  5. Rank 8780. Akhanay Coffee Roasters

    Southeast Asian Coffee Shop

A bright blue truck parked outside a rock climbing gym is perhaps the least likely setting for a serious coffee program, and yet here we are. Akhanay is a specialty coffee truck drawing on Thai and Southeast Asian tradition, pouring drinks like a coconut cold brew and a mango sticky rice matcha. Orders go in online, and you collect them curbside, ideally before someone asks if you're there to climb.

  6. Rank 8780. Al Ameer

    Lebanese

This is a big, family-friendly Lebanese restaurant in Dearborn, and it's apparently where half of Detroit sends you the moment you land at the airport. The pita comes out of an oven shipped over from Lebanon, which is more dedication than most of us give our commutes. Come for the hummus, the shawarma wraps with a sharp hit of toum, or a slow-roasted lamb on almond rice built for a table of relatives. Order the Lemon Crush.

  7. Rank 8780. Al Bawadi Grill

    Middle Eastern

Colorful fabric drapes the ceiling like a Bedouin tent, and the smell of mesquite smoke hits you before you find a table. Al Bawadi is a sprawling Middle Eastern grill in Niles where the portions arrive on banquet platters, hummus and rice piled high enough to guarantee tomorrow's lunch. Kefta, kebabs, lamb, chicken, seafood, all over hardwood. The New York Times put it on their list of the 25 best restaurants in Chicago right now.

  8. Rank 8780. Al Forat Market

    Middle Eastern

A halal grocery and meat market in Sunnyvale that also happens to run a charcoal grill out back. Order a koobideh or chicken tikka skewer and about fifteen minutes later someone emerges with an aluminum tray lined with lavash, which quietly absorbs all the smoky, spiced drippings. The San Francisco Chronicle named it one of the Bay Area's top Middle Eastern spots. Sides you'll have to source elsewhere, but the skewers alone make the detour easy to justify.

  10. A sculpted amethyst rock anchors the coffee bar, a gold nugget juts from the back wall, and a mural covers the entire side of the room, which is a lot to take in before your first sip. This Johns Creek coffee shop looks like a strip-mall afterthought from the parking lot, so the interior earns its surprise. Specialty lattes use beans from Cafe Campesino, and Dutch coffee and waffles round out the menu.

  11. Rank 8780. Alegria

    Latin American Cocktail Bar

A cocktail bar inside Bryant Street Market's food hall in Edgewood, Alegria spun out of a beloved 14th Street agave spot and kept the Latin spirits focus while widening the net. Hibiscus, cacao, and fresh fruit make their way into the drinks alongside a beer list that moves from Pacifico to a Hyattsville local. Canned cocktails go out the door for those who can't be contained to 26 seats.

  13. This is the Morningside flagship of a longtime Atlanta bakery, where four separate counters operate behind glass doors in a state of organized chaos. One handles bread and sweet, sticky cinnamon twists, another does delicate desserts like opera cakes and macarons, and the prepared foods case is where you go to look like you cooked for the dinner party. The Infatuation has it on its list of the city's best bakeries. Order a sandwich first, so you shop with a clear head.

  14. Rank 8780. AltoVino

    Italian

A Cal-Italian restaurant on Nob Hill where all the pasta is made in-house and the Bolognese simmers for half a day before it touches a plate. The kitchen leans on the rich, meaty flavors of central Italy, which means comfort is the whole project, not an afterthought. The room is cozy enough that the cooking and the atmosphere feel like they had a meeting. The San Francisco Chronicle has named it among the best Italian in the Bay Area.

  15. Rank 8780. Amakara Sushi

    Contemporary Sushi

A sumo wrestler mural runs the length of the wall at this sleek, sprawling contemporary sushi spot in downtown Dublin. The 188-seat room feels casual despite its size, with granite counters and deep slouchy chairs built for a long night. Weekend crowds come for creative rolls and ramen alongside a full cocktail list, and the clam ramen in butter-enriched broth tends to slow people down mid-conversation. The San Francisco Chronicle named it among the Bay Area's top Japanese restaurants.

  16. The entrance is styled as a dry cleaner, complete with hanging racks of clothes you push through to reach a gold-leaf, hand-painted dining room with a live jazz trio. This elegant Cuban-Korean-Peruvian sit-down restaurant in a strip mall off the Palmetto is from the family behind Islas Canarias, and the menu runs mojo chicken alongside lomo saltado risotto and katsu-style chicharrones. The New York Times named it one of Miami's 25 best restaurants.

