The 100 Best Places to Eat and Stay in Brussels

The best places to eat and stay in Brussels, according to the experts: Michelin Guide, The 50, and Le Fooding have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Bozar Restaurant comes out on top.

More Less

Barge and Eliane hold the next two places. Le Fooding shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Michelin Guide next.

Departments

A department belongs to one section, so choosing one narrows the list to it.

  1. Karen Torosyan's pâté en croûte, made by reservation only and shown to you unbaked before it goes into the oven, is the kind of production that makes you sit very still. This two-Michelin-star modern French restaurant occupies a Victor Horta Art Nouveau building, so the room is already doing a lot. The kitchen revives ancestral French and Belgian technique with a precision that borders on meditative, puff pastry very much included.

  2. A Michelin-starred corner restaurant near the Brussels fish market where the menu is a surprise and the philosophy is not. The chef builds tasting menus around local, seasonal produce, then quietly pivots to something like wasabi sorbet without breaking a sweat. The room is deliberately unpolished, the wine list leans natural, and every decision on the plate seems to have been argued over before it arrived.

  3. Kobe Desramaults, who made his name at In De Wulf and Chambre Séparée, runs this Michelin-starred creative dining room in central Brussels with a lounge soundtrack and an open kitchen counter at its heart. The set menu changes daily, which keeps the chef honest and the regulars guessing. Expect bold, ingredient-focused cooking where the produce does most of the talking, and service polished enough to feel made-to-measure without being stiff about it.

  4. Rank 2. Kamo

    Japanese

A wood-lined counter in Ixelles where chef Kamo runs a quietly rigorous Japanese restaurant, Michelin-starred, with evenings given over to surprise tasting menus and lunches anchored by made-to-order sushi. The cooking is deceptively spare, built on the quality of raw fish rather than trophy ingredients. Minimal presentation, maximal attention to what's actually on the plate, which is the kind of restraint that takes years to pull off convincingly.

  5. Seventeenth-century flagstones underfoot, Magritte prints on the walls, and Belgian chocolates at turndown: this Rocco Forte hotel sits steps from the Grand Place in a Spanish Renaissance building that spent its early life as a prison. The rooms are quietly luxurious, Flemish antique furnishings alongside leather headboards and proper showerheads, with views that peak in the rooftop-facing suite. It holds a Michelin Key and a Forbes Four Star.

  6. Rank 5. La Paix

    French Fusion Japanese

A two-Michelin-star restaurant that has traded its old corner spot opposite the Anderlecht slaughterhouses for a grand Belle Époque hotel, La Paix is mid-move and temporarily closed. The kitchen's signature territory is French technique pulled toward Japanese restraint, with serious seafood running through most of it. A destination fine dining room, the kind where you dress up and clear your afternoon.

  7. A two-Michelin-starred restaurant tucked against the edge of the Sonian Forest, with a terrace that makes the woodland feel like part of the dining room. Pascal Devalkeneer runs the kitchen with a precision that reads as almost quiet, sourcing Aveyron lamb and Brittany abalone and honey from his own hives. The sommelier leans hard toward Burgundy, which, given the cooking, is not a bad instinct.

  8. A Neoclassical building on the Place des Martyrs that could have gone stiff and grand, but Juliana plays it as a boutique hotel instead, 37 rooms and six suites with mansard roofs, timbered ceilings, and enough murals to keep you from staring at your phone. Art fills every corner of the public spaces too. The spa and indoor pool sit downstairs, a swanky restaurant and dramatically low-lit bar round things out, and the Magritte Museum is a short walk away. Michelin awarded it 2 Keys.

  9. You walk past a small grocery counter before landing in a warm, book-and-bottle-lined Italian restaurant where the menu changes whenever the delivery does. The chef builds the whole thing around short supply chains and hand-made pasta, keeping plates clean and unfussy so the ingredients carry the weight. A natural wine list and a summer terrace make it easy to stay longer than planned.

  10. Rank 10. Agnes

    Modern French

A former presbytery beside a village church, Agnes is a Michelin-starred modern French restaurant where the room still feels like someone's home and the cooking leans hard into classical sauces and impeccable sourcing. The chef's style is generous rather than showy, hop shoots and hare sitting comfortably alongside Burgundy wine pours. A crowd of knowing diners tends to fill this kind of place and never look at the clock.

