The Best Breakfast in the United States

The best breakfast in the United States, according to the experts: The Infatuation, Eater, and The New York Times have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Superiority Burger comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Denver and San Francisco.

More Less

Cullum's Attaboy and Lula Cafe hold the next two places. The Infatuation shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with Eater next.

  1. Rank 1. Superiority Burger

    Vegetarian American

The quinoa-chickpea-walnut burger that made Brooks Headley famous is still on the menu at this vegetarian burger shop in the East Village, now in a bigger room with vintage diner bones. Nothing here pretends to be meat, which turns out to be the whole point. The Michelin Bib Gourmand and a New York Times top-100 spot follow naturally from cooking that treats bold seasoning and smart texture as the actual job. Save room for dessert; Headley came up as a pastry chef.

  2. A chalkboard outside suggests a Champagne breakfast, and inside this little bungalow on the St. Mary's strip, that feels like the most sensible advice you'll get all week. Cullum's Attaboy is a walk-in, counter-service brunch spot doing affordable French luxury, think proper omelets, hollandaise, and caviar appearing with suspicious regularity. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and a James Beard nomination followed.

  3. A neighborhood restaurant in Logan Square that won a James Beard Award for Outstanding Hospitality, which tells you something before you've even sat down. The menu rotates with the seasons, so regulars show up trusting the kitchen rather than ordering from memory. The room fills fast from morning through dinner, and the bar in the adjacent space is a solid solo option. The Michelin Guide lists it as a Bib Gourmand.

  4. The sourdough, pasta, and pizza all come from a dedicated production area you can see from the dining room, which tells you something about how seriously this Arts District Italian restaurant takes the basics. Dark walls, vintage silver trays, and a big welcoming U-shaped wood bar give it a rustic warmth that feels nothing like the Strip. The seasonal menu leans farm-forward and the Michelin Bib Gourmand makes the price-to-pleasure math easy.

  5. You don't see a menu at this Michelin-starred brunch tasting room in the Castro, which is either thrilling or mildly terrifying depending on your personality. The cooking is bold and a little chaotic in the best way, built on serious fine dining technique but with zero fussiness about it. Blue-and-white checkered floors and a big mural set the tone: this is not a quiet eggs-and-mimosas situation.

  6. The color-splashed facade in Wynwood is hard to miss, and the line of regulars out front means you won't either. This all-day kosher bakery and cafe runs on naturally leavened breads and pastries, with sandwiches, soups, and salads filling out the menu. The seasonal concha tends to disappear fast. A James Beard nominee for Outstanding Baker, Zak Stern trained on organic farms across Europe before bringing the whole project back home to Miami.

  7. Rank 7. Valentine

    Southwestern-Sonoran

A churro waffle with a cult following and a soft pretzel served with butter blended from guinea hen fat says about everything you need to know about Valentine's priorities. This all-day cafe and restaurant in the Melrose District does wood-fired Sonoran cooking with Arizona ingredients treated like the whole point, not a talking point. The chef is a James Beard semifinalist, and the elote pasta has its own fan club. The vintage furniture store in the back is not a joke.

  8. Rank 8. Reem’s

    Middle Eastern

The mana'eesh come off a dome-shaped saj grill, thin and crisp, topped with za'atar or wrapped around sumac-marinated chicken. Reem's is a counter-service Arab bakery and café in the Mission, bright and casual, with fatayer pastries and mezze rounding out a menu that works equally well for breakfast or lunch. A James Beard nominee and a fixture on the L.A. Times' California restaurant list, it's the kind of neighborhood spot that travels without losing itself.

  9. Rank 9. Casaema

    Mexican Bakery

The horchata cream doughnut sells out early, which tells you everything about the pace of a morning here. Casaema is a daytime cafe in Houston Heights rooted in Mexican foodways, with a pastry case full of conchas and guava-queso empanadas alongside a coffee menu running café de olla lattes and piloncillo chai. The chilaquiles are built on housemade chips with brisket. A James Beard nominee for Best New Restaurant, and a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  10. Barista Del Barrio is a counter-service Mexican spot on Grande Avenue where the burritos get pressed on the grill until they could pass for paninis, then arrive two to an order. The house chorizo runs heavy on red chile and sheds orange oil down your wrists, so grab extra napkins. The chef was a James Beard Semifinalist for Best Chef: Southwest, which the paper-towel-and-cup-of-coffee setting politely ignores.

