The best places in Argentina, according to the experts: The 50, the Michelin Guide, and the Spirited Awards have all weighed in, and their honors are what rank this list. Don Julio comes out on top, and the good stuff runs deepest in Buenos Aires and Mendoza.
More Less
Tres Monos and Aramburu hold the next two places. The Michelin Guide shows up on more of this list than any other guide, with The 50 close behind.

Rank 1. Don Julio
Steakhouse
The wine bottles covering the walls have handwritten notes from past diners, and there are 60,000 more in the cellar below. Don Julio is a Palermo parrilla where the beef is farmed, butchered, and aged in-house, then finished over white quebracho charcoal on a V-shaped grill. It holds a Michelin star and sits at number ten on the World's 50 Best list. Book months ahead, or join the queue and accept the empanadas.

Rank 3. Aramburu
Argentine
A tasting menu restaurant tucked at the end of a cobblestoned passage in Recoleta, where chef Gonzalo Aramburu paints directly on eggshells and assembles spider crab to look precisely like a spider crab leg. The single menu changes with the seasons and leans hard into Atlantic seafood, with Argentine wine pairings to match. Dessert happens upstairs in a lounge with armchairs. It holds two Michelin stars and a spot on Latin America's 50 Best list.

Vietnamese
Named for the part of Vietnam that was once a French colony, CoChinChina is a cocktail bar in Palermo where the drinks come from Inés de los Santos, a name serious bar people say without needing to explain. The interior runs deep, with distinct rooms to discover and a hidden private room somewhere in the back. Food leans Franco-Vietnamese, bánh mì and all. Ranked 26th on the World's 50 Best Bars list, it draws the kind of crowd that knows exactly where it is going.

-
Ten diners at a single cedarwood counter, watching a kitchen team work in near silence through sixteen courses: that is the whole idea at Trescha. The chef trained across Europe before returning to Argentina to build a fine-dining tasting menu around local ingredients, with a dedicated test kitchen driving constant change. It holds a Michelin star and a spot on Latin America's 50 Best. The converted Villa Crespo mansion means dessert lands on a glass terrace, which is a nice problem to have.

Seafood
In a city where beef is practically a religion, this Palermo seafood restaurant holds a Michelin star and a spot on Latin America's 50 Best list while making the case for Argentina's coastline instead. The loft dining room runs on intimate lighting, charcoal smoke, and a glass wine cellar, and the oyster bar does Patagonian shells three ways before the menu moves on to wood-grilled fish and southern-coast shellfish. The rooftop garden supplies the kitchen.

Rank 7. Azafrán
Modern Argentine
A Michelin-starred tasting-menu restaurant in Mendoza where the region itself is essentially the co-chef. The kitchen works with local suppliers and a heritage food project tracing ingredients back to the area's earliest settlements, so goat, vegetables, and hyper-regional produce carry the menus rather than decorate them. Three tasting formats run from four to nine courses, and the sommelier's enthusiasm for what's in the glass matches the kitchen's for what's on the plate.

Rank 8. Victor Audio Bar
Cocktail Bar
Buenos Aires' first listening bar hides a headphone-operated jukebox inside a Palermo Soho townhouse, where each guest can cue their own song without disturbing the room. The team behind Tres Monos fitted the space with wood paneling, leather seats, and mid-century modern lamps for a private-club feel loosely borrowed from 1960s Japanese audio bars. It ranks on the World's 50 Best Bars list.

A giant baby-shaped balloon floating above the entrance is how you find this Asian-Argentine restaurant in Palermo Soho, which tells you something about the room before you walk in. Everything inside is red, hung with lanterns, and loud in the best way. Argentine ingredients meet Japanese, Korean, and Thai technique, landing on a #21 spot on Latin America's 50 Best list. The jars of homemade preserves and cured meats displayed in the back cellar tell you everything about what kind of place this is: a bodegón, Buenos Aires's answer to the neighborhood tavern, where Spanish and Italian-inflected classics have been feeding Palermo for generations. The team behind Don Julio runs it now, and the organic vegetables come from their own garden. It landed on Latin America's 50 Best list at number 24.

The dining room sits inside the Catena Zapata winery, a building shaped like a Mayan pyramid, and the kitchen takes the concept one step further: every dish is designed around wine, not paired with it after the fact. It's a Michelin-starred tasting menu restaurant where the two chefs cook through the flavors of Mendoza, and the meal begins with a walk through the winery and a vermouth in the distillery, which is a hard opening act to follow.

In a corner of the Luján de Cuyo wine country that nobody would photograph on purpose, this intimate tasting-menu restaurant holds a Michelin star. The room is small enough that service feels like attention rather than performance.

The dining room at this vineyard restaurant is inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy, which sets a certain tone before you've even looked at the menu. Alejandro Vigil, the winemaker behind it all, has a Michelin star here and a reputation in wine circles that precedes him by several counties. The kitchen runs seasonal menus rooted in Mendoza produce, much of it from the property's own garden, with a staff that treats service as a competitive sport.

