The Best Filipino Food in the United States

Sections

Tap another section to add it. All sections

The best Filipino food in the United States, according to the experts: AAA, the Michelin Guide, and the James Beard Awards have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Kasama comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Chicago and San Francisco.

More Less

Restaurant Naides and Archipelago hold the next two places. The Infatuation shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Eater close behind.

  1. Rank 1. Kasama

    Filipino

Kasama takes its name from the Tagalog word for "together," which tells you something about the whole project. It's a tasting menu restaurant in Wicker Park where a husband-and-wife team reimagines Filipino cuisine with fine dining precision, two Michelin stars, and a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Great Lakes. Traditional preparations get elegant, inventive treatment, and the pastry work is serious enough to hold its own.

  2. Menus printed on pineapple-leaf paper set the tone at this intimate tasting counter in Nob Hill, where the team reimagines Filipino pantry staples through fermentation, foraging, and the kind of tweezered precision that signals a long night ahead (in the good way). The twelve-course menu pulls Californian foraged ingredients into dishes rooted in tradition without being enslaved to it. Dressed-up but not stiff, the sort of place that earns its formality by actually being fun.

  3. Twelve seats, one seating, and roughly ten courses tracing the Philippines' complicated history with the Pacific Northwest. This intimate tasting room in South Seattle builds menus around heirloom grains, fermented local produce, and house-rolled miki noodles while serving up genuine cultural context alongside every plate. A James Beard nominee for Outstanding Chef, the chef here makes the backstory feel inseparable from the food, which is a harder trick than it sounds.

  5. The line out front of this Doraville strip-mall spot does the advertising. Kamayan ATL is a Filipino neighborhood restaurant built around kamayan, the tradition of eating communally by hand, and the family-style menu leans into classics and regional dishes with equal confidence. A James Beard semifinalist, it started as a pop-up and never lost that devoted, word-of-mouth energy. Book ahead; the room is small and the fans are loyal.

  7. Rank 7. Kaya

    Modern Filipino

A small bungalow in Orlando's Mills 50 district, Kaya runs a modern Filipino tasting menu that moves through multiple courses with a rotating cast of local seafood and central Florida produce. The kitchen riffs on classic Filipino flavors rather than replicate them, and the open kitchen keeps things convivial for a neighborhood spot. A James Beard nominee, it draws the kind of crowd that actually reads the menu before they sit down.

  8. Rank 8. Musang

    Filipino

Filipino food done with a chef's instincts, Musang is a sit-down restaurant on Beacon Hill where the menu rotates by season and earns a James Beard nomination for a reason. Melissa Miranda's cooking stays rooted in Filipino flavors while letting dishes go wherever they want, so a side of greens in adobo can quietly outshine everything else on the table. Come with people you like sharing with.

  9. Rank 9. Kultura

    Filipino

Filipino cooking in a small Spring Street dining room where many tables just order the whole menu. Chef Nikko Cagalagan, a 2024 James Beard Emerging Chef nominee, runs the kitchen on induction burners and a small oven, which explains either the focus or the ambition, probably both. The dishes read like home cooking filtered through a chef's eye, precise in portion and element count, and grounded in local pork, oysters, and fish.

  10. Rank 10. Abacá

    Filipino

Pork belly adobo with pineapple is the kind of dish that explains what this Filipino restaurant inside the Kimpton Alton Hotel is trying to do, which is honor traditional flavors and then quietly push past them. The kitchen came up through a pop-up circuit, and the ambition carried over. The family-style "paubaya" option hands the whole meal to the chef, a move that tends to reward the trusting. The New York Times put it on their restaurant list in 2022.

  11. Carlo Lamagna built out much of this corner dining room himself, and that DIY spirit still reads in the space. Magna Kusina is a modern Filipino restaurant on a quiet Clinton Street block, with a bar program and chef's counter rounding out the room. The squid ink noodles with crab fat have become one of those Portland dishes people bring up unprompted. The chef was a James Beard nominee in 2022.

  13. Rank 13. Boonie's

    Filipino

Every time someone lifts the lid on the rice cooker, garlic fills this narrow Filipino restaurant on Western and essentially announces the whole menu's priorities. Started as a food stall, it holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard semifinalist nod. Pork runs the show in several forms, steelhead trout swims in tamarind broth for balance, and the deep-fried plantain spring roll dusted in brown sugar is the kind of dessert that reframes what dessert can be.