  11. Rank 11. Mott 32

    Cantonese

The abacus-inspired light fixtures alone could convince you this is a design hotel lobby, but Mott 32 is a fine dining room doing serious contemporary Chinese food inside The Palazzo. The menu pulls from Cantonese and Sichuanese traditions, and the applewood-roasted Peking duck has a following of its own. The dim sum spreads run all-you-can-eat without feeling like a cafeteria, which is a harder trick than it sounds.

  12. Dangling greenery and cozy booths set the mood at this Cuban diner in Coconut Grove, where the kitchen opens early, closes late, and never seems to slow down. Chef Michael Beltran runs the room with something close to organized chaos, and the menu swings from oxtail ajiaco to towering sandwiches on fluffy Cuban bread. The guava and cream cheese pastelitos alone tend to decide the next visit before you've finished this one. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  13. Pandan waffles and fish sauce bacon on the same menu sounds like a dare, but this counter-service Vietnamese brunch spot on Alberta Street pulls it off without a second thought. Rice bowls, breakfast burritos, and rotating pastries like matcha cinnamon rolls round out a menu that treats Vietnamese American cooking as brunch's natural home. The Vietnamese iced egg coffee reads as dessert and caffeine simultaneously, which covers two needs at once.

  14. Rank 14. Plow

    American

The lemon-ricotta silver dollar pancakes here have a following that generates a line down the block most weekend mornings, which tells you everything about what kind of brunch spot Plow is. It's a casual, easygoing neighborhood place in Potrero Hill with a tight, unfussy menu built around a few things done carefully. The combination plate covers all the bases at once: crispy potatoes, eggs, meat, and those pancakes, with lemon curd on the side if you want to commit.

  15. A Strip diner that has been waving off the casino buffets for decades, with fake trees, flamingo lamps, and enough neon to make the omelets feel like a decision. Out back, the lounge has sunken booths, water features, and scorpion bowls, a James Beard America's Classics winner that somehow still runs all night. Hungover tourists and bikers split plates of marinara-soaked eggs, and no one finds this strange.

  16. Rank 16. Hugo's

    Mexican

Chef Hugo Ortega's flagship is a dressy, sit-down Mexican restaurant on Westheimer that's been the city's go-to for regional cooking for what feels like forever. Brunch pulls a crowd on both days, Saturday à la carte and Sunday buffet with live music. Dinner runs deeper, with dishes like cabrito roasted and pulled from the bone. 18. A no-frills Mexican spot on Santa Fe Drive where the green chile-smothered burrito has its own spot on Eater's list of Denver's most iconic dishes. Denver takes breakfast burritos seriously enough to hold an official holiday for them, and this counter has been feeding the faithful forever. Come for the chile-relleno burrito, stay for the flautas and enchiladas, and when they ask about smothering, say yes. Cash-friendly prices, no dress code beyond pants.

  19. Past the vintage movie posters and through the double doors is an interior courtyard with a back wall that doubles as a 35mm projection screen, metal drive-in speakers lining the walls. 20. The broad patio sweeps out from a small turquoise-trimmed adobe inn with the Camelback range as a backdrop, which is doing a lot of work before the food even arrives. Lon's is a white-tablecloth Southwestern restaurant in Paradise Valley, seasonal and quietly inventive, with weekend brunch drawing the kind of crowd that lingers over customizable margaritas and monkey bread loaded with caramel and cream. The bar is serious, the mountain views are free.

  21. Bright-painted shipping containers, string lights, heat lamps, and a chalk-scrawled menu on the door: Tacos Oscar is a taco shop that treats the format as a suggestion. About half the menu goes vegetarian, leaning hard into California produce, and the rotating selection means whatever you order this visit may be gone the next. Weekend brunch pulls its own crowd. The Michelin Bib Gourmand and a spot on the L.A. Times' best California restaurants list give you a sense of where things stand.

