  1. The leafy courtyard backs up against the Großer Tiergarten, and on a warm evening that setting does a lot of the work. This is a hotel restaurant inside SO/ Berlin Das Stue, done up in the style of a very comfortable living room, serving French classics, beef tartare, entrecôte, moules marinières. The Stue Bar next door handles aperitifs and digestifs, which is a sensible arrangement. Lunch brings a set menu at gentler prices.

  2. Rank 91. Château Royal

    Mediterranean

The ceilings in this hotel restaurant near the Brandenburg Gate are high enough to make you sit up a little straighter. It's a Mediterranean kitchen with a classical streak, the kind of place where freshly made pasta shares billing with dishes that feel borrowed from a French grandmother. The room is intimate despite the grand bones, and the lunch set pulls in a quieter crowd who've clearly done their research.

  4. Rank 91. Dae Mon

    Modern Pan-Asian

The cold Asian tea pairing, offered as a serious alternative to wine, tells you a lot about how Dae Mon approaches things. This is a chic Berlin restaurant doing eight-course tasting menus that pull techniques and flavors from across Asian cooking traditions without planting a flag in any one of them. One menu is vegetarian, and you can swap dishes around to build your own. The crowd tends toward the intentional kind of diner.

  5. Rank 91. Diekmann

    French

The oyster bar sits front and center, framed by wine racks salvaged from an old colonial goods shop, which sets the tone for a bistro that takes its atmosphere as seriously as its cooking. The back room goes minimalist and quiet. Evenings bring a Franco-German menu, either à la carte or tasting, with enough creative turns to keep things interesting. Lunch is shorter and gentler on the wallet, with water, bread, and espresso folded in.

  6. A gastrobar in Kreuzkölln where the drinks menu gets as much thought as the food, which is a rarer balance than it should be. The two owners split time between the kitchen and the floor, so the room stays small and personal. A tight à la carte and a ten-course tasting menu for two or more run alongside house-made kombucha, cocktails, and carefully chosen wines that the staff walk you through with genuine warmth.

  7. Rank 91. FUKAGAWA - Fine Dining

    Contemporary Japanese

A fine dining room in Kreuzberg where Japanese technique and European pantry meet with more conviction than that pairing usually manages. The seven-course menu comes in omnivore or vegetarian versions, shaped by a kitchen with Italian-German and Japanese roots, which explains the Wagyu beside the chicory and the Breton scallop in a tonkotsu broth. The interior is spare and calm, and there's a small terrace out front when Berlin cooperates.

  11. A North Indian restaurant tucked behind the Hotel Adlon, a short walk from the Brandenburg Gate, where the mahogany panelling and bright traditional patterns give the room a quietly festive feeling. The cooking leans rustic, with curries and tandoori dishes anchoring the menu alongside plenty of vegetarian options. Ingredients come from the team's own organic farm on the Baltic coast, which is not a detail most Berlin curry houses can claim.

  14. The counter wraps around an open kitchen in a spare, light-filled room in Wedding, where the team runs an all-day café that sharpens into something more considered come dinner. French and Japanese ideas fold together quietly, the way they do at the elder sibling ernst, but the mood here is looser and younger. Weekends bring pastries and coffee; evenings bring an omakase option for those who want the kitchen to decide.

  16. Rank 91. Kitten Deli

    Middle Eastern

The pita comes straight from the oven, and you can buy a loaf of challah to take home if you have the self-control to wait that long. Kitten Deli is a vegetarian Levantine spot in Neukölln, with old floorboards, panelled walls, and street tables that fill up fast. The menu leans toward sharing, hummus, shakshuka, things you pull apart together. No tablecloths, no ceremony, just the kind of neighbourhood place that makes you wish you lived around the corner.

  18. The cheerful mishmash of colorful accessories and authentic Thai furnishings signals exactly what kind of meal you're in for at this casual vegan Thai spot in Friedrichshain. The chef draws on his homeland's street food traditions, building dishes around sweet, spicy, and subtly heated flavors that stay full-bodied without tipping into fire. A good place to find that pad thai craving and discover you didn't miss the fish sauce at all.

