The Best Australian Food in France

Sections

Tap another section to add it. All sections

The best Australian food in France, according to the experts: The 50, the Michelin Guide, and Le Fooding have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Le Doyenné comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Paris and Porte-de-Savoie.

More Less

Pluviôse and Le Garriane hold the next two places. The Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Le Fooding next.

  1. Rank 1. Le Doyenné

    Australian

The estate's kitchen garden predates the restaurant, which tells you something about where the priorities lie. Two Australian chefs converted the former stables of a château outside Paris into a fine dining room where the harvest drives the menu, not the other way around. It landed on the World's 50 Best list, and the guestrooms mean you can sleep off the wine without negotiating the drive back to the city.

  2. Rank 2. Pluviôse

    Australian

A wood-fired oven does most of the heavy lifting at this small modern restaurant named for a month in the French Revolutionary calendar, which sets expectations accordingly. The Australian chef runs the floor and the kitchen solo, baking his own bread and churning his own ice cream between searing fish with a light hand. Opening hours shift, so booking ahead is less a suggestion than a requirement.

  3. Rank 3. Le Garriane

    Seasonal Australian

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
