  1. Rank 1131. Oceans

    Seafood

The raw bar and sushi counter crown the back of the room, which tells you where things are headed before you've sat down. This is polished, seafood-forward fine dining on Park Avenue South, where the sourcing swings local and global and the preparations range from ceviche and towering platters to Japanese-inflected entrées. The Alaskan black cod with sake glaze and yuzu dashi is the kitchen at its most assured. Dress up a little.

  2. Rank 1131. OCTO

    Chinese Fusion Korean

The pork and Thai chili soup dumplings finished with a dot of caviar tell you where this Korean-Chinese fusion restaurant is pitching itself. OCTO runs an à la carte menu built around noodles, rice, and a dedicated dumpling workshop that tends to upstage everything around it. The Peking black duck and the beef tangsuyuk pull regulars back, but the room moves at a lively clip regardless of what anyone orders.

  3. Rank 1131. OKO

    Japanese

The open kitchen anchors the room at this contemporary Asian restaurant in Rye, where the chef treats Japanese cuisine as a jumping-off point rather than a blueprint. Nigiri, handrolls, and tempura share the menu with hot dishes and the kind of creative small bites that make the omakase worth considering. The lofty-ceilinged space draws a lively local crowd, and the bar fills up early. Selected by the Michelin Guide.

  4. Rank 1131. Ops

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

Sourdough Neapolitan pizza in a cozy Bushwick spot where the lighting is dim enough to feel intentional and the wine list is longer than the beer list, which tells you something about the room. The crust is light and genuinely digestible, as opposed to the kind that sits with you on the subway home. Ranked in the 50 Top Pizza USA, if that's the sort thing you track. The veranda is lovely until it isn't.

  5. Rank 1131. Orsay

    Brasserie French

The art nouveau interior on Lexington feels genuinely transplanted from a Parisian side street, which is precisely the point of this French brasserie. The kitchen runs classic without apology: chicken liver mousse, artichaut vinaigrette, profiteroles. The room fills with Upper East Side regulars who know the staff by name and never glance at the menu. Unhurried and polished, it's the kind of brasserie that makes you want to order in courses and stay well past the reasonable hour.

  6. Rank 1131. Osteria 57

    Seafood Italian

A seafood osteria on Sixth Avenue that also happens to be a caffè, bakery, pasta lab, and gelateria, which could easily be a mess but somehow feels like a well-run corner of northern Italy. The kitchen leans on pristine fish and vegetables, with a nod toward Japanese technique that earns its place rather than announcing itself. Raw preparations are a reason to linger, and the wine list keeps markups reasonable. Ranked 34th on 50 Top Italy's list of Italian restaurants worldwide.

  7. Every table at this cozy Campanian trattoria in Westchester starts the same way: a wooden board arrives loaded with caponatina and house-made focaccia before you've ordered a thing. The chef runs a scratch kitchen rooted in southern Italy, with hearty portions and specials worth circling. Finish with the house limoncello and you'll understand why the regulars never really need a menu.

  8. Rank 1131. Oyatte

    Contemporary Korean

A wood-clad lounge downstairs, where guests gather before heading up for the tasting menu, sets the tone at this intimate fine dining spot in Murray Hill. The kitchen leans on a Hudson Valley farm for much of its produce, weaving Korean influences through contemporary technique, fermentation included. Green porridge shows up as a signature, and the desserts tend toward the unexpected. Seasonality is the whole point here, and the menu moves accordingly.

  9. Rank 1131. Papa San

    Nikkei

The menu at this Nikkei restaurant has a section called "best friend" for its sides, which tells you something about the register the kitchen is working in. The team behind Llama Inn brings together Japanese technique and Peruvian flavors, running from small zansai plates and robata-grilled items through donabes and maki. The Hudson Yards lunch crowd fills the room, but the food has a Tokyo-via-Lima logic that holds up past the expense-account hour.

  10. Rank 1131. Patricia's

    Italian

The brick oven is the anchor here, turning out thin-crusted pizzas with just enough char on a Morris Park block that mostly ignores trends. Patricia's is a sit-down Italian restaurant with high ceilings, exposed brick, and a semi-open kitchen that makes the room feel lively without being loud. The wine list leans into obscure Italian varietals, and the cocktails are worth a look before you settle in for something from the sea.

  11. On the 101st floor of Hudson Yards, the dining room at Peak puts lower Manhattan and New Jersey flat on the table beside your bread plate. It's a Contemporary New American restaurant where the kitchen takes the pressure of those views seriously, turning out composed, carefully sourced plates that would hold their own at ground level. Prices climb accordingly. Tourists and deal-makers fill most tables, all angled toward the windows.

  12. Rank 1131. Persepolis

    Persian

Persian restaurant on the Upper East Side with linen-draped tables, wide banquettes, and windows onto Second Avenue that make it feel like dressing up is optional but encouraged. The kitchen leans into fragrant, slow-cooked territory: silky spreads, saffron-tinged kebabs over sour cherry rice, and spiced stews that smell like someone's grandmother is running things. Service is warm, occasionally to a fault.

