  1. Rank 1802. Maple & Ash

    Steakhouse

  2. Rank 1803. Maple & Ash

    Steakhouse

A wood-fired hearth anchors this Gold Coast steakhouse, casting the kind of light that makes everyone look like they have somewhere more important to be later. Maple & Ash leans hard into the party-steakhouse genre, with deep leather couches, clubby music, and a photo booth tucked somewhere in the multilevel room. Dry-aged cuts come in generous portions, and the seafood menu holds its own. The bar is a Top 10 U.S. Nominee at the Spirited Awards.

  3. The famed red door on Sixth Street opens into one of Cincinnati's most serious fine dining rooms, the kind where comfort food quietly arrives in formalwear. The kitchen has been around forever, occupying the old Maisonette address, and the pommes soufflées remain a knowing nod to that lineage. The menu moves between reliable classics and sharper seasonal swings, and dessert gets the same attention as everything before it.

  4. The only all-local butcher case on O'ahu anchors this Kaimuki bakery and butcher shop, where the counter swings between venison chops and char siu croissants without missing a beat. House-made Spam shares space with liliko'i baklava danish, and the sandwich of the day rotates with whatever the butcher is working with. A James Beard Outstanding Bakery semifinalist, it's the rare spot where the lard in your almond cookie is a selling point, not a secret.

  6. Rank 1806. Ostra

  7. Rank 1809. Market Restaurant + Bar

    Contemporary American

The parking lot reads like a car show, which tells you something about who comes to dinner in Del Mar. This is a sleek, dimly lit restaurant where the menu ranges from sushi to blue cheese soufflé with no apparent anxiety about that range. The chef leans into the contradiction, pulling from Europe and Asia with enough confidence that the international sprawl feels like a point of view rather than indecision.

  8. Rank 1810. Imperfecto

    Latin Mediterranean

A glass-and-marble box that practically dares the sky to blink first, Imperfecto is a modernist Latin American fine dining room where the counter seats directly under the chef's station feel like a restaurant folded inside another one. The menu works through Latin flavors with precise, elaborate technique, and a Michelin star backs the ambition. Bring patience, an appetite, and someone worth sitting across from for a long evening.

  9. Rank 1811. Rooh

    Indian

Beef short ribs draped in velvety curry and pakora-fried kale arranged like a bird's nest signal that this SoMa restaurant is doing something more deliberate with Indian cooking than most. The room is high-ceilinged, colorful, and clubby, with a roomy courtyard for when the weather cooperates and branded blankets for when it doesn't. Cocktails lean inventive, the menu is built for sharing, and the pricing reflects the ingredient quality.

  10. The bones of a steel mill are still visible in the exposed brick and heavy timber of this boutique hotel, which sits in a historically Black neighborhood called the Block on the south edge of downtown. Benne on Eagle, its Appalachian soul food restaurant, draws a crowd well beyond the guest list. Breweries and a Moog synthesizer museum are a short walk away, for when you need to explain the trip to someone.

  11. Contemporary art by local artists lines the walls at this design-forward hotel in the thick of Pack Square, which makes Asheville's self-styled Paris-of-the-South reputation feel at least a little earned. Rooms run tastefully upscale, Bargello handles Mediterranean food and wood-fired pizza downstairs, and District 42 takes care of cocktails. A Michelin Selected Hotel, it's the kind of property a town this size isn't supposed to be able to pull off.

  12. Rank 1814. Scotch 80 Prime

    Japanese Steakhouse

Scotch 80 Prime is the steakhouse at Palms, where the wagyu comes from specific farms across Japan and the chef knows which. It's pricier than a pizza night but gentler than the Strip's steakhouses, and happy hour knocks 30 percent off select steaks and garlicky ibérico lumpia. You can perch at the bar for beef sold by the ounce, or go all in on A5 striploin and see how much marbling a human can reasonably absorb.

  13. Rank 1816. Miller & Lux

    Steakhouse

Tyler Florence's steakhouse sits waterfront in the shadow of Chase Center, which sounds like a pre-game stop but is decidedly not. The marble-and-leather room leans into quiet glamour, the kind of place you'd actually dress for. Dry-aged steaks are seared to a deep mahogany, oysters come from a saltwater estuary in the kitchen, and tableside Caesar service arrives without irony. The World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants lists it at number twenty-five.

