The Best Places in the United States

  1. Perched on a bluff above Watch Hill with the Atlantic laid out below, Ocean House is a Victorian resort that feels like someone's very grand great-aunt never quite let go of the Gilded Age, and you're glad she didn't. Croquet lawns, a private beach, and rooms done in a quietly luxurious register that earns its Forbes Five Star without announcing it at every turn. Open year-round, which the old summer-colony crowd never managed.

    The awards

  2. A cocktail bar on Portland's tourist-heavy Wharf Street that opened with a stated mission to make the block worth visiting. The drinks lean on reworked classics, with hot dogs and bar snacks to keep things honest. The $28 Flaming Scorpion Bowl arrives in a blaze of mild chaos, which tells you the room doesn't take itself too seriously. Punch named it one of the best new bars in the country, and Esquire flagged its espresso martini among the best in America.

  3. Pandan waffles and fish sauce bacon on the same menu sounds like a dare, but this counter-service Vietnamese brunch spot on Alberta Street pulls it off without a second thought. Rice bowls, breakfast burritos, and rotating pastries like matcha cinnamon rolls round out a menu that treats Vietnamese American cooking as brunch's natural home. The Vietnamese iced egg coffee reads as dessert and caffeine simultaneously, which covers two needs at once.

  4. Stone pathways wind through lush gardens on a clifftop bluff above Laguna Beach, which sets the tone for this full-service luxury resort. The Arts and Crafts movement is the organizing inspiration, and original works from that era share walls with contemporary pieces throughout. Rooms and bungalows have private balconies with ocean views, fire pits burn at dusk, and the pool sits improbably blue below the Pacific sky. It holds a Forbes Five Star and two Michelin Keys.

  5. The brass footrest running the length of the bar sets the tone: this is a proper neighborhood tavern in Red Hook, the kind with exposed brick, floral wallpaper, and candles wedged between wine bottles on tight-packed tables. The menu is short and the cooking leans classic, which is a polite way of saying the dry-aged cheeseburger with cottage fries is not something you'll talk yourself out of. A James Beard Semifinalist for Outstanding Hospitality.

  6. Rank 806. NightBloom

    Cocktail Bar

NightBloom is a late-night cocktail bar on St. Claude, run by the Bacchanal team, and the lighting is a coral glow flattering enough that you may forget you came to drink. The menu runs from an olive salad martini to a smoky pineapple margarita, and the bartenders will talk playlists with you. Some nights there are dance parties or custom nail art, and a dog may adopt your table. Eater named it Best New Bar.

  7. Rank 807. Chandelier Bar

    Cajun & Creole Cocktail Bar

Chandelier Bar is the glamorous hotel lobby bar at the foot of Canal Street, all marble, crystal, and gold fittings, with a chandelier big enough to have lent its name and its crystal to the martini glass. Cognac shows up in the cocktails, including a fortified sazerac, and the bartenders are nicer than the surroundings strictly require. The potato chips arrive free, so dinner can technically be skipped.

  8. The menu at this Mystic restaurant is organized by port of call, so any given dish might trace itself to Casablanca, Shanghai, or, improbably, landlocked Torrington, Connecticut. The beef empanadas, a James Beard-nominated Outstanding Chef nominee's childhood recipe, arrive with a tender homemade crust and ground beef from a nearby farm, made juicy with sofrito, olives, and American cheese. The NYT named them among the best dishes eaten across the country in 2024.

  9. Rank 809. Xiao Bao

    Pan-Asian

A diner-style Asian restaurant where a giant strawberry guards the door sets the tone for everything inside: Formica tabletops, red velvet couches, and a menu that bounces between hand-pulled noodles topped with brisket and a la zi spiced smash burger on a bao bun with beef fat fries. The retro fever-dream aesthetic is very much the point. The New York Times named it among Nashville's 25 best restaurants.

  11. The line down the block on weekends is a reliable feature, and so is the sign that says they've sold out early. Radio Bakery is a small Greenpoint spot where croissants get shaped like Danishes and filled with whatever's good that month, focaccia sandwiches come stuffed with smoked salmon and cream cheese, and the brown butter corn cake is the thing to grab for later. Frustrating in all the right ways.

