  1. Rank 301. Bistro B

    Modern French

A glazed wine cellar anchors the dining room at this modern French bistro on Cartier, where the open kitchen lets you watch the team plate food that leans more confident and less classically Gallic than the name might suggest. Portions are smaller but the ingredients are not modest, and the owner's own market garden supplies the produce in season. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which tracks with the neighborhood crowd it draws.

  2. A copper-clad bar, vinyl on the turntable, and a menu that changes every day: Buvette Scott is a wine bar in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste neighbourhood where small plates and good pours are the whole point. Plan on four dishes, split them, and pick something from a wine list that leans local and stays affordable. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks for a room this unpretentious and this easy to return to.

    Seafood

This is a seafood restaurant with a wall of vintage etched mirrors and a menu that cheerfully ignores the rules. The focaccia arrives on a toddler's melamine alphabet plate, the caesar gets sprouting broccoli and tempura crunchies, and the margarita involves gingered rye and douglas fir. Now and then the spot prawn guy walks in mid-service with the day's catch, which is as close to a fish market as a mirror gallery gets.

  8. The Peking duck here requires a phone call to reserve, then arrives tableside in a cloud of flambéed rum, carved to order, with the carcass reborn as soup or a peppery stir-fry for the finale. This Shaanxi restaurant on Granville pairs that theater with biang biang noodles, roast lamb, and waterfront views. A Michelin Selected pick, it draws a crowd that planned ahead and dressed for the occasion.

  26. An old house in the heart of Mont-Tremblant village, turned into a cozy fine dining room where the chef's past life cooking on yachts quietly shapes the menu. Local ingredients get the globe-trotting treatment: Lake Tremblant walleye shows up in a crispy tempura, and the osso bucco is the kind of low-and-slow thing that makes you cancel your ski plans. Italy and France anchor the wine list, and the service is warm without being fussy.

  32. The outdoor sparkling bar overlooking the vines is a good hint at what you're in for at this winery restaurant on the Niagara Stone Road. Inside, it's a prix-fixe contemporary dining room running two and three courses, with the kitchen sourcing close to home and leaning hard into the seasons. The patio at lunch, with rows of vines stretching out ahead of you, is the move. A AAA Four Diamond property and a Michelin Selected Restaurant.

  34. Yoga mats and bamboo slippers in every suite signal the commitment to calm at this all-suite boutique hotel tucked into Toronto's financial district. The Zen design runs floor to ceiling, earthy tones and clean lines throughout, and full-length windows open onto the skyline and Lake Ontario. A steakhouse sits just off the lobby, and Spa Zen handles anything the city still has left on you. Selected by the Michelin Guide.

    The awards

  35. Glass-walled showers face photos of shirtless athletes, which tells you most of what you need to know about this boutique hotel next to Scotiabank Arena. The Montreal-based Germain group brings Euro-chic to what is otherwise a steel-and-glass office district, pairing loft-style rooms and Egyptian cotton with a lobby lounge that serves cocktails and tapas to anyone pre-gaming a Leafs night. Selected by the Michelin Guide.

    The awards

  36. Goose-down duvets and bedside reading lamps signal what kind of boutique hotel this is: one that treats comfort as a design principle rather than an afterthought. Le Germain sits in Toronto's entertainment district, steps from theaters, restaurants, and Scotiabank Centre, so the location does real work. Rooms run warm-toned wood and rich textures in a modernist vein. PUNCH and the Mercer Lounge bar are both on-site when you don't feel like wandering far.

    The awards

  37. Nobu's first Canadian hotel squeezes just 36 rooms into the downtown Entertainment District, which makes it feel more like a private club than a chain outpost. Pale wood, floor-to-ceiling windows, and stone bathrooms with soaking tubs carry the brand's minimalist Japanese aesthetic throughout. Corner suites get the skyline; lake-facing ones get glass fireplaces. The Sakura Lounge, a tea house-inspired retreat, is kept for guests only, which is a rare thing this close to TIFF headquarters.