  11. The Art Nouveau interior by Horta, all stained glass and sinuous ironwork, sets the scene before anyone's opened a menu. This is classic fine dining in the old Brussels sense, the kind of room where sauces are taken seriously and the fourth generation of the same family is still running the pass. A Michelin star. The wine cellar doubles as a private dining room for those who want something a shade more contemporary.

  12. Rank 10. Da Mimmo

    Contemporary Italian

A charismatic maître d' meets you at the door of this sleek fine dining room in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, and the tone is set before you've even sat down. The chef holds a Michelin star for contemporary Italian cooking that leans into bold combinations and surprising textures, the kind of menu where guinea fowl arrives with truffle polenta and giblet fritters. The sommelier keeps pace with a thoughtful Italian-leaning wine list.

  13. The Art Nouveau glass roof in Café Wiltcher's tells you what kind of hotel this is before you've even checked in. The grand old Beaux Arts pile on Avenue Louise has been hosting the famous and the fashionable for ages, and after serious renovations the rooms are properly modernized, with soaking tubs and butler service in the suites. Afternoon tea draws stylish locals alongside guests, and the spa's infinity pool is available for a fee.

  14. Gilded ceilings and frescoes of angels overhead, and a plant-based tasting menu below, which is either a contradiction or a perfect match. This Michelin-starred restaurant in Ixelles has been doing zero-waste, micro-seasonal vegetable cooking since well before it was a dinner-party talking point. The sommelière runs a beverage program serious enough to match the kitchen, and the whole operation publishes a sustainability report, because of course it does.

  15. The elevator takes you to the 23rd floor, then you walk up two more flights of stairs, which feels like a prank until you see the view across Brussels from a glass-walled fine dining room perched above the city. The open kitchen puts the chef's precision on full display, and the cooking pairs delicate French technique with genuinely playful combinations. La Villa holds a Michelin star, and the à la carte option at lunch keeps it from feeling like a commitment.

  16. Rank 10. Maison Marit

    Classic French

Sheep and deer graze just beyond the terrace, which sets the tone for this classic French restaurant outside Brussels: formal enough to mean it, but rooted in the land around it. The kitchen holds a Michelin star and leans into the rich, full-bodied sauces that French cooking built its reputation on. An old-school institution that has been drawing the faithful for generations, and the second-generation chef shows no interest in reinventing the formula.

  17. Rank 10. Menssa

    Sushi

Guests eat at an undulating counter beneath a carved wooden tree, which sets the tone for what follows: a Michelin-starred tasting menu built around sustainable sourcing and a deep affection for the Belgian region. Christophe Hardiquest shapes a menu that treats mushrooms and Ardennes venison with the same seriousness, and the sommelier's pairings come at prices that won't require a lie-down afterward.

  18. Rank 10. Philippe Meyers

    Modern French

A wall of collected Michelin Guides lines this small, warm dining room in Braine-l'Alleud, which tells you something about how seriously the chef takes his craft. The cooking is Modern French with a deep loyalty to Walloon producers, and the menu is priced to make you order more than you planned. One Michelin star. Valérie runs the front of house with genuine warmth, and she'll happily explain why each dish exists before you've even asked.

  19. Rank 10. Piola Pizza

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

A Neapolitan pizza spot in the Saint-Josse neighborhood where the dough gets treated like a serious project, soft inside with a caramelized edge that holds up without fuss. The menu mixes Italian classics with seasonal combinations, ingredients imported from Italy, and a rotating selection that keeps things from going stale. Cocktails, including a mandarin one worth ordering, round out the picture. It holds a spot on 50 Top Pizza Europe and 50 Top Pizza World.

  20. Rank 20. Alley Mian

    Chinese Islamic Noodle Shop

A cook pulls and folds noodles to order in full view of the dining room, which sets the tone for everything at this small, no-reservations noodle shop near the Théâtre de la Monnaie. The broth is Lanzhou-style, built deep and left unadorned. Michelin gave it a Bib Gourmand, and the lunch queue most days makes the argument more plainly. Go early, go hungry, and don't expect to linger.