  14. Hotel rooms here come with a catch: booking one makes you a temporary member of the private club downstairs, which is otherwise invite-only. The Battery is a boutique hotel tucked inside that members' club, with 14 suites done in a dark, bohemian register that owes more to a Victorian drawing room than a startup off-site. Michelin awarded it 2 Keys.

  16. A bright blue facade on a block of red brick Tribeca warehouses is one way to introduce yourself. This Firmdale hotel, part of designer Kit Kemp's signature London-meets-New York family of properties, leans into the collision of country-house comfort and city energy, lots of bold color, and a cozy-glamorous atmosphere that somehow holds together without tipping into theme park. The Michelin Guide awarded it two Keys.

  17. Rank 817. Fives

    Upscale Cajun & Creole

Absinthe fountains line the curved bar at this jewel-box cocktail bar steps from St. Louis Cathedral in the Lower Pontalba Building. Oysters and caviar share menu space with a martini that landed on Esquire's national list, and a vintage chandelier keeps the whole room at a glow. It opens at eleven in the morning and closes at ten, the upstairs neighbors having apparently drawn a firm line.

  19. The shucker in a blue apron working the window display is a fixture at this North End seafood spot, where oysters rest on crushed ice behind the glass like a slow-motion invitation. Inside, mosaic tile, white marble, and red leather banquette make a narrow room feel considered rather than cramped. The day's oysters are listed on a small card; the wine list leans European coastal. The New York Times put it on their restaurant list, and the line outside most nights explains why.

  20. D'Andrews is a bakery and cafe on Church Street where the pastry case looks like a jewelry counter that took up baking. There are mousse desserts shaped like fruit, a chocolate cube wearing a white chocolate feather and a bit of gold leaf, and croissants that appear to have nothing to prove. It was a James Beard Outstanding Bakery semifinalist. Expect a line, a lot of phones out first, and forks only afterward.

  21. The pancakes at this Lower East Side diner are available until closing time, which tells you everything about where chef Sam Yoo's priorities lie. The room is full Formica-and-chrome diner, but the menu quietly goes sideways: a Reuben folded into a quesadilla, a wedge salad hit with chile crisp. It lands on both the Times and Eater lists of New York's top restaurants, which for a place serving breakfast all day feels like a flex.

  22. Rank 822. Commander's Palace

    Cajun & Creole

The turquoise Garden District mansion has been turning out Modern New Orleans Creole since Ella Brennan and a young Emeril Lagasse were essentially inventing the genre together. Fine dining in the grand sense, white tablecloths and all, though the room skews festive rather than stiff. Meg Bickford runs the kitchen now, keeping the cooking by turns classicist and a little bodacious. Wine Enthusiast put the cellar in its Hall of Fame, and the weekday lunch martinis go for a quarter.

  23. A modern tower right on the edge of Boston Common, which means the park views from the upper floors are the kind that make you forget you're in a business hotel. The Rockwell Group interiors lean into contemporary luxury rather than Old Boston stuffiness, and the rooms are plush without being fussy. The theater district is essentially at the front door, though the Avery Bar gives you a convincing reason to stay put. A Forbes Four Star property.

  24. A Nashville bakery-cafe in 12 South where the cinnamon cookies come roughly the size of a salad plate and the churro croissants are filled with dulce de leche cream. The fast-casual counter up front handles the pastry situation; the cafe in back does soft scrambled eggs with chili crunch and lattes for anyone who secures a seat. Midcentury-sunny room, long lines of people who planned ahead, and beignets that won Nashville Scene's city-wide vote.

  26. Rank 826. Mindy’s Bakery

    Rustic Bakery

Mindy's is a Wicker Park bakery where the menu shifts often enough to keep regulars guessing, running from donuts to pot pies, with the occasional turnover stuffed with mortadella and giardiniera. The bagels get plenty of attention too. The room is tiny and there are only a couple of window seats, so most people end up eating in the car, which is fine, since crumbs are cheaper to vacuum than to explain.

  27. Rank 827. Too Soon

    Cocktail Bar

Pink and purple neon sets the mood at this intimate cocktail bar, which leans hard into '80s New York nostalgia. Your drink arrives in whatever ceramic vessel the bartender feels like, a bunny, a donut with a handle, something stranger. The menu spans highballs, zero-proof options, and signatures like a blue cheese martini, but the real move is handing the bartender your preferences and letting them pull from a catalog of a thousand recipes.

