  1. Rank 1401. Jackrabbit Filly

    Contemporary Chinese-American

Lacquer walls and deep-red booths give Jackrabbit Filly the feel of a Chinese-American restaurant your parents loved, except the chef behind the counter was a Top Chef finalist. The menu runs New American Chinese and shareable, from dumplings to cornmeal-crusted trout, with frozen drinks for anyone who needs something festive alongside the spice. North Charleston, which has quietly become the more interesting half of the metro.

  3. Rank 1403. Tei-An

    Japanese Noodle Shop

The house-made soba is the point here, though the menu at this elegant soba house in the Arts District runs wide enough to spark a real argument about what to order. Cold or hot noodles arrive with seasonal toppings that range from strictly traditional to a Bolognese that has no business working as well as it does. Grilled freshwater eel comes with its crisped spine, exactly as it would in Japan. The Michelin Guide has it listed among its selected restaurants in Dallas.

  5. Mochi crullers coated in coconut caramel and purple ube brioche doughnuts tell you quickly what kind of bakery this is. Rosie Nguyen draws on Vietnamese heritage and a restless pastry imagination to fill the Woodley Park counter with things you won't find anywhere obvious nearby. The space is roomier than you might expect, and weekend slots go fast enough that advance ordering is the move.

  6. Okàn is a sunny, window-lined dining room in Bluffton where West African, Caribbean, and Lowcountry cooking share a menu without anyone fighting over it. Banquettes are cushy, local art covers the walls, and a big bar sits dead center like it's running the place. Portions run generous and meant for passing around a table. The chef was a James Beard Emerging Chef semifinalist, and the Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand.

  7. Rank 1408. Candente

    Tex-Mex

The fajitas arrive on a sizzling cast-iron skillet, prime Niman Ranch beef with charred onions and tortillas made from brisket trimmings, which tells you everything about how this Tex-Mex restaurant operates. From the team behind the Pit Room next door, Candente is enormous, patio and all, and the kitchen swings for the scale. Weekend brunch turns into a full production. The Michelin Guide has it listed among their selected Houston picks.

  8. Rank 1409. Beast & Cleaver

    Whole-Animal American Steakhouse

By day, Beast & Cleaver is a Ballard butcher shop where you can walk out with chops and links for the home stove. After hours it turns into a whole-animal steakhouse under the alter ego "The Peasant," running a tasting menu, which is the sort of double life usually reserved for superheroes. Steaks, house sausages, and even the salads draw a meat-minded crowd, and the chef was a James Beard Emerging Chef semifinalist.

  9. Rank 1410. Josephine's

    Southern Seafood

The house motto is "a little bit class, and a little bit trashy," which tells you everything you need to know about this Gulf Coast seafood spot in Midtown Houston. Crawfish come dry-seasoned or wet in a buttery Viet-Cajun sauce, and the broader menu runs from raw oysters and po'boys to shrimp and grits. Biscuits arrive with seasonal jam and whipped butter. The Michelin Guide has it listed, and Texas Monthly named it among Texas's best new restaurants.

  10. Rank 1411. NiHao

    Contemporary Chinese

The Peking duck arrives whole or halved, which is the kind of choice that quietly tells you what sort of restaurant NiHao is. A contemporary Chinese spot in Canton, it draws from Sichuan traditions and dim sum alongside more ambitious plates, with a menu wide enough that vegetarians and serious heat-seekers end up equally occupied. A James Beard semifinalist for Best New Restaurant, it landed national attention fast and has held the room ever since.

  12. Rank 1413. Southern National

    Modern Southern

The bread basket alone sets the tone: sheet-pan biscuits and jalapeño johnnycakes before you've even decided anything. This is a sleek Modern Southern restaurant in Summerhill, where the menu keeps one foot in tradition and one somewhere unexpected, think berber-spiced fried chicken or a dish cheekily called lamburger helper. A James Beard semifinalist and a New York Times pick, Southern National reads as a neighborhood spot that just happens to be cooking at a different level.

  13. Rank 1414. Jasmine

    Chinese

The sink has a ruffled curtain skirt, which tells you everything about how seriously Jasmine takes its room. This fine dining Chinese restaurant at the Bellagio overlooks the fountain show through floor-to-ceiling windows, while inside, chandeliers hang over deep reds and gold-tinted flatware on floral plates. The menu moves across Cantonese, Sichuan, and Hunan traditions, and the Peking duck is carved tableside with the full ceremony that implies.