  22. The corrugated metal-and-wood façade on Mott Street is hard to miss, and the inside delivers: a Thai-accented diner with rattan screens, woven bamboo, and counter seats worn smooth by regulars. Ann Redding and Matt Danzer run the kitchen, and Thai tea French toast is available all day because breakfast should not have a curfew. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the New York Times puts it at number 52 on its NYC list.

  23. A wood-fired brick oven anchors this sprawling bakery and cafe in the Mission, where the bread alone draws a line out the door most mornings. The Scandinavian-influenced dining room is airy enough that waiting feels less painful than it sounds. Coffee beans are roasted in-house, pastries lean contemporary, and the sourdough loaves are the kind people carry home on planes. Go for breakfast or lunch and plan to leave with a bag of something.

  24. A bare-bones counter-service tortilleria in South Phoenix, the kind of place where the building has never once tried to impress you. The flour tortillas are the draw, soft but sturdy with a flaky edge, wrapped around machaca, eggs, and potatoes for under ten dollars. The move is dumping the smooth tomato salsa inside the burrito rather than treating it like a dip, which the regulars figured out decades ago.

  26. The foie gras Monte Cristo at brunch should tell you where this is headed. Obélix is a white-tablecloth French bistro in River North where duck, foie gras, and pâté en croûte run through a menu of hearty classics, all made in-house. The sun-drenched dining room fills with seafood platters and bottles of wine at a pace that suggests nobody here came to be sensible. Save room: the pastries alone make a case for staying through dessert.

  27. Vintage mirrors, cherry wood, and brass gas chandeliers give this Downtown Brooklyn steakhouse an amber glow that makes every Tuesday feel like an occasion. The kitchen draws on the legacy of Edna Lewis, who ran it in the late eighties, so fried chicken and crab cakes share the menu with dry-aged prime beef. Dessert gets taken seriously, which a baked Alaska deserves. It has a spot on the World's Best Steak Restaurants list.

  28. Rank 28. Maple & Ash

    Steakhouse

A wood-fired hearth anchors this Gold Coast steakhouse, casting the kind of light that makes everyone look like they have somewhere more important to be later. Maple & Ash leans hard into the party-steakhouse genre, with deep leather couches, clubby music, and a photo booth tucked somewhere in the multilevel room. Dry-aged cuts come in generous portions, and the seafood menu holds its own. The bar is a Top 10 U.S. Nominee at the Spirited Awards.

  29. Rank 29. Bouchon

    Classic French

Blue velvet banquettes, wood-paneled columns, and vintage frescoes sit just off a casino floor that couldn't be further from Paris, which is exactly the joke Thomas Keller seems happy to lean into. Bouchon is a classic French brasserie where the staff wear bow ties and the cooking runs to escargots and crème brûlée done with care. The room transports; the slot machines do not.

  30. There's a piano near the door, and on weekends kids actually play it while their families work through lazy breakfasts nearby. Cocina Consuelo is a supper club in Harlem built from a pandemic-era Mexican pop-up, and the home-cooking warmth masks some real kitchen ambition: masa pancakes from heirloom corn, birria over bone marrow. The New York Times named it one of the city's best new restaurants in 2025, and also called out the masa pancake among the top dishes of 2024.

  31. Bonfire Burritos is a counter-service burrito shop in Golden, the kind of place where you order at the register and eat it out of foil, probably in your car. It has a reputation for generous, meat-forward breakfast burritos, with a house specialty that stacks eggs, hash browns, and three different pork products. It has also made a few Denver and national breakfast burrito lists, which is how the pineapple arguments started.

  32. 1228 Main is a daytime bakery and cafe in the Arts District where the pastry case gets the best light in the building. The laminated stuff is the draw, from lemon cruffins to crème brûlée croissants, and most people could call it breakfast with just a cappuccino. There's also a croissant sandwich with gruyère, avocado, and jalapeño aioli. It's part of the Wolfgang Puck group, which explains the discipline.