  14. The dining room juts out from the Mt. Washington cliff face, so the three rivers appear to be directly below your table, which is a lot to process when you're deciding between apps. Altius is upscale American fine dining with portions that are, refreshingly, sized for actual humans. They seat you with warm popcorn before anything else, a small signal that the room won't make you feel guilty for enjoying yourself. AAA Four Diamonds.

  15. Rank 1820. Cowboy Star

    American

Cowboy Star is a downtown steakhouse that goes all in on the Western set dressing, with cowhide chairs, a steer skull on the wall, and a door handle shaped like a giant spur. It holds an AAA Four Diamond rating, so the evening runs more tablecloth than saloon. Order a ribeye, but save room for the bronzed Parker House rolls, then talk yourself out of the mechanical bull nearby.

  16. Rank 1820. L'opossum

    French

A stained glass window of, let's say, assertive subject matter sets the tone before you've ordered a thing. L'Opossum is a fine dining room where French technique meets full-on theatrical excess, the kind of place that serves lobster mac and cheese under a name like "swank bank" and wraps a cocktail in plastic like a certain *Twin Peaks* corpse. The bathroom is clowns. All of it is intentional, and somehow it holds together.

  17. Rank 1820. North Pond

    Seasonal American

A converted ice skaters' warming hut on the edge of a Lincoln Park pond, with the Chicago skyline framing the water outside the windows. North Pond runs a tasting menu that moves with the seasons, the chef pulling in Latin and Asian influences alongside herbs from a rooftop garden overhead. The room is warm brick and candlelight, the kind of place that earns its romantic reputation without visibly trying.

  22. Tucked into the wooded edge of Sonoma wine country, this fine dining restaurant earns its pastoral name without trying too hard. The kitchen leans into California's seasonal obsessions with real conviction, running a compact prix fixe alongside a longer tasting menu. Herb-laminated pasta, foraged mushrooms, Vietnamese-inflected black cod, the menu reads like a love letter to the region. The drive out from Santa Rosa is part of the deal, and nobody here seems to mind.

  24. Rank 1831. Altura

    Italian

A hand-carved wooden angel watches from an overhead alcove while chef Nathan Lockwood plates Northwest ingredients on moss and stones below, which pretty much sets the tone. Altura is a fixed tasting menu restaurant on Capitol Hill, the kind of place where the cooking is polished but the service stays warm enough that you don't feel like you're being graded. A good call when the occasion demands it.

  25. Rank 1831. Circa 1886

    Southern

The original carriage house of the Wentworth Mansion holds this fine dining room, where white tablecloths and soft lighting set a tempo the rest of Charleston is still trying to match. The chef has been running these seasonal menus for what feels like forever, and the tasting menu moves through the Lowcountry with enough range to keep things interesting. A AAA Four Diamond property, and one of the more convincingly romantic rooms in the city.

  26. Rank 1831. Marché Moderne

    Modern French

A fire engine-red Berkel slicer sits in open view of the dining room, which tells you something about how seriously this fine dining French restaurant takes its charcuterie. Husband-and-wife team Florent and Amelia Marneau run a kitchen that moves between classical and modern French without making a fuss about it. The glassed-in kitchen and soft globe lighting keep things elegant without going stiff. The cocktail list tracks the seasons, and the wine pairings are unusually fairly priced.

  27. Rank 1831. Sorelle

    Southern Italian

Three renovated townhouses in historic downtown Charleston have been stitched together into an all-day Southern Italian cafe where the bones of an old bank still show through in the brass and marble. The room dresses up well, and so should you. Wood-fired pizzas and pastries carry the daytime crowd, but the house-made pastas are the reason to linger into evening. It holds a Michelin Guide selection and four AAA Diamonds.

  31. The dark checkerboard floor and blue-gray leather banquettes make this West Village dining room feel like a romantic fever dream someone actually built. Don Angie is a creative Italian restaurant where the team bends the genre cheerfully, folding in fried rice and mezcal-braised chicken alongside handmade pastas without any of it feeling like a gimmick. The room fills with people who booked weeks out and don't regret it.

