The best Mediterranean food in the United States, according to the experts: the Michelin Guide, the James Beard Awards, and The Rammys have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. March comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in New York.
More Less
Rooster & Owl and Imperfecto hold the next two places. The Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with AAA next.

Rank 1. March
Mediterranean
The tasting menu here rotates through a single Mediterranean region at a time, from the Maghreb to Andalusia to Greece, so what you eat depends entirely on when you show up. It's a fine dining experience with a Michelin star and serious beverage program to match, starting with cocktails in the lounge before the main dining room takes over. The whole thing moves with a warmth that keeps the ambition from tipping into ceremony.

Mediterranean
A four-course prix-fixe in Columbia Heights where cacio e pepe shows up as a Bartlett-pear salad and no one bats an eye. Chef Yuan Tang's menu roams freely from steakhouse classics to Southeast Asian detours, and the mix-and-match format means the bar can match wine to whatever path you picked. It holds a Michelin star, and the room skews lively enough that "fine dining" undersells how relaxed the whole thing feels.

Latin Mediterranean
A glass-and-marble box that practically dares the sky to blink first, Imperfecto is a modernist Latin American fine dining room where the counter seats directly under the chef's station feel like a restaurant folded inside another one. The menu works through Latin flavors with precise, elaborate technique, and a Michelin star backs the ambition. Bring patience, an appetite, and someone worth sitting across from for a long evening.

Elevated Mediterranean Bistro
The chefs live upstairs, which explains why this Craftsman-on-5th Avenue bistro feels less like a restaurant and more like a very good dinner party you somehow got invited to. The cooking leans Mediterranean with a California coast accent, prix fixe, and a Michelin star to its name. The canelés alone have sparked quiet obsession among regulars. A James Beard nominee, and the kind of place Carmel somehow earned.

Mediterranean
The brick-and-skylight nave of a former bakery on La Brea sets the stage for one of those all-day operations that actually pulls off both halves. Mornings belong to the pastry counter, where the team's James Beard Award-winning work draws lines before the doors open. By evening the open kitchen is running a Southern European Mediterranean menu for a full dining room that never quite empties.

A warm chocolate chip tahini cookie arrives at the end of a meal that was never really about restraint. This boisterous Mediterranean restaurant in San Diego's East Village was opened by a chef who spent years running kitchens for Daniel Boulud in New York before heading home. Vegetables and seafood share the menu with enough spice and char to keep things interesting. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand.

White tablecloths and cream walls give Crevette the look of a classic European brasserie, but the cooking runs along the coasts of Spain and France with enough color to make you forget Manhattan is outside. This is a proper seafood restaurant, lively and full, with the bar pulling its own crowd. The team behind Lord's and Dame keeps the room humming and the martini list pointed.

Glossy emerald-green tiles frame an open kitchen inside the Tampa EDITION, where John Fraser runs a plant-forward contemporary Mediterranean prix-fixe. The menu moves through a sequence of bites, small plates, and mains, leaning on seasonal vegetables without making a point of it. The wine list skews expensive. The entire room is wood-plank from floor to ceiling, which either reads as cozy or a fire hazard, depending on your mood. This West Randolph wine restaurant has been packed since forever, with regulars jostling for counter stools and close-set tables to graze through a seasonal Mediterranean menu. The plates are bold, colorful, and generously sized, and the wine list leans into the food rather than upstaging it.

The wood-fired octopus and French-Italian Riviera menu signal the ambitions clearly: this is fine dining, downtown Milwaukee, with tablecloths to match. Adam Siegel, who holds a James Beard Best Chef Midwest award for earlier work, shapes a kitchen that leans toward the sun-drenched coast without ever feeling like a theme. A James Beard nominee for Best New Restaurant, it draws the kind of crowd that books ahead and doesn't check the prices twice.

The art deco bones of this Walnut Hills live-fire Mediterranean restaurant are half the reason to book a table, the kitchen being the other half. The chef leans hard into the eastern Mediterranean, the kind of cooking where roasted vegetables become pita dips and hamachi collar gets a glossy glaze. Regulars have already claimed favorite bartenders, which for a restaurant this new is saying something. A 2024 New York Times Restaurant List pick and a 2025 James Beard Emerging Chef semifinalist.

