  1. Rank 1. logy

    Japanese-Taiwanese

Tucked into a Neihu alleyway, this two-Michelin-star contemporary Asian restaurant draws a straight line between Taipei and Tokyo: chef Ryogo Tahara trained under Hiroyasu Kawate at Florilège before bringing that same exacting sensibility here. The menu leans into Taiwanese ingredients while pulling techniques from across the continent, landing at No. 22 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants. Dishes arrive with the quiet confidence of people who have nothing left to prove.

  2. Rank 1. Taïrroir

    Contemporary Taiwanese

A copper-ceiling meant to suggest Taiwan's hill country sets the tone before you've seen the menu, which at Taïrroir names its dishes to rhyme with local idioms. The chef spent two decades across Taiwanese and French kitchens, and the tasting menu puts those two traditions in genuine conversation, built around seasonal Taiwanese produce. It holds three Michelin stars, and the service matches that without feeling starched.

  3. Rank 3. Mume

    Contemporary Taiwanese

Fresh herbs and edible flowers land on every plate at this Michelin-starred contemporary European restaurant, which makes the moody, faux-industrial dining room feel like a pleasant joke the kitchen is playing on itself. Seasonal Taiwanese ingredients fold into European technique, and the seafood in particular shows a confident hand with seasoning. Da'an regulars who have stopped reading the menu are probably onto something.

  9. Rank 4. Ming Fu

    Taiwanese

Home-style Taiwanese cooking served in the kind of generous portions that assume you brought people. Ming Fu holds a Michelin star, which surprises no one who has had the stuffed chicken, a whole free-range bird filled with glutinous rice, red dates, and goji berries, then simmered for the better part of a day into a golden, deeply umami broth. The menu also reaches for ingredients like mullet tripe and fresh fish maw that most restaurants don't bother with.

  15. Rank 4. Wok by O'BOND

    Modern French Taiwanese

A small window at the entrance lets you watch the wok station before you're inside, surrounded by dark green velvet and red walls. This Michelin-starred modern French Taiwanese tasting menu restaurant takes Taiwanese and Asian flavors apart and rebuilds them with French technique, with at least one dish carrying proper wok hei. Taiwanese teas and herb-infused cocktails round out a menu that changes every season.

  16. Rank 4. Yu Dao

    Contemporary Taiwanese

Set on a quiet island in Anping, this Michelin-starred contemporary Taiwanese restaurant takes its name from a phrase meaning "giving you an island," which turns out to be a fair description of what arrives at the table. The chef farms some of the produce on site and sources the rest locally, building a set menu around Tainan's communal banquet traditions. The non-alcoholic drink pairing leans into local teas and seasonal fruit in ways that make the wine list seem unadventurous.

  18. Rank 18. Maketto

    Cambodian Taiwanese Coffee Shop

Sneakers mounted on the wall are, in fact, for sale, which tells you everything about the vibe before you've ordered. Erik Bruner-Yang's café and all-day dining room on H Street blends a retail shop with Cambodian and Taiwanese cooking, all meant for the table to share. The caramel fried chicken has been on the menu long enough to qualify as a classic, and the Michelin Bib Gourmand suggests the kitchen isn't coasting on that.

  19. Rank 18. Pig And Tiger

    Taiwanese

A Taiwanese restaurant in Denver's Capitol Hill where jellyfish and pickled mustard stems show up on the menu but somehow feel like comfort food by the time they reach the table. The cocktails lean into it too, with an Old Fashioned built around rose jam and black tea. Eater named it one of Denver's best restaurants, and Westword gave it Best New Restaurant honors.

  20. Rank 20. Pine & Crane

    Taiwanese Café

The clay pot of three-cup Jidori chicken arrives at your table still simmering, which tells you everything about how seriously this casual Taiwanese restaurant takes itself. Exposed brick, concrete floors, and a laid-back South LA vibe don't telegraph the kitchen's precision, but the Michelin Bib Gourmand does. Vegetarian takes on mapo tofu and dumplings hold their own alongside the meat dishes, and the lotus root salad is quietly worth ordering.

  21. Rank 21. Wenwen

    Taiwanese

The tall, narrow wood-framed windows let you see the whole room before you walk in, which is a nice preview of a Taiwanese restaurant that doesn't hide anything. Eric Sze and partner Andy Chuang run a menu that moves between popcorn chicken dusted in a sweet-spicy blend and whole striped bass lacquered in black sugar and yuzu, and the beef noodle soup, built on a 16-hour oxtail broth, has a following of its own.

