The best American food in Mexico, according to the experts: MB100, the Michelin Guide, and MexBest have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Primitivo Restaurante comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Mexico City and Ensenada.
More Less
La Docena - Roma and Restaurante Loma Linda hold the next two places. MB100 shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with AAA next.

Rank 1. Primitivo Restaurante
Rustic American
Down a dirt road past a fence hung with wine bottles, this open-air restaurant in Baja's Valle de Guadalupe wine country is anchored by a large fire pit where cast iron and open flame do all the heavy lifting. The menu follows a loose arc, oysters first, then a protein, then sharing plates that use the whole animal or fish. The cooking is rooted in local sourcing and fire, and the chocolate cake at the end earns the trip on its own.

Rank 2. La Docena - Roma
Cajun & Creole Seafood
The raw bar is the main event here, a New Orleans-leaning oyster and seafood spot in Roma Norte that hums with the same energy as its Polanco and Guadalajara siblings. Tostadas, fish fillets, and a cured meat counter where some of the charcuterie gets sliced to order round out a menu that keeps things unfussy on purpose. Come thirsty and don't overthink it.

Rank 5. La Justina
Baja California American Gastropub
A gastropub on Avenida Revolución where the menu reads like a Baja California takeover of American bar food: think cochinita pibil sliders and pork belly pizzas with cilantro pesto. The cocktails pull equal weight, with the house drink mixing tequila, citrus, cinnamon, and dark beer into something genuinely worth slowing down for. It draws a stylish crowd, which makes sense given the hotel upstairs, and the corner it anchors happens to be one of the livelier ones in the city.