  33. This is a casual taco and breakfast spot in a South Durango strip-mall unit where the kitchen nixtamalizes its own heirloom corn, so the tortillas arrive with a pedigree most tortillas would find embarrassing. Chilaquiles, squash-filled tetelas, and fish tacos fill the minimalist room, along with aguas frescas and a horchata matcha. The chef was a 2025 James Beard Best Chef: Southwest semifinalist, and the Strip tourists are mostly elsewhere.

  34. Honey Salt is a bright, farmhouse-style Summerlin restaurant where brunch involves bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas, plus a mocktail list so earnest it includes a green juice that makes Pilates feel plausible. Monkey bread arrives for the table, sticky and iced, and disappears in a way that suggests nobody read the portion sizes. Dress is nice-casual, the kind where the linen shirt is doing real work.

  35. Rank 36. Abacá

    Filipino

Pork belly adobo with pineapple is the kind of dish that explains what this Filipino restaurant inside the Kimpton Alton Hotel is trying to do, which is honor traditional flavors and then quietly push past them. The kitchen came up through a pop-up circuit, and the ambition carried over. The family-style "paubaya" option hands the whole meal to the chef, a move that tends to reward the trusting. The New York Times put it on their restaurant list in 2022.

  36. A mint-green Thai brunch cafe in Berkeley where the food leans toward Chiang Mai, not the usual pad thai circuit. The kitchen draws from northern Thailand and neighboring Laos, so flavors run sour and spicy rather than sweet. The New York Times called out the khanom krok specifically, and the Chronicle put it among the Bay Area's top 100 restaurants. The room is small and greenhouse-warm, the kind of place where nobody's trying to impress you.

  37. Rank 38. Aziza

    Moroccan

A colorful bar anchors the pale, airy room on Geary, where Mourad Lahlou's Moroccan-California restaurant has been back and quietly owning the Richmond for a few years now. The menu folds California ingredients into North African tradition, and the basteeya, golden phyllo packed with chicken and spiced almonds, has made the trip back too. Service runs warm and knowing. The New York Times named it among the top restaurants in San Francisco.

  38. Slow-roasted cochinita pibil is the anchor here, available as a plate with rice and beans or folded into tacos at this Mexican cafe and market in Houston's East End. Weekend brunch draws a crowd for chilaquiles and a loaded breakfast platter, while the daily agua frescas change with whatever fruit is in season. The chef behind it is a two-time James Beard semifinalist. Before you leave, the market sells frozen tamales and her cookbook.

  39. Bardot is a Michael Mina brasserie tucked inside Aria, a windowless black-and-white room where it's always a flattering 8 p.m. and fresh flowers cover every surface. 40. Naan as a pizza base, naan as a butter chicken calzone brushed with ghee, naan as the main argument for coming back: this Logan Square Indian restaurant has built a personality around the flatbread, then filled out the menu with Kerala crab curry and chana chaat to prove it isn't a one-trick kitchen. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, with a James Beard semifinalist nod behind it. The exposed brick and long bar make the room feel loose, which matches the cooking.

  41. Rank 42. PublicUs

    Art-Filled Coffee

  42. This is a retro diner dressed like your great-grandmother's parlor, with lace curtains, antique picture frames, and a name that sounds like it's waiting on a pension. The biscuits are fluffy enough to scoop up chorizo gravy, and the pancakes get a toasty note from malted milk powder. Coffee is a quarter a cup and refilled before you ask, though the cold brew specials are the smarter order. Cheap, cozy, and best before noon.

Bludorn is a New American restaurant and bar where the menu swings wide, from oysters (some Texan) to cioppino to seafood towers. 46. A glassed-in butchery room off the dining floor sets the tone at this polished American restaurant from Hosea Rosenberg, a James Beard semifinalist. Seats at the counter face the open kitchen, and the bar is well-stocked for lingering. The charcuterie comes from in-house, the pasta is inventive, and the donuts have a way of becoming the whole point of the meal.

  47. Specials scrawled on brown paper rolls and a pastry case worth a long look set the tone at this low-key bakery and brunch cafe on McDowell Road. The kitchen leans on local ingredients, and the menu changes with what's good, so regulars learn to check the case before committing. Patio seating in the Phoenix sunshine makes the wait easier. Easy to miss from the street, which keeps it mercifully manageable on a weekend morning.

