Rank 3. LORE
American-infused Indian
A corner storefront at the base of a Park Slope apartment building, which sounds modest until you sit down and notice the cocktail list reads like something a poet ordered. Lore is a neighborhood restaurant doing American-inflected Indian cooking, the kind of place where the food is careful without being precious. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the warm service makes the whole room feel like someone actually planned it that way.

Rank 4. Runner Up
New American
A sun-drenched sliver of a New American restaurant in Park Slope, Runner Up earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by doing exactly what it sounds like it shouldn't: taking vegetables seriously without making you feel lectured. The menu swings between playful and precise, with produce driving dishes that also happen to involve trout rillette or daikon standing in for tortellini. Bread and desserts come courtesy of the sibling spot next door, which is either cheating or genius.

Persian
Nasim Alikhani spent decades as a home cook in the Iranian diaspora before opening this Persian restaurant in Park Slope at 58, which explains why the food feels like someone's mother finally decided to show the city what she'd been holding back. Whitewashed brick, marble bar, black wood beams. The kitchen is faithful to Persian tradition but loose enough to foam a yogurt or call a pomegranate-marinated rib-eye a kebab. A James Beard nominee for Best Chef New York State.

Korean
A Korean restaurant in Park Slope where tteokbokki arrives topped with Oaxacan cheese and chorizo, which tells you everything about the kitchen's mood. The menu moves between savory vegetable pancakes, cod braised in sweet soy with daikon, and chilled soba noodles, then lands on beignets. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and the room fills with the kind of regulars who already know what they're ordering before they sit down.

Rank 11. Vato
Mexican
The flour tortillas are made in-house, and watching them come together at the counter is half the reason to show up early. This is a daytime tortilleria and counter-order burrito spot in Park Slope, from the team behind Corima. The tortillas are precise and pliable in a way that makes the whole thing feel different. Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting and sea salt finish the job if you're still hungry, which you probably aren't.
-
Negroni Jell-O cubes with Castelvetrano olives floating inside them is pretty much the thesis statement for this quirky Brooklyn restaurant. The menu is built for sharing and runs on a kind of gleeful nostalgia gone sideways, muffuletta dim sum sitting comfortably next to garlic knot monkey bread. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which tracks for a place this fun at this price.

Rank 14. Brooklyn DOP Pizza
NY-Style Pizza
A backyard in Park Slope and a margherita built on proper ingredients make Brooklyn DOP an easy neighborhood slice shop to fall into. The dough is treated with care, the format stays classic New York, and the beverage list is calibrated accordingly. The orange olive oil cake quietly outperforms every other decision you'll make that afternoon. It landed at number six on the 50 Top Pizza Slice USA list, which checks out.

The name nods to the two stones used to grind grain, and the flour-sack-shaped concrete blocks lining the walls suggest nobody here is being subtle about the theme. Save room for dessert, then buy something extra for the walk home.

Rank 19. Fausto
Italian
An open hearth warms the dimly lit room at this upscale Italian restaurant on Flatbush, where the sommelier-restaurateur's wine instincts shape the whole experience as much as the kitchen does. The pasta earns its reputation, and the menu leans into Southern Italian regional cooking without making a fuss about it. Bring a date or a small group; the room was built for exactly that kind of unhurried evening.

The pissaladière, a warm round loaf piled with anchovies and caramelized onions, got a callout from the New York Times, which tells you this Prospect Heights all-day cafe is operating above its pay grade. Coffee and breakfast sandwiches up front give way to a skylit atrium with a small bar, handmade pasta, and refined small plates that shift toward a proper dinner by evening. Contemporary Italian Coffee Shop
The pastry case alone could hold up a line: Italian-style cakes, seasonal danishes, oatmeal cream pies, all housemade. This contemporary Italian coffee shop sits at street level of a Frank Gehry condo on Vanderbilt, which sounds like a setup for a joke, but the place is genuinely warm and busy for good reason. Sweetleaf coffee from Queens, a full kitchen running health-ish and comfort food, and staff who seem to actually mean it when they want you to feel at home.

Contemporary New American
The open kitchen pulls focus the moment you walk into this Carroll Gardens bistro, with its exposed brick, dark blue walls, and brown leather booths. The menu runs contemporary New American with European and South American threads woven through, so expect clean technique alongside the occasional curveball. It reads equally as a date spot or a low-key dinner with friends, which is either versatile or noncommittal, depending on your mood.
-
Rank 33. Sawa
Middle Eastern
Lines form outside before the doors open, which tells you something about this Middle Eastern restaurant in Park Slope. The menu is a deep dive into mezze and grilled meats, with house-made pita arriving hot enough to make the hummus and labneh situation feel urgent. The name means "together" in Arabic, and the room earns it: the energy runs warm and loud, the way a good dinner should.