  15. Rank 1416. Itria

    Italian

Itria takes its name from an ancient Syrian word for pasta, which tells you something about how seriously the kitchen takes the subject. This modern Italian fine dining spot on 24th Street runs a tight menu built around crudo and house-made pasta, where a light, unfussy hand does most of the convincing. Bar seating lines the center corridor, and a communal wood table anchors the back, giving the room an easy, convivial feel.

  16. Rank 1417. Canard

    French

Canard is a loose, loud French-ish diner on East Burnside, next door to Le Pigeon, where fast food gets a sommelier. Steam burgers, garlic fries, and tartare scooped with fried saltines share the table with serious Burgundy, and the whole thing costs less than you'd fear. Eater named it one of the best new restaurants in America, which the cheeseburger-and-foie crowd seems to have taken in stride.

  17. Rank 1418. Sho Pizza Bar

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The name comes from "shokunin," a Japanese word for total devotion to a craft, which tells you something about how seriously Sean Brock takes his pizza. This Neapolitan slice spot in Riverside Village has a domed wood-fired oven imported from Italy and a glass-walled prep area where you can clock exactly where the cheese and cured meats came from. The crust is cold-fermented slow and bakes up light enough that you'll order a second. Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  19. Rank 1421. Jianna

    Italian

Upstairs on Main Street, this downtown Italian restaurant fills up fast enough that the full-service bar exists partly as a pressure valve for the reservationless. The menu runs a clean Italian line from handmade pasta through to secondi, with the wine list holding its own alongside both. A James Beard semifinalist nod for beverage service in 2026 says something about where the priorities land.

  20. Rank 1421. Kappo

    Wagyu Omakase Japanese

A few steps below street level on MacArthur Boulevard, this intimate counter seats you facing the sunken kitchen where the team runs an eight-course Wagyu omakase. The style is Kappo, meaning the chef works in full view and the pacing feels personal rather than performative. Wagyu anchors almost every course, with seafood woven through, and the meal closes with Wagyu miso soup and rice that lands like the best part of coming home.

  21. The tap pours house wine, which tells you something about this Italian restaurant's priorities. Via Triozzi, on Lower Greenville, runs one of the deeper natural wine programs in Dallas, sourced from small family vineyards, and the kitchen matches that energy with a lasagne al forno that commits fully to its Bolognese. Texas Monthly named it among the state's top new restaurants, and Eater lists it as essential. The room fills early and stays that way.

  22. Rank 1424. Distant Relatives

    New-School Barbecue

Damien Brockway runs a BBQ truck parked at Meanwhile Brewing, and the cooking draws on African diaspora traditions in ways that make the usual brisket-and-sausage spread feel like a starting point rather than the whole story. Pecan-smoked chicken and nose-to-tail restraint sit alongside rotating sides that shift the genre somewhere new. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and Brockway is a James Beard semifinalist. Come early, bring patience, leave with extra napkins.

  23. The 2025 U.S. Brewers Cup champion works the bar here, which tells you something about the coffee before you've tasted it. Helm is a roastery cafe selling small-batch microlots in 100-gram bags, roasted on site and pulled toward clarity over comfort. Gesha varieties, floral aromas, lightly roasted. It's also, somehow, the official coffee sponsor of Gen Con, which means the tabletop gaming crowd found good taste before the coffee crowd found them.

  24. Rank 1427. Marcus

    American

The rum cake arrives tableside, which is either theater or efficiency depending on your mood. Marcus Samuelsson's hotel restaurant in NoMa runs New American with a wide lens, pulling in tamarind, obe, and uni-béarnaise alongside the kind of blue cornbread that people talk about unprompted. The room dazzles and the menu follows. A James Beard Emerging Chef semifinalist runs the kitchen.

  25. Rank 1428. Mission Pizza Napoletana

    Neapolitan Pizzeria

The wood-fired oven sits open to the room in a space that feels more like a late-night bar than a pizza parlor, which tells you something about the crowd. This is a Neapolitan pizza spot with a serious reputation, ranked in the 50 Top Pizza USA and a James Beard semifinalist. The dough is the whole argument here, and the team has been refining it long enough that regulars tend to skip the menu.

