Rank 581. J.G. Melon
American
The green-and-white checked tablecloths have been here so long they're practically load-bearing. JG Melon is an old-school Upper East Side burger joint where the dark wood bar stays busy, the staff is genuinely cheerful, and the cheeseburger is the reason The Infatuation named it one of New York's defining dishes. Come early or expect a wait, which at this point is just part of the ritual.

A hotel in Midtown that leans hard into the Irish pub aesthetic, Merrion Row sits one block from Times Square, which is either a selling point or a warning depending on your relationship with costumed characters. The rooms take their cues from Dublin's warmer traditions, which makes the whole thing feel less like a theme and more like an antidote. The elevator does the heavy lifting between the city outside and the calm within.

Rank 581. Nami Nori
Sushi
Temaki, or hand rolls, are the whole point here, served open-style and passed directly from the crew to the counter while the nori is still crisp. The room is all blonde wood and gray-blue cushions, casual and unhurried in a way that West Village sushi rarely bothers to be. The plant-based options get the same care as the fish. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, for whatever that tells you about the price-to-pleasure math.

Rank 581. Pinch Chinese
Chinese
The soup dumplings in the crab version are reason enough to find a table at this polished SoHo Chinese restaurant, where the room runs lanterns and a front bar and the kitchen turns out food that feels more Flushing than fashionable. The scallion pancake martini is exactly the kind of thing you order to prove you've read the menu. The Michelin Guide has given it a Bib Gourmand, and the wine list is notably more considered than you'd expect.

John Cage's 4'33" is a listed design inspiration, which tells you most of what you need to know about this minimalist hotel on the Bowery. Rooms are bento-box small but composed with care, and the bigger configurations fit a whole touring band. A rooftop bar on the 11th floor and a garden-patio restaurant downstairs mean you don't have to wander far, though the Lower East Side makes wandering very easy.

Rank 581. Tolo
Chinese
A serious wine list paired with Chinese cooking in Chinatown, right across from Seward Park. Tolo is a compact wine bar where the chef brings real polish to familiar dishes, the kind of place where the small tables fill up fast and nobody seems to mind. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand. Zalto glasses and a long, considered pour list signal that the wine half of the equation is no afterthought.

A hotel in NoMad that resisted the obvious mid-century modern temptation and landed somewhere more current: hardwood floors, live plants, barn-style room dividers, and contemporary art that earns its wall space. The Brooklyn Bridge is a short walk east, and the cobblestone streets outside look much as they did two centuries ago. This boutique hotel occupies a landmarked red-brick building that fits the Seaport District's Federal streetscape so naturally it's easy to assume it's always been there. Sixty-six rooms are spacious and calm, with marble bathrooms; upper-floor terraces face Peck Slip. The Michelin Guide has it among its selected hotels.

Modern Korean
Burrata with rice cakes and gochujang-marinated chicken is either a terrible idea or a very good one, and this Lower East Side gastropub has decided it's the latter. The menu is rooted in Korean flavors and then takes a hard left into stranger, more interesting territory, with everything designed to be shared. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks for a place this loose-limbed and fun.

The Meyer Davis interiors lean on wood, leather, marble, and tile in a way that feels more like a design hotel than a Garment District crash pad. The Michelin Guide has it among its selected hotels.

Family recipes are the spine of the menu here, though Chef Max Wittawat dresses them up considerably. Bangkok Supper Club is a chic contemporary Thai restaurant in the West Village where the cocktail program pulls as much attention as the food, and the room has the candles-and-low-lighting energy to match. The Michelin Guide has it selected. Dishes read simple on paper and then arrive full of dramatic contrasts, which is the whole point.

Southern Fusion Korean
A ten-dish menu split between Southern comfort and Korean flavors sounds like a dare, but the chef at this snug Bleecker Street tapas spot pulls it off without breaking a sweat. Galbi jus over gruyere grits, harissa-glazed ribs, banana pudding with misugaru, it's a small room and the tables are close enough that your neighbors will probably want to order the same things. Korean
Korean fried chicken shop on a busy Upper West Side corner, narrow and deep with an open kitchen you can watch from pretty much every table. The chicken comes out amber and lacquered in sticky black pepper soy, the kind that makes you rethink every other version you've had. The fried rice, loaded with Chinese sausage, kimchi, and a runny egg on top, is its own argument for staying for seconds.

Middle Eastern
A corner restaurant on Broadway where the teal-washed dining room and floor-to-ceiling windows make the whole place feel like an exhale. The long counter fills up with regulars who clearly know their way around a Middle Eastern menu, and the off-center bar is quietly good for eating solo. Fresh-baked breads anchor the meal, and the kitchen's way with date syrup and tahini shows a chef who understands how sweetness and richness need each other.