  14. Rank 14. Kilig

    Filipino

A postcard mural splashes the back wall of this fast-casual Filipino spot in the International District, setting the tone for a menu that's equally unsubtle about what it loves. Bulalo, the clear beef shank soup, is the centerpiece, and Melissa Miranda's kitchen pulls it off with enough technique to make a simple bowl feel considered. The pancit, the lumpia, the sinigang wings, all travel well in the same direction. The New York Times has named it among Seattle's 25 best.

  15. Rank 15. Side Practice Coffee

    Filipino Coffee Shop

A tiny Filipino coffee shop in Bowmanville where the menu leans on flavors you won't find at any other cafe in the city. Pandan, ube, and macadamia nuts show up where oat milk and brown sugar usually do. The room is small enough that regulars eventually stop ordering off the menu and let the baristas improvise. Its sibling spot, Drip Collective, handles the Fulton Market crowd if you need more elbow room.

  17. Pandan piña coladas and crackling pork belly set the tone at this contemporary Filipino restaurant in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood, where aquatic blue tiles and trailing vines give the room a loose, coastal ease. The menu swings between dinner and weekend brunch, and both hold up well. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, it draws a crowd happy to wait at the bar, cocktail in hand, for a table that's worth the patience.

  18. Rank 18. Baking With Ish

    Filipino Bakery

  19. Rank 18. Ludi’s Restaurant

    Filipino Diner

Ludi's is a Filipino diner a few steps from Pike Place Market, which means a line of people who skipped the fish-throwing and went straight for breakfast. The headliner is the ube pancakes, rice flour flapjacks under a coconut glaze the color of a highlighter, with a sweetness that stays on the right side of dessert. It's a casual, counter-and-booth morning spot, so wear whatever you had on.

  20. Wood-paneled walls, beers on tap, a game on the TV, and then the menu arrives and reminds you that the chef grew up in the Pacific Rim. The Duchess reads like a neighborhood pub but cooks like something else entirely. The shrimp and corn patties, crisp and spiced with Chamorro chile paste, landed on the New York Times list of best dishes eaten across the country in 2025. Wear whatever you'd wear to a bar.

  21. Rank 21. Kayu

    Filipino

  22. Rank 22. Kalesa Coffee

    Filipino Coffee Shop

Kalesa Coffee is a tiny Filipino coffee shop on the ground floor of a brick office building in Eliot, and finding it means spotting a horse sign and walking through a gate that is, reassuringly, unlocked. The drinks lean on Filipino flavors, like cold brew crowned with violet ube cream and an espresso tonic sharpened with calamansi. The guava empanadas in the pastry case tend to vanish, so arrive early or make peace with it.

  24. A lunch counter tucked inside a Filipino grocery across from Pike Place Market, Oriental Mart runs on handwritten signs and a stainless steel aesthetic that hasn't changed in decades. The adobo and sinigang feel like exactly the kind of food that connects strangers, which is probably why the wifi password is "TALK TO EACH OTHER." Skip the fish throwers; eat here.

  25. Rank 25. Tabachoy

    Filipino

A casual BYOB in Bella Vista where the adobo arrives as braised chicken in waves of vinegar and deep umami, and people tend to remember it. The Caesar gets a hit of bagoong, the fermented fish paste that makes a Filipino pantry tick, and the broccoli rabe nods to the South Philly block it sits on. Bring a bottle, bring a friend who wants to share everything, and leave the menu nowhere near unfinished.

  27. This is a Filipino supermarket with a food court attached, so dress for a cart and bring a stomach with a plan. Grill City turns out whole squid, skewers, and chicharones fried to order, while a steam-table station carves slices off a roast pig. Do a lap of the aisles before committing, then stop at the bakery by the exit, where the ube is so thorough it borders on a personality.

  28. A fish tail peeking out of a metal pot at the next table sets the tone at this no-frills Filipino homestyle spot in Woodside's Little Manila. The kitchen has been around forever, and the cooking skips any fuss: eggplant sealed in pork-threaded omelet, ginger-bright chicken soup, and chicken adobo that The Infatuation called one of New York's defining dishes. The New York Times put it at number 68 on its 2026 list of the city's 100 best restaurants.