    The awards

  38. Glass tower next to BC Place, the Douglas is a luxury hotel that splits the difference between slick modernism and loft-industrial warmth. It sits inside the Parq Vancouver complex, so the list of bars, restaurants, and a casino sprawls well beyond the hotel itself. The spa and fitness center are expansive, and the Michelin Guide has it among its selected hotels. Good base camp if you want Yaletown walkable but don't need to be inside it.

    The awards

  39. Named for the balsam fir, this bright, casual bistro in the Laurentians feels like a neighbourhood spot that happened to end up somewhere very pretty. The team, with roots at Le Mousso and Le Club Chasse et Pêche, turns out modern Québécois cooking built for sharing over natural wine. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks for a room where bottles circulate freely and nobody seems in any particular hurry to leave.

  40. The team behind Faux Bergers runs this lively little wine bar on the main drag in Baie-Saint-Paul, where the point is Charlevoix ingredients handled simply and shared around the table. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The room fills fast with locals and visitors who order in rounds, and the menu moves with the seasons, leaning on the kind of regional produce that makes this corner of Quebec worth the detour.

  41. A family-run restaurant on the banks of the St. Lawrence, with a terrace that earns its postcard reputation in summer. The kitchen leans hard into Quebec terroir, right down to the duck, which comes from a local farmer who once cooked here himself. Menus shift with the seasons, service runs warm and unhurried, and the adjoining shop sells mostly local goods for the drive home. A Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  42. Most of the space is a working kitchen supplying pasta to other restaurants around the city, which tells you something about priorities. The pasta shop itself opens for lunch only, for a few hours, with two or so pasta dishes on offer that day and not much else. Diners line the sidewalk on an industrial strip of Dovercourt Village to claim one of the scarce tables. The Michelin Guide has it selected, and the limited menu is the whole point.

  44. Rank 343. Phnom Penh

    Southeast Asian

Lines form before the doors open at this cash-only Chinatown institution, which has been running Vietnamese and Cambodian food out of the same room forever. The menu stretches to nearly a hundred dishes, but regulars navigate straight to the beef luc lac, the salt-pepper-sugar wings, and a plate of thinly sliced raw beef in pineapple fish sauce that sounds odd until it arrives. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  45. Rank 346. Chupito

    Mexican

A covered outdoor taqueria on Yukon Street that feels like someone smuggled a great Mexico City back-alley spot into a Vancouver residential neighbourhood. The Mexican cooking leans a little ambitious, and the cocktail program punches well above the taqueria average. 47. You climb a flight of stairs off Cambie to find white tablecloths, chandeliers, and a wall of pristine fish tanks keeping watch over the room. It's an upscale dim sum shop drawing the kind of crowd that irons its shirts, but the Michelin Bib Gourmand signals the menu won't punish your wallet the way the setting implies. The kitchen plays dim sum mostly traditional, with occasional detours that actually make sense.

  49. Jen Agg's Kensington Market restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which tells you something about the short, shape-shifting menu: it changes often, leans on raw bar, house-made pasta, and whatever the kitchen feels like doing, and it overdelivers quietly. The room is loud and good-looking, the wine list is serious, and the crowd arrives dressed like they knew about this street before you did. Cash in your pocket optional; attitude is the currency here.

  50. Bold colors and Frette linens fill a boutique hotel that sits squarely in Yaletown, where the cafes, galleries, and restaurants make the central business district feel like a punishment. The brick facade softens the contemporary building from the outside, and the renovated rooms come with Herman Miller chairs and Malin + Goetz products for people who notice those things. Capo does wood-fired pizza; the Spritz bar pulls in locals alongside guests most nights of the week.

    The awards

  51. A Dale Chihuly glass sculpture in the lobby sets the tone: this Wellington Street West boutique hotel pairs modernist furniture and neutral tones with soaking tubs and Molton Brown products in the bathrooms. The location sits in Toronto's rough equivalent of midtown Manhattan, which means it works equally well for theatre-goers, shoppers, and the suits. Stylish without being difficult about it, which, depending on your tastes, is either the point or the whole problem.

