  4. A grocery-bakery at the door sets the tone before you've sat down. Savage is a plant-forward set-menu restaurant in the Saint-Boniface neighbourhood, where the single nightly lineup leans on herbs and vegetables, with meat or fish available to add from the refrigerated counter by the restrooms, which is a very Savage way to handle the choice. The terrace catches the neighbourhood's easy energy, and the cooking is precise enough that the radish cream and the marinated carrot get their own moment.

  15. Rank 172. Soixante

    Polish Eastern European

Tables packed close enough that you'll learn your neighbor's business, and a window that makes the whole thing look like a dare. This is a creative restaurant where the chef's Polish roots steer the menu toward earthy, tangy combinations that tend to surprise. Pearl barley stands in for risotto rice, squid ink involved. The wine cellar is taken seriously, which the room's cosy, nostalgic clutter doesn't necessarily suggest it would be.

  17. A small card on each table names the local producers who supplied that day's ingredients, which tells you almost everything about this farm-to-table restaurant in the Ourthe valley. The menu changes weekly as fresh deliveries arrive, and the terrace under the grapevine trellis is where you want to be. The cooking is spontaneous and micro-seasonal, the kind of place where broad beans might show up alongside scented geranium and goat's milk.

It's a creative restaurant where the kitchen mixes classical technique with quiet surprises, European and Japanese both welcome at the table. The cooking is confident enough to pair calf's sweetbreads with anchovy without making it sound like a dare. Candlelit and unhurried, it pulls a crowd that dressed up on purpose.

The menu reads as playful without being precious, which is a harder balance than it sounds.

Tucked into the Sablon, one of Brussels' more self-satisfied corners, Senzanome is a fine dining room where the chef has spent years building a loyal following on Sicilian instincts run through a serious technical filter. The interior is cool and spare, pale tones and clean lines that step aside for the plate. Tasting menus carry the room's ambitions; the wine list leans deep Italian. You push through a curtain off the gravel path and land in an all-black room lit like a film set, which turns out to be a fine-dining Italian restaurant in Antwerp doing something genuinely unfamiliar: contemporary Italian cooking stripped of every cliché. The tasting menu is the move, built around obsessive sourcing and a kitchen that treats playfulness as a technique. It placed in the 50 Top Italy global rankings, which is quite a thing for a room this far from Rome.

The chef pairs clean, straightforward salmon maki with more restless ideas, like grilled red mullet topped with confit lemon, and the whole menu earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand for it. Sashimi, salads, and a solid take-away selection round things out, and sushi-making workshops run for anyone who wants to try their luck.

  70. The counter seats overlooking the open kitchen are the ones to grab at this vegetarian neighbourhood eatery in Antwerp, which holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The chef builds a plant-based, shareable menu around spices and umami balanced against bright, acidic notes, with a New York loft energy that feels less earnest than the genre usually manages. Vegan, unfussy, and easy on the wallet.

  71. The garden and terraces in Anderlecht are the draw on a warm day, and this casual Thai restaurant fills them fast. The cooking is unapologetically full-flavored, leaning into fresh herbs and layered spices the way a good Thai kitchen should. Portions are generous and prices are low enough that you'll order one more thing just because you can. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which tracks.

  72. Rank 671. Arti'Choc

The jars of house-made jam and limoncello lined up for sale say something about how the chef thinks about food. This cosy neighborhood restaurant in Eupen sits somewhere between a French bistro and a snug German stube, serving the kind of traditional cooking that leans on good sourcing rather than fuss. Zeeland mussels, local trout, chervil, almonds, apples. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the warmth of the room makes the food taste even better.

A regional restaurant tucked into a sleepy Ardennes village, earning a Michelin Bib Gourmand by cooking local produce from scratch with the kind of generosity that makes set menus feel like a deal. The food runs to foie gras terrine and plaice with pastis jus, which is to say classic Belgian country cooking done without fuss. There are rooms if you want to stay, and a pool that makes the decision considerably easier.

    Modern Mediterranean

A valley-wide panoramic view greets you before the food does, which is either a promise or a dare. This modern restaurant in Profondeville earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand with a menu that plays classical French against Mediterranean instincts, the kind of cooking where a spinach ice cream turns up beside Provençal herbs and somehow holds together. The set menu runs through several courses with genuine choices, and the front-of-house team clearly enjoys the room.

    Trattoria

An open kitchen and a garden terrace set the casual, sun-drenched tone at this family-run Sicilian trattoria in the Belgian countryside. The room leans into dolce vita warmth without taking itself too seriously, and a Michelin Bib Gourmand suggests the kitchen earns the mood rather than just decorating it. 81. Rank 671. Brasserie N4

    Modern French

The rolling Ardennes hills visible from every window do a lot of the work here, but the kitchen pulls its weight too. This family brasserie off the N4 runs on French classics given a generous modern hand, from mushroom soup with cured Ardennes ham to meat finished in a Josper charcoal oven with sauces that actually have opinions. The room leans into old-inn nostalgia without apology. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  82. Rank 671. Cadre Culinaire

    Modern French

A modern French restaurant in the small Belgian city of Huy where classical training and a genuine pastry obsession share the same kitchen. Desserts occasionally tip toward an Alsace upbringing. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks with the easygoing room and the prices.

  85. The dining room runs along the bank of the River Meuse, so every table gets the water. It's a Chinese restaurant focused on Zhejiang cooking, run by the Chen family, and the menu is long in a good way, moving from house-made dim sum through lacquered duck with crispy skin and the pancakes that go with it. Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