  33. Rank 35. Estrellita

    Modern Filipino

A small, walk-in-only Filipino restaurant in Grant Park where the kitchen is simultaneously running dine-in, takeout, and catering without breaking a sweat. The menu leans into classics: lechon roasted Cebu-style with lemongrass and crispy skin, lumpia in beef and vegetable forms. Expect a wait, because patience is baked into the deal here. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks for a place this compact and this focused.

  35. The menu is written in Tagalog, and the owner will happily talk you through it. Lasang Pinoy is a Filipino family restaurant in Rogers where the chef in the kitchen learned to cook from his mother, who still stops by. Lumpia, lechon kawali, chicken adobo, and whole fried snapper on the specials board all land on lazy susans for big groups. The New York Times named it to their 2026 Restaurant List. Karaoke is available, if you need the full evening.

  36. Rank 38. JP Makes and Bakes

    Filipino Bakery

This is a small bakery-cafe on Woodward where Filipino pastries, ube cookies, and pandesal stuffed with coconut or cream cheese share a counter with longganisa biscuits and gravy. Doughnuts show up on a schedule, so Saturday bomboloni with a rotating monthly filling are a loose appointment you have to keep. About ten seats, a few espresso drinks, and a calamansi soda that makes your usual lemonade feel underdressed. Eater has named it among Detroit's best coffee shops and doughnut shops.

  38. Rank 40. Cebu

    Filipino Diner

  39. Isla Detroit is a fast-casual Filipino spot in Sterling Heights, with rice bowls, noodle bowls, and entrees drawn from the cooking of Iloilo. You order at the counter, so no one will ask how your evening is going. The pastry chef co-owns the place, which explains the ube cakes in that unapologetic purple, and the Buko Halo-Halo for dining in, a tower of crushed ice, milk, and jellies. Eater has listed it among metro Detroit's top restaurant desserts.

  40. Pork belly rolled tight with lemongrass and garlic, skin so crisp a fork won't crack it on the first try: that's the draw at this fast-casual Filipino counter in a Rockville strip mall. The lechon belly comes in sandwiches with atchara, over rice, or paired with other meats from the chef's rotation. Save room for desserts from the pastry shop run by his sister next door. The New York Times put it on its D.C. restaurant list, which tracks.

  44. Filipino breakfast plates are the whole point at this Campbell bistro, where every order arrives as a tapsilog: garlic rice, over-easy eggs, and a protein on top. The fried pork hock is the one to order, a full crunchy hock that needs its soy-vinegar-chile dipping sauce to keep things honest. Mimosas come in calamansi, guava, or mango, which feels very right. The San Francisco Chronicle named it among the Bay Area's top brunch spots.

  46. Yellow booths, green walls, and neon lighting make Tambayan look like someone decorated with pure enthusiasm, which turns out to be the right call for a Filipino homestyle restaurant that spent years as a pop-up and food truck before landing a permanent spot on Camelback. The halo halo, layered and rainbow-colored, is the dessert equivalent of that same energy. Phoenix New Times named it the city's top Filipino restaurant.

  47. Rank 50. Sarima

    Filipino-Indian

Sarima is a small bakery that shares a room with a burger chain, which is the kind of living arrangement that sounds like a sitcom premise. The pastries mix Filipino and Indian flavors, so the donuts come filled with calamansi and shrikhand cream, and the cookies borrow from kaju katli. There are a few tables, but most people treat it as a grab-and-go morning stop before work.

  52. Rank 57. The Fattened Caf

    Filipino Barbecue

The Fattened Caf is a casual counter-order spot that happens to be St. Louis's only Filipino barbecue joint, which means a pitmaster and a Filipina chef got married and the rest of us got smoked chicken rubbed with burnt coconut. The pork steak, a local obsession, comes marinated in Filipino spices over java rice. Grab a rattan couch up front and share the room with strangers, or bring a crew to the big tables in back.

  55. Rank 62. CheBogz

    Filipino

Pork belly sisig arrives still sizzling on a cast-iron plate, which tells you most of what you need to know about the room. This Filipino restaurant near the Beacon Hill light rail grew out of a food truck the family started after redevelopment shuttered their first spot, and the new stationary digs feel more like a return than a debut. Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