  48. Rank 49. Odell's Bagel

    Kaiseki Japanese

By day, a bagel shop where the hand-rolled, kettle-boiled rings get topped with things like hamachi, fresh wasabi, and shiso. By night, the Counter flips to a hyperseasonal kaiseki tasting menu, the kind of multicourse journey that shifts entirely with what's good that week. The chef trained in Japan under serious mentors, and it shows. A James Beard semifinalist in 2026, it's also landed on Eater's best Denver restaurants list.

  49. Rank 50. Spago

    Cantonese

Spago is a business-casual fine-dining room at Bellagio, and its patio has a front-row view of the fountains, which is why you'll be humming Sinatra whether you meant to or not. The menu sits between luxurious and familiar: pizzas, pastas, and a thick cheeseburger with charred onions. The chinois chicken salad has been on since the early eighties, the culinary equivalent of a band that still plays the hits.

  52. Lou's is a cheap, cozy Las Vegas diner done in full small-town cosplay, right down to the porcelain chickens and sheet metal signs reminding you that coffee helps. Your table gets a free sampler of housemade jams on butter crackers before you've ordered anything. The Belgian waffle shows up under hot strawberry sauce and a mountain of whipped cream. Weekday breakfast is calm, while weekends belong to the regulars.

  53. Il Canto is a takeout counter in the Financial District, a Mediterranean spot best known for a breakfast burrito that has a lot of cheese going on. Scrambled eggs and creamy chipotle aioli come wrapped around it, and for a couple extra dollars you can add sausage, bacon, shrimp, potatoes, or beans. It's served all day, so the suits in line at noon don't have to pretend they're there for the Mediterranean part.

  54. Mama's Luncheonette is a daytime takeout window in Cow Hollow that has built a following on things wrapped in foil. The breakfast burrito comes stuffed with smashed tater tots, soft scrambled eggs, avocado, and cheddar, and the thick-sliced house brisket is an add-on you'll want to say yes to. The salsa arrives in a small cup, so ask for extra. There's also a chicken caesar wrap, because lettuce deserves a tortilla too.

  55. Rank 56. JL Patisserie

    French Bakery

Kouign-amann and cruffins sharing a case with proper baguettes and macarons sets the tone fast at this French patisserie. The laminated dough is serious, the espresso keeps things moving, and the whole operation closes by two, so the morning crowd treats it with the urgency the pastries deserve. A James Beard Outstanding Bakery semifinalist, JL Patisserie is what happens when French technique finds a permanent home in the desert.

  56. Toca Madera is a Mexican steakhouse that spends its nights thumping and its mornings dim, candlelit, and forgiving of whatever you did last night. The brunch tower arrives in three tiers and feeds a small committee, and the tres leches French toast goes soft and custardy under the cinnamon cream. Nobody will stop you from ordering a wagyu steak next to your bloody mary, since the dinner menu stays open all day.

  57. Rank 58. Odie B's

Tequila-spiked Gatorade on the patio is a real menu choice, and somehow it makes complete sense once you're here. Odie B's is a boisterous Mexican-leaning coffee shop and sandwich counter in Sunnyside where the morning bleeds into afternoon without anyone particularly minding. Focaccia sandwiches, griddled banana bread, and spiced bloody marys keep the regulars cycling back. A second location sits in RiNo for when you're on the wrong side of town.

  58. Rank 59. The Bindery

    Eclectic Café

A smoked rabbit and pecan pie with sharp cheddar and mustard gelato will tell you everything you need to know about this LoHi all-day cafe. The chef behind it has cooked her way through Italy, Israel, and Mexico, and the menu shows every mile, running from posole verde at lunch to butterflied branzino at dinner without ever feeling scattered. Come morning for the bakery case, stay because the room earns it.

  59. Pandan piña coladas and crackling pork belly set the tone at this contemporary Filipino restaurant in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood, where aquatic blue tiles and trailing vines give the room a loose, coastal ease. The menu swings between dinner and weekend brunch, and both hold up well. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, it draws a crowd happy to wait at the bar, cocktail in hand, for a table that's worth the patience.