  17. A cozy Richmond District Thai restaurant with a menu long enough to require real commitment. The slow-braised pork-leg stew, a Thai street-vendor staple fragrant with cinnamon, star anise, and soy, is the kind of thing regulars order before they sit down. The crispy chicken wings in sticky chile-garlic sauce pull their weight too. Hard-to-find specialties fill out a menu that goes well beyond the usual neighborhood Thai repertoire.

  19. Rank 8780. Angelo’s

    American Italian

  20. The yurt out back, snow-dusted and strung with twinkle lights, seats twelve for private dinners and tells you everything about Angelo's ambitions. It's a newish Italian restaurant in the heart of Aspen, already the default for big-table occasions, with a menu that swings from nostalgic tomato-basil fusilli to a white-chocolate dessert shell that cracks open to reveal yuzu ganache inside.

  21. Black tablecloths and béarnaise sauce in a city that keeps reinventing itself: Antiquity has been Old Town's steakhouse for the kind of dinner that comes with a ring box or a round number. Oysters Rockefeller, beef carpaccio, bacon-wrapped filet, all delivered with the formal unhurried pace that casual-dining culture declared dead years ago. The room hasn't flinched, and neither have the regulars who seem to book the same corner table every anniversary.

  27. Butterfly tapestries climb the walls and spill onto a mezzanine level, and the bar fixtures look like conch shells, so you know the room has opinions. Augie's is a French bistro that earns its snails with the clamps and forks for the full surgical experience, though you can also order them Buffalo-style, which France will just have to accept. The burger, all pan-crusted patty and comté, has become a reason to drive up from the city.

  28. The bacon burger and Strawberry Sriracha Burger share a menu with shrimp and grits and French toast bites, which tells you something about Avenue Pub's ambitions: a casual American bar and grill that wants to be useful at every hour. Lunch draws a crowd heavy on salads and sandwiches, dinner fills in the comfort-food gaps, and brunch adds its own reasons to show up. The bar area is a solid perch for a beer and whatever game is on.

  29. Rank 8780. b. Patisserie

    Patisserie

The kouign amanns at this French patisserie on California Street are craggy, almost weightless things that have earned a loyal queue out the door. Inside, the counter runs in precise rows: small rectangular cakes, custard cups, bostocks, croissants. The pace is brisk, so know your order before you reach the front. A few tables inside, a parklet out, or the sister café nearby for when you want to sit down properly.

  30. Rank 8780. Ba Bar

    Vietnamese

The pho broth here simmers for a full day on marrow bones, and you can taste the patience in it. Ba Bar is a Vietnamese restaurant and bar where the cocktail menu leans into tamarind and orgeat without taking itself too seriously, which matters when you're also ordering chicken wings. The New York Times named it one of Seattle's 25 best restaurants. The South Lake Union location keeps reasonable hours; the original Capitol Hill spot runs until midnight.

  32. Babystacks is a casual, fairly small pancake-and-skillet breakfast spot that settles the sweet-versus-savory argument by serving short stacks as a side to your actual meal. Red velvet with cream cheese sauce can sit next to a loaded potato skillet, and nobody at the table has to lose. Weekend mornings fill up fast, so arrive early or settle in for a wait that can stretch past an hour.

  33. Rank 8780. Bạc Liêu

    Vietnamese

The bún mắm here, a thick-noodled seafood soup built on fermented fish broth and lemongrass, is the dish that defines what this Mission District Vietnamese restaurant is doing differently. The menu draws from Bạc Liêu, a coastal southern province whose mastery of fermented seafood doesn't often make it this far north. The grilled shrimp paste on sugarcane, served with rice noodles and vegetables for DIY wraps, has its own following.

  34. A brewery on Fulton Street that leans hard into the Space City thing, with a hazy IPA called Fake Landing for hop heads who enjoy a conspiracy theory alongside their pint. The beer program covers lagers, IPAs, and hard seltzers, and there's wine by the glass for anyone who wandered in for the foosball. The foosball table, it should be noted, is not a metaphor.

  35. Bahn Thai is a small, casual Thai spot in University Heights, the sort where lunch costs about what you'd hope and the portions suggest the kitchen has never heard of restraint. You choose a dish, a spice level, and a protein, a three-step system so clear it practically has a diagram. The dining room is tiny, so most people grab takeout and eat in the car, on a bench, or with total conviction at their desk.

  36. The bones of the building are original 1950s auto-service center, which gives this neighborhood brewpub a satisfying reason to look up at the ceiling. IPAs anchor the tap list, with other ales rotating by season, so regulars tend to have a new reason to stop in. A nice wrinkle: if someone in your group isn't feeling beer, the wine bar next door will send them over with a glass, no drama.