Cantonese
Dim sum made to order rather than wheeled around on carts sets this Chinatown shop apart from its neighbors. The photo menu keeps things moving, which helps on weekends when the room is full and tables are shared with strangers as a matter of course. Rice rolls, pan-fried pork dumplings, and soup dumplings all come out fresh. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the portions are generous enough that the slightly higher prices barely register.

You leave your shoes at the door, sink onto a cushion at a low table, and settle into what feels less like dinner and more like a scheduled exhale. HanGawi is an upscale, vegetarian-only Korean restaurant where the meditative music and temple artifacts are not ironic. A 22-seat counter tucked inside Gui Steakhouse, up an elevator and easy to walk past without knowing. Sungchul Shim runs a multicourse tasting menu where Korean flavors meet French technique, and the two Michelin stars suggest the kitchen takes that fusion seriously. Chefs work at the center of the room in full view, which keeps everyone facing the same direction for once. The white soy custard with Osetra caviar has developed a following of its own.

Modern Indian
A salmon-pink quartz bar runs the full length of the front room before giving way to a moodier dining space where everything arrives family-style, whether you planned it that way or not. This modern Indian restaurant on Avenue A earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by actually delivering on the spice, depth, and nuance that the genre usually only promises. The lamb shank biryani is portioned for a small crowd, which is the correct way to order it.

Sushi
The 16-seat counter in Tribeca runs loud for an omakase room, which is part of the point. The team behind ITO has no patience for hushed reverence: fish flown in from Tokyo and Fukuoka anchors a nigiri progression with deep cuts and assertive saucing, and the appetizers and desserts pull their weight too. Whiskey and sake flow, the room skews young, and everyone booked their next reservation before the first one ended.

Roast Peking duck arrives on a silver tray with thin pancakes, which sets the tone for what Jiang Nan is doing: upscale Chinese dining that roams the whole country rather than planting a flag in one region. Rank 632. Kanoyama
Sushi
The omakase counter tucked inside Kanoyama runs on select days only, so planning ahead is part of the deal. It's the serious, pricey sushi experience the East Village rarely advertises: a small counter, a chef calling the shots, and fish flown in with obvious intention. The sake list is deep enough that regulars argue about it, and you're handed an assortment of cups to choose from, which is a nicer problem than most restaurants give you.

A crunchy Burmese pancake stuffed with vegetables and sesame seeds is the right way to start at this tiny East Village restaurant, where a family team runs the room with the kind of warmth that makes a ten-table spot feel like the whole point of the neighborhood. Sichuan
The dry pot at this East Village Sichuan spot lets you build your own bowl from scratch, choosing proteins, vegetables, and heat level from a list long enough to be mildly paralyzing. The menu is short and focused, leaning into good pasta and a cocktail list that includes a negroni sbagliato bianco, which sounds made up but isn't.

Bagels arrive stacked on wooden dowels here, which tells you most of what you need to know about the vibe. This is Major Food Group's theatrical, not-quite-kosher take on a Jewish appetizing shop in Soho, where seed-crusted bagels anchor spreads of lox, sable, and sturgeon, and there's a full caviar section for when a schmear feels insufficiently dramatic. Budget accordingly; this crowd did not come to save money.

Pizzeria
A few steps from Madison Square Park, this pizza shop has made a name for itself with a well-fermented dough that stays light enough to eat without regret. The round NY-style pies lean into garlic, while the square pepperoni comes out properly leavened and crisp underneath. The XXL mozzarella stick, served with marinara, is the kind of starter that settles the question of whether to order it immediately. 50 Top Pizza USA ranked it thirteenth in the country.

Suma katsuo, a buttery fish rarely seen outside Japan, gets cold-smoked over cherry wood and finished with onion sauce, sesame, and nori at this intimate omakase counter on Prince Street. The New York Times named that sashimi course one of the top dishes of 2024. Chef Ben Chen's approach is precise without being fussy, and the room rewards the kind of guest who came to pay attention rather than to be seen.

A water taxi from Pier 25 drops you on Governors Island, a city park that happens to sit between Brooklyn and the Statue of Liberty, where Collective operates a glamping resort that makes the Catskills seem like a lot of driving. Tents come with air conditioning, Frette robes, and en suite bathrooms, and the top cabin adds a soaking tub aimed at the Statue of Liberty. Cocktails on the Sunset Terrace, morning buffet, yoga, oyster shucking classes: summer camp, if camp had gone upmarket.