  20. Dinner inside a converted prison sounds grim until you see what they've done with it: exposed brick, soaring ceilings, and a glass-covered former lock yard that everyone calls the Aquarium. It's a contemporary restaurant with a set menu or à la carte options leaning heavily on vegetables, with vegan and vegetarian routes available on request. The wine list roams widely, and the bar has a terrace worth arriving early for.

  21. The restaurant takes its name from André Macionga, the sommelier-owner who also makes his own wine and runs a shop off the floor, so the list here is a personal document, not a catalog. The kitchen, shaped by time in Tim Raue's orbit, turns out modern seasonal plates in smaller portions, the kind of format that quietly encourages you to keep ordering. Sleek room, confident cooking, and a crowd that came dressed for the Ku'damm.

  22. Rank 91. merold

    Modern German

A set-menu restaurant in Neukölln where the chef tends to wander out and explain the food himself, which somehow makes the whole thing feel less formal rather than more. The cooking is modern German, built around Brandenburg produce and stripped down to very few components per plate. Four or five courses, each arriving as a pair of dishes. The house-made bratwurst shows up as an optional add-on, which is either very humble or very confident.

  23. Rank 91. MINE

    Contemporary Italian

A family-run Italian restaurant steps from Ku'damm, occupying a space that was once, improbably, Berlin's smallest bar. The room is chic without being stiff, the menu leans on Italian classics with seasonal detours, and a pavement terrace gives the whole thing a relaxed, continental feel. A "Greatest Hits" set menu (for two or more) saves you from having to decide. The wine list is carefully chosen, and the cellar doubles as a private dining room.

  24. Rank 91. NaNum

    Contemporary Korean

The chef is also a ceramicist, and the plates under your food were made in the studio downstairs. NaNum is a set-menu-only contemporary Korean restaurant near the Jewish Museum, where a short multi-course meal leans on fermentation, regional produce, and some herbs from the team's own Brandenburg garden. The room is spare and quiet, the service warm, and the natural wines are a good match for food this precise.

  25. Rank 91. Norms

    German

German grandma's cooking, stripped of the heaviness and given a modern edge, is the pitch at this relaxed neighborhood restaurant tucked beside the Volkspark am Weinbergsweg. The menu leans into regional classics, think Königsberger Klopse and smoked sprats from Kiel, with enough refinement that the chic room doesn't feel like a contradiction. The team knows their wine list well enough to actually help. A small pavement terrace out front for when Berlin allows it.

  27. Rank 91. OTSUKA

    Sushi

A tiny omakase counter tucked inside a building near Nordbahnhof, sharing a roof with an organic supermarket, which tells you something about Berlin. The chef works right in front of you, pressing nigiri to order and sliding them across a plain wooden counter. Three seatings a day keep it unhurried, and the price point makes the whole thing feel slightly unreal for what lands in front of you.

    The awards

  28. Rank 91. Oukan

    Vegan Japanese

The entrance is tucked away enough that finding it feels intentional, and the long mirrored corridor before you reach the dining room rather sets the tone. Inside, a vegan Japanese tasting menu leans hard on fermentation, which the kitchen pursues seriously enough to run its own fermentation lab. The set menu is spare-looking on the plate and considerably more involved than it appears. Tea pairings are treated as a main event, not an afterthought.

This is a modern tasting-menu restaurant inside the Vienna House Andel's hotel, with chic urban décor softened by salvaged vintage doors that nobody can quite explain. The kitchen runs two five-course menus, one omnivore and one vegetarian, with wine or alcohol-free pairings on request. The staff are polished without being stiff about it.

  32. Rank 132. Gemello

    Vegan Pizzeria

The "mozzarella" here is made from tapioca starch and coconut oil, which tells you everything about Gemello's approach. It's a vegan pizza shop in Prenzlauer Berg where the chef, a trained chemical engineer, makes every substitute from scratch: almond ricotta, miso-tofu feta, eggplant anchovy. The crust runs thin with a wide, airy edge and toppings that hold their shape. Carnivores reportedly stop asking questions after the first slice. Book ahead.