Brick floors, creeping vines, and a crowd that seems to have been cast by a Venice Beach location scout. This Abbot Kinney institution is a Mediterranean restaurant built around wood-fired pizzas and shared plates, with vegetables doing serious heavy lifting on the menu. Maritime murals and leather benches set the mood at this fine dining Mediterranean spot off the Strip, where the kitchen leans hard into Italy and Spain with a particular fondness for Catalonian tapas. Mediterranean
Sitting inside the Four Seasons Fort Lauderdale, this modern Mediterranean restaurant earns its own reason to show up, with a menu that pulls from Levantine cooking and slips in Floridian touches along the way. The room faces the pool and the Atlantic beyond it, which is either inspiring or distracting depending on your dining companion. The kitchen leans into spreads, skewers, and the kind of food that makes a long dinner feel easy.

Apolonia is a hotel restaurant in the South Loop with the calm, spare look of a place that doesn't need to shout, and a Euro-Mediterranean menu with white-tablecloth ambitions. The handmade pastas are the main event, and a truffle puff bread arrives at the table with enough theater to turn heads two booths over. Its sommelier took home a Banchet, so the wine list probably isn't an afterthought. Dress like you've been somewhere.

The corner windows at this Mediterranean restaurant pull you in before you've even touched the door, and the room inside delivers on the promise: open, sunny, and staffed by people who seem to mean it. The kitchen ranges from Morocco to Syria to Spain without breaking a sweat, and the booths fill fast enough that the long counter bar exists for a reason. The wine program earned a James Beard Semifinalist nod, which in Dallas is its own kind of conversation starter.

A converted warehouse in Little Italy with barrel-vaulted ceilings and enough candlelight to make everyone look good, Herb & Wood is a wood-fired New American restaurant where the menu swings from blistered pizzas to venison over buttermilk polenta without losing its footing. A snug Georgetown lunch counter where the glass case does most of the talking: lentils with smoky eggplant, leek-and-walnut tarts, spinach-feta börek, and a dairy-free zucchini soup that has no business being that good. The chef was a James Beard semifinalist in 2025, which explains why a takeout counter feels like such a considered place.

A neighborhood Mediterranean grill in Scripps Ranch where the wine list runs from rare cellar vintages to a house label the owner bottles himself in Fallbrook. The menu moves through steaks, lamb, fresh seafood, and chicken, and the service team treats tables like a dinner party they threw. The kind of place where regulars have a standing order and out-of-towners wonder how they've never heard of it.

Botanical prints on pale walls, a red brick patio out back, and an Italian Mediterranean restaurant that treats a seasonal wine list as seriously as the kitchen treats pasta. The bucatini and the clams suggest the Mediterranean mindset is more than decorative. Queen Village locals who know their way around a wine list fill the bar up front while the dining room stays unhurried.

Sonny's is a bright counter-service spot in the Highlands where the whole decision tree fits on one hand: pita, salad, or plate, then falafel, chicken, or both. The chef came over from Safta, and the sauces are all made from scratch, so an extra cup of harissa is the move. The zhoug is for people who have lost an argument with their taste buds before and want a rematch.

A rooftop restaurant on Second Street where a cactus garden gives way to a sunset room lined with wood and stone, and the Pacific sits just beyond the windows. The kitchen works the Southern Mediterranean register in shareable small plates, the kind where flavors land a little sideways in the best sense. Melissa Perello's neighborhood restaurant on 17th Street is the kind of place that makes you resent everyone who lives within walking distance. The menu is hyper-seasonal and leans Californian-Mediterranean, served family style, with house-made pastas and roasted vegetables doing the heavy lifting instead of anything that comes out of a squeeze bottle. Reservations are genuinely hard to get, but the room is warm and the staff acts like they mean it.

Copper pots hang from the ceiling, a bicycle or two lean against the wall, and the wooden chairs are the kind that invite you to stay longer than you planned. Mediterranean restaurant in Tampa's Channelside District, opened as a family tribute to a great-grandmother whose life traced a coastal arc from Brazil through Portugal to New England. By the Sea is a big Mediterranean-leaning restaurant on Orange Avenue in Coronado, done up in white oak, rattan, and cobblestones shipped over from Italy, which is a lot of luggage for a seaside lunch. Manakish are pizza-sized Lebanese flatbreads, and this fast-casual spot in Walnut Creek has built its whole identity around them. The menu runs from simple za'atar to meat-and-cheese loaded versions, plus wraps, bowls, and kebab plates, with weekend brunch on top. Patterned tiles and Turkish mosaic chandeliers give the room more personality than the format usually bothers with.