  60. BBAD is a daytime counter in Pasadena that stands for Breakfast Burritos All Day, and it commits to the bit with a menu of just four burritos. The tortillas are wrapped tight enough to hold a full breakfast plate, soft eggs, crispy potato that can pass for bacon, and slow-roasted pork with a tart tomatillo salsa on the side. The Infatuation put the chile verde burrito on its list of the best breakfast burritos in America.

  61. Rank 61. Cafe Los Feliz

    Armenian Bakery

Cafe Los Feliz is a neighborhood bakery and cafe on Hillhurst, where the line for the soujuk breakfast burrito is a cross-section of Los Angeles. Soujuk is a spicy, dry-cured Armenian sausage, and it arrives with salsa and chipotle aioli in case the kick wasn't loud enough. Locals and the occasional TV face queue up in the same sunglasses, which in this city counts as an equalizer. It's counter service, so wear whatever you slept in.

  62. Golden Pride is a counter-service New Mexican spot on Central Avenue where locals recite their order by number, and the number is usually 9. That's egg, cheddar, hashbrown and bacon in a flour tortilla, with real Hatch green chile doing the heavy lifting. It's about as cheap as breakfast gets in Albuquerque, and The Infatuation ranks that burrito ninth on its national list. Plan on eating it fast, since the tortilla peaks in minutes.

  63. Isaac's Cafe is a no-frills Mexican breakfast counter in Wilmington, across the street from the longshoreman dispatch hall, which explains why its signature burrito is named after the place and sized for people who move freight for a living. It's stuffed with rice, beans, eggs, bacon, and enough avocado to raise questions at customs. The Infatuation put it on its list of America's best breakfast burritos.

  64. Kono's is a beachside breakfast counter on Garnet Avenue where the line forms by 7am and the kitchen doesn't close until 3. It's mostly surfers who've been up for hours and tourists who've read the same lists you have. The burritos come in five sizes, and The Infatuation ranked the #1 the top breakfast burrito in America, which is also the smallest, so ordering up is a choice, not a necessity.

  65. La Victoria is a casual Dallas Mexican spot on Haskell Avenue where the main event is a griddled 10-inch breakfast burrito, wrapped in a chewy tortilla and sturdy enough to survive the walk back to your car. People order the Don's Delight with eggs, bacon, and avocado, and add peanuts, a move that sounds like a typo until the first bite. The Infatuation put it on its list of the best breakfast burritos in America.

  66. Rank 61. St. Coffee

    Cajun & Creole Café

St. Coffee is a neighborhood coffee shop on St. Claude Avenue, a mile or so downriver from the Quarter, where the breakfast burrito comes stuffed with boudin, because this is New Orleans and the tortilla has to pay local taxes. It's counter service, pastries and espresso, the sort of place where you order in a hoodie and nobody asks questions. The Infatuation put the burrito on its national breakfast burrito list.

  67. Two Goose is a counter-service barbecue market on North Lamar that understands Austin's two great loves, brisket and breakfast tacos, and quietly introduces them in burrito form. The Big Honkin' Burrito packs soft eggs, potatoes, cheese, and falling-apart brisket into a tortilla roughly the size of a throw pillow, with a cup of spicy Sunrise sauce on the side. Come hungry, and plan on a nap.

  68. Rank 69. JL Patisserie

    French Bakery

The laminated dough at this French patisserie takes the kind of patience most kitchens quietly skip. Croissants, kouign-amann, pain au chocolat, and thick slices of quiche fill the cases, alongside macarons and fresh-baked loaves worth tucking under your arm on the way out. Seasonally flavored coffees keep the morning crowd happy while they deliberate. A James Beard Outstanding Bakery semifinalist, this uptown Phoenix spot makes a convincing case for the detour.

  69. La Fontaine is a lavish French restaurant that treats brunch as something other than an excuse for bottomless mimosas. The pain perdu comes with salted butter and warm caramel, the souffle pancakes get thyme whipped cream instead of syrup, and the dining room glows in soft whites and tans like a very expensive beach house. It's open Thursday through Monday, so plan around that, and wear something nicer than gym shorts.

