  1. Rank 1. Ru Yuan

    Zhejiang

Ru Yuan sits inside the Hangzhou Botanical Garden, its floor-to-ceiling windows pulling the trees and stillness directly into the dining room. This is refined Zhejiang tasting-menu territory, the kind where dim lighting and low seating signal that the food is doing the talking. The chef's project is revival, not reinvention, bringing patience to heritage recipes that shortcuts had flattened elsewhere. Two Michelin stars and a spot on Asia's 50 Best at number ten.

  2. A fine dining room inside a resort hotel, set within a bamboo grove and built around the idea that Jiangnan cuisine carries an emotional charge, not just a flavor profile. The kitchen works with seasonal regional ingredients and traditional techniques, nudging them just far enough that the food feels familiar and slightly surprising at once. Thirteen private suites handle the banquet crowd. It holds two Michelin stars.

  3. Rank 3. Yong Fu

    Zhejiang

Wave-shaped crystal chandeliers and glass fish hang from the ceiling, a quiet signal that this is a Ningbo restaurant where the sea does most of the talking. Fish from the East China Sea arrives daily, and the menu leans into the briny, wine-cured flavors the region is known for. The marinated raw mud crab, aged in hua diao wine, is the dish people pre-order before they've even sat down. One Michelin star.

  4. A Michelin-starred room in Wan Chai dedicated to Taizhou cuisine, the cooking tradition from Zhejiang province that the mainland outpost of this same group has turned into a three-star affair in Beijing. The kitchen keeps things deliberate: a short roster of ingredients, seasonal produce, flavours left to speak without much interference. The yellow croaker soup and roast duck are the two dishes regulars tend to circle before they even sit down.

  11. Rank 8. Jin Sha

    Modern Zhejiang

The dining room sits inside the Four Seasons on West Lake, which sets certain expectations, and Jin Sha mostly ignores them in the best way, leaning hard into Zhejiang soul food rather than globe-trotting hotel cuisine. The chef builds a modern Cantonese-adjacent menu around seasonal local ingredients, and what arrives at the table looks architectural but eats like something a grandmother would have strong opinions about. It holds a Michelin star.

  20. Rank 8. Yong Fu (Hongkou)

    Ningbo Zhejiang

Ningbo cooking occupies a specific lane: intensely briny, fermented-forward, and proud of it. This upscale restaurant on the 56th floor of Raffles City The Bund leans into that tradition, anchoring the menu around wild seafood pulled from the East China Sea that morning. The room runs to aubergine walls, linen, and chandeliers, which creates a pleasant contrast with dishes built around deliberately pungent ingredients. It holds a Michelin star.

  29. The dining room runs along the bank of the River Meuse, so every table gets the water. It's a Chinese restaurant focused on Zhejiang cooking, run by the Chen family, and the menu is long in a good way, moving from house-made dim sum through lacquered duck with crispy skin and the pancakes that go with it. Portions are generous, prices are kind, and the Michelin Guide has given it a Bib Gourmand to say so officially.

  77. The Grand Hyatt's flagship dining room sits right on the edge of West Lake, and the kitchen leans into that geography, building its menus around the fish and seafood at the heart of Hangzhou cuisine. It's a formal, elegant space where the cooking is careful and precise, the service polished, and the whole experience reads as a special-occasion destination rather than a casual drop-in.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