  27. A big live oak shades the patio, which tells you most of what you need to know about this all-day cafe and cocktail bar on West Fifth. Coffee in the morning, serious drinks by afternoon, and a menu of laid-back dishes that runs from breakfast sandwiches built around crispy hash brown patties to a Taiwanese-style fried chicken sandwich at dinner. The kind of Austin spot that makes parking feel like a personality trait, and means it.

  28. The xiao long bao are made in-house, and you can watch through the glass as the pleating happens at speed. This is the New York outpost of the global dumpling chain, set in a large underground room near Times Square that runs loud and packed most hours of the day. The New York Times gave it a star in 2024, which did nothing to shorten the line. Expect a menu of soup dumplings in various fillings, a youthful crowd, and prices that won't require a moment of hesitation.

  29. Rank 27. Piglet & Co

    Taiwanese

The pork toast, shrimp mousse pressed onto Japanese milk bread, is the detail that explains why this Taiwanese comfort food restaurant filled up fast after opening in the Mission. The chef came up through pop-up days, and that restless, inventive energy carried over into a full room and a menu that swings between numbing mala ribs and a silky tofu pudding. Eater named it one of the best new restaurants in America in 2023.

  30. Rank 30. San Dong Noodle House

    Taiwanese Noodle Shop

San Dong is a Taiwanese noodle house on Bellaire Blvd where the forks, spoons, and bowls are all the to-go kind, and you grab your own containers off a shelf like it's a very small hardware store. The menu is beef noodle soup and pan-fried or steamed dumplings, and a full meal for two comes in under $20. Bring cash, tip the cashier, and don't expect much elbow room.

A noodle shop tucked down a winding lane, with the kind of plastic classroom chairs that suggest someone's grandmother is running things. The egg noodle soup comes in a clear kombu broth, veggie or clam, no fried toppings, no hot pot theatrics, just clean and simple in a way that draws long lunchtime queues. The Michelin Bib Gourmand is its only decoration. Noodle firmness is negotiable, which regulars have strong opinions about.

Doors open at 11:30 and close a few hours later, which tells you everything: this small Taiwanese restaurant in Temple City operates on its own terms, and the lines that form before opening tell you the neighborhood is fine with that. The menu hangs above the cash register, so you read it standing up. Tea arrives in a Styrofoam cup without asking. Expect to be out in twenty minutes, holding a Michelin Bib Gourmand memory.

  57. Rank 31. Eat Joy Food

    Authentic Taiwanese

Tucked into the back of a Rowland Heights strip mall stacked floor-to-ceiling with restaurants, this Taiwanese spot is the kind of place you almost drive past three times before finding. Inside, the warehouse floors and generously spaced tables make it unusually calm for a menu that reads like a small novel, packed with seafood, consommés, and rice dishes. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and regulars tend to already know what they're ordering before they sit down.

A low-key Taiwanese home-cooking spot tucked down an alley, where a renovated old property has been fitted out with a Japanese-style wooden counter framing an open kitchen. The menu is short and the portions are small, the kind of place that quietly earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand without making a fuss about it. Stir-fried eel cooked in house-made goose fat is the dish regulars plan around: rich, bouncy, and sweet-sour enough to demand a bowl of rice alongside.

  92. Fresh local beef arrives daily from Tainan and gets hand-cut in-house before it hits the pot, which tells you what you need to know about where NIU LAO DA's priorities lie. This is a shabu-shabu hotpot spot built on Tainan's beef soup tradition, with a bone-and-fruit broth that runs clean and lightly sweet. The stir-fried beef dishes hold their own too, and a self-service vegetable station keeps things informal. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  93. The large yellow signboard is hard to miss, which is probably the point. This Taiwanese noodle shop in Suyeong-gu built its following around soy-braised beef noodles, served in a deep, savory broth finished with chili oil and mustard-green pickles. The kitchen caps its daily noodle service to keep the broth where it needs to be, so timing matters. Fried pork chops on the side are non-negotiable for regulars. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  94. Rank 31. Open Smile

    Taiwanese

Braised pork is the whole argument here, slow-cooked until it hits that sweet spot between tender and giving, served over rice or noodles at a bright little Taiwanese spot that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The menu wanders into scallion chicken and Sichuan peppercorn oil for variety, and a house chilli sauce is there when you want more heat. It's casual, cheerful, and the kind of lunch that makes the afternoon feel manageable.

  112. Rank 31. Win Son

    Modern Taiwanese

The facade is done up like a corner bodega, but step inside and it's all blonde wood, exposed brick, and a little bar where solo diners settle in without apology. Win Son is a bright, casual Taiwanese spot in Williamsburg that holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the menu takes Taiwan's culinary landscape somewhere fresher than the usual shorthand suggests. Scallion pancakes show up alongside so many dishes that ordering them as a starter is quietly redundant.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
