The Best Places in Quartier du Faubourg-du-Roule & around

  1. Rank 1. Pierre Gagnaire

    Modern French

A charcoal mural by Adel Abdessemed covers the dining room wall, a sort of urban bestiary that sets the tone for what follows. Pierre Gagnaire is a three-Michelin-star fine dining restaurant near the Champs-Élysées, and the chef's cooking is restless in the way that jazz is restless: each dish arrives with a constellation of small satellite plates spinning around it, making any single course hard to summarize and easy to remember.

  2. The corridor to your table is lined with thousands of mother-of-pearl shells, a Baroque nod to Italian nymphs that sets the tone before you've sat down. Inside Le Royal Monceau, this fine dining room feels like a conservatory in bloom, with tall windows opening onto a garden. The kitchen, guided by the Cerea family, turns out contemporary Italian cooking that earns both a Michelin star and the number two spot on 50 Top Italy's global Italian restaurant list.

  3. Philippe Starck redesigned this grand hotel near the Arc de Triomphe from top to bottom, and the result is less "luxury hotel" and more "fever dream with excellent thread counts." Hallucinogenic op-art stripes line the halls, the staircase drips with tiny chandeliers, and an in-house art gallery and installations fill the common spaces. The Raffles Spa, a kids' club, and even a dedicated room for visiting press round out the full five-star machinery underneath.

  4. A boutique hotel steps off the Champs-Élysées, on the very block where Balzac spent his final years, which the designers treat as an opportunity for sober, understated Parisian luxury rather than literary-themed décor. Rooms lean toward quiet and comfortable over grand, the Spa Ikoi takes things in a Japanese direction, and Pierre Gagnaire, three Michelin stars and all, shares the address with a private entrance for guests. A Michelin Key hotel.

  5. The courtyard garden is the giveaway: a patch of genuine quiet one block off the Champs-Élysées, in a building that was a private mansion before hotels existed. This Forbes Four Star boutique hotel runs on discretion, antique furniture, marble bathrooms, and staff who anticipate without hovering. Grace Kelly used to haunt these halls. The eighth-floor spa looks out at the Eiffel Tower, which feels almost unfair.

  6. Rank 4. Le Taillevent

    Classic French

The crêpes Suzette still get flambéed tableside, Grand Marnier first, then cognac, which tells you everything about what Le Taillevent is. This is classic French fine dining in a 19th-century mansion off the Champs-Élysées, the kind of room where a meat trolley arrives like a formal procession. The chef holds two Michelin stars, and the wine list runs thick enough to qualify as literature.

  7. Art Nouveau touches, an art collection, and a glass partition opening onto the kitchen set the scene at this two-Michelin-starred fine dining room in the 17th. Classic French cooking is the whole point, from pike-perch quenelles with lobster cream to Bresse chicken with yellow wine jus, though the menu has been quietly modernizing. The pastry course alone tends to generate its own conversation at the table.

  8. Rank 8. Agapé

    Sichuan

A Michelin-starred modern French restaurant in the 17th where the menu changes with whatever chef Yoshi Nagato feels like doing that day, which turns out to be a sound policy. The room is soft and cosy, the plates are precise and generous, and his partner handles desserts with the same care. A solid list of organic and natural wines rounds things out for the crowd who always seems to know exactly which bottle to ask for.

  10. Rank 8. Frédéric Simonin

    Modern French

Hardwood floors, white walls, and bevelled mirrors give this Michelin-starred dining room in the 17th the feel of a well-kept Parisian apartment, which is apparently the point. The chef trained at Ledoyen, Le Meurice, and with Robuchon before earning his Meilleur Ouvrier de France, and the tasting menus carry that pedigree quietly, with sauces and reductions that tend to stop conversation mid-sentence.

  12. Red lacquer and high stools at a long counter facing an open kitchen, tucked into the basement of the Publicis Drugstore off the Champs-Élysées. The format is Joël Robuchon's signature: fine dining, but counter-style, so you watch every plate leave the pass. The one Michelin star follows the format around the world. Order small tasting portions or full plates, and note that wines by the glass come poured from magnums, which is either theater or good sense, probably both.

  13. The pale marquetry paneling and Art Deco lamps give Mallory Gabsi's fine dining room the hush of a very elegant old ocean liner, which makes the cooking feel like a pleasant ambush. Gabsi, a familiar face from French television, holds a Michelin star for a menu that plays acid against bitter and lands desserts combining tobacco, vanilla, and coffee without flinching. Flemish touches surface throughout, keeping things grounded.

  14. Maritime décor lines the room at this Michelin-starred modern French restaurant on the Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, where Thierry Marx has come back to the address where he started out. The cooking nods to Asia and runs on a kind of quiet precision, with soy standing in for rice in a risotto and seasonal seafood arriving in ways that feel fussed over without looking it. Polished, unhurried, and very much the 8th arrondissement.

