  2. A bright, airy French restaurant on the quiet back side of Montmartre hill, where the kitchen takes comfort food and dresses it with tweezer-placed garnishes and foams that taste like childhood. Portions run big, which is a pleasant surprise given the plating. It suits dinner with parents or friends who don't mind trading forkfuls across the table. The Michelin Guide lists it as a Selected Restaurant.

  3. Rank 800. Adami

    Italian

A long counter runs the length of this small Italian pasta restaurant near Pigalle, where you can watch the kitchen roll and plate while you eat. The look is stripped-back and modern rather than red-checkered, and the menu leans into sharing. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks: the cooking is sharp and unfussy, with the kind of gnocchi that makes the table go quiet.

  4. Rank 800. Adraba

    Israeli

Fenugreek paste, charcoal-roasted vegetables, marinated chillis, and a tahini situation that anchors the whole table: the menu at this Montmartre restaurant pulls from the Levant and the chef's family roots in equal measure. The room runs warm and a little loud, the kind of place where the cocktail list gets as much attention as the food. A casual spot for sharing plates built around spice and condiment, not restraint.

  5. Rank 800. Ambos

    Bistro

A bistro counter facing the Luxembourg Gardens, where the couple behind the name (it means "both" in Spanish) run an open kitchen that mixes Thai, South American, and European instincts on the same short menu. The chef did a season of Top Chef; his Venezuelan co-chef did Bangkok and London. Together they cook food that feels personal rather than programmatic, in a room that's friendly enough to make you forget you're in the 6th.

  7. Rank 800. Aux 2 K

    Modern French

Roasted pigeon with smoked eel and shallots in a salmis sauce tells you everything about the kitchen's ambitions. This snug modern French bistro in the 9th is the project of two alumni from some of Paris's most demanding kitchens, one on savory, one on pastry, splitting the labor the way it should be done. The Bib Gourmand signals that the cooking punches well above the price, which in this neighborhood stays refreshingly sane.

    The awards

  8. Rank 800. Aux Plumes

    Japanese

A Japanese chef running a small neighborhood bistro in the 14th, changing the menu weekly and sourcing close to home. The cooking is French in spirit but with a sharper eye for contrast, sweet against sour, rich against bright, in combinations you wouldn't have thought to order but end up finishing fast. Lunch draws a crowd that knows to show up, since the price makes the whole thing feel slightly stolen. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand.

  9. Rank 800. Baca'v - Boulogne

    Modern Bistro

A sibling to a Paris address, this modern bistro in Boulogne-Billancourt earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand with the kind of cooking that makes you feel like someone's grandmother grew up in Limousin and went to culinary school. The chef leans into bistro classics, vol-au-vent, pâté en croûte, braised cabbage, done with enough care to feel personal rather than nostalgic. Large picture windows keep it from feeling like a cave, which is more than most bistros manage.

  12. Bloom House takes its name at face value: the 10th arrondissement boutique hotel is carpeted in floral textures, live greenery, and warm organic materials, which lands as a genuine shock if you've just rolled in from Gare du Nord two blocks away. The 91 rooms run compact but eclectic, some with balconies and wide views, and an 18-meter indoor pool anchors the spa. A bar and a poolside Mediterranean kitchen round out the restoration project.

  13. Rank 800. Capsule

    French

The open kitchen at the back of this Left Bank bistro is shaped like a pod, which explains the name and adds a retro-science-fiction touch to the green banquettes and vintage lamps. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for traditional French home cooking: roast chicken, floating island with salted butter caramel, the kind of food that makes you wonder why anyone bothers with anything fancier. A few bar seats up front fill fast with regulars who know the drill.

  14. Rank 800. Classique

    French Wine Bar

  15. Every room at this 143-room Montparnasse boutique hotel comes with murals or framed work by contemporary French artists, because the people behind it also run an art fair and an exhibition space, so of course they do. The common areas lean harder into it, and the Drawing Hall keeps a rotating selection on view. A pool, a small spa, and an all-day restaurant round things out, none of which you'd take for granted in a Paris boutique hotel.