  28. Rust-colored casitas tucked into Boynton Canyon, with red rock formations close enough to feel like they're listening. Mii amo is a destination spa resort, the kind where you check in for several nights and leave having done a reflexology path and reconsidered your entire morning routine. A Forbes Five Star property, it pairs serious wellness programming with 23 rooms and suites, a movement studio, and a sensory garden that makes the word "garden" feel inadequate.

  30. Rank 831. Noodle in a Haystack

    Modern Ramen Shop

A ramen omakase in the Richmond where the noodle is the main character, not a supporting act. The team built their name through pop-ups and global competitions before landing in this small corner space, and the tasting menu shows the range, broths that shift from delicate to deeply rich across several courses. It runs at a fine-dining pace and price, so dress one notch up from your usual bowl-of-ramen energy.

  31. One of the Gilded Age mansions lining Newport's Cliff Walk, this small luxury hotel holds a Forbes Five Star and a Michelin two-key distinction. No two rooms share a period: Tudor, Georgian, and Renaissance suites each come with a fireplace, most with a Jacuzzi, and some with ocean views dramatic enough to justify the whole trip. Two restaurants, one fine-dining and one slightly looser, pull in locals alongside guests.

    The awards

  32. Sixteen manicured acres and views of the Santa Cruz Mountains make it easy to forget you're minutes from the Google campus, which is probably the point. This Forbes Five Star resort hotel on Sand Hill Road runs a sprawling pool deck, a full Sense spa, and rooms with vaulted ceilings that lean urbane rather than rustic. The suites and villas are firmly in tech-baron territory, comfort-wise, but the setting is serene enough that nobody's talking about valuations by the pool.

  33. The Jucy Lucy, spelled without the "i" and stuffed with molten cheese between two beef patties, is the whole reason Matt's Bar exists and possibly the whole reason Minneapolis exists. This divey neighborhood bar on Cedar Avenue has been doing exactly one thing forever, and the pleather booths and unadorned bar haven't changed to accommodate anyone, including a former president who stopped in. Order the burger, wait for the cheese to cool slightly, and learn from whoever's nearby why the spelling matters.

  34. Five rooms in downtown Healdsburg, each stocked with the kind of comforts that make you forget you ever owned a house. This boutique inn is the work of chef Kyle Connaughton and his wife Katina, whose farm supplies the kitchen downstairs. The modern-classic rooms come with an extravagant breakfast, and guests get preferential access to the three-Michelin-starred restaurant below, though advance planning is still required. Michelin awarded it 3 Keys.

  38. A steakhouse in Ketchum that's been feeding ski bums and ranch hands since the 1940s, and the decor has not been asked to change. It holds a James Beard America's Classics award for the Mountain region. The famous order is the Jim Spud, a baked russet roughly the size of a toddler's head, piled with teriyaki beef and cheese, listed as an appetizer by someone with a sense of humor. Plan to split it or pack leftovers.

  39. Rank 840. True Laurel

    Cocktail Bar

The custom-designed everything, down to the furniture, signals that True Laurel takes itself seriously, which would be more insufferable if the drinks weren't so good. This cocktail bar and restaurant from the Lazy Bear team lands at number 14 on North America's 50 Best Bars list. Small plates rotate with the seasons, and the bar program is tight, inventive, and the clear reason most people show up.

  43. The line stretching down the block in North Beach is not a fluke. Butter & Crumble is a pastry and cake shop that built its name on laminated dough, and the croissants are the draw, from a plain version so flaky it barely holds together to cruffins stuffed with seasonal cream. Options rotate often enough that regulars have a reason to come back, which they do, loyally, before the case sells out. A few bar seats exist, but this is a takeout operation at heart.

  44. The sourdough, pasta, and pizza all come from a dedicated production area you can see from the dining room, which tells you something about how seriously this Arts District Italian restaurant takes the basics. Dark walls, vintage silver trays, and a big welcoming U-shaped wood bar give it a rustic warmth that feels nothing like the Strip. 46. Wide-plank walnut floors, hand-painted wildlife murals on the staircases, and limestone fireplaces big enough to stand in announce that this is a different order of Lowcountry resort. The Sanctuary sits on a barrier island inside a private gated community, with ocean-view rooms done in coastal colonial style and a Grand Lawn that rolls straight to the beach. It holds a Forbes Five Star, and the staff make the hospitality feel less like a script and more like a favor.