  26. Rank 1429. Kabuto

    Edomae Sushi

A strip-mall address in Chinatown that could be a nail salon from the outside, but inside it's a spare, serene omakase counter where the fish comes in from Tokyo's bay and the sake list runs to two dozen carefully chosen bottles with tasting notes. The room is small and the reservations are harder than they look on a map. Scott Conant and friends have been known to show up, which is the kind of endorsement that doesn't stay quiet long.

  27. Dolly's is a bakery-cafe on Rockaway Avenue that also runs a soft serve window, and the soft serve is where the strangeness lives. The blueberry pancake one comes with an actual pancake on top, so you can eat the dessert and its inspiration side by side like a tiny experiment. Flavors rotate through cereal and banana pudding, and it's all cheap, casual, and eaten standing up. The Infatuation has listed it among the best bakeries in NYC.

  28. Vindicktive is a Belltown beer bar built the opposite way from most sports bars: you come for the wings and the game is background noise. The skin shatters like a potato chip over juicy meat, and the flavors run from buffalo to salt and vinegar. It's a blue-cheese-only house, so ranch requests will be received with a long, quiet look. The Infatuation put the wings on its national list, which tracks.

  29. Wood-fired pizza in a Little River spot that feels like a party someone forgot to announce, concrete floors, dim lighting, and a natural wine list long enough to make you forget you came for the pizza. The pies come out of a wood-burning oven behind the bar with char that means it, and the crust cold-ferments for two days before it ever meets a topping. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand. Reservations are a good idea.

The name means "heart, captured" in Persian, which sets the tone before you've even sat down. This sceney Inman Village restaurant is built around sharing, with spreads and house bread to start, a dedicated section of tahdig on the menu, and slow-cooked meats for the table. The crowd arrives dressed to be seen, but the food is the kind that makes people stop talking mid-sentence. A Michelin Guide selection.

  32. Rank 1435. Obelisk

    Italian

A five-course prix-fixe of seasonal Italian, five nights a week, in a room that reads like a neighborhood spot rather than the occasion it technically is. The cooking is quiet and direct, letting good ingredients do the work without much fuss or flourish. Breads and desserts are made in-house, and the antipasti arrive fast, which is fortunate, because you're otherwise looking at a two-to-three-hour sit.

  33. Lost Larson is a Scandinavian-leaning bakery and cafe in Andersonville that mills its own flour, which sounds like a bit until you see the loaves. The pastry case looks like a Great British Baking Show finale, all tarts, cardamom buns, and savory croissants. Order at the counter, grab a sandwich or an afternoon bun with Earl Grey sugar, and expect to linger over coffee longer than you planned.

  34. Sugar Moon is a takeout-only bakery in Logan Square, so there's no table to claim, just a sidewalk line that starts forming a good half hour before the 9am opening and doesn't care about the weather. The reward is a curried cauliflower croissant or a Nutella-pear brioche bun, plus scones that crumble the way scones should. Pastry runs cheap, the wait costs you a Saturday morning, and it's been named among the country's favorite bakeries by The Infatuation.

  35. Wild Fig is a no-frills BBQ takeout counter in Summerlin that started life as a commissary kitchen, and it still has the energy of one. The smoked pastrami goes toe to toe with the East Coast versions, and the pickles are homemade. Most of it sells out by mid-afternoon, so ordering ahead is the move. A few picnic tables face the parking lot, which the people eating there have decided not to mind.

  36. A slice counter at the entrance means you can be in and out before the circular bar crowd even finds a seat. Pizza Rock is a big, loud, rock-and-roll pizza shop spread across multiple rooms, with booths for two and communal tables for everyone else. The menu runs several regional styles, and the staff can actually explain the differences. Named among 50 Top Pizza USA's excellent pizzerias, it draws a crowd that didn't want to eat on the Strip.

  38. Rank 1441. Costiera

The crudos come dressed with things like dill yogurt and salsa verde, which tells you this isn't a standard Italian-American red-sauce room. Costiera is a Mediterranean-leaning dinner spot in Baltimore drawing from mid-Atlantic seafood and pasta in about equal measure. The menu moves between bright and heavy depending on your mood, and the kitchen seems genuinely interested in the combinations rather than just the credentials.