  16. Rank 800. Épopée

    Modern Japanese

A sommelier with a deep attachment to natural wines and a Japanese chef who came up through Clamato and Passage 53 decided to open a neighborhood restaurant together in the 11th, and the results are quietly interesting. The room has corners and crannies that make it feel bigger and more lived-in than it is. The cooking is seasonal and precise, built around micro-farm vegetables and small-boat fish. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand.

  19. Rank 800. IMperfetto

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

A Neapolitan pizza shop on a quiet residential street just outside Paris, where the dough is direct, light, and structured enough to make you forget you're in the suburbs. The menu weaves southern Italian tradition with the odd French suggestion, and the wine list holds its own. Ranked third in Europe by 50 Top Pizza, and 27th in the world. Small room, a few tables outside, and service that actually helps you choose.

A neighborhood bistro in the 14th where the chef, a Perche native, builds the menu around producers from his home region, pork and poultry breeders chief among them. The cooking is quietly confident, the kind that makes a guinea fowl dish or a plate of gnocchi feel like the obvious thing to order. The wine list leans organic and natural. 28. A slate of handwritten "picorages," the chef's word for snacks that are really not small, covers the counter of this buzzy wine bar and bistro in the 9th. The menu moves with the chef's mood, so veal sweetbreads one week, a Normandy rib of beef the next. The wine list keeps growing, which the regulars seem fine with. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the kind of place that earns it without trying to look like it.

  30. Rank 800. Les Parisiens

    Brasserie French

Les Parisiens is a hotel brasserie in Saint-Germain, all velour banquettes and brass-edged mirrors, serving the sole meuniere and veal tartare you'd expect, at prices that suggest the sole had a good agent. It's a safe bet for parents, dates, or anyone you want to impress without scaring. The address is where James Joyce finished Ulysses, which gives literary types something to mention before the millefeuille arrives.

  31. Philippe Starck turned a former parking garage in the 20th into a hotel that feels like it was designed by a mischievous philosopher, which, partly, it was. Bare concrete gets offset by superhero-mask reading lamps and iMac-as-TV setups in rooms zoned as residences rather than hotel stays. You're deep past Père Lachaise, several minutes from the Metro, which concentrates your evenings around the bar and restaurant, both of which hold up.

  32. Rank 800. Mokko

    Modern French

A former music industry guy opened this buzzy little bistro at the foot of Montmartre, which explains something about the room's energy without quite explaining what. 34. Rank 800. Oktobre

    Creative Pan-Asian

A creative restaurant on the Left Bank street where philosophers once argued, Oktobre brings a similar restlessness to the plate. The chef sources obsessively and cooks with a loose, confident hand, pulling in Asian spices and fermented flavors alongside French technique. Cuttlefish pasta, miso beurre blanc, sweetcorn curry: the combinations sound unlikely until they don't. The room is warm and the mood runs lively.

  36. Rank 800. Rosemarie

    Traditional French

The zinc-topped counter and egg mayonnaise on the menu tell you everything before you sit down. Rosemarie is a proper Paris bistro in the 7th, the kind where the cooking is seasonal and traditional and nobody is trying to reinvent anything. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks: the food is careful and the room feels lived-in without being shabby. Named, sweetly, after both owners' mothers.

    Lyonnaise Bistro

A Lyonnais bouchon reread for a Paris suburb: pressed-tin nostalgia meets well-chosen antiques and a counter facing the open kitchen. This small, relaxed bistro runs a tight no-options set menu that changes with the seasons and leans on organic vegetables from Essonne. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand. 38. Terra is a loft-style French restaurant in the Marais that feels more Brooklyn than the 3rd arrondissement, with a modern take on the old repertoire. The mains are built for two, so bring someone who'll let you do the ordering, ideally toward the Basque lamb that spends hours in the oven and ends up with crackling skin. The tiny starters are skippable in theory and a mistake in practice.

  39. The lofts here pack a sleeping area, a proper kitchen, a dining table, and a desk into a footprint that would make a Paris studio blush. Zoku is an apartment-style hotel that started in Amsterdam and landed in the 17th, inside a mixed-use building in Clichy-Batignolles, a neighborhood that is still, conspicuously, figuring itself out. The rooftop terrace grows produce for the restaurant below, which is either very charming or very on-brand, depending on your mood.