    The awards

  52. Every room at The Drake is hung with original art, and the hotel has been the anchor of West Queen West's creative scene for what feels like forever. The Classic Wing leans into vintage and retro, while the Modern Wing runs custom furniture and bold décor to the point of excess, in a good way. A courtyard lounge bar connects the two, and a live music venue downstairs keeps things from ever going too quiet.

    The awards

  53. The neo-Gothic facade on a quiet Yorkville side street gives nothing away about what's inside: 28 suites done in warm cream minimalism, Frette sheets, limestone bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs, and 24-hour butler service. A Bentley ferries guests around, which may explain why this boutique hotel has become the de facto base for Toronto International Film Festival talent. The Tea Room runs afternoon service by day and a champagne and caviar bar by night.

  59. Every room in this red brick Victorian hotel on Queen West was decorated by a different Canadian artist and carries a title like an original artwork, not just a number. The result is bohemian-baroque rather than luxury-minimalist, and the vibe holds through the building. The railway still runs close enough to feel it, and the bar stays loud late, so bring earplugs or a tolerance for good company.

  60. The awards

  61. Robot room service is either the future or a sign we've given up on human contact, and Hôtel Monville has committed fully to finding out. This sleek, tower-style hotel in downtown Montréal leans hard into the ultra-modern, with architecture that turns heads on a street where cobblestones are usually the draw. Selected by the Michelin Guide, it appeals to guests who'd rather book everything on an app than talk to anyone at check-in.

    The awards

  62. A Marriott Autograph Collection hotel in downtown Montreal, Humaniti fills its rooms and corridors with works by Québécois artists alongside colorful Modernist interiors by Lemay + Escobar. An expansive spa, rooftop pool, and a restaurant and lounge run by celebrated local chef Jean-Sébastien Giguère round things out. It's the kind of hotel that has done its homework, which in this category is less common than it should be.

    The awards

  63. The awards

  64. A former Holiday Inn turned Kimpton property, the Saint George sits on Bloor Street just west of Yorkville, which means it's upscale without being precious about it. Nearly 200 rooms across 14 floors manage to feel boutique-scaled, with Frette linens and genuinely attentive service doing most of the convincing. The Fortunate Fox gastropub downstairs handles fish and chips and craft cocktails with equal enthusiasm. The Michelin Guide lists it among its selected hotels.

    The awards

  65. A 36-room hotel on Rue Saint-Jacques where the art installations are the décor, not something hung on top of it. Rooms are open-plan with modular seating that converts from desk to lounge to dining corner depending on the hour, and projections and textural materials run throughout. It has the energy of a boutique hotel that genuinely cannot decide if it's a gallery, which, depending on your mood, is either a feature or a lot.

A long counter, a partly open kitchen, and a minimalist room just off the Quartier des Spectacles mark this as a relaxed spot for sharing plates rather than a sit-down-and-settle-in kind of night. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks with the vibe: good cooking, no ceremony required.

  69. The carrot plate arrives topped with bay leaf ice cream over melted brie, and the menu doesn't apologize for it. This creative neighbourhood restaurant on Queen East has a whimsical, eclectic room and dishes that quietly wink at other spots around town. Modern Persian

Natural light pours through lattice screens and past paintings by local Iranian artists at this modern Persian restaurant on West 4th. The kitchen leans into the architecture of Persian flavors: tart dried limes, fragrant spices, richness from nuts and seeds. 72. Sunchoke with salal berry and burnt onion isn't a dish you'd find yourself ordering on instinct, which is part of the point at this creative vegetarian fine-dining room in Mount Pleasant. The kitchen names its organic BC suppliers on the menu and takes texture as seriously as flavor. The rotisserie chicken here gets an overnight brine before it even sees heat, which tells you something about how seriously this neighborhood restaurant takes comfort food. 75. A former bank building on a quiet street in Old Québec's 17th-century core, Hotel 71 is a 60-room boutique hotel where the vaulted bones of the place set the stage but don't run the show. The interiors go modern against the historic backdrop, and the penthouse comes with its own private roof terrace. Downstairs there's an espresso lounge, an automated wine bar, and an upscale Italian restaurant with a grappa list longer than most people's attention spans.