  37. Baked On 8th is a neighborhood bakery and cafe whose pastry case runs most of the length of the building, which is the kind of floor plan that tells you what the priorities are. The millionaire shortbread is the one people bring up, with a cookie-dough-ish base under thick caramel. Custom cakes are the specialty, but a single slice covers the more modest occasion of having survived a Tuesday. Prices stay friendly, and no one dresses up.

  39. Rank 8780. Bakers Bench

    Vegan Bakery

Vegan croissants that make you forget to ask whether they're vegan: that's the opening argument at this pastry shop in East LA, run by a chef whose work with nondairy butter has quietly shifted what the format can do. The Danishes lean on fruit from the Santa Monica Farmers' Market, and the annual pithivier has developed its own following. The New York Times named it among the top bakeries in the country.

  40. Rank 8780. Baklavastory

    Turkish Bakery

A baklava shop so focused it sells exactly two things: walnut and pistachio, by the tray, full stop. The phyllo is made in-house, which almost no one bothers to do, and you'll know it the moment your teeth go through it. The San Francisco Chronicle named it among the Bay Area's best bakeries. Bring cash, pick pistachio, and try not to eat half the tray on the walk back to your car.

  41. Rank 8780. Bamonte's

    Italian-American

  42. Rank 8780. Bar Angie

    Deco-inspired Italian Cocktail Bar

Bar Angie is a 16-seat cocktail bar upstairs from Angie's, with its own private entrance, so you can skip the downstairs wait without anyone knowing you're hovering. The room goes full Italian Deco, all violet marble and bronze-tinted mirrors, lit warmly enough to forgive a long day. The seasonal drinks come from a former Anvil bartender, with a mortadella sandwich nearby for ballast. Eater included it among Houston's best new cocktail bars.

  43. Rank 8780. Bar Arbolada

    Cocktail Bar

A craft cocktail bar that became famous for a burger when Alton Brown stopped in before a show and declared the double cheeseburger the finest in the country on social media. The smash burger kept the reputation, but Bar Arbolada is still a bar first, with classic daiquiris and a tequila-watermelon-balsamic number worth ordering on the front porch at lunch. Late-night, it's the burger crowd; afternoons, it's a little more civilized.

  45. Bar Brine is what the vegetarian cafe Sneaky Pickle becomes after dark, a neighborhood cocktail bar in the Bywater that swaps the daytime tofu crowd for people who care about shrubs. The drinks lean on housemade cordials, including a rum, passion fruit, and absinthe punch and a coconut-and-cognac answer to the espresso martini. The kitchen keeps going too, with meat and fish alongside the plant-based menu, so nobody has to eat a cocktail onion for dinner.

  46. Rank 8780. Bar Bruno

    Mexican

  47. Rank 8780. Bar Daphne

    Cocktail Bar

A bright green sign on 20th points you toward a cocktail bar where the drinks are named after the paintings hanging in the hotel around it, so you can order your art by the glass. The room is low-lit and plush, a nod to the Heights' old drinking clubs, and nobody will rush you out of your seat. Bar bites include salt and vinegar chips under smoked trout roe. Eater put it on a list of Houston's best new cocktail bars.

  48. Rank 8780. Bar Gabi

    Eastern European

Bar Gabi is a Romanian-leaning dinner spot in Hazel Park that's built for passing plates and losing track of time. The menu strays happily into Italy and beyond, so a schnitzel the size of a catcher's mitt shares the table with goulash, gnocchetti, and focaccia with whipped feta. The big corner booth fits about six friends, which is roughly the headcount this whole operation assumes you'll arrive with.

  49. Rank 8780. Bar Moon

    Cocktail Bar

You reach this cocktail lounge by emerald carpet, a private elevator, and a pair of floor-to-ceiling green doors, which is a lot of ceremony for a drink. The menu follows the lunar cycle, from a mint-washed gin on the light side to black sesame rum and ube cold foam on the dark one. Golden Hour means $10 cocktails and oysters on weekdays, and weekends bring DJs. Dress like you were told about the elevator.

  51. Rank 8780. Barbecue Station

    Central Texas Barbecue

The menu lives on a board, the pits run on post oak and mesquite, and the building used to sell gasoline. This is a barbecue counter in a converted gas station on Loop 410, and it's been going strong for decades. All meat is cut to order, the brisket sandwich arrives on cottony white bread that's somehow exactly right, and Mimi's potato salad, a family recipe, is the side you don't skip. The Michelin Guide has it listed.