  32. Anchored in Fashion Island with floor-to-ceiling windows pulling California sunshine into every room, this hotel earns its Michelin Key for putting SoCal polish ahead of resort cliche. Art deco interiors run through 295 guest rooms, a sleek steakhouse, and a pool bar pouring Baja-flavored bites alongside cocktails. Ocean views are easy to come by here, which is either the point or the whole thing, depending how long you plan to stay.

  34. The dining room at this resort restaurant looks straight out at the Santa Catalina Mountains through big windows, with wood-beamed ceilings and wrought-iron chandeliers doing the rest of the work. It's a fine-dining room where the food skews toward slow-braised meats and careful plating, and the wine list has earned its own separate reputation. Brunch draws a crowd willing to dress for it.

  35. The cottages and villas here sit behind a private entrance with dedicated valet, effectively a separate resort tucked inside the famous Victorian landmark on Coronado. Hosts meet you with a welcome drink before you've found your room key, and the staff leans hard into wish fulfillment: fully stocked kitchens, surfboards at the door, candlelit dinners on the sand. The kind of place where asking for a vintage convertible is apparently a reasonable request.

  36. Seventy-two suites spread across fifteen oceanfront acres on a cliff above the Maui coastline, with three islands visible on a clear day. Hotel Wailea is an adults-only resort with the scale of a private retreat, all winding paths, waterfalls, and tropical gardens keeping the outside world at arm's length. The architecture leans into indigenous Hawaiian design rather than generic resort polish, and the staff make the distinction feel earned.

  37. The plasterwork and fountain-dotted streetscape of Country Club Plaza sits just outside the door, which sets the tone: this is a boutique hotel that leans hard into Old World atmosphere without apologizing for it. Preserved original details from the 1920s share space with modern conveniences, and the in-house restaurant, Chaz on the Plaza, handles the contemporary American side of things for guests who'd rather not wander far.

  38. Rank 1845. Jasmine

    Chinese

The sink has a ruffled curtain skirt, which tells you everything about how seriously Jasmine takes its room. This fine dining Chinese restaurant at the Bellagio overlooks the fountain show through floor-to-ceiling windows, while inside, chandeliers hang over deep reds and gold-tinted flatware on floral plates. The menu moves across Cantonese, Sichuan, and Hunan traditions, and the Peking duck is carved tableside with the full ceremony that implies.

  39. Rank 1846. Cosme

    Mexican

The corn husk meringue has been on the menu so long it's practically load-bearing. Cosme is a fine dining Modern Mexican room in the Flatiron, dark and handsome, with a serious bar up front pouring seasonal cocktails and roomy tables behind it where the menu runs short and focused. Chef Enrique Olvera put this kitchen on the map, and it remains very much a scene, for better and occasionally for worse.

  40. A section of the menu simply called "On toast" tells you most of what you need to know about this New American bistro on Walnut Street. The chef trained under Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and that classical foundation shows in the confident pairing of seasonal and luxury ingredients across small plates, raw dishes, and larger shared plates. The brownstone space runs two floors but stays intimate, with a counter facing the kitchen for anyone who wants to watch.

  41. Rank 1848. Daisies

    Italian

Pasta and vegetables carry most of the weight here, at this bright, sun-flooded Italian restaurant in Logan Square that holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The house-made pappardelle and rigatoni keep regulars coming back, but the onion dip with house-made ruffles has become a thing people talk about. A bakery tucked in the back means the pastry situation at the end of a meal is genuinely hard to navigate. The bar program turns heads too, a James Beard semifinalist for hospitality.

  46. Retro doorknob tassels stand in for standard "do not disturb" signs, which tells you pretty much everything about the vibe here. The REMI. is a hotel in North Scottsdale built for the kind of people who consider the pool deck a social obligation. Rockwell Group did the interiors, all leather headboards and powder-blue velvet, and the Allegra rooftop bar pulls sunset crowds on the 12th floor. Kauboi's yakitori-meets-sushi terrace and the F-16 diner round out a property that locals treat like a neighborhood.