  33. Rank 132. Malafemmena

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The founder traded a television career in Naples for a wood-fired oven in Friedenau, and the room feels like the trade worked out. This Neapolitan pizzeria has been around for a while now, and the dough still gets a long, slow rise before hitting the oven fast, producing a wide-crusted pie that leans hard into San Marzano tomatoes and Campanian fior di latte. It holds a spot on 50 Top Pizza Europe's Excellent Pizzerias list.

  34. Rank 132. Mamida

    Sourdough Pizzeria

The sourdough here is the work of a trained baker who minds his fermentations closely, and you can taste it in a crust that stays soft without going slack. Mamida is a casual pizza spot in Prenzlauer Berg where the toppings lean into odd, good combinations: fruit with cold cuts, seeds with cheese, sweet against heat. Natural wines and local craft beers round things out. The room is basic, unfussy, and loud in the way that suggests nobody came here to be impressed.

  35. Rank 132. Partenope 081

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The name nods to the siren of Greek myth said to have wept the Gulf of Naples into existence, and the 081 is Naples' own area code, so the allegiance is spelled out before you even sit down. This Friedrichshain pizzeria makes straightforward Neapolitan pies, no experiments, with a wide disc, a proper puffy crust from a long ferment, and toppings sourced directly from Campania. Order it folded to eat standing, the way Naples does.

The sourdough pizzas with 'nduja or mushroom cream are reason enough to find this side-street dining room in Prenzlauer Berg, but the chef's menu resists that label and most others. Call it a creative bistro, where pork shoulder with local vegetables sits near a milcheis sundae that quietly argues for German-American fusion as a legitimate lifestyle choice. The room is small and unhurried, the kind of place a neighborhood keeps to itself as long as possible.

  40. The Wiener schnitzel here arrives roughly the size of a dinner plate, which is either the point or a warning, depending on your appetite. Felix Austria is a candlelit, old-school Austrian restaurant on Bergmannkiez's increasingly polished main drag, serving a tight menu of schnitzel, goulash, and cheesy spätzle to a neighborhood that still remembers when this street was scruffy. Smaller portions are available, in case you'd like to walk home upright.

  44. One of Berlin's very few Yemeni restaurants sits on Karl-Marx-Straße, where the neighborhood defaults to Turkish and Syrian. The cooking pulls from the Arabian Peninsula, India, and the Horn of Africa at once, which sounds like a thesis statement but lands as a bowl of saucy lamb stew with flaky malawah to soak it up. The zurbian, slow-cooked meat over rice with yogurt, is the one to order when you're not sure where to start.

  45. A counter service spot in Prenzlauer Berg turning out Argentine empanadas, from the classic beefy Creole filling the name nods to, through spicy chicken and a ricotta-spinach version that landed via Italy. The shells are soft, wheaty, and smooth, which is either exactly what you want or a useful education in what Argentine empanadas actually are, depending on where you're coming from.

  46. The name signals the menu: larb, the punchy Lao-Thai salad, is the kind of dish most Berlin kitchens don't bother with. This small Thai restaurant in Friedrichshain skips the pad thai and goes regional instead, pulling from Southern curries and other corners of Thailand that rarely show up here. The chef isn't shy with spice, which is its own act of bravery in this city. A tight room, a tight menu, and food that doesn't soften itself for the neighborhood.

  49. A team behind the counter stretching dough rounds by hand tells you everything about the priorities at this Turkish flatbread spot in Gesundbrunnen. Lahmacun comes out fresh to order, topped with ground meat, herbs, and onion, and costs well under two euros apiece, which invites a certain reckless quantity. The chargrilled kebabs in fresh bread with a punishingly tangy garlic sauce pull equal weight. Expect a wait out front; the place is small and not a secret.

  50. Rank 136. Rüyam Gemüse Kebab

    Turkish Kebab Shop

The flatbread here is that specific combination of crispy outside and pillowy inside that makes a döner kebab feel like a structural achievement. This counter-serve spot in Schöneberg does chicken döner: tender, well-marinated meat, grilled vegetables, fresh herbs, a hit of lemon, and your choice of garlic or sesame sauce. Locals who know to avoid the tourist queue around the corner fill this place instead, which tells you most of what you need to know.

