods and serious plant energy make it the kind of spot where laptops outnumber newspapers, which tells you all you need to know about the afternoon crowd.

  82. Never Coffee is a Belmont cafe and roastery where the lattes read like a dare: one comes with hops and dulce de leche, another with star anise and black licorice, and both somehow behave in the cup. The room is all cutout shapes and a bright green tiled floor, and the picnic tables out front go fast whenever Portland remembers the sun exists. Order at the counter, stay as long as the laptop battery allows.

  83. Nossa Familia is a coffee shop in Ladd's Addition that buys its beans straight from family farms in Brazil, which explains the subscription club and the loyal following. The room is bright, the espresso runs smooth and chocolatey, and the menu skips the flashy drinks, with one exception. The Bee Sting latte comes with local honey, cardamom, and a little cayenne, so it's the only thing here that fights back.

  84. Rank 161. Obon Shokudo

    Vegan Japanese

Obon Shokudo is a small, bright Japanese comfort food spot on SE Grand where the whole menu happens to be vegan, a fact it mentions about as loudly as a houseplant. Udon comes in brothy curry or chilled with sesame, and the onigiri get a smear of miso made from things like hominy or pistachios. Fermented hot sauce and tofu get made in-house too. Portland Monthly put it on its 50 Best Restaurants list.

  87. Rank 161. Portland Cà Phê

    Vietnamese Coffee Shop

This is a counter-service coffee shop that runs on Vietnamese robusta, the bolder, heavier-hitting cousin of the arabica your usual café leans on. The bánh mì comes stuffed enough that you'll wonder if the menu is a typo, and the seasonal drinks swing from jasmine tea with lychee and blackberry to a passionfruit espresso tonic. It's the rare café where people order lunch first and then remember they also wanted coffee.

  89. The chile oil wontons alone have pulled people across town to this downtown Sichuan restaurant, a sister to Sichuan City out in Happy Valley. The menu runs the full range of textures the cuisine is known for: crispy, tangy, soupy, and that particular mouth-numbing heat that makes you pause mid-bite. Order generously and expect your lips to tingle for a while afterward.

  90. Rank 161. Soro Soro

    Korean Coffee Shop

Soro Soro is a small Korean coffee shop on East Burnside where the drinks come layered like geology, with black sesame-pandan cream, crispy rice, and Okinawan brown sugar. Yuzu sodas and cherry blossom slushes sit alongside cat-face cheesecakes and dog-shaped cookies, so expect a line of people photographing their order before anyone takes a sip. The Infatuation put it on its list of Portland coffee shops.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