  15. Rank 8. Oxte

    Contemporary Mexican

A small, Michelin-starred dining room near the Étoile where a Mexican chef and his wife-and-partner cook French ingredients through a Mexican lens, the kind of pairing that sounds like a festival concept but arrives as something far quieter and more precise. The menu shifts with the seasons, the spicing is vivid, and the mole is the real through-line. Book early; the room is tiny and the word has been out for a while.

  17. The smallest rooms here are called Boudoirs, which is either a charming euphemism for snug or a genuine promise of intimacy, and somehow it lands as both. This Belle Époque-inspired boutique hotel sits just off the Champs-Élysées, its 1910 bones dressed in velvet, tasseled lamps, and red-and-white tiled bathrooms. Corner suites get freestanding tubs beside the bed. A pink marble bar anchors the ground floor. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

  18. A portrait of a young French woman greets you in the lobby, the hotel's origin story told in a single glance. This classic Parisian hotel sits in the 8th arrondissement, steps from the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées, in a neighborhood that takes its Haussmann bones seriously. Wingback chairs, unhurried service, and a room scale that feels residential rather than corporate keep the place feeling like someone actually thought about where you'd want to sit.

    The awards

  19. The ornate metalwork on the grand staircase sets the tone: this large luxury hotel near Parc Monceau commits fully to art deco, right down to the in-room fireplaces and a private collection of sculptures and paintings. The transatlantic liner aesthetic runs through the rooms, the bar, and the spa without apology. With nearly 500 rooms, it's a grand-scale stay, the kind where the corridors alone feel like a mood.

    The awards

  20. A boutique hotel just off the Champs-Élysées, Monsieur George is the work of designer Anouska Hempel, installed inside a classic Haussmannian building. The interiors lean deep into residential glamour, with a density of detail that makes most design hotels look like they're trying too hard. The spa, a Michelin Key, and a Mediterranean restaurant round things out, but it's the rooms themselves that do the convincing.

    The awards

  21. Named for mid-century American artist Norman Ives rather than the French region, this 37-room boutique hotel near the top of the Champs-Élysées carries its namesake's modernist sensibility through rosewood headboards, mosaic marble bathrooms, and geometric carpets. A library lounge with a fireplace sets a quiet, bookish tone that the neighborhood does nothing to prepare you for. It holds a Michelin Key.

    The awards

  22. Rank 22. Caïus

    Bistronomic French

Dark wood paneling and ochre chairs in a residential corner of the 17th give this modern bistro the feel of a very well-decorated local, until you notice how beautifully everyone is dressed. The short, evolving menu comes from an Italian-born chef who trained in avant-garde kitchens and then made the elegant decision to calm down. Discipline and simplicity are his words for it. The pastry chef shares the philosophy, which is a relief.

  23. The glass ceiling in the restaurant was engineered by Gustave Eiffel, which sets the tone for this five-star hotel a short walk from the Arc de Triomphe. Designer François Champsaur balanced the post-Haussmann bones with contemporary furniture and art without making it feel like a museum or a mood board. The bar's curved Carrera marble counter is the kind of thing that makes you order a second drink just to keep looking at it.

    The awards

  24. A boutique hotel built around the legacy of Loïe Fuller, the American dancer whose swirling silk performances made her a muse for Toulouse-Lautrec and Rodin. Steps from the Arc de Triomphe, it belongs to the Drawing Hotels Collection, which hands each floor to a different artist. No two rooms look alike, though all have custom wallpaper, tiled Italian-style bathrooms, and wrought-iron balconies. The glass-ceilinged bar downstairs serves Art Nouveau cocktails, and an art concierge is on hand.

  28. Rank 26. Dessirier

    Seafood

Oysters and whole fish have been the point here since forever, and the Rostang family has kept the white tablecloth seafood brasserie formula running without apology. Bouillabaisse, cod aioli, and shellfish towers anchor a menu that reads like a love letter to the French coast. The room on Place du Maréchal-Juin feels properly Parisian, the kind of elegant but unstuffy that takes years to calibrate. Finish with the chocolate soufflé.

  32. Rank 26. Le 703

    Bistro

A long counter runs the room at this snug bistro in the 17th, where the menu rotates between Alsace in the colder months and Provence when the weather turns. The chef trained under some serious names in both regions, and the pâté en croûte and house-made boudin taste like proof of that. Traditional French cooking done without apology, in a room where the regulars seem to have memorized the entire thing.

  37. Rank 26. Roco

    Pizzeria

A rotating oven at the center of the room handles the cooking with quiet precision, turning out pizzas in a neighborhood that considers itself well above tourist Paris. Roco is a sit-down pizza restaurant in the 17th, polished enough that the lighting is soft and the wine list is curated by the glass. The kind of place where the appetizers and desserts earn their place rather than just filling out the menu. It ranked 24th on 50 Top Pizza Europe.

  39. A seafood restaurant with its own fish-maturing cellar and a bar big enough to make a statement, VIVE has been a Paris institution since forever. David and Stéphanie Le Quellec now run the kitchen, bringing a very Breton sensibility to dishes built for sharing: fish and shellfish sourced from Atlantic and Mediterranean markets, served in a room of long banquettes and genuine old-school grandeur. Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