    The awards

  76. Beds raised off the floor, desks that slide into the wall, glassed-in bathrooms, and a courtyard strung with hammocks and lit by firepits: a wallet-friendly hotel on a narrow street just below the old city walls. Rooms are compact but thought out, and the breakfast room tends to hold guests longer than planned. Old Quebec and the St. Lawrence are a short walk away, so you spend your money on the city, not the room.

  77. The bones of a 1912 fish and fruit warehouse are still visible in the dark wood paneling and bones of this Old Port boutique hotel, softened now by deep armchairs, goose-down duvets, and bedside tables that swing out from the wall. 83. The alabaster fireplace in the lobby glows like a lantern, which is a strange thing to find inside a ten-story Beaux-Arts building in Vieux-Montréal. That contrast is the whole point of the St. Paul Hotel: a seriously spare, design-magazine interior dropped into a grand historic shell. High ceilings and big picture windows help. The Michelin Guide has it among its selected hotels, and the neighborhood alone earns its keep on a long weekend.

  84. Rank 385. Farmer's Apprentice

    Innovative Canadian

Fresh sourdough baked daily sets the tone at this tiny, rustic neighborhood restaurant on Vancouver's west side, where the menu rotates around whatever local produce is worth celebrating that week. The cooking is inventive without being showy, and a Michelin Bib Gourmand confirms the kitchen punches above its modest room. On weekends, the chef pivots to Tausug-Filipino barbecue at lunch, which keeps regulars coming back on a schedule.

  86. Roast duck and char siu hang lacquered in the window on East Pender, which is all the sign Chinatown BBQ really needs. It's a casual Cantonese barbecue spot with vintage art on the walls, a lazy Susan in the middle of the table, and regulars who look like they've never once consulted the menu. 93. Rank 391. POP Wine Bar

    Natural Wine Bar

Oysters shucked to order, caviar service, artisanal cheese, and a wine list deep in small-production naturals, all of it happening in Saskatoon. This wine bar leans hard into the Parisian boîte fantasy, and the list rewards the curious: skin-contact wines from the Okanagan, odd co-ferments, bottles that traveled a long way to end up somewhere genuinely surprising. The cocktail side runs to very cold Martinis and milk punches. Canada's 100 Best ranks it among the country's top bars.

  95. Nine rooms in a building that's been around forever, perched above the St. Lawrence in Old Quebec. The Hôtel Cap Diamant is a quiet boutique hotel where tall windows look out over either Cap Diamant or the old town rooftops, and high ceilings keep things from feeling precious despite all the custom furniture. Breakfast doubles as an excuse to stay at the table. Château Frontenac is a short walk away, which you'll appreciate and then ignore.

  96. A broadcast-ready recording studio in the lobby bar is either bold or completely on-brand for the W, and here it reads as both. This hotel lands in Yorkville with the chain's signature riot of color and sculptural architecture, a rooftop restaurant and bar from Akira Back, serious fitness and wellness facilities, and public spaces that pull in the neighborhood as much as the guests. Selected by the Michelin Guide.

  97. Black-and-white tile floors, a chalkboard of daily specials, and a window onto the pasta rolling station set the scene at this snug Commercial Drive bistro, where the kitchen focuses almost entirely on handmade pasta. The tasting option lets the chef pick an off-menu assortment for you, which is a reasonable way to surrender control on a Tuesday. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the kind of place where watching your dinner get made is half the point.

  98. Rank 400. Max Noodle House

    Cantonese Noodle Shop

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
