The Best American Food in the United Kingdom

The best American food in the United Kingdom, according to the experts: the Great British Pub Awards, Eater, and The Infatuation have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Gasoline American Bar comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in London.

More Less

Bake Street and Plaquemine Lock hold the next two places. The Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with The Infatuation next.

  1. American memorabilia lines the walls of this lively bar and casual dining spot on Saltergate, where line dancing nights sit comfortably alongside quiz nights and live sport on the same weekly calendar. The vibe is broadly Americana, the crowd is local and loyal, and the programming is restless enough that there's usually something on. It took the Admiral Taverns Pub of the Year at the 2025 Great British Pub Awards.

  4. Rank 3. Smokestak

    Barbecue

The brisket goes into the smoker overnight and comes out glazed, melting, and almost insultingly good for the price. This Shoreditch barbecue joint keeps things straightforward: expertly handled smoke, wallet-friendly plates, and a room that's genuinely lively without trying too hard. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks. Service moves fast and knows the menu cold.

  5. A working farm in Cornwall where the kitchen cures, pickles, and grills over a central wood fire using animals raised on the same 66 acres outside the window. The dining room leans into it: animal skins on the chairs, antique cutlery, handmade pottery. The sourdough alone justifies the drive out here. A young team runs the floor without fuss, and there are rooms if you'd rather not navigate country lanes in the dark.

  7. Rank 5. FOWL

    American

A chicken fat tarte Tatin might be the most committed dessert menu decision in London. FOWL is a casual restaurant from the team behind Fallow, devoted entirely to the bird, beak to tail, from wings and strips through rotisserie and schnitzel to that notorious pudding. The approach is playful but the sourcing is serious, which is exactly the combination that keeps a one-note concept from becoming a gimmick.

  8. Rank 5. Ox Club

    Barbecue

A wood-fired restaurant inside a converted Leeds mill, sharing the building with a beer hall and cocktail bar, which means the room is loud and no one is pretending otherwise. The kitchen runs everything through smoke and flame, with a US-imported grill doing the heavy lifting and bold flavors layered on top, nduja with oysters, gochujang on crispy pig tails. Vegetarians get a serious run too. The côte de boeuf is there if the mood takes you.

  9. An ivy-clad pub in the Dorset countryside where fire does most of the serious work. The restored interior keeps its old-school bones while leaning into something quirkier, and the menu follows the same logic: open-fire cooking that runs from oyster mushroom skewers to pork belly with charred hispi. The Basque cheesecake has clearly read the zeitgeist, but nobody seems to mind. Wines are fairly priced, and the service doesn't take itself too seriously.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