  21. Rank 20. ANJU

    Contemporary Korean

Sang Hoon Degeimbre, the chef behind L'Air du Temps, strips things back here to explore his Korean roots. In a minimalist room in Saint-Gilles, the kitchen puts out sharing plates built around hotpots, kimchi, and slow-cooked meats, the kind of food that reads as generous rather than studied. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the sort of contemporary Korean spot where the bill won't send you outside to quietly recalibrate.

  22. Black-and-white tile floors, bistro chairs, and enamel signs covering every available wall surface: this neighbourhood bistro in the leafy outskirts of Brussels has the bones of a classic. The slate menu runs French-leaning traditional, heavy on country pâté, long-simmered stews, and frites cooked to order. A Michelin Bib Gourmand keeps the regulars from having it entirely to themselves. Good run of local beers and natural wines to see it all through.

  23. Rank 20. Babam

    Contemporary French

A bistronomic neighborhood spot tucked into a leafy Brussels suburb, Babam runs a concise lunch menu and a fuller evening one, both shaped by a young team that came up through serious kitchens. The cooking is French contemporary with flashes of bright acidity and the kind of technical confidence that doesn't announce itself. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the sort of place locals probably don't tell people about on purpose.

  24. Brutalist concrete and a casual room that makes no apologies for either. Kline is a modern neighborhood restaurant where the menu leans on local sourcing, vegetables, and seasonal instincts, with global flavors folded in wherever they fit. The à la carte lineup skews well toward vegetarian and is designed to share. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the kind of place where the food does the talking without the room dressing up for it.

Walk past the deli counter and wine bottles on your way to a table, then order things meant to be passed around: rustic country cooking with a Mediterranean turn that nobody saw coming. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the price point matches the unpretentious mood.

  26. Rank 20. Le Tournant ️

    French Wine Bar

The Matongé district's energy seeps right into this small neighborhood restaurant, where the cooking leans on old-school French comfort food with quiet creative detours. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, Le Tournant pairs unfussy, grandmother-style dishes with natural wines chosen by a sommelier who takes that job seriously. The room fills with locals who clearly have a regular table, and the food tastes like someone actually cooked it rather than assembled it.

    Contemporary Vietnamese

The organizing idea at this contemporary Vietnamese restaurant in Saint-Gilles is anh nhau, a tradition of sharing food and drink with people you like, which turns out to be a fine excuse to order three dishes minimum. The kitchen takes classical Vietnamese flavors somewhere quieter and stranger, lamb wontons and duck's tongues landing alongside smart cocktails. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the kind of place that makes a Tuesday feel considered.

  28. Tucked near the old fish market, this Greek taverna runs through a long modern corridor before opening into a brick-walled, wood-tabled room that feels lifted from a quieter part of Athens. The menu leans into mezzes and the kind of full-flavored cooking that makes a meal stretch pleasantly long. The wine list pulls from Greece and skews affordable. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  32. San Degeimbre's contemporary brasserie sits inside Brussels' converted rail freight terminus, a post-industrial complex that still feels faintly surprised to be hosting dinner. 35. A former art college turned boutique hotel in Saint-Gilles, JAM leans hard into the brutalist bones of its 1970s building, which the younger end of Brussels has decided is exactly the right aesthetic. Rooms run from dorms and singles to private six-person suites, all plywood built-ins and colorful vintage finds. The public spaces are the draw: a Japanese bathhouse with ten private tubs, a rooftop plunge pool, and a bar where locals outnumber the guests.

  36. Rank 30. Jayu

    Contemporary Korean

Twelve stools around a counter, one table, three bells to signal the start of service, and a two-hour tasting menu in twelve courses that Sang Hoon Degeimbre shapes around Korean fermentation, fruit, and spice. The room reads like a speakeasy, all theatrical hush, and the food leans into doenjang, umami, and smoke rather than the usual European fine-dining playbook. A Michelin Selected restaurant tucked behind the noise of Rue de Flandre.

  37. Rank 30. L'épicerie Nomad

    Mediterranean

The slate menu here draws no line between starters and mains, which sets the tone for a casual, tightly packed eatery where the cooking roams freely between mezze, couscous, and grilled beef. The Mediterranean and French instincts sit comfortably together, and the wine list is short but considered. It's the kind of neighborhood spot where no one's trying to impress you, yet the kitchen clearly has ideas.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