  47. There's no sign, just a pink door off Post Alley, and the whole place operates on that same logic: swings hang from the ceiling, silk drapes overhead, murals cover the walls. 48. The Post District address puts it a block from Pioneer Park, which tells you something about how Salt Lake City has been changing. Urban Hill is an upscale, globally inspired restaurant anchored in Utah-sourced produce, meat, and dairy, with a kitchen that takes both seriously. The chef earned a 2026 James Beard nomination for Best Chef: Mountain, and Wine Enthusiast named it a Forward 50 restaurant in 2024. The room reads like somewhere you'd actually dress for.

  49. Rank 853. ViceVersa

    Neapolitan Italian Cocktail Bar

Dark green walls, framed art, and a room that somehow feels like midnight at noon, ViceVersa is a Neapolitan pizza and cocktail bar tucked just off the lobby of the Elser Hotel. The thin-crust pies are the anchor, but the bar program is the real argument for staying. The affogato martini landed on Esquire's radar, and the place sits on North America's 50 Best Bars list. The lemon-ricotta silver dollar pancakes here have a following that generates a line down the block most weekend mornings, which tells you everything about what kind of brunch spot Plow is. It's a casual, easygoing neighborhood place in Potrero Hill with a tight, unfussy menu built around a few things done carefully. 52. Eighty-five rooms and suites spread across low-slung buildings among actual working vineyards in Calistoga, so the wine country backdrop isn't decorative. The style is modernist with a farmhouse lean, the spa has an outdoor garden, and bikes sit ready for anyone who wants to feel virtuous between meals. The on-site fine dining restaurant, Auro, holds a Michelin star. The resort also holds a Forbes Five Star.

  53. The baguettes go fast, so regulars grab two. Evergreen is a bakery and butcher shop in Inman Park where naturally leavened bread shares the counter with whole-animal cuts, and the combination makes more sense than it sounds. The vollkornbrot is dense and serious, the croissants are not, and the fermented hamburger buns exist specifically to cradle the beef ground in back. Atlanta was not a bread town; Evergreen is doing something about that.

  56. A wood-fired brick oven anchors this sprawling bakery and cafe in the Mission, where the bread alone draws a line out the door most mornings. The Scandinavian-influenced dining room is airy enough that waiting feels less painful than it sounds. Coffee beans are roasted in-house, pastries lean contemporary, and the sourdough loaves are the kind people carry home on planes. Go for breakfast or lunch and plan to leave with a bag of something.

  57. Rank 861. Odd Duck

A food truck that grew up and got a roof, Odd Duck on South Lamar is a casual, come-as-you-are restaurant built around shareable Southern plates with a roving global curiosity. Chicken heart satay sits near wagyu burgers and stuffed quail with dirty rice, and nobody seems troubled by the range. 60. The skylight in the lobby dates to the 1920s, hidden until a renovation uncovered it. The Jefferson is a luxury hotel two blocks from the White House, decorated throughout as a quiet monument to its namesake: custom furniture based on Monticello originals, framed maps of places the third president loved, rooms with his words on the walls. The staff can hold a proper conversation about all of it. The Michelin Guide awarded it 2 Keys.

  61. A bare-bones counter-service tortilleria in South Phoenix, the kind of place where the building has never once tried to impress you. The flour tortillas are the draw, soft but sturdy with a flaky edge, wrapped around machaca, eggs, and potatoes for under ten dollars. The move is dumping the smooth tomato salsa inside the burrito rather than treating it like a dip, which the regulars figured out decades ago.

  62. Rank 867. Baroo

    Korean

Seats at the chef's counter let you watch the whole operation unfold at this sleek DTLA tasting menu spot from the husband-and-wife team behind it. The look is concrete floors and black-and-white walls, the format is modern Korean, and the pairings run alcoholic or not. The Los Angeles Times ranked it third on their list of the city's best restaurants in 2025, and the James Beard Foundation nominated the chef for Best Chef: California.