  50. The booths are carved from redwood wine casks, the bar is Hinoki cedar, and the walls are smoothed red clay, so the room itself does a lot of work before the food arrives. Rintaro is an izakaya with a NorCal sensibility, meaning locally caught fish gets the sashimi treatment and the charcoal grill handles skewers with the same seriousness. The covered courtyard, ringed with citrus trees, is among the harder outdoor seats to snag in the city. Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  52. The owner placed fourth at the U.S. Brewers Cup, which tells you something about what's in the cup. Amberson is a multi-roaster coffee shop that rotates through a rotating lineup of domestic and international roasters, leaning toward the less obvious names. The vibe is neighborhood-rooted rather than scenester-forward, and the coffees skew toward microlots that don't show up just anywhere.

  53. A 20-room boutique hotel wrapped around a courtyard in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea, L'Auberge Carmel occupies a white stucco building that has been collecting interesting neighbors since the 1920s. The Relais & Châteaux membership sets the tone: evening turndown, valet, a chauffeured house car, and the quiet attentiveness of a place that knows exactly how small it is and considers that the point.

  54. Rank 1862. Marcel

    French Steakhouse

Low lighting, red leather banquettes, and a name borrowed from a French boxer set the tone at this Westside steakhouse. Ford Fry built Marcel as a speakeasy-style throwback where the menu leans into dry-aged ribeyes and côte de boeuf alongside French-accented sides that nobody at the table will let you skip. The price tag is real, but so is the fun, which is a rarer combination than it sounds.

  56. The curved white tower was designed to echo the superyachts that idle offshore, which sets the tone for what you're getting: a sleek beachfront Four Seasons where the nautical theme runs from the navy-striped rugs to the spa's water-based treatments. Rooms face either the Atlantic or the Intracoastal. The beach concierge handles loungers, umbrellas, and watersports, and complimentary bikes are there for when the sand loses you.

  57. Every one of the 226 rooms has a private terrace facing the Atlantic, which makes the clifftop setting feel less like a amenity and more like the whole point. This is a sprawling luxury resort on 70 acres of rough Maine shoreline, with an ocean-facing spa, outdoor pools, and a Forbes Four Star and a Michelin Key to its name. The crowd skews well-heeled road-tripper; the vibe is coastal grandeur with enough square footage that it never feels crowded.

  58. Rank 1869. BACÁN

    Contemporary Latin American

A chocolate sphere melted tableside sets the tone at this Latin American restaurant inside Lake Nona's Wave Hotel: dramatic is the operating mode. Warm wood, vivid color, and ceilings tall enough to lose a drone in frame a menu that roams Central and South America with a tropical lean. Small plates and bigger signature dishes share the card, and a service robot circulates among the banquettes without anyone seeming to find it unusual.

  59. Rank 1869. Bánh by Lauren

    French Vietnamese Bakery

Pandan honeycomb cake in a shade of green that has no business being that vivid sets the tone at this Vietnamese-French bakery in Chinatown. Lauren Tran, formerly of Gramercy Tavern, started as a pop-up during the pandemic and landed in a brick-and-mortar that draws a line before most people have had coffee. Chiffon cakes, macarons, and savory scones packed with Chinese sausage and cheddar fill the case. A James Beard Outstanding Bakery semifinalist in 2026.

  64. The bread program at this neighborhood bakery runs from sourdough with serious tang to laminated pastry so thin it reads as architecture. The team behind it trained at Gjusta and Bien Cuit, which explains a lot. Seasonal baked goods shift the menu toward the sweeter side, and the cafe itself gives Healdsburg a proper morning anchor. A 2025 James Beard Outstanding Bakery semifinalist and a New York Times pick for top American bakeries.

  65. Roselily is a South Bend dining room where the multi-course tasting menu comes in a form you can actually walk into without a tie, though you'll want to look like you tried. 69. Honey-toned wood and bamboo slats are as decorative as this midtown sushiya gets, which is pretty much the whole statement. An old-school omakase counter where the itamae in front of you sets the tone entirely, Sushi Yasuda runs on classical instincts and zero interest in trends. They require a confirmation call and expect you on time, which regulars treat as basic manners rather than a hardship. Counter seats toward the far end are the ones to request.