  53. Dozens of Thai vendors set up under bright umbrellas in a Wilmersdorf park on weekends, April through October, weather permitting. It's an outdoor street market tradition that's been around for decades, drawing people from across the city for homemade noodle soups, curries, and Isan-regional dishes cooked out of home kitchens. A recent relocation shifted things to Württembergische Strasse, just alongside the park, but the format stays the same: bring cash, find a patch of grass, eat well.

  54. Rank 136. Wen Cheng Handpulled Noodles

    Shaanxi Noodle Shop

Hand-pulled biang biang noodles in the Shaanxi style, wide as a belt and springy enough to make you think twice about every bowl of pasta you've ever eaten. This is a casual noodle shop, so expect a line, a short menu, and a very low bill. The vegan options hold their own alongside the beef. Berlin opened a third location partly so the city could stop queuing quite so dramatically for the first two.

  55. Rank 136. Zur letzten Instanz

    Berlin German

The building has been serving food and drink since the 1600s, which makes the laminated tourist menus feel almost beside the point. Zur letzten Instanz is a classic Berlin tavern in Mitte, all low ceilings and a courtyard garden, with a menu built around pork in its most serious forms. The eisbein, a slow-cooked knuckle, is the thing to order. Charlie Chaplin apparently ate here, which the staff have not forgotten.

  56. Rank 164. Lebensstern

    Cocktail Bar

A cocktail bar above Café Einstein where the bartenders wear jacket and tie and seem to shake drinks in rhythm with the mellow jazz on the jukebox. The back bar holds what might be the most gin bottles you've seen in one place, with vodka, whisky, and tequila collections filling the adjoining rooms. The crowd skews older and bookish, the kind that actually reads the spirits menu.

  57. Floor-to-ceiling windows face out onto Weserstraße, one of Neukölln's long, bar-every-other-door streets where someone is always playing music on the pavement. Tier is a cocktail bar done up in hunting-lodge-meets-art-deco, dim-lit and playing old rock, which makes it feel more settled than the DIY living-room spots around it. The neighborhood runs young and restless, and this is where they land when they want an actual bar.

  58. The back bar looks like an apothecary, all premium bottles and small wooden drawers, which sets the tone for what follows. This intimate cocktail bar fits about thirty people under a bronze ceiling with banquette seating along the grey walls, but the right stool at the far end of the bar, where the drinks are actually assembled, is the seat to take. Small, serious, and easy to linger in.

  59. Rank 169. Grill Royal

    Steakhouse

On the banks of the Spree, this Berlin steakhouse has been the city's most reliably glamorous social theatre for as long as anyone can remember. Dry-aged cuts from Germany, the US, and Japanese and Australian Wagyu go under a high-temperature broiler, and the room, all modern art and soft lighting, fills with politicians, artists, and regulars who all pretend not to notice each other. Ranked among the world's top steak restaurants, it earns that company.

  60. Rank 170. Bar Amano

    Cocktail Bar

Bird of paradise flowers in expensive vases, champagne in trough-sized ice buckets: Bar Amano does not pretend to be a dive. It's a hotel cocktail bar in Mitte with a lengthy list and bartenders happy to skip it entirely if you just tell them what you're drinking these days. The bay windows along the edge of the room are a good perch for watching Auguststraße do its thing.

  61. Two wire-sculpture monkeys greet you at the bar inside Das Stue Hotel, which backs onto the Tiergarten and is one of the few places in Berlin where the unwritten dress code tilts toward "actual effort." The lobby flows in with its glass cases of wooden animal carvings and shoes, but the bar itself goes clean and spare, all glass walls and open courtyard. Berlin is a relaxed city; this place hasn't gotten the memo, which is exactly the point.

  62. Rank 170. Galander

    Cocktail Bar

The owner built and decorated the room himself, then showed up in a waistcoat and bow tie to serve cocktails in it, which tells you almost everything about this cocktail bar in Kreuzberg. The space is comfortable rather than grand, with an upright piano at the back that gets used. It occupies an old German kneipe, and the bones of that neighborhood local are still very much present, which only makes the carefully made drinks feel more at home.

  63. A fresco of a woman extending a cocktail with the words "Mon Cheri" covers one wall, and the plastered ceiling carvings look like they took someone's entire back problem to complete. This small cocktail bar near Stuttgarter Platz occupies what was, by local account, a former red-light establishment, though the art nouveau restoration has thoroughly rebranded the premises. Come for the room as much as the drink.

