The best Caribbean food in London, according to the experts: The Infatuation, Eater, and Michelin Guide have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Tasty Jerk comes out on top.

  1. The smoke reaches you long before the menu does. This no-frills jerk shack near Selhurst Park runs on oil drums and seasoning that gets all the way through the meat, pork belly, chicken, goat, even lobster, each one carrying allspice and Scotch bonnet heat in equal measure. It's the kind of place where the room is an afterthought and the grill is the point. Eater and The Infatuation both keep it on their London shortlists, and the prices won't make you wince.

  2. The rum punch arrives before you've even thought about food, which is the right order of events at this Caribbean restaurant in Herne Hill. Chef Nathaniel Mortley built a following on Instagram as NattyCanCook before opening the room, and the crowd eating here suggests the transition worked out. Warming spices, sweet notes, jollof rice, and a sticky toffee pudding that quietly refuses to be conventional.

  3. Pepper pot and garlic pork cooked low and slow at a market stall that has survived longer than the shopping centre it once stood beside. The chef draws on Guyana's layered culinary history, where cassareep, clove, and cinnamon turn a stewed chicken the color of mahogany. This is Guyanese home cooking at a counter in Castle Square, and the queue tends to answer any questions you might still have about it.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