A Michelin-starred tasting menu restaurant inside a converted mansion that was once a small hotel, with a cocktail bar and wine cellar tucked into what used to be the lobby spaces. Argentine
Repurposed shipping containers set among old vines in Luján de Cuyo, which is either the most on-brand thing Mendoza has ever done or just a great idea. This Michelin-starred fine dining room, from the Riccitelli winery, sends chef Juan Ventureyra's tasting menus through Mendoza's culinary roots, with the kitchen's own gardens doing most of the heavy lifting. Steakhouse
There's no sign on the corner concrete building in Núñez, which is either a statement or a test. Inside, a curtain parts onto an industrial loft where the kitchen and dining room share the same open air, and the chef cooks almost everything, starters through dessert, over fire. Galloping horse sculptures flank the entrance, and the polo theme carries right through to the leather-furnished Pony Line Lounge, which well-heeled Recoleta regulars treat as a personal living room. This Forbes Four Star hotel splits its 165 rooms between a modern tower and a Belle Époque mansion, the two connected through an outdoor pool and terrace. It holds a certain conviction that luxury and local character belong together, and the renovation made that argument in full.

A converted 1930s palace in Recoleta, built by a government minister who came back from France with big ideas and a fondness for Louis XVI excess. Cocktail Bar
A refrigerator door in the back of a flower shop swings open after 8pm, and suddenly you're in a large underground cocktail bar. The speakeasy conceit is well-worn by now, but the gin program gives it something real to say: a co-founder helped create Príncipe de los Apóstoles, the Argentine gin built on yerba mate and eucalyptus. Cocktail Bar
The menu says "this is not for everyone," and that's not false modesty: Doppelgänger stocks no beer, no wine, just a serious collection of spirits and vermouths. The cocktail bar pulls its look from 1920s and 30s Paris, Berlin, and New York, and it carries the attitude to match. Over 70 house originals share space with the classics, made with seasonal fruit and local ingredients. Come knowing what you want, or come ready to be told.

Cocktail Bar
A cocktail bar in Palermo where Jules Verne sets the dress code: expect brass fittings, moody lighting, and a menu built around the cities Phileas Fogg visited in 80 days. The drinks do the traveling so you don't have to. Beer, wine, and gourmet hot dogs round things out for anyone who prefers to stay grounded. It draws a crowd most nights, so arriving early is the Fogg-approved strategy.

Cocktail Bar
The unmarked entrance and exposed brick suggest a place that has been setting the template long enough to stop explaining itself. Gran Bar Danzón is a cocktail bar near the business district, which means the afterwork crowd fills the long, backlit bar early and the well-traveled hotel guests follow. The room tries slightly harder than it needs to, but the ambiance lands anyway, which is probably the truest sign of an old-school institution.

Every guest gets a personal butler, which sets the tone for this 23-story luxury hotel in Retiro, positioned conveniently close to Puerto Madero, Recoleta, and the Microcentro. The list of past guests, including Bill Clinton and a handful of European royals, suggests the staff has seen it all and remains unflappable. Two pools, clay tennis courts, and a round-the-clock concierge handle whatever the butler cannot.

Steakhouse
A glass dome floods the dining room with light, the open kitchen anchors one wall, and the aging cabinets displaying different cuts of meat make the menu feel almost redundant. This is a contemporary steakhouse inside the Four Seasons Buenos Aires, where Angus and wagyu go over the Josper grill and the wine list leans hard on Mendoza and Patagonia. An open grill and a cloud of smoke are the organizing principles at this casual neighborhood spot in Colegiales, where two chefs turned years of travelling through Australia and Barcelona into a menu that pulls from Asian, Mediterranean, and Jewish kitchens. Tucked into a covered passageway full of boutiques, this bistro earns its Paris comparisons through sheer commitment to the aesthetic: globe lamps, long banquettes, high ceilings, and mirrors that have clearly been there since your grandparents were young. Cocktail Bar
You enter through a sushi restaurant, give a password, and surrender your phone at the door. Nicky Harrison is a speakeasy cocktail bar in Palermo that commits hard to the bit: low light, live jazz, tarot readings, and Prohibition-era drinks named for the era's shadier figures. The no-photos rule means the crowd actually talks to each other, which feels both radical and deeply old-fashioned. Named for a real bootlegger, which somehow makes the theatrics feel earned.

Steakhouse
Seven different open-flame techniques give this beef-focused restaurant its name, and Francis Mallmann's kitchen uses every one of them. Slow fire is the whole philosophy: embers and patience rather than stoves and timers. The terrace dining room at the Vines Resort looks out over Uco Valley vineyards toward the Andes, which makes the wait for a slow-grilled ribeye considerably easier to bear. Cocktail Bar
A full New York subway carriage sits in the middle of this Palermo Hollywood cocktail bar, considerably cleaner than anything the MTA runs. The concept goes deep: metro tiles, graffiti, transit ads, and a drinks menu organized by subway line. The theming could easily tip into theme-park territory, but the bartenders actually know what they're doing, and the room slides from low-key to full party without anyone announcing the transition.

Perched between two Patagonian lakes with the Andes behind it, this grand mountain lodge resort was built in the style of Canada's great railway hotels, all cypress timber, stone fireplaces, and Norman tile roofs. Golf, skiing in July, fishing, rafting, and condor watching keep guests occupied. Standard rooms are comfortable and well-appointed, and nearly every one looks out at water or snow-capped peaks, which does most of the decorating for them.

The wood-fired oven sits in plain sight, the way it would in Naples, and the pizzas that come out of it are properly leavened and blistered in the Neapolitan tradition. The name comes from theater, where actors break the fourth wall by speaking directly to the audience, and the chef does something similar: finishing dishes at a large open island while guests watch from their seats.