  70. Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Jonathan Benno share the kitchen at this fine dining room on Park Avenue, where floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with enough light to make the room feel both grand and surprisingly calm. The menu roams freely from French to Italian to Asian without apology, landing each time with precise technique. A dining room with a hand-shaped table at its center sets the tone for this Neapolitan Italian spot in South Miami. Antipasti and secondi arrive family-style for the table to share, while the menu leans into Neapolitan classics, slow-cooked ragù and pasta alla Genovese, reworked with a chef's eye for unexpected pairings. The cocktail list skews international, the service stays warm, and the whole thing landed on the 50 Top Italy world ranking.

  74. The Beaux-Arts bones alone justify a slow lap through the lobby. The Ned NoMad is a hotel that takes socializing as seriously as sleep, with guests getting access to members-only spaces including a whimsically muraled downstairs club. NoMad puts the Empire State Building and Madison Square Park in easy walking range while Downtown stays close enough for a late night. The kind of place where you feel like you're in on something, even as a tourist.

  75. The name references Denver's original Chinatown, but the room itself is all polished RiNo cool, dark and loud in the way that makes you feel like you're already having a good time. Hop Alley is a sleek Sichuan-leaning restaurant where the kitchen takes familiar Chinese formats and torques them sideways. The bar holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and was a James Beard semifinalist for its drinks program, which leans into Asian ingredients and geeky natural wine with equal conviction.

  76. Five rooms above the restaurant, each with picture windows over Healdsburg's low-key downtown, and the kind of locally made snacks and luxurious bath amenities that make you wonder whether anyone actually checks out. The inn runs on the same Japanese hospitality philosophy as the dining room below, so the attention to detail borders on the uncanny. Gracefully minimalist, high-ceilinged, and more like a very tasteful friend's guest room than a hotel.

    The awards

  77. A family of dolphins lives in the resort's lagoon, which tells you something about the ambition level here. This is a classic luxury resort on the quiet side of Diamond Head, well away from Waikiki's chaos, with a calm private beach and the kind of unhurried, personal service that boutique hotels keep promising and rarely delivering. Every American president since LBJ has stayed, and the place carries that history without being stiff about it.

  78. Wetsuits and surfboards pass through the lobby with enough regularity that nobody looks twice, which tells you most of what you need to know about the Seabird. This Destination by Hyatt resort sits across from Oceanside's main beach, with a third-floor pool deck and many rooms facing the Pacific. The design leans into the setting without overdoing the coastal theming, and the salt air tends to do the decorating anyway.

  79. Bright-painted shipping containers, string lights, heat lamps, and a chalk-scrawled menu on the door: Tacos Oscar is a taco shop that treats the format as a suggestion. About half the menu goes vegetarian, leaning hard into California produce, and the rotating selection means whatever you order this visit may be gone the next. Weekend brunch pulls its own crowd. The Michelin Bib Gourmand and a spot on the L.A. Times' best California restaurants list give you a sense of where things stand.

  80. The corrugated metal-and-wood façade on Mott Street is hard to miss, and the inside delivers: a Thai-accented diner with rattan screens, woven bamboo, and counter seats worn smooth by regulars. Ann Redding and Matt Danzer run the kitchen, and Thai tea French toast is available all day because breakfast should not have a curfew. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the New York Times puts it at number 52 on its NYC list.

  81. Rank 1898. MAKfam

    Chinese

Chicken wings dusted in málà seasoning are the thing people keep coming back for, but the corned beef fried rice is the move that explains this place in one bite. MAKfam is a quick-casual American Chinese spot run by a married couple with roots in Chinatown takeout and a loose definition of tradition. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and the James Beard Foundation named the chef a Semifinalist for Emerging Chef.

  82. Hunan cooking is a different beast from the Cantonese or Szechuan you probably know, and this Kendall Square restaurant is one of the few places around Boston doing it right. The Michelin Bib Gourmand goes to a menu built around heat, funk, and ferment, where even the General Tso's runs on a house-made sauce. The spicy cucumbers alone have regulars ordering doubles. A lively room, casual prices, and the kind of food that makes you ignore your phone.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