  63. Anthony Mangieri runs the wood-burning oven himself, every service, at this airy Lower East Side pizza shop tiled in black and white and lined with canned tomatoes. The Neapolitan pies come out with fluffy edges and thin, papery crusts, topped with not much more than mozzarella di bufala and sweet tomato sauce, which is the whole point. A Michelin Bib Gourmand and ranked first in the country by 50 Top Pizza USA. Reservations are scarce, so arrive early and queue.

  64. Rank 870. Gatlin’s BBQ

    East Texas Barbecue

East Texas-style barbecue joint that also does breakfast, which tells you something about how seriously Houston takes its mornings. The smoker runs through brisket, ribs, sausage, turkey, and chicken, and the sides, dirty rice and baked beans among them, hold their own. The chef was a James Beard semifinalist in 2023. Been a neighborhood staple long enough that ordering without looking at the menu is a point of local pride.

  65. The antojitos here lean into Aztec culinary tradition that most Mexican restaurants skip entirely, which gives this Logan Square neighborhood spot a menu worth reading slowly. The chef has earned James Beard nominations and a Michelin Bib Gourmand while running what is, at its heart, a warm, unpretentious antojeria. Seasonal cocktails, knowledgeable servers, and a room that stays lively without tipping into loud.

  67. Iron four-poster beds and colonial furnishings fill a building that was, not so long ago, a saddlery. The Mokara is a boutique hotel on the River Walk with a Forbes Four Star rating, a rooftop pool overlooking the water, and a spa serious enough to count as a destination on its own. Ostra, the in-house restaurant, leans into international seafood. A compact, well-appointed stay for people who find the big chain hotels depressing.

  68. A Beaux Arts landmark on Broadway that has been putting San Diego on notice since long before San Diego had a scene. The US Grant is a grand downtown hotel with high ceilings, burnished wood, and the quiet authority of a building that has never felt the need to explain itself. Forbes Four Star. Convention crowds and weekend arrivals fill the lobby, but the place absorbs them without breaking a sweat.

  69. Rank 876. Gemini × Happy Ice Cream

    Mediterranean Italian

A cave à manger on 17th Street where you order at a counter, find somewhere to stand, and immediately wish there were chairs. The menu is Mediterranean-Italian, the wine selection leans natural, and the kitchen behind it all has DNA from Komi, the couple's storied tasting room. Griddled pita and olives are constants; a Japanese sweet potato with koji butter somehow fits right in. The ice cream flavors, polenta-cassis among them, suggest nobody here makes easy choices.

  70. The electric pink neon sign is your landmark, and the shareable platters are the reason you came. This Sonoran taqueria from James Beard Award winner Rene Andrade runs on big, festive plates of ribeye or carnitas surrounded by beans, elote, and salsas, all meant to be wrapped into soft tortillas at the table. The cocktail program runs wilder than you'd expect from a taqueria. Bring people; the portions assume you did.

  71. Each month brings a single fixed menu, two entrée choices, no walk-ins, and reservations that open on Tock a few days before the month turns, so planning ahead is part of the ritual. Spencer is a neighborhood wine restaurant with family-style seating that reads less like a dining room and more like someone's very well-stocked kitchen. The wine list is a James Beard Nominee for Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program, and it earns the attention.

  72. Red-brick facade, wrought-iron balconies, mosaic tilework, and the Pacific about twenty feet away: Casa del Mar is a grand beachfront hotel in Santa Monica that has been drawing California's well-heeled to the sand since the Roaring Twenties. The eight-story property holds restaurants, a spa, and an outdoor pool overlooking the waves, plus a beach concierge who can sort you a surfboard. It holds a Michelin Key and a Forbes Four Star, in case the ocean view left any doubt.

  73. Shutters on the Beach is a luxury hotel sitting right on the Santa Monica sand, designed by Obama White House decorator Michael S. Smith in a style that mixes California ease with a little Northeast polish. Hockney and Oldenburg hang on the walls, fireplaces anchor the cozy corners, and the sea air follows you through the lobby. It holds a Forbes Four Star and a Michelin Key, and the crowd that books it tends to already know that.

