  1. The lobby's Ming green marble arrives before you've even found your room, and the spiral staircase down to Akira Back's first UK restaurant makes clear this hotel takes its interiors seriously. A Michelin 2 Keys, Forbes Four Star property in Mayfair's Hanover Square, it holds fewer rooms than private residences, which keeps things quiet in the way only money reliably does. Vivienne Westwood designed the signature fan.

  2. The name comes not from the antelope but from a cherry-red 1964 Chevrolet the chef drove around Egypt as a kid, which tells you most of what you need to know about how personal this Soho restaurant is. Egyptian and North London cooking wind together across a menu that moves through wood-oven breads, grilled meats, pilaf, and pasta, with duck roasted in molasses and fig sauce as the dish people can't stop talking about. It landed at number 15 on the National Restaurant Awards list.

  3. Terracotta walls, gold detailing, and a DJ booth downstairs set the tone at this Punjabi restaurant on Heddon Street, from the team behind Gymkhana. The menu moves between dhaba-style roadside cooking and the ceremony of royal North Indian dining, with clay pot curries and oversized biryanis built for groups feeling celebratory. The cocktail list leans tequila-heavy and the room leans loud. It holds a Michelin star, which the dance floor makes pleasingly difficult to take too seriously.

  4. Rank 103. Black Swan

    Creative British

Exposed beams, flagged floors, and an open fire announce that this was a pub once, though the tasting menu format means you won't be propping up the bar. The kitchen at this Michelin-starred country restaurant runs on produce from its own farm and two acres of growing beds, supplementing with pickling and preservation when the fields go quiet. The village of Oldstead is genuinely in the middle of nowhere, so arriving here is a decision, not an accident.

  5. Rank 103. Frog by Adam Handling

    Modern British

A waffle with sour cream and caviar is the kind of opener that signals exactly what Frog is doing: fine dining with a sense of humor, tucked a short walk from the chaos of Covent Garden. Adam Handling's Michelin-starred flagship runs tasting menus built on classical technique with enough playfulness that the room never feels stiff. The downstairs Eve Bar, all low light and inventive cocktails, is worth the visit on its own.

  6. Rank 103. Interlude

    French

Wallabies roam the gardens outside, which is either charming or surreal depending on your mood, and inside the Italianate mansion chef Jean Delport runs a long, expensive tasting menu shaped by the Sussex estate and his South African upbringing. Foraged ingredients, braai-inflected main courses, and carrot biltong making an appearance mid-menu. Michelin have given it a star.

  7. Rafael Cagali's Hove restaurant earned Brighton and Hove its first Michelin star in roughly fifty years, which gives you a sense of what the south coast was working with before this arrived. Maré is a modern sharing-plates restaurant where the cooking runs from Brazilian to Mediterranean to Japanese without feeling lost, held together by a kitchen that came up through Da Terra. The room is sleek; the service is warm enough that you won't notice the ambition.

  8. Rank 103. OMA

    Greek

A crudo bar faces a live-fire kitchen upstairs from Borough Market, which is exactly as dramatic as it sounds. OMA holds a Michelin star for its Greek and Levantine sharing menu, where breads and dips give way to charcoal-grilled plates with a punchy, sun-scorched confidence. The wine list runs to 450 bins, arranged by proximity to the sea, because of course it is. Stone, dark wood, and eucalyptus tones set the room; the terrace looks straight down onto the market below.

  9. A Georgian townhouse on Padstow's most restaurant-dense street, where Paul Ainsworth runs a Michelin-starred fine dining room that leans into fun without winking too hard about it. Cornish produce anchors the cooking, classical technique holds it together, and the kitchen finds room for touches like a pre-dessert course named "Yesterday's Scone." The town already had Rick Stein; Ainsworth is the reason people now have to make two reservations.