  40. A private garden connects the two buildings of this boutique hotel in the 16th, which already tells you the pace you're in for. Floral prints, actual flowers, and a charmingly unhurried atmosphere fill both houses, Maison Molitor and Maison Boileau. Comforts are thoughtful rather than lavish. Breakfast arrives in the dining room or picnic-style in the garden, and the Bois de Boulogne is a short walk when the greenery still isn't enough.

  42. The 15th is the kind of arrondissement that Parisians live in but tourists skip, which is precisely why the nightly rates here don't sting. Hôtel Clarisse is a boutique hotel with an industrial-salvage aesthetic that reads more London than Paris, navy-and-white rooms with mosaic tile bathrooms, and easy access to Parc Georges-Brassens. Triple and quad rooms make it genuinely practical for families or groups who'd rather not book two of everything.

    The awards

  43. Star Wars masks on the walls and a complimentary bag of gummy bears on the pillow set the tone at this design hotel near the Porte de Versailles expo grounds. Concrete walls meet psychedelic carpets and velvet cushions, the rooftop bar has DJs on weekends, and there's an indoor basketball court for when sightseeing loses its appeal. You're on the edge of the city, but breakfast on the terrace comes with a skyline view most central hotels can't match.

    The awards

  44. Philippe Starck designed the interiors, Jean Nouvel built the tower, and somewhere between the two of them a hotel landed on top of a skyscraper on Paris's southern edge with views straight to the Eiffel Tower. The 13th arrondissement is not where anyone expects a rooftop spa and open-air Jacuzzi, which is somewhat the point. A panoramic restaurant and a roof terrace cocktail bar mean you can watch the city from several altitudes without ever leaving the building.

Ferdi is a snug brasserie near the Tuileries with an improbably eclectic menu, jumping from Greek sharing plates to Venezuelan tapas to ceviche, all under one knick-knack-crowded roof. Kim Kardashian is a regular, which tells you something about the burgers. End with the churros and hot chocolate, which is non-negotiable.

  48. Rank 848. Le Calbar

    Creative Cocktail Bar

The bartenders here wear crisp shirts and bow ties, which is where the formality ends, as everything below the waist is boxer shorts. Le Calbar is a cocktail bar in the 12th that has carved out a niche by refusing to be precious about itself, a posture Paris does not always come naturally to. The drinks, though, are careful and creative, built around a menu of country-themed cocktails that take the concept more seriously than the dress code.

    The awards

  49. A modernist chandelier fit for a Sun King hangs over the emerald-and-gold lobby bar, which sets the tone for this boutique hotel a ten-minute walk from Versailles. The 19th-century facade gives way to parquet floors and trompe l'oeil ceilings, and the restaurant, Alcôve, runs modern French rather than period pastiche. Small enough to feel intimate, central enough to make the palace an afterthought.

    The awards

  50. Rank 848. Le Rigmarole

    Japanese Barbecue

The menu at this intimate counter restaurant lists dishes as single words, "thigh", "oyster", "meatball", and the descriptions only get more opaque from there. What arrives, cooked over Japanese binchotan charcoal and served across a walnut counter under vintage Tiffany lamps, is nothing like the word suggests. It reads as a playful antidote to stiff Parisian fine dining, while remaining, unmistakably, fine dining.

  51. The wood paneling and black awning on the Quai Voltaire hide a brasserie that has been feeding Paris's creative and moneyed set for well over a century, in the building where Voltaire himself once lived. 55. Rank 859. 19.20 by Norbert Tarayre

    Traditional French

The dessert trolley is the tell: this is a restaurant that has decided luxury hotel dining should feel like Sunday lunch at a well-traveled aunt's house. Norbert Tarayre, the chef France met on Top Chef, runs the kitchen inside the Prince de Galles on Avenue George-V, turning out leeks vinaigrette, celeriac remoulade, and pommes Anna with pork shoulder, the kind of regional French cooking that Paris hotels usually consider beneath them.

  60. Rank 859. Akabeko

    Japanese

A downstairs counter and a quietly romantic room upstairs give this Japanese-French fusion restaurant two very different moods under one roof. The chef runs an omakase menu, so you show up and trust the kitchen, which draws on Japanese technique and a clear affection for French classics. Foie gras with teriyaki sauce gives you the general idea. The team takes the hospitality side seriously, in the way that makes you notice it without being sure why.