New York's only revolving restaurant sits on the 48th floor of the Times Square Marriott Marquis, spinning slowly enough that you don't notice until Midtown has quietly swapped sides. Danny Meyer's team gave it an Art Deco overhaul, and the chophouse menu punches well above the tourist-trap neighborhood. The New York Times gave it a star in 2025. 44. A Vietnamese restaurant in a Las Vegas Chinatown strip mall that earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by doing exactly what it says on the tin. 45. Rank 1448. Uchi

    Japanese

Tyson Cole's Austin-born Japanese fine dining concept has colonized Old Town Scottsdale, and the food makes it hard to resent the expansion. The menu runs well past sashimi and nigiri into tempura, grilled meats, and crudo, and you can order à la carte, build a tasting menu with your server, or hand over full control with an omakase. The room runs on polished service and the kind of care that makes a chain feel like a local obsession.

  46. This tiny Chinatown dumpling house on Spring Mountain Road has a glass window where you can watch the staff fold your future soup dumplings while you wait, which is either entertainment or torture depending on your blood sugar. There are no reservations, and you may be asked to order before you sit, so study the menu in line. The chef was a James Beard semifinalist, and the xiao long bao are the reason the line exists.

  48. Detroit-style pizza with a self-described tagline of "pretty good pizza," which is either very honest or very good marketing. The ultra-thick, crispy-edged pies come from a pandemic pop-up that grew into a permanent spot, and the narrow space flows out to a sidewalk parklet. The drinks menu is almost entirely under ten dollars, with wine notes like "kissing a guy with a mustache." The New York Times named it among Seattle's 25 best restaurants right now.

  49. Rank 1451. Nobu

    Nikkei

This is the Caesars Palace Nobu, the biggest of the three on the Strip, a dim, stylish Nikkei dining room where lychee martinis and miso black cod are the opening move. Sequins and big watches fill the tables before a show at the Colosseum across the casino floor. Walk-ins sometimes score a bar seat, but plan on reserving a couple of weeks ahead.

  50. Raku is a Japanese izakaya in a Spring Mountain Road strip mall, where binchotan charcoal and condiments come straight from Japan and the robata grill does the heavy lifting. It stays open until 1am, so the late tables fill with chefs and hospitality workers who have just finished feeding everyone else. The omakase needs a call a few days ahead, and the sake list is long enough to count as a second menu.

  51. Real butter and sugar go into the crawfish boil here, which tilts the whole thing sweeter than the standard Cajun approach. This Viet-Cajun seafood spot on Bellaire runs a long roster of sauces, from garlic butter to Thai basil, and lets you mix them into something entirely your own. 53. The Original Chopped Salad has its own Facebook page, which tells you something about the regulars here. Citizen Public House is a polished American restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale that manages to feel genuinely comfortable despite looking like it shouldn't. Classic dishes get quiet, confident upgrades, the room runs warm without trying too hard, and the kitchen keeps the kind of hours that make it useful for more than just dinner plans.

  54. Rank 1457. True Chesapeake

    Oyster-Centric Seafood

The oysters on the menu come from the owner's family farm down in St. Mary's County, which gives this Whitehall Mill seafood restaurant a kind of built-in honesty you can taste. The kitchen leans Chesapeake, running roasted oysters, crab dip mac and cheese, and miso-glazed snakehead alongside the classics. Happy hour draws a crowd for good reason, with roasted oysters finished in butter, Parm, and Old Bay going for next to nothing.

  55. Rank 1458. Saffron Valley

    South Indian

The Indian street food mini-chain that started as a spice-blend stand at the farmers market now runs several Salt Lake locations, each anchored by what the restaurant bills as the city's largest Indian buffet. The menu leans into the southern and western regional traditions the founder grew up with, and a James Beard semifinalist nod for Outstanding Restaurateur in 2025 suggests the city has noticed. Come hungry and ready to commit to multiple plates.

  56. Rank 1459. Babychan

    Japanese Bakery

Babychan is a Japanese bakery on the ground floor of a Germantown condo building, done up in walnut and Japanese art, which is more design effort than most places put into the thing you eat standing up. The case runs to sesame swiss rolls, salmon onigiri, and milk bread stuffed with cream cheese. It was a James Beard semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurateur, and the pastries sell out early, so arrive at opening.