  10. Rank 103. Restaurant St. Barts

    Modern British

Picture windows looking out over the cloisters of St Bartholomew the Great set the room apart before the food even arrives. This is a tasting menu restaurant in Clerkenwell, Nordic-warm in feel, with furniture made from fallen London plane trees and handmade ceramics produced partly in-house. The kitchen works a refined Modern British format, chasing seasonal produce and small-scale suppliers around the British Isles. It holds a Michelin star.

  11. Rank 103. The Boat

    Modern British Pub

A Michelin-starred gastropub on a busy A-road outside Lichfield, which is either a strike against it or the whole point, depending on how you feel about destination dining. The kitchen runs a small on-site farm that feeds the menu, with local producers covering the rest, all handled with the kind of precision that makes a venison dish feel considered rather than merely seasonal. The chefs come out to explain what's on the plate, and somehow it doesn't feel annoying.

  12. Rank 103. The Cross

    Contemporary British Pub

The dining room here was once a schoolroom, and the hand bell wall lamps haven't let anyone forget it. This Michelin-starred gastropub in a restored Grade II listed inn does serious British cooking, the kind that follows the seasons closely and sources with equal care. The back room looks straight onto the kitchen pass if you want the theatre. The tasting menu is how the kitchen makes its fullest argument.

  13. Rank 103. The White Swan

    Modern British Pub

From the outside it reads as a classic Lancashire village pub, and inside it still delivers a proper pint and a genuinely jolly atmosphere. The Michelin-starred White Swan at Fence runs a set menu that lets the kitchen focus on refined, classical cooking built from local and seasonal produce, the kind of food that has no business being this good in a room this relaxed. Regulars and pilgrims from further afield share the same unhurried tables.

  14. A tasting menu restaurant sitting above a jewellery shop in the middle of Lichfield, which is either the most unexpected address in the Midlands or a perfectly on-brand piece of theatre. Tom Shepherd holds a Michelin star, Staffordshire's first, and runs tight, unfussy modern British menus where each dish lands on two or three elements and earns every one of them. The room is 36 covers, warm, unhurried, and genuinely hard to book.

  15. Art deco styling, 45 rooms, and Wolfgang Puck's CUT steakhouse in the lobby: this Mayfair hotel wears its luxury without announcing it at every turn. Every room has a Hyde Park view and contemporary British art on the walls, and the penthouse has enough space to host dinner for half of central London. The Dorchester is right next door if you need more. Michelin 2 Keys and Forbes Four Star.

    The awards

  16. An Antony Gormley sculpture crouches two stories tall on the corner, half gargoyle, half Minecraft figure, and yes, you can sleep inside it. The Beaumont is a Mayfair luxury hotel built around the glamour of a fictional 1920s New York members' club, with Art Deco bones, walnut paneling, and marble bathrooms that feel more bespoke suit than grand gesture. The bar and restaurant keep the mood going. It holds a Forbes Four Star and 2 Michelin Keys.

    The awards

  17. Afternoon tea at the Palm Court didn't start here by accident; the Langham claims the tradition as its own invention. This grand Victorian hotel on Portland Place has marble floors, soaring ceilings, and the kind of bones that make newer luxury rivals look like they're trying too hard. The Artesian bar and The Wigmore pub are both on-site, and the whole West End is essentially at the door. Michelin awarded it 2 Keys.

    The awards

  18. The Baccarat chandelier in the lobby sets the tone: this is a luxury hotel that used to house the Ministry of Defence, and the building still carries that weight. Rooms come with marble baths, Hypnos beds, and underfloor heating as standard, while the penthouses top out at two floors with a terrace facing the London Eye. A four-floor spa, Tom Kerridge's Bar & Grill, and Salvatore Calabrese mixing cocktails downstairs round things out. It holds a Michelin 2 Keys and a Forbes Four Star.

    The awards

  19. A scale model of Concorde suspended from the ceiling sets the tone at this rooftop fine dining room inside The Peninsula, named after the Surrey racetrack and decorated accordingly. Claude Bosi's team turns out precise, unhurried cooking built around British ingredients, Lake District lamb and Cornish squid given the kind of attention that earned the restaurant two Michelin stars. Floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a terrace with views to match the ambition.