  13. A white farmhouse with actual working fields out the window sets the scene at this North Salem seafood restaurant, where "farm to table" includes a smokehouse, a curing room, and a farm shop next door. The kitchen grows and preserves much of what it serves, down to the hot sauce and the carrot bread. Cocktails lean into the gardens too. A Michelin Selected restaurant that earns the pastoral postcard without winking at it.

  14. Rank 1131. Pylos

    Greek

Hundreds of terracotta pots hang from the ceiling, which gives this East Village Greek taverna the feel of a pottery barn that got very good at cooking. Whitewashed walls and lapis-blue accents complete the Aegean mood without overdoing it. The menu runs to the kind of home-style food Greeks actually eat, lamb meatballs, baked gigantes, a vegetarian moussaka built on artichokes. The wine list stays close to the homeland.

  15. Rank 1131. Raasa

    Indian

Fine dining Indian in Elmsford, where the menu wanders through regional subcontinents with real intention. The bhel puri is a good opening move, balancing sweet, spicy, and tart the way a street snack should, and the lamb curry finds the same balance at a slower pace. Kulfi falooda does the dessert work, and the mango lassi is the kind of thing you order once and then every time after.

  16. A large red paper clip on the facade is the only sign out front, which sets the tone for a narrow, quietly serious fine-dining room on Christopher Street. The chef's Taiwanese heritage and Queens upbringing shape a seasonal New American menu sourced from local farms, and the kitchen has a light touch that lets produce do the talking. Bring someone you actually want to have a conversation with; the room is that intimate.

  17. Rank 1131. Risbo

    Parisian French

The open-air rotisserie spinning in the front window is the tell: this is an all-day cafe built around Parisian-style spit-roasting, which in Flatbush means roasted chicken marinated for three days alongside bowls, platters, and seasonal grains. The whitewashed walls, cement floors, and a garden patio give it that particular Brooklyn-industrial ease. A good stop before or after Prospect Park, which is right there.

  18. Roberta's slice shop in the Penn District finishes each slice after the oven, adding basil, chili oil, or honey depending on what you ordered, which sounds fussy until you see how well it works. The long communal table inside spills out to Penn Plaza and connects up to a rooftop, so the format is grab-and-go but the footprint is not. The Bee Sting, with soppressata and honey, is the one regulars seem to circle back to.

  19. The name nods to the two stones used to grind grain, and the flour-sack-shaped concrete blocks lining the walls suggest nobody here is being subtle about the theme. This Brooklyn bakery-restaurant splits its menu between sandwiches and salads, with the bread doing most of the talking. A Per Se alum runs the bakery side, which shows. Save room for dessert, then buy something extra for the walk home.

  20. Squeezed into a narrow Clinton Street storefront, Saint Julivert is a coastal wine bar where seafood does most of the talking and the small-producer wine list does the listening. The kitchen runs on a coastal imagination that drifts from tempura squash to Ibérico pork without losing the thread. Cobble Hill regulars who know to book early fill the room most nights. 22. Rank 1131. Secchu Yokota

    Tempura Japanese

A tempura omakase on the Lower East Side where the chef trained in French kitchens and uses mostly Japanese-sourced ingredients, which sounds like a concept pitch but unfolds as something quietly focused. The batter is sheer, the shrimp and anago are treated like they cost what they cost, and the meal opens and closes with dishes that have nothing to do with tempura. Small room, loyal regulars, not much signage.

  23. Rank 1131. Seis Vecinos

    Central American Mexican

A sunny corner restaurant at the base of a grand Bronx building, Seis Vecinos pulls from El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico without trying to smooth everything into a unified thesis. Papusas, baleadas, and enchiladas share the menu without apology. The guacamole arrives in a molcajete and gets finished at the table, which is exactly the right way to start. The staff is warm and the room follows suit.

  24. Warehouse floors, gunmetal grey walls, and neon accents give this Koreatown restaurant the feel of an arcade that grew up and got a liquor license. It comes from the group behind Atomix, though the vibe here runs considerably looser: Korean rice cakes meet stracciatella, mala pork belly arrives looking puzzling and tasting great, and the bar pairs peanut butter cachaça with passionfruit like it's obvious.

  25. Ten seats at a counter in LES, where a shabu shabu omakase runs at whatever pace you set. The team swishes prime pork belly and A5 wagyu through boiling broth before finishing each piece in sweet soy, ponzu, or miso, and the volume of wagyu is such that you'd expect to feel pinned down by it, yet the lighter pairings keep everything moving. Spanish and Italian touches appear occasionally, and somehow they fit.