  52. Rank 8780. Barberio Osteria

    Californian Italian

Handmade pasta and seasonal Italian cooking from the team behind AltoVino, landing on Valencia Street with enough confidence to unsettle places that have been doing this for decades. The bagna cauda arrives warm over a votive candle, an anchovy-laced olive oil dip that earns the table's full attention before the rest of the menu even starts. Produce gets treated with the same seriousness as the proteins, which is the quiet tell of a kitchen that knows what it's doing.

  53. Barebottle is a warehouse-sized brewery in Bernal Heights where you navigate dog toys and stroller wheels just to reach the taps. Arcade games, foosball, and a wall of TVs keep the kids busy while the adults drink, and whatever food truck is parked out front handles dinner. Odds are good you'll run into your third grader's classmate, and their dog.

  55. Rank 8780. Basnight's Lone Cedar Cafe

    Sustainable Seafood

Perched on the causeway into Nags Head, this family-run seafood restaurant has been sourcing sustainably long before the menus started bragging about it. One of the family still catches some of what ends up on your plate, and if you spent the day fishing yourself, bring the haul in and the kitchen will clean and cook it. The ospreys nesting outside have names. Order the crab cakes, watch the sunset, and consider the day handled.

  59. A coffee shop that moonlights as a cocktail bar Wednesday through Saturday, Bellwood Coffee is also a working roastery, so the smell alone does some of the selling. The Glenwood Avenue location draws a neighborhood crowd for daytime espresso drinks and, come evening, craft cocktails alongside occasional jazz and open mic nights that keep things loose enough that nobody feels overdressed or underdressed.

  60. The rotating pour-over menu runs five or six options deep, which for a coffee shop is either impressive or a little daunting depending on how early you showed up. Belux started as a micro-roastery before opening this Roswell cafe, and the roasting pedigree shows in the sourcing: Jamaica Blue Mountain and Panama Geisha sit alongside the espresso and matcha standards. Monthly coffee tastings for anyone who wants to go further down the rabbit hole.

  61. Rank 8780. Better Days Cafe

    Vietnamese Coffee Shop

The coffee shop on SE Division is painted superhero blue and stocked with Portland Cà Phê beans for Vietnamese-style drinks, pastries from HeyDay next door in the supply chain, and enough vinyl culture in its DNA that the occasional DJ set feels less like an event and more like a Tuesday. The ube coconut cloud, a non-caffeinated iced drink, does a slow cascade inside the glass that will make you stop mid-sip.

  62. A cocktail served in a bubbling miniature bathtub is the social media event this French-leaning dinner spot seems designed around, and nobody there is pretending otherwise. The menu runs from hamachi tiradito to bison flank, the sunset views over Aspen are doing real work early in the evening, and by the time a DJ arrives the room has fully pivoted. Dinner here is openly, cheerfully a pregame.

  64. The chalkboard by the counter poses a daily trivia question, and a correct answer earns you a quarter off your drink. This easygoing coffee shop on Commercial Street has been around forever, and the staff will probably greet you by name whether you've been coming for years or it's your second visit. The caramel mocha with two shots of espresso is the drink regulars tend to order without looking at the menu.

  65. Rank 8780. Bijou

    French

The sauces at this French bistro are apparently the thing, and the chef behind the tasting-menu destination Table Culture Provisions built Bijou to be his looser, à la carte sibling. Looser is relative: the croque monsieur has truffle in it and there's a beef Wellington on the menu. The San Francisco Chronicle named it one of the best French restaurants in the Bay Area, which tracks for a room where the cooking is this fussy in the best possible, no wait, this precise.

  66. Rank 8780. Billiard Hoang

    Vietnamese

  67. Part seafood counter, part fish market, Billingsgate sits in Noe Valley doing two things quietly well. The poke draws the most attention, ahi tuna kept minimal with soy and chile flakes, best ordered alongside sushi rice, seaweed, and avocado. The Spanish tomato toast is worth the detour too, anchovies and jamón ibérico on crisped bread that arrives already a little aggressive and rewards collapsing into a sandwich.

  70. Bin 22 is a tapas and wine bar, and getting in means walking through a liquor store to the back, which is either charming or a very elaborate way to hide a restaurant. Locals and tourists share the communal tables and bar, so dining solo tends to end with a new acquaintance. The house-pulled mozzarella gets the most attention, and the rotating rosés keep the glasses full. The Infatuation lists it among Jackson Hole's top restaurants.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
