  3. Rank 1603. Parachute HiFi

    Korean Cocktail Bar

Parachute HiFi is a Korean listening bar from the Parachute team, built for people who'd rather hear a record than their own thoughts. Vinyl spins while the menu runs street-food mashups, like a burger drowned in Comté fondue and tteokbokki in a pad Thai situation, alongside cocktails. It's casual and dressy-ish in the way a good record collection is, and it takes reservations but still keeps room for walk-ins.

  4. The chef still works the line most nights, which tells you something about a creative restaurant that's been an Old Town Scottsdale fixture long enough to feel inevitable. Vegetables are taken seriously here, pulled from Arizona farms and steered through a menu that drifts from the Sonoran Desert to the Levant without announcing itself. The wine list leans hard into Arizona producers, and the tucked-away bar is a fine place to work through both.

  6. Boynton Canyon is a Yavapai ancestral site and one of Sedona's famous energy vortexes, which gives Enchantment's setting a charge that the usual "mountain resort" framing doesn't quite cover. Adobe casitas and hacienda suites have private decks and working fireplaces, and a dedicated pool concierge keeps the chaise situation sorted against a backdrop of red rock formations reflected in aquamarine water. The Trail House outfits guests for the 300-plus miles of trail outside the door. Forbes Four Star.

  7. Perched on the Palos Verdes Peninsula with Catalina Island sitting offshore like a postcard prop, this Forbes Four Star coastal resort sits just 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles and manages to feel like another country entirely. Eight restaurants and bars, a sprawling spa with treatment rooms facing the water, kayaking, tide pooling, and falconry keep guests occupied long enough to forget the freeway exists.

  8. Fifty-four acres of north-shore Maui with Pacific views that reach Molokai on a clear day. This Forbes Four Star resort sits inside the larger Kapalua property, which means guests get two championship golf courses, miles of hiking trails, marine sanctuaries, and a tennis garden without ever hitting the tourist scrum down in Lahaina. The three-tier pool and its 20,000-square-foot sundeck handle the days when doing nothing is the whole point.

  9. Dim sum from a chef who treats borders as loose suggestions, set inside a ground-floor office building in Coral Gables that looks like it should house a dentist. The dumplings started as a pop-up and earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard semifinalist nod before finding a permanent home here. The cooking pulls from China, Japan, and Italy in the same breath, and somehow it coheres. A Niman Ranch short rib filling alongside charred cabbage in chili butter will tell you more than any summary.

  11. Rank 1611. Mirra

    Mexican fusion Indian

Dum biryani folded with lamb barbacoa is a reasonable sign that this Bucktown restaurant is not picking a lane between Mexican and Indian, and has no intention of starting. The kitchen weaves the two cuisines into a menu that earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand and an Eater Chefs of the Year nod. Exposed brick, a long banquette, an open kitchen, and a crowd that arrives loud and leaves louder. Share everything.

  12. This is a José Andrés steakhouse inside The Venetian, and the open kitchen is basically a stage for a very large fire. Bone-in wagyu ribeyes get charred there, while the menu also stocks Ibérico ham and an aged-cow beef most steakhouses skip. Caviar comes in single-bite cones, which tells you about the tax bracket. Dress like you're celebrating something, since most tables are.

  13. The 2025 U.S. Brewers Cup champion works the bar here, which tells you something about the coffee before you've tasted it. Helm is a roastery cafe selling small-batch microlots in 100-gram bags, roasted on site and pulled toward clarity over comfort. Gesha varieties, floral aromas, lightly roasted. It's also, somehow, the official coffee sponsor of Gen Con, which means the tabletop gaming crowd found good taste before the coffee crowd found them.

  14. Rank 1614. Mission Pizza Napoletana

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The wood-fired oven sits open to the room in a space that feels more like a late-night bar than a pizza parlor, which tells you something about the crowd. This is a Neapolitan pizza spot with a serious reputation, ranked in the 50 Top Pizza USA and a James Beard semifinalist. The dough is the whole argument here, and the team has been refining it long enough that regulars tend to skip the menu.

  15. Rank 1615. Burnt Bean Co.

    Texas Barbecue

The line forms before the doors open, which has been the rhythm at this Seguin BBQ shop since Ernest Servantes and Dave Kirkland, both decorated in the competition circuit, opened together. The industrial room with iron beams and exposed brick fills fast. Brisket, ribs, and sausage lean toward tender and lightly smoked rather than aggressively bark-forward. A Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard nomination keep the queue honest.

  16. Rank 1615. Pig And Tiger

    Taiwanese

A Taiwanese restaurant in Denver's Capitol Hill where jellyfish and pickled mustard stems show up on the menu but somehow feel like comfort food by the time they reach the table. The cocktails lean into it too, with an Old Fashioned built around rose jam and black tea. Eater named it one of Denver's best restaurants, and Westword gave it Best New Restaurant honors.

  18. A flower-strung alley leads to an order window in East Austin, which is a whole vibe before the coffee even arrives. Mercado Sin Nombre is a Mexican coffee shop built around heirloom corn and specialty coffee, with pastries that take the idea seriously, including a biscuit that takes 100 hours to make. A Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard Outstanding Bakery semifinalist, it keeps the name deliberately small so the farmers doing the work stay front and center.