A former automotive welding shop in East Williamsburg now houses this multi-roaster coffee boutique, where the menu leans into distilled coffee, blue algae, and clarified matcha alongside a hand-brew selection from roasters around the world. Window-service only since 2020, this minimalist coffee shop in South Slope turned its interior into a commissary, which turns out to be a fine trade. Counter Culture beans anchor the drinks, but the daily-rotating pastries, cheddar jalapeño corn muffins, and hugely bready sandwiches are what bring out the line of families and dogs. Greenwood Cemetery is an easy walk, if you need somewhere to eat.

Rank 36. Hungry Thirsty
Southern Thai
The yellow facade on Smith Street belongs to a Southern Thai restaurant that already has people lining up, much as its predecessor in the same space once did. Inside, orange walls and a blue-and-green bar signal that subtlety was never the plan. The kitchen leans into spice and bold regional flavors, with curries, stir-fries, and a fried branzino in fish sauce that tends to stop conversation at the table.

Black tablecloths, candlelight, and a deer skull resting on a bed of lichen: Fredrik Berselius runs a tasting menu restaurant in South Williamsburg that feels less like dinner and more like being guided through a dark forest by something polite but feral. The natural wine list here won a James Beard Award, and the Michelin star belongs to the kitchen, which tells you this Williamsburg bar is doing two things at once and doing neither halfway. The room is famously small and the wait is famously brutal, but Nick Curtola's seasonal menu follows its own logic, landing somewhere between a great wine bar snack and something you'll think about for weeks. Mexican
Carne asada griddled until caramelized and crisp under a snow of Chihuahua cheese is the move at this bright, modern Mexican restaurant in Prospect Heights. Light-flooded windows and a bar lined with stools give it a neighborhood feel, but the cooking leans inventive. The Michelin Guide picked it up with a Bib Gourmand, which tracks. Churros with acacia honey and chocolate atole sauce close things out on exactly the right note.

Rank 40. Corima
Mexican
The sourdough tortillas, made with Sonoran wheat and griddled with chicken fat, have their own New York Times moment, which tells you something about the ambition here. Corima is a fine dining Mexican restaurant on the Lower East Side where chef Fidel Caballero works northern Mexican tradition through a sharp, globe-aware lens. A two-Michelin-starred, AAA Five Diamond counter in Tribeca where the kitchen runs in near silence while the playlist does the opposite. A queer-owned community hub straddling Park Slope and Gowanus, Principles runs on small rotating roasters, plant-based milks across the board, and a gratuity-included model. At this Korean wine bar on Division Street, banchan is the main event, not the preamble. The chef builds a daily set of small plates that sit somewhere between Seoul, Lyon, and Palermo, leeks vinaigrette with Chinese hot mustard, eggplant crushed into something caponata-adjacent. The kitchen is tiny, the room tinier, and the menu stubbornly its own thing. The New York Times placed it among the city's 100 best restaurants.

The open kitchen glows at the center of the room like the whole thing was staged, which it sort of was, by Daniel Rose. This is a proper French fine dining restaurant, unapologetically so, with a Michelin star and a menu that runs to quenelles and sweetbreads without a trace of irony. Fish sourced entirely from Japan and nigiri finished with little more than a brush of nikiri: this is a serious omakase counter tucked behind a cocktail bar on Warren Street. The room runs loud and convivial, the way a good tapas night should, and everything is built for sharing. The wine list leans deep into small Spanish organic and biodynamic producers, which is either very convenient or a very pleasant trap, depending on your evening.

Rank 83. Chavela's
Mexican
The guacamole comes loaded with smoked trout and morita chile salsa, which tells you everything about where Chavela's is headed. This Crown Heights Mexican restaurant earns its Michelin Bib Gourmand behind a wrought-iron door and into a room of vivid tiles and a wall of ceramic butterflies. The cooking leans creative without abandoning the mole that traditionalists came for, and the whole place runs warmer and louder than its Franklin Avenue address might suggest.

Rank 84. Estela
Modern New American
Ignacio Mattos built this downtown bistro on shareable plates that pair ingredients in ways that seem obvious only after you've eaten them. The room on Houston stays lively without tipping into loud, and the wine list rewards a little conversation with whoever's pouring. A Michelin star and a perennial spot on the Times' best-of list haven't made it precious. The crowd dresses like it might have somewhere better to be, then stays for another round.