  70. Rank 71. Pondicheri

    Modern Indian

A fermented chickpea crepe with green pea masala sits next to French toast on the same menu, which tells you most of what you need to know about Pondicheri. It's a modern Indian restaurant and all-day breakfast spot with a bakery upstairs called the Bake Lab, where the chili chocolate chip cookie has its own devoted following. The patio was made for lingering over masala chai, and the thali format rewards anyone who can't commit to one thing.

  71. A Bridgeport pub that takes the British meat pie seriously enough to earn a Michelin Bib Gourmand, without a single tea cozy in sight. The room runs marble tables and handmade pottery, and the crowd arrives for flaky, butter-crusted pies filled with things like steak and ale alongside minty peas and mash. The menu wanders into rarebit mac and cheese and a pub burger that pulls its weight. Fish and chips land on Fridays.

  72. This is the Vegas branch of a New York all-day cafe, a sunny, Tiffany-blue dining room beside the Bellagio's botanical gardens where bagels arrive stacked in three-tier towers. It's fancy for a place that mostly sells eggs and fish salad, so the Strip's fully rested and the freshly regretful sit side by side over grapefruit cocktails. Grab a sticky bun from the cart up front on your way out.

  73. This is a deli at Circa where the sandwiches arrive big enough to share, and the fluorescent lights stay on around the clock. That suits the clientele, a mix of tourists who haven't been to bed yet and people who woke up wanting a reuben at breakfast. Pancakes and shakshuka run until 2pm, and the matzo ball soup shows up whenever your night is ending. Ordering online spares you the lighting.

  77. Mon Ami Gabi is a Parisian-style bistro on the Strip where the patio faces the Bellagio Fountains and the sidewalk performs for free, with tourists and buskers wandering past your eggs Benedict. Flip flops are fine at brunch, a nicer outfit suits steak frites at dinner, and the crowd runs from newlyweds to influencers photographing their baguette. Book ahead, since everyone else read the same article.

  78. Rank 80. El Mil Amores

    Mexico City

Chilaquiles made with dark, thick mole rather than salsa are the reason El Mil Amores draws a line on weekend mornings in the Mission. It's a brunch spot doing Mexico City-style cooking, the kind of place where the tortilla chips stay crunchy long enough to matter and the mole carries real bitterness alongside the heat. The San Francisco Chronicle named it one of the Bay Area's best brunch restaurants, which the regulars already knew.

  81. An Art Deco chophouse and raw bar in downtown Silver Spring, J. Hollinger's splits its loyalties between land and sea: prime steaks anchor the menu, but the kitchen lets you pile on butter-poached crab or fried oysters if you're feeling ambitious. The duck confit and homemade ricotta ravioli give non-carnivores a reason to show up too. Happy hour runs most of the week, and the dollar oysters keep things from getting too serious.

  82. Rank 84. SugarJam

    Southern

Challah soaked in Grand Marnier, griddled until the sugar crust cracks like a crème brûlée top, is the thing people come back for at this Southern brunch spot in Scottsdale. Catfish and grits, chicken and waffles, and a waffle so light it barely holds its own weight round out a menu that swings comfortably between sweet and savory. Weekends bring a DJ and mimosas on every table; weekdays are quieter and the wait is shorter.

  83. Antique stained glass windows filter whatever light San Francisco's summer fog is willing to spare, and the room is cheerful anyway. Early to Rise is a brunch spot in NoPa where the daily doughnut arrives warm while you wait, the French toast comes loaded with seasonal fruit and a few things creamy and crunchy, and the ambrosia salad quietly signals the chef's Southern roots. The owner does his own table rounds, coffee pot in hand, which keeps things easy.

  84. Rank 87. Gritz Café

    Southern

Gritz Café is a small Southern breakfast spot a short drive off the Strip, where the portions are built for people who plan to nap afterward. The chicken and waffles lead the menu, but the cheesy jalapeño grits and hotlink omelets have their defenders. The dining room is tiny, so a wait is normal, though the servers move fast. The sweet potato pie travels well enough to survive airport security.

