The best Middle Eastern food in London, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide and The Infatuation have both weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Imad's Syrian Kitchen comes out on top.

More Less

Palomar and Bubala hold the next two places. The Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with The Infatuation next.

  1. The slow-cooked lamb shoulder is the thing to order, though the hummus and falafel will make a case for themselves too. This Syrian restaurant on the top floor of Kingly Court started somewhere much smaller and outgrew it, which tells you something. The menu is built for sharing, heavy on Middle Eastern flavours, and priced to make you feel like you got away with something. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and you can see why.

    Vegetarian Middle Eastern

The green-tiled bar is a nod to East London's pub tradition, which feels about right for a vegetarian Middle Eastern spot that treats a plate of oyster mushroom skewers with the same seriousness your local gives a pint. Sharing plates fill the table: dips, flatbreads, falafel, latkes, all of it lifted by careful spicing. The Spitalfields original is compact and rustic, and dinner hands the menu decisions to the kitchen entirely.

  4. Rank 3. Honey & Co

    Middle Eastern

A sunny little Middle Eastern restaurant on one of Bloomsbury's better streets, with whitewashed rooms and a pavement terrace that earns its keep come summer. The menu runs from shakshuka at breakfast through to an evening spread of meze and sharing plates, the kind of food that gives the table something to argue over pleasantly. Regulars tend to know exactly which room to ask for.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
