The Best Belgian Food in the United States

The best Belgian food in the United States, according to the experts: AAA and Eater have both weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Taste of Belgium - Rookwood comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Cincinnati and Houston.

More Less

Taxman Brewing Cityway Gastropub and Belga Cafe/The Betsy hold the next two places. Eater shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with AAA next.

  1. A Belgian bistro that takes the waffle seriously enough to turn it into a vehicle for a Hot Brown, which is either inspired or unsettling depending on your feelings about Kentucky. Waffles and galettes anchor the menu alongside steak frites and mussels, with an open kitchen and hardwood floors giving the room a casual, neighborhood feel. The s'mores waffle exists, and that seems like information worth having.

  2. The ales are named after tax terms, which is either the best brewing pun or the most on-brand origin story you'll ever hear. This gastropub a few blocks from Lucas Oil Stadium pours Belgian-style beers alongside a menu built on Indiana-grown meat and produce. The kitchen leans hearty, think brisket croquettes and beer-battered pork tenderloin with Belgian fries. The cocktail list takes itself only slightly more seriously than the beer names do.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