    The awards

  20. Rank 120. Queen of Cups

    Middle Eastern Pub

A Glastonbury pub named after a tarot card, in an old coaching inn where the menu runs on Middle Eastern instinct and Somerset produce. The chef, of Jordanian heritage and French training, spent summers cooking with her grandmother in Jordan before stints at The Palomar and a Michelin-starred spot in Anglesey shaped her into someone who can make a shish barak feel completely at home in the West Country. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand.

  21. The name is Krio for "fancy," which tells you exactly what Maria Bradford is going for in this intimate fine dining room in Sevenoaks. Small plates and sharing dishes draw on Sierra Leonean family recipes, the kind passed down through generations, then reframed with contemporary technique. Beef short rib in groundnut and coconut sauce is the dish people keep talking about. A Michelin Bib Gourmand and a National Restaurant Awards Trailblazer of the Year for 2026.

  22. Rank 122. Lab 22

    Welsh Cocktail Bar

The cocktails here come with QR codes explaining the science behind them, which sounds gimmicky until you're reading about rooftop honey and sea-salt chocolate fish scales at midnight. Lab 22 is a Cardiff cocktail bar that takes a genuinely theatrical approach to the glass, with bartenders who have been known to breathe fire in service of a drink. Ranked in the Top 50 Cocktail Bars, with Bar Team of the Year 2026 to its name.

  23. The old Cox's and King's bank on the corner of Waterloo Place has been repurposed as London's most convincing argument for Paris. This Sofitel hotel swaps chintz and country-house prints for dark lacquered furniture and near-monochrome rooms that feel genuinely continental. The Wild Honey St James restaurant holds a Michelin star, and the St James Bar leans glamorous. A Forbes Four Star and a Michelin Key round out a property that takes French hedonism at a Royal address rather seriously.

    The awards

  24. The bar's name is, literally, a triangle, a square, and a circle. Everything else follows that logic: the space is built on Bauhaus principles, stripped to almost nothing, with no branded bottles on display and no concession to the usual cocktail bar theater. It lands somewhere on the World's 50 Best Bars list, which feels right for somewhere this committed to a concept. Come for serious, minimal drinks in a room that looks like a design school thesis, executed well.

  25. The kitchen counter at this Fitzrovia fine dining room puts you close enough to watch the team work through dishes rooted in West African tradition, from Ghanaian and Senegalese to Nigerian, each one handled with the kind of care that earns a Michelin star. The cooking stays true to regional flavors while finding its own register, which turns out to be a more interesting argument for a cuisine than any manifesto could make.

  26. Rank 126. Couch

    Cocktail Bar

Every cocktail on the menu is built around a film, and the menu itself is designed as a picture editorial, so you're reading a small magazine before you drink. This walk-in neighbourhood cocktail bar in Stirchley topped the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list in 2026, which is a long way from a quiet side street in Birmingham. Wednesday to Saturday, 4pm onward, stools at the bar and bistro tables, no reservations required.

  27. A boutique hotel in Belgravia that began life as a petrol station, which explains nothing about what it looks like now. Forty-one rooms dressed in leather, muted tones, and marble bathrooms large enough to take seriously, organized loosely around the five classical elements in a way that stops well short of spa-retreat theater. The lobby is small by design; the rooms get the space. Holds a Michelin Key and a Forbes Four Star.

    The awards

  28. A 400-piece contemporary art collection lines the halls of this Edwardian landmark near Covent Garden, including a large-scale sculpture made entirely of colorful comics standing guard at the entrance. One Aldwych is a boutique hotel with a Forbes Four Star and a Michelin Key, a 18-meter pool, a Bamford spa, and a Lobby Bar that draws the pre-theater crowd as reliably as the theaters themselves do.