  85. Rank 87. Kassi Beach House

    Coastal Italian

Kassi Beach House is a coastal Italian restaurant dressed up as an upscale beach shack, complete with a DJ spinning pop remixes at brunch and a steady supply of people photographing their eggs. The soft scrambled eggs with salsa verde are the quiet standout, and there's pasta for anyone who wants lunch to commit. Bottomless rosé on a poolside daybed is the move if you're prepared to treat Saturday as a project.

  86. Bottiglia is a Tuscan enoteca out in Henderson whose weekend brunch doubles as a dress-code experiment, with a sunny dining room full of groups in their flashiest outfits working through bottomless mimosas and Aperol spritzes. A shellfish tower shares the table with avocado toast, and dessert is a chocolate stiletto made of ladyfingers and mascarpone, which is a sentence you only get to say at brunch.

  87. Rank 91. Cafe Sabarsky

    Austrian Bakery

Inside the Neue Galerie on Museum Mile, this Viennese kaffeehaus occupies a dark-paneled room upholstered in Otto Wagner fabric, which sets the tone quickly. The cafe serves schnitzel and goulash, but the cakes are the real argument for coming: Sachertorte, Linzer torte, and a chocolate mousse number with far more going on than the name suggests. The crowd tends toward the museum-going and the unhurried, which fits the pace of the place perfectly.

  88. Servers roam the floor with hot coffee and donut holes before you've even ordered, which tells you everything about what kind of diner Lou Mitchell's is. Booths, counter stools, eggs cooked every way imaginable, and an open-faced Reuben on homemade rye that has anchored many a morning near Union Station. An old-school Chicago institution that has never once tried to be anything else.

  89. A converted gas station in the Melrose District that starts pulling shots at six in the morning, Copper Star is a coffee shop where the bagels are made in-house and take the menu seriously. Jalapeño cheddar, sun-dried tomato, blueberry, all built into breakfast sandwiches that come out hot. Drive-thru, shaded patio, eclectic interior, the whole spectrum of Phoenix mornings covered.

  90. A coffee shop and cocktail bar where the menu refuses to pick a lane, and that's the whole point. Weekend brunch runs from oysters with aguachile granita to chilaquiles and lobster rolls, while the drinks column blurs the line with carajillos and cold-brew shakерatos. The Caesar cups, eaten by hand, are a specific kind of commitment. A Rex Hospitality project in the Sawyer Yards neighborhood.

  91. This is a casino-resort buffet dressed for a wedding, with tiered cakes, whole wheels of cheese, and caviar on blinis next to the miniature pancakes. Sixteen cooking stations mean the crepes and eggs Benedict arrive made to order, and reserving the late-morning slot lets brunch slide into the crab-leg dinner shift. Expect a line, a three-figure bill with the extras, and a plate strategy.

  92. Rank 96. Cafe Yaya

    Levantine Café

Cafe Yaya is an all-day neighborhood cafe in Lincoln Park from the team behind Galit, and it opens early enough to catch the weekday breakfast crowd. The menu blends Levantine, French, and Southern ideas, which sounds like a lot until you meet the smoked lamb bacon in a BLT. Order at the counter, stay for the lemon pound cake, and expect a casual, low-key morning that stays well under fine-dining money. Eater has it on its Chicago breakfast list.

  95. Rank 98. the breakfast klub

    Cajun & Creole

The line outside this Houston breakfast and brunch spot is so reliable that they've worked out a whole system: heaters in winter, water in summer, and occasionally a bouncy castle, which is a sentence you don't type about many restaurants. Southern and Creole comfort food is the draw, wings and waffles being the dish everyone mentions first, with catfish and grits not far behind. Show up when the doors open or plan around the wait.

  96. Rank 100. Otro Cafe

    Central Mexican Café

Cajeta pancakes topped with banana, crème fraîche, caramel, and candied peanuts are doing a lot of the heavy lifting at this colorful, homey Mexico City-style brunch spot in uptown Phoenix. The chef behind Gallo Blanco brings the same seriousness to chilaquiles and thick, crackling papas fritas. Weekend waits get real, so the attached coffee bar next door exists to make the line bearable. The salsas are not messing around.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