  57. Kurdish restaurant on Nolensville Pike, in the Nashville neighborhood that holds the country's largest Kurdish population, so the room knows what it's doing. Lavash comes out of the oven puffed with hot air, sesame seeds still warm, and the lamb stew arrives in its clay pot. The New York Times put it on their 2024 Restaurant List. Come with people, order more than you think you need, and plan on finishing it anyway.

  58. Through a glass partition, you can watch the dumpling-rolling operation in full swing before you've even ordered, which makes restraint basically impossible. This bright Outer Sunset shop does stuffed dumplings, cold small plates, and a beef noodle soup so deeply flavored it reads as a direct rebuttal to the neighborhood fog. The New York Times put it on their San Francisco list, and the pig-ear salad alone will make you rethink your dumpling-only strategy.

    Pizzeria

The dough here sits somewhere between New York and New Haven, fermented with a sourdough-and-commercial-yeast blend that produces a crust that shatters at the edge and stays open and airy inside. This is a pizza shop in the Lower Haight, and it's one of the tougher reservations in the city right now. On Tuesdays the kitchen roasts a half chicken that the New York Times found worth mentioning in the same breath as Zuni Café.

  60. Hand-pulled noodles are the whole point here, thick and chewy and landing somewhere between a bowl of Chinese noodles and a Middle Eastern lamb stew, which is exactly what Uyghur cooking is. Jahunger holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard semifinalist nod, and the menu is short, halal, and unapologetic about spice. A Cambridge noodle shop that quietly draws a crowd happy to wait.

  61. A dining room with a hand-shaped table at its center sets the tone for this Neapolitan Italian spot in South Miami. Antipasti and secondi arrive family-style for the table to share, while the menu leans into Neapolitan classics, slow-cooked ragù and pasta alla Genovese, reworked with a chef's eye for unexpected pairings. The cocktail list skews international, the service stays warm, and the whole thing landed on the 50 Top Italy world ranking.

  62. Bar Tutto is an all-day Italian cafe from Top Chef winner Joe Flamm, which means you can start with a pastry and an egg sandwich and, if the day cooperates, still be there when the handmade pasta shows up. The wood-fired grill handles razor clams and prawns with Calabrian chile, and the Fernet-leaning cocktail list suggests the staff has opinions about digestivi. It was a James Beard semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurateur.

    Indian

Newsprint wallpaper lines the hallway at this perpetually packed East Village Indian canteen, which relocated from Queens and came back louder. The kitchen runs on fierce seasoning and ornate presentations, often arriving in Le Creuset Dutch ovens that make the table feel like a small occasion. Order rice, order the crispy parathas, and plan to use them both. A Michelin Selected restaurant with a loyal following that doesn't really need to be told to come back.

  65. You get in by pressing a paw-shaped doorbell, which sets the tone. Doberman Drawing Room is a cocktail lounge and social club in the Arts District, dressed in antiques, taxidermy, and surreal art, with a central bar dividing the room into separate moody dens. Non-members are welcome; members get the private loft with a juliet balcony. No phones, no photos, charcuterie served inside a hollowed book, and cocktails that are genuinely the point.

  69. Firefly is a Studio City American restaurant built so two people can stare at each other without interruption. Outside, cabanas draped in fairy lights circle a see-through fireplace, and the patio stays quiet enough for whispering. Inside is a candlelit room that feels like a sexy library, flickering enough that a waiver wouldn't be out of line. Come with a date, not your friend from work. The Infatuation put it on its most ridiculously romantic list.

  89. Il Canto is a takeout counter in the Financial District, a Mediterranean spot best known for a breakfast burrito that has a lot of cheese going on. Scrambled eggs and creamy chipotle aioli come wrapped around it, and for a couple extra dollars you can add sausage, bacon, shrimp, potatoes, or beans. It's served all day, so the suits in line at noon don't have to pretend they're there for the Mediterranean part.

  90. Mama's Luncheonette is a daytime takeout window in Cow Hollow that has built a following on things wrapped in foil. The breakfast burrito comes stuffed with smashed tater tots, soft scrambled eggs, avocado, and cheddar, and the thick-sliced house brisket is an add-on you'll want to say yes to. The salsa arrives in a small cup, so ask for extra. There's also a chicken caesar wrap, because lettuce deserves a tortilla too.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