  19. Original Warhols and Picassos hang in the Gallery Suite, which tells you something about how this 23-story downtown hotel sees itself. The lobby reads as a working gallery, with rotating exhibitions from the Long-Sharp Gallery filling the walls while guests drift between the lobby bar and a Capital Grille. A sixth-floor indoor infinity pool and a spa give you every excuse to ignore the Indiana Repertory Theatre two blocks away.

    The awards

  20. The curving Morris Lapidus facade alone tells you this is the kind of hotel that wants you to notice it. A big, loud Collins Avenue resort with over 1,500 rooms, multiple pools, and a nightclub, LIV, that keeps the lobby moving well past midnight. Bachelorette sashes and convention lanyards coexist peacefully by the pool bar. The Lapis spa offers a quieter counterpoint, with extensive wet areas that feel genuinely removed from the spectacle outside.

  21. Rank 1621. Warda Pâtisserie

    Modern Bakery

Warda Bouguettaya won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Pastry Chef in 2022, and her understated cafe on West Alexandrine is where that makes sense. Warda Pâtisserie is the kind of patisserie where the tarts are architectural and the bread smells like someone actually cares. Bistro seating if you want to linger over a latte, takeaway boxes if you don't. Detroit didn't exactly have a shortage of opinions, but this one is quiet and confident about it.

  23. Rank 1623. Rougarou

    Southern

Southern cooking and a cocktail program that pours buttermilk and benne seed into the glass share equal billing at this casual Five Points restaurant and bar. The chef runs with heirloom grits and collard greens but also hot-and-sour catfish and sorghum-tamarind pork shoulder, so the kitchen respects the tradition without being hostage to it. The team behind the preeminent cocktail bar Yacht Club runs the drinks side, which explains the ambition in a room that looks relaxed about the whole thing.

  27. Rank 1624. Herbsaint

    French-Italian Cajun & Creole

The table by the window on St. Charles is the one to request, and once you're in it you'll understand why this place has been around forever. It's a full-service restaurant where French and Italian instincts run through Cajun and Creole cooking without apology or explanation. The house-made spaghetti fills tables every night, and the duck confit with dirty rice keeps people coming back.

  32. This French wine bar on Columbia Road is spread over several floors of an Adams Morgan brownstone, which means you can pick a level and a mood like you're choosing a streaming tier. The menu is small and made for passing plates, French at heart but wearing a better outfit than your usual bistro. It was a James Beard nominee for Best New Restaurant, and it's an easy yes for date night or a wine-forward catch-up.

  36. Rank 1624. Osteria Ester

    Italian-American Osteria

Gnocco fritto, the puffy Italian fry bread, sets the tone at this Thornton Park osteria: comfort classics with a little attitude. The Italian-American menu runs chicken parm alongside house-made pastas and truffle arancini, all in a room that manages to feel both stylish and genuinely relaxed. A 2025 James Beard nominee for Outstanding Restaurateur, and a Michelin selected spot that draws a neighborhood crowd who treat it like their personal dining room.

  40. Rank 1624. Sparrow

    Spanish

Low plush chairs, patterned tiles, and booths that encourage you to stay another glass make this Downtown Orlando wine bar feel like an evening rather than just dinner. The menu leans Spanish and European, and the chef draws on family recipes for much of it, which gives the food a specificity that generic "European" usually doesn't. 47. Missy Robbins runs an open kitchen inside a former car body shop in East Williamsburg, which tells you something about the bones of the room before a single plate arrives. Lilia is the kind of Italian pasta restaurant where everything is handmade and the mafaldini with pink peppercorns has turned regulars into a kind of informal cult. The New York Times gave it three stars, and a James Beard semifinalist nod followed.

  48. Dave Beran's Santa Monica bistro leans hard into France with no apologies and no asterisks. Wood beams, exposed brick, and white kitchen tile set the scene, and the pressed duck for two is the kind of centerpiece that makes the table next to you lean over and ask what you ordered. The marble bar handles a more casual drop-in just fine, with Champagne and caviar if you're feeling it. A New York Times pick for the city's best.

  49. The meal ends with saltwater taffy tucked into the check, which tells you everything about Greg Vernick's intentions at this sleek seafood restaurant inside the Four Seasons. Terrazzo floors and floating orb fixtures signal expense-account territory, but the menu keeps drifting back to Jersey Shore summers. The branzino, the sardine toast, the ceviche all read serious, and then there's a diner slice from the pastry case waiting at the end.

  50. The broad patio sweeps out from a small turquoise-trimmed adobe inn with the Camelback range as a backdrop, which is doing a lot of work before the food even arrives. Lon's is a white-tablecloth Southwestern restaurant in Paradise Valley, seasonal and quietly inventive, with weekend brunch drawing the kind of crowd that lingers over customizable margaritas and monkey bread loaded with caramel and cream. The bar is serious, the mountain views are free.