  64. Rank 170. Immertreu

    Cocktail Bar

Silver chalices, a swizzle stick on the bar top, and a heavy cigar lighter in the bartender's hand set the tone at this Prenzlauer Berg cocktail bar. Smoking is legal in Berlin, and the team here leans into that with quiet theatrics. The technique behind the bar is precise and unhurried, the kind you watch without meaning to. A small, considered room where the drinks are taken seriously and the flourishes earn their place.

  65. Rank 170. Rum Trader

    Cocktail Bar

  66. Rank 170. Salut!

    Dive Bar

Tiffany lamps, glitter balls, and oil paintings share wall space with mounted boxes of trinkets, and somehow the whole mishmash holds together. Salut! is a neighbourhood bar on a Schöneberg street where graffitied apartment blocks meet boutique storefronts. Silent retro film clips play on the wall behind the bar, VW Beetles and bell-bottomed couples, scored only by whatever's on the stereo. The kind of place that feels like it's always been there.

  67. Rank 170. Saphire Bar

    Cocktail Bar

A former greengrocer's shop turned cocktail bar, Saphire now trades in brushed stainless steel and low-slung cream banquettes rather than root vegetables. The menu runs deep through classics, but the house specialty called Züchtigungsphantasien, which translates loosely as "disciplinarian fantasies," is what most people end up ordering. It's a berry mojito situation, which is either reassuring or a mild anticlimax depending on what you were expecting.

  68. Rank 170. The Bar at Marques

    Cocktail Bar

  69. Rank 170. The Grand

    Cocktail Bar

A granite bar the size of a small continent anchors this cocktail bar tucked around an internal courtyard in a townhouse that gives nothing away from the street. The room runs dark leather and dim light, and the menu leans into what it calls "restorative" drinks, fizzes and long pours served in bulbous wine glasses. The bleak façade is almost the point, keeping out anyone who needs a sign to find it.

  70. Rank 170. Victoria

    Cocktail Bar

The narrow room runs almost wall to wall with bar counter, lined with leather stools and framed by booth seating at each end. Victoria is a sleek cocktail bar on Potsdamer Strasse, a stretch that doesn't exactly telegraph "upmarket lounge," which may be why the crowd that found it feels faintly proprietary about the place. Dark wood panels, modern art, low light, the general sense that someone thought hard about this.

  71. Rank 170. Würgeengel

    Cocktail Bar

Named for the Buñuel film where dinner guests find themselves mysteriously unable to leave, this Kreuzberg neighborhood bar operates on exactly the same principle. You go for one drink. You stay for several, helped along by the fact that the Italian restaurant next door will send food over. Nobody seems to mind being stuck in the cul-de-sac off Oranienplatz. That's rather the point.

  72. Rank 182. Gainsbourg

    Cocktail Bar

A red velvet curtain parts and you're suddenly in a dimly lit, jazz-soaked room with clay walls hung in black-and-white photos of the man himself. Gainsbourg is a cocktail bar named after Serge, styled as an "American" bar but feeling more like a Paris side street, which suits the namesake just fine. The hedge-lined terrace works on a warm night, but the real pull is the moody interior.

  73. Prints of all 43 U.S. presidents line the walls, a nod to the straw polls the Paris Harry's ran during American elections. This cocktail bar inside the Grand Hotel Esplanade leans hard into the Parisian original, borrowing the dancing flies logo and the college pennants behind the bar. It has all the right props and none of the patina, which is the unavoidable fate of a 1988 replica trying to out-charm a place that opened before World War One.

  74. Rank 182. Hefner

    Cocktail Bar

  75. Rank 186. Booze Bar

    Cocktail Bar

A wall of squashed Coca-Cola cans, arranged with a precision that suggests someone had strong feelings about recycling, sets the tone at this Friedrichshain cocktail bar. The curved ceiling follows the line of the bar counter below, bare brick runs to the back of the room, and the whole place manages to look deliberately rough without trying too hard. The drinks, despite the edgy trappings, lean toward the classics.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