  27. The signature pancake, a single skillet-sized round finished with hazelnut-maple praline and brown butter, is reason enough to plan a Saturday night around getting here Sunday morning. This all-day Williamsburg spot runs two floors with very different personalities: a rustic bar downstairs and a palm-dotted, whitewashed dining room above. 28. Twelve seats along the Upper East Side, with a chef who trained at Masa and Sushi Nakazawa before opening her own room. Sushi Akira runs an 18-course omakase at a price point that won't require a second mortgage, moving through chilled appetizers, nigiri, and dessert in a calm, unhurried sequence. An L-shaped counter wraps around the chef at this modest sushiya in SoHo, where an omakase at a price that won't require a sit-down conversation with your accountant moves through a long parade of nigiri and small courses. 36. The restaurant sits on the 42nd and 43rd floors, which tells you something about this hotel's ambitions. The Opus Westchester is a sleek, modernist tower in White Plains that reads more Midtown Manhattan than Hudson Valley commuter town, which is presumably the point. Views stretch across Long Island Sound and back toward the New York skyline. The spa has an indoor pool and a lounge deck for when the views stop being enough.

  37. Rank 1131. Tong

The first question your server asks is how you feel about heat, and you should answer carefully. This sleek Bushwick Thai restaurant occupies a concrete-and-metal warehouse space dressed up with gold accents, where the menu of small sharing plates builds around chilies that show up in every corner. The khao soi has its regulars, and the crispy rice with fermented pork sausage is the kind of thing people order twice.

Hotel Nyack leans hard into the urban-getaway-that-doesn't-pretend-to-be-a-farmhouse lane: loft-style rooms, a steakhouse downstairs, and enough city comfort to make you forget you crossed the Tappan Zee. For New Yorkers who want the river without the apple-picking energy.

  61. A wood-fired pizzeria on Mulberry Street where the margherita is the argument: light, airy dough with a properly blistered crust and ingredients that don't try to do too much. The room runs contemporary and lively, and on mild nights the outdoor patio makes the whole thing feel like a small favor from the city. The wine list is surprisingly deep for a pizza spot. Save room for the montebianco.

  66. Five acres in Amagansett, which sits just past East Hampton for those who find East Hampton a little much. The Reform Club is a small luxury inn where the smallest room in the main house is a suite, cottages offer more seclusion, and a four-bedroom residence handles groups wanting to pretend they live here. Bvlgari amenities, owners' artwork on the walls, Pilates on the schedule. The Meeting House feeds guests and locals alike, which keeps it from feeling sealed off.

    The awards

  67. A barn and a cluster of 17th and 18th century cottages, beautifully preserved outside and quietly gutted into something minimalist and linen-forward within. This small hotel sits a mile inland from the beach on two pastoral acres, which makes it the anti-Hamptons Hamptons option, no oceanfront scene to perform for. Frette sheets, Matouk towels, Nespresso on the counter, old bones with a very considered interior. The Michelin Guide lists it among its selected hotels.

  68. Sagaponack is the Hamptons village that people in the know prefer precisely because it isn't a scene. This freshly renovated resort spreads across seven acres with 30 rooms ranging from detached bungalows with kitchenettes to suites, all done in white, navy, and sage. Beach passes, stocked lockers, and a pantry stocked with morning pastries to ice cream handle the logistics so you don't have to. Long Island's best beaches are close enough to walk.

The poached chicken arrives slippery and silky, its fat shocked into a jelly under the skin, but the fragrant rice cooked in chicken broth is what keeps Singaporeans texting each other excitedly. This is a no-frills chicken rice shop on Ninth Avenue doing a very specific thing very carefully, rooted in a family recipe that traces back to a legendary Singapore original. The New York Times named it among the 100 best restaurants in the city.

  81. Rank 1273. Brandy Library

    Cocktail Bar

Floor-to-ceiling shelves lined with bottles replace the books here, and the ladders are real. This TriBeCa spirits bar has made brandy its organizing principle, stocking vintage Armagnacs, Cognacs, and plum brandies from corners of the world most bars have never considered. Whisky and rum fill the gaps, the cocktail list runs a hundred drinks deep, and the staff who climb those ladders to fetch your bottle know exactly what they're doing.

  88. Shiplap walls, tapestries over the beds, and a vibe that reads surf hippie without trying too hard. This Montauk motel has been in the Daunt family for generations, and it wears that history lightly, skewing more beach-cottage cool than anything the word "motel" usually promises. Sandy feet are the dress code, the on-site restaurant The Bird has been here forever, and the Michelin Guide has taken notice of the whole operation.

  89. The original Dear Irving on Irving Place is a cocktail bar that commits hard to the speakeasy aesthetic, complete with dim lighting, velvet, and the sense that someone might ask for a password. The menu roams across classics, seasonal builds, and aperitivo riffs, so there's always a reason to linger past the first round. A Spirited Awards Regional Honoree, it draws a dressed-up crowd that takes its evening seriously without taking itself too seriously.

  90. Rank 1273. Echo Lake

    Rum Cocktail Bar

The $12 daily daiquiri sets the tone at this Williamsburg rum bar, where the menu runs from a lager-and-rum shot combo to oysters with tepache mignonette. The couple behind it know their way around spirits, one having run the editorial side of Punch, the other having shaped Chicago's beloved tropical bar scene. A basement rum bar called Undercurrent adds another layer for anyone who shows up and doesn't want to leave.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
