  1. Rank 509. La Onda

    Mexican

  2. A coffee shop spacious enough that the laptop crowd has genuinely claimed it without making the room feel lost. Designed by Mexican studio Futura with indoor trees and seating for 70, Blend Station roasts 100% Mexican beans on-site, with a menu organized by processing style, washed, honey, and natural, sourced from micro-lots across Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, and beyond. The cold drip tower behind the counter looks borrowed from a chemistry lab.

  3. Rank 516. Malcriado

    Mediterranean Mexican

The name translates to "badly raised," which tells you something about the attitude. Malcriado runs as a cafe through the morning and a natural wine bar by evening, taking both halves seriously enough that neither reads as the excuse for the other. The team cups the beans twice daily, the coffee comes from Chiapas, and the kitchen carries a Mediterranean sensibility built on Mexican ingredients. Tables spill onto Atlixco, fully absorbed into Condesa's sidewalk rhythm.

  4. Rank 518. Bartola

    Italian

Bartola is a loud, candlelit Italian dinner spot in Roma Norte, all white tablecloths set against deliberately broken cement walls. The host handles walk-ins with a smile that translates roughly to good luck, and the open kitchen is staffed by cooks who look styled for a menswear lookbook. Expats fill the room, mostly watching each other. The chicken parm gets finished tableside, which is the only moment anyone looks at their food.

  5. Rank 518. Cantón Mexicali

    Mexicali Chinese

Cantón Mexicali is a Chinese restaurant in Roma that still looks like it's waiting on a 1995 wedding banquet, mostly because the new owners had the good sense to leave the decor alone. The cooking now leans Mexicali-style, which means fried shrimp in a sweet and sour chipotle salsa sharing a table with dan dan noodles and cold Tsingtaos. Younger regulars fill in around the loyal holdovers, and nobody seems to mind the carpet.

  6. Rank 518. El Jamil

    Lebanese

  7. Rank 518. Lardo

    Mediterranean

Lardo is an all-day Mexican-Mediterranean restaurant in Condesa where the move is to sit at the bar and eat something with a fork. It runs from power breakfast to date night without changing its shirt, and the grilled octopus in peanut and tomato sauce explains the stool situation. Expect tourists and laptop people more than neighbors, and know that the croque madame at breakfast is a little indulgent.

  8. Marmota is a wood-fired restaurant on Plaza Río de Janeiro, the one with the statue of David, which is a strange thing to eat dinner next to. The menu takes its cues from the Pacific Northwest, so expect a lot of smoke and char, with farm-raised meat and mostly local produce. The drinks list leans on hard cider, a sensible call when everything else tastes like a campfire.

  9. Pollos Poncho is a casual Roma spot where the whole menu answers to one bird. The chicken shows up in a grilled flour tortilla sandwich with labneh, and in tacos al pastor, where it stands in for the pork without apology. The move is a late lunch with the whole roasted chicken, rice, potatoes, guacamole, and fresh tortillas. The same people run the El Moro churro empire, so short menus are their native language.

  10. Rank 518. Xel-Há

    Yucatecan

Xel-Há is a Condesa dining room with white tablecloths, branded napkins, and waiters in bow ties, which sets expectations for stuffy and overpriced that the menu cheerfully ignores. The cooking leans Yucatecan, the soccer match plays on several TVs, and a solid lunch runs about $20. It's busy and family-friendly, yet somehow there's always a table for a big group, which feels like a small miracle.

  13. A 1940s mansion in Polanco sets the stage for this multi-floor Spanish restaurant, where the kitchen takes an updated approach to the cuisine rather than a museum-piece one. The chef runs a seven-course tasting menu alongside a broader à la carte selection. Thursday through Saturday the kitchen stays open until 2 a.m., which is either a bonus or the whole point, depending on your evening.

  35. The patio at this all-day restaurant and café opens onto Plaza San Jacinto, which on Saturdays turns into one of the city's better artisan markets and supplies a steady stream of browsers to watch over a glass from the long wine list. The menu moves from enchiladas to pasta to salmon without breaking a sweat, the bread is baked in-house, and the chocolate dessert has regulars planning ahead.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