  74. Kristi Brown's modern soul food restaurant on Capitol Hill runs on a certain gravitational pull, the kind where strangers at the bar invite you to art openings and the neck-bone stew, all smoky shredded meat and tender lima beans in a deep broth, makes conversation stop mid-sentence. The menu rotates seasonally, landing on catfish and grits or local clams in coconut milk depending on when you show up. A James Beard nominee, and on the New York Times radar too.

  75. The Tavern is a downtown Tulsa pub built around a two-handed burger of short rib, chuck, and brisket, wearing stilton, a cognac-mushroom cream, and a challah bun like it's dressing for a wedding. The recipe hasn't changed in ages, and the neighborhood's dining scene more or less grew up around it. Expect pub prices, napkins in bulk, and a restaurateur nod from the James Beard semifinalists.

  77. Rank 885. Partenope Ristorante

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The dough here is made by hand in the Neapolitan tradition, soft enough that a margherita lands on the table looking almost too relaxed to be pizza. Partenope is a full-sit-down Italian restaurant on Main Street, the kind of place that takes its time with both the pasta and the service. It landed on 50 Top Pizza USA, which for Dallas is a meaningful data point. The room feels warm rather than scene-y, which in this city counts for something.

  78. A neon green peace sign marks the door on a narrow Fishtown lane, and inside what used to look like an auto repair shop, the room opens into light wood and clean lines, somewhere between a pizza bar and a Scandinavian chapel. The menu is short, the dough is organic, and the crust stays crisp and chewy to the last bite. Natural wines and snacks keep you busy while you wait. A Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  80. Bare wood farm tables, whitewashed brick, and a risotto cacio e pepe that regulars will happily order twice: Via Carota is a West Village Italian restaurant where the room feels like a farmhouse and the cooking feels like someone's very talented relative took over the kitchen. Reservations go fast, so plan ahead. The James Beard Awards named it an Outstanding Restaurant Semifinalist, and the lines outside suggest most of the neighborhood agrees.

  82. This Lower East Side ramen shop is built around tsukemen, where thick cold noodles come alongside a hot, bonito-heavy broth and you dip them yourself like a person with a plan. The line out the door moves fast, and the people in it start swapping bowl reviews with strangers before they've sat down. If dipping feels like too much work, the milky tonkotsu-style ramen is right there. It's cheap, casual, and shows up on the New York Times 100 list.

  84. Bar-Bill is a wing tavern in the postcard village of East Aurora, where the sauce goes on with an actual paintbrush, which sounds like a bit until you see how evenly everything gets coated. It's a casual, paper-towel kind of room, the sort where locals argue about the cajun honey butter BBQ versus the hot. Josh Allen once put away 40 wings here in a single sitting, so consider your own order a modest one.

  85. The line out the door at 5 p.m. is not a fluke; it's people waiting on the country loaf that Chad Robertson and Elisabeth Prueitt pull from the oven each afternoon. This Mission District bakery and cafe has been rewriting the rules on sourdough since forever, and the morning buns and cream tarts move fast enough that showing up early is less a suggestion than a strategy.

  87. The menu credits local farmers by name, which tells you what kind of small-plates restaurant this is before the food even arrives. Reclaimed wood, subway tile, and a patio backed by a bold flower mural set the room; the kitchen turns whatever's in season into inventive rustic-American plates that change often enough to reward repeat visits. The chef was a James Beard nominee for Best Chef: Great Lakes in 2023.

  88. Rank 896. Claud

    French

A few steps below street level on East Tenth, this French-inflected New American restaurant runs on shared plates and an open kitchen that keeps the room honest. The cooking touches the familiar at a slant: grilled cabbage, tempura squash blossoms, and a six-layer chocolate cake soaked in vermouth and evaporated milk that nominally serves two. The New York Times placed it fifteenth on its list of the city's hundred best. Reservations are a project, but the bar absorbs the overflow gracefully.

  89. Sfincione is Sicilian street food, something between focaccia and pizza, and this focacceria in the Gulch has built its entire identity around it. The dough gets folded in an open kitchen, then topped with fontina, breadcrumbs, and pecorino before rotating varieties like roasted potato cream or spicy tomato with burrata take over. The menu is short by design. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and Esquire named it among the best new restaurants in America in 2024.

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