  61. Rank 859. Akira Back Paris

    Fusion Japanese

The Art Deco light fixtures cast the kind of flattering glow that makes everyone look like they have their life together. This Japanese fusion restaurant inside the Prince de Galles is the first European outpost of Akira Back, the former pro snowboarder turned chef who came up under Nobu Matsuhisa. The menu blends Korean and Japanese influences, the marble counter anchors an open kitchen, and the AB Tuna Pizza has become something of a calling card.

  62. Rank 859. Albufera

    Portuguese Mediterranean

Portuguese music plays in the dining room, which tells you roughly everything about this French bistro in Boulogne-Billancourt. Simple room, warm welcome, and a caramelised lemon cream at the end that does not overexplain itself.

The chef François Gagnaire essentially runs a love letter to his home region out of a Left Bank address, which is a quietly winning idea.

  66. Rank 859. Argile

    Modern French

Red tile floors, brick walls, and a glass-fronted façade near Gare Saint-Lazare set the scene at this snug modern bistro in the 9th. Natural wines, relaxed service, and a lunch menu that feels like a throwback to when this city fed people properly without making them feel it.

  67. The chef traded spreadsheets for Ferrandi, then a stint at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before landing here in the 9th. ASPIC is an intimate creative tasting-menu restaurant with an open kitchen and a vintage room that feels more like someone's well-curated dining room than a destination. The surprise set menu changes with the chef's sourcing: small-boat fish, free-range birds, local citrus and herbs. No choices, no à la carte, no negotiating with the menu.

  76. Rank 859. Baillotte

    Modern French

The red frontage on rue du Dragon belongs to a bistro run by a Japanese chef who trained at Georges Blanc and calls his cooking "semi-gourmet," which is either modesty or a trap. The food is French in bones and Japanese in precision, with sauces that take longer to make than most places take to plate the whole dish. The wine-by-the-glass list is quietly serious, and the staff actually know why.

  77. A Pigalle bistro where the menu moves freely between classic and modern French without apologizing for either. The chef's cooking is rooted in the land, so the produce does the heavy lifting: duck, foie gras, and pâté en croûte sit alongside guinea fowl with aubergine and cherries in red wine vinegar. Lunch is an affordable set menu; evenings open into tasting menus and à la carte. Neighborhood tables, unfussy room, serious cooking.

A bistro in the 17th where the chef also runs a.lea across town, which tells you something about her range. The room has that unhurried neighborhood feel, and the cooking leans traditional French without getting stuck there: a langoustine bisque arrives with citrus and a sharp aioli, and the chocolate mousse gets a finish of fleur de sel and olive oil. Precise, unfussy, and very much a place you'd want a table at twice.

  88. Rank 859. Bon Kushikatsu

    Osaka Japanese

Kushikatsu is the Osaka street-food tradition of breaded, deep-fried skewers, and this small spot on rue Jean-Pierre-Timbaud takes it seriously. The format is simple, the execution less so: foie gras flambéed in Japanese whisky turns up alongside wagyu beef and shiitake stuffed with ginger chicken. An evening omakase menu runs the full range; lunch keeps things shorter and easier on the wallet. Quietly stylish, unhurried service, and a room that fills with people who came back.

  93. Rank 859. Brasserie du Louvre

    Lyonnaise Brasserie

Floor-to-ceiling windows frame one of the great Paris postcards: the Comédie-Française, the Louvre, and the Conseil d'État all at once. This is a classic brasserie, doing the full canon with snails, sole meunière, and some properly Lyonnaise intrusions, pike quenelle among them. In fine weather the terrace under the Haussmannian arcade fills fast, and you can hardly blame anyone for ordering slowly.

  95. A wood-fired neo-vintage bistro in the 3rd where the open kitchen puts the grill front and center, and whole cuts of turbot or suckling pig arrive on stainless steel platters meant for sharing. The retro mosaic tiles make it feel like it's been around forever, the booths give you just enough privacy, and the cooking is straightforward in the way that takes real confidence to pull off.

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