  53. A boutique hotel in a downtown Phoenix high-rise, which tells you something about how much the city center has changed lately. Rooms feel pulled together rather than chain-generic, and the location drops you into a neighborhood that has sprouted college campuses and light rail where there used to be very little reason to linger. A good base if you want Phoenix proper rather than a resort bubble somewhere out in the sprawl.

  57. A 32-story tower designed by Chicago firm bKL, Thompson Austin cuts a noticeable line into the downtown skyline just off the East Sixth Street strip. The hotel occupies the lower floors, so you get the address without the altitude, which is fine given what's walkable. Sleek without being cold, it's the kind of place that suits Austin's current chapter better than its old "keep it weird" bumper sticker ever did.

  58. The Art Deco bones of this West Hollywood hotel go back to the golden age, when the apartment tower housed the kind of tenants whose names still sell magazines. The renovation kept the earth-toned, mid-century atmosphere without turning it into a theme park, which is harder than it sounds on the Sunset Strip. Michelin has given it a Key. The guests leaning into the bar look like they have meetings, not autograph books.

  59. The resort is poured into a canyon floor in the Four Corners desert, its low concrete pavilions shaped around a natural rock outcropping so the land stays the main event. Amangiri is a remote luxury resort on 600 acres of Utah scrubland, the kind of place where the silence is the amenity. It holds a spot on the World's 50 Best Hotels list. Slot canyons and mesa views come standard; crowds do not.

  60. The patio looks out over the 18th hole of Torrey Pines Golf Course, which tells you most of what you need to know about the vibe: California-casual with a country-club undercurrent, Craftsman beams and amber lanterns inside. The kitchen leans hard into Southern California's year-round growing season, so the California New American menu shifts with what's actually good. A AAA Four Diamond fine dining restaurant where the dress code is implied but never oppressive.

  62. Caviar arrives on mother-of-pearl spoons, and the potato gets the Robuchon purée treatment, which tells you exactly where you are: a polished French restaurant in an era when that's a rarer breed than it once was. The kitchen still bakes madeleines to order, and for a modest surcharge a waiter will shower Périgord truffles on whatever you're eating. The New York Times named it among Chicago's 25 best restaurants. Dress accordingly.

  63. Views of the Gateway Arch from a good chunk of the rooms set the tone at this luxury hotel sitting right on the Mississippi. The modern building and contemporary interiors read less "chain hotel sameness" than you might expect from a Four Seasons, and the spa and fitness center are suitably extensive. Gerard Craft, a James Beard Award winner, runs Cinder House downstairs, which keeps guests from having to venture far for a serious meal.

  64. The room tiers at this 28-room boutique hotel in downtown Palm Springs are simply Good, Better, and Best, which either signals confidence or a refreshing allergy to hospitality jargon. All rooms come with original artwork and Waterworks bath hardware; Better adds a wet bar, and Best earns mountain views with a private balcony. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key. Midcentury Palm Springs, so pack accordingly: linen and sunscreen.

  66. Nine rooms, suites, and cottages tucked into a Mediterranean Revival estate in Silver Lake that has, over the years, been a silent-film star's mansion, a girls' school, and a Franciscan convent. The interior designer who eventually bought it had a conventional boutique hotel in mind; the building had other plans. It holds a Michelin Key, and the rooms feel less like accommodations than borrowed sets from a film that never got made.

  67. Rank 1694. Katami

    Japanese

The smoked dome arrives at the table before anyone lifts it, which tells you something about the ambition here. This is an upscale Japanese restaurant and sushi bar in Montrose from chef Manabu Horiuchi, and the menu moves between precise nigiri and dishes that are harder to categorize, in the best possible sense. Texas Monthly named it the top new restaurant in the state, and the James Beard Foundation named Horiuchi an Outstanding Chef semifinalist in 2026.

  68. Ivy creeps up the facade of this all-suite boutique hotel one block from the Santa Monica Pier, where every room faces the Pacific and comes stocked with Frette linens, local art, and a minibar that takes itself seriously. The courtyard pool, ringed with lemon trees and James Perse loungers, is the kind of spot that makes you cancel afternoon plans. Sandpiper, the open-air restaurant, leans into California seasonal cooking.

  69. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of Tampa Bay and Amalie Arena from every room in this 27-story hotel, which anchors the Water Street mixed-use development downtown. It's a full-service JW Marriott: modern and warm without tipping into excess, with a spa, resort-style pools, a rooftop bar that climbs high enough to see most of Tampa, and dining options ranging from a street-level window to a proper American bistro beside the pool.

  70. The cocktail menu pays tribute to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, which makes sense given the museum is practically next door. This is a full-service luxury hotel in downtown Cleveland, where housekeepers note which side of the bed you sleep on and leave the water bottle there accordingly. The Club Floor runs food from breakfast through cordials and opens the bar at noon, which is a civilized policy. Pets are welcome, too.

    The awards

  71. Five minutes from Reagan National and steps from the Pentagon City mall, this Ritz-Carlton pulls off the usual trick of making a business-travel corridor feel like somewhere you'd actually want to be. Rooms come with feather beds and Egyptian cotton linens, the club level adds its own quiet remove, and the on-site restaurant, Santé, runs a Mediterranean menu with a fireside lounge good for a post-flight drink.

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