Rank 85. Crown Shy
Contemporary New American
The Art Deco lobby of 70 Pine Street leads into a dining room with soaring ceilings, marble floors, and windows that make you feel like you're eating inside a postcard. This is Michelin-starred fine dining that doesn't take itself too seriously, with a long bar, an upbeat playlist, and a kitchen running technique-driven Contemporary American cooking that somehow reads as approachable rather than intimidating. The crowd dresses up just enough to feel like they belong.

Rank 86. Superiority Burger
Vegetarian
The quinoa-chickpea-walnut burger that made Brooks Headley famous is still on the menu at this vegetarian burger shop in the East Village, now in a bigger room with vintage diner bones. Nothing here pretends to be meat, which turns out to be the whole point. The Michelin Bib Gourmand and a New York Times top-100 spot follow naturally from cooking that treats bold seasoning and smart texture as the actual job. Save room for dessert; Headley came up as a pastry chef.

Rank 87. Yoshino
Sushi
The hinoki counter was milled from a tree that predates the American Revolution, which sets the tone immediately. Yoshino on the Bowery is a traditional omakase counter from chef Tadashi Yoshida, who left a celebrated restaurant in Japan to open here, and holds a Michelin star. The meal moves through composed cooked courses before settling into Edomae nigiri, with a torched mackerel that arrives over a handheld charcoal grill like a small piece of theater.

Rank 89. Hometown Bar-B-Que
Barbecue
Wood smoke hits you on Van Brunt Street before the warehouse comes into view, which is a useful heads-up to adjust your plans for the rest of the day. This Red Hook BBQ shop runs counter service out of a sprawling industrial space with communal tables, where the brisket has the smoke ring to back up the reputation. The Michelin Bib Gourmand is on record, and the banana pudding tends to disappear fast.

Rank 90. Muku
Japanese
A fourteen-seat counter in Tribeca where the kaiseki menu shifts with the seasons and the soba comes from buckwheat grown near the chef's hometown, which gives the whole thing an unusual personal weight. It holds a Michelin star, and the sake program runs deep enough to occupy a serious collector for the evening. Sharply dressed servers work the room with quiet precision. Wear something nice and clear your night.

Rank 92. Untable
Thai
A menu item called "What the Hell" fried rice comes with twelve chili symbols and delivers on that promise, but this Thai restaurant in Cobble Hill is running a more interesting game than heat. The chef takes familiar flavors and bends them, with a soupless khao soi and a light-bodied green curry paired with grilled chicken and purple rice berry doing the quiet convincing. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the kind of neighborhood spot that's easy to walk past once.
-
Rank 93. Risbo
Rotisserie French
The open-air rotisserie spinning in the front window is the tell: this is an all-day cafe built around Parisian-style spit-roasting, which in Flatbush means roasted chicken marinated for three days alongside bowls, platters, and seasonal grains. The whitewashed walls, cement floors, and a garden patio give it that particular Brooklyn-industrial ease. A good stop before or after Prospect Park, which is right there.
-
Rank 94. Miss Ada
Middle Eastern
A backyard garden in Fort Greene that fills up fast enough to make you wonder if everyone in Brooklyn got the same text. Miss Ada is a Middle Eastern restaurant built around sharing: hummus crowned with lamb shawarma, charred kofta skewers, market salads, and whipped ricotta with honey that blurs the line between course and dessert. The kitchen is reportedly tiny, though nothing on the table suggests it. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and walk-ins can try their luck at the bar.

-
Exposed brick, dim lighting, and vintage New York photography set a mood that a taxidermied dog in a birthday hat quietly undermines. Confidant is a sharing-plates restaurant in Brooklyn Heights with a menu that runs from scallop crudo and trout mousse to dry-aged meats and a prawn pot pie worth leaning across the table for. The Michelin Guide has it selected, and the food takes the whole thing more seriously than the decor lets on.

Rank 99. Bar Miller
Sushi
Bold colors and custom ceramics set the tone at this tiny omakase counter on the Lower East Side, where the whole vibe runs warmer and looser than the austere hush you might expect. The Michelin-starred kitchen leans into North American sourcing, using New York-grown rice and regional fish, with trim and offcuts turned into a house tostada. Local wine, beer, and cider round out a sake list that runs from Brooklyn to Japan.

Rank 100. Chambers
Wine Bar
Pascaline Lepeltier, one of a handful of Master Sommeliers in the world, built the wine list here, and it shows: back vintages, unexpected producers, prices that don't require a quiet moment alone with your bank app. The food runs from composed salads to fresh pasta, all of it seasonal and sharper than the "wine bar snacks" framing might suggest. A James Beard nominee for its beverages program, and sitting at number 29 on the Times' 100 Best list.