    The awards

  29. The awards

  30. A former Midland Bank headquarters turned luxury hotel, the Ned wears its Art Deco bones well: marble columns, original banking hall grandeur, and enough bars and restaurants to never leave the building. Rooms run from cozy crash pads with rain showers to the old chairman's office with its own elevator. Bankers and creative-industry types share the space without visible tension. Forbes Four Star.

  31. The lobby smells of eucalyptus and peppermint, and the floor-to-ceiling windows somehow swallow all the Park Lane noise before it gets to you. This sleek Mayfair boutique hotel sits directly across from Hyde Park, with guest rooms done in a stripped-down, Zen-adjacent calm that makes you want to go to bed embarrassingly early. A Forbes Four Star property, and the kind of place where "minimal" doesn't mean forgetting to decorate.

  32. Georgian townhouses on Berners Street, renovated into a luxury hotel with Ian Schrager's fingerprints all over the public spaces. The lobby swings from 18th-century tapestry to a minimalist black reception desk lit by chunky candles, and the rooms go the other direction entirely: clean lines, rich wood, earth tones. Three bars on the premises ensure you never have a reason to leave, which is very much the point. Forbes Four Star.

  33. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame Lake Windermere and the woodland beyond, which sets the tone before any food arrives. Henrock is a modern restaurant inside Linthwaite House, part of Simon Rogan's farm-led empire, now with a head chef who came up through River Cottage and the Paris circuit. The kitchen draws produce from Rogan's nearby Our Farm and pairs it with Asian-inflected seasoning, so the Lake District and somewhere considerably further afield end up on the same plate.

  34. Rank 133. The Wild Rabbit

    Modern British Pub

A Cotswolds inn that pulls its produce straight from Daylesford's farm next door, so the bread, cheese, meat, and vegetables have had almost no time to reconsider their life choices before reaching the table. The Wild Rabbit is a gastropub with a log fire, worn leather armchairs, and an open kitchen, and it sits in the Top 50 Gastropubs list. The bar runs artisan ales alongside the kind of lagers nobody is embarrassed to order.

  35. Rank 135. Tom Thumb

    Cocktail Bar

A neighborhood cocktail bar in Newquay running on renewable energy, with compost feeding the herb planters and over 140 bottles behind the stick. Foraged coastal botanicals show up when they're in season, kitchen scraps get upcycled into salts and sherbets, and the non-alcoholic list is taken as seriously as everything else. Named the Sustainable Bar of the Year by Top 50 Cocktail Bars, and it earns that without making you feel like you're attending a lecture.

  36. Mirrored ceilings and gossamer curtains separate this two-Michelin-starred fine dining room from the chaos of Regent Street below, which feels like exactly the point. The chef trained under both Alain Ducasse and Hélène Darroze, and the modern French cooking shows it: classical dishes arrive recognizable in name and transformed in every other way, plated with the kind of precision that makes the room go quietly focused.

  37. Rank 136. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

    Traditional British

Heston Blumenthal's two-Michelin-star dining room inside the Mandarin Oriental takes its cues from England's oldest recipe books, then does thoroughly Heston things to them. The signature dish arrives looking exactly like a mandarin orange and turns out to be chicken liver parfait, which tells you everything about the register here. Guests even choose how much the servers explain, a thoughtful touch in a room that could easily lean on ceremony. It closes for good in early 2027.

  38. Rank 136. hide and fox

    Modern British

A former village shop on the green in Saltwood, this two-Michelin-starred neighbourhood restaurant has quietly become one of Kent's more serious kitchens. The cooking leans into the county's larder with real conviction, and the wine list wanders into Georgia, Croatia, and Macedonia when everyone else is still arguing about Burgundy. Come for dinner; the cocktails at the bar first are not optional.

  39. A Victorian house on Midsummer Common, with the meadow visible from the dining room, sets a scene almost too picturesque to be taken seriously. Midsummer House takes it seriously anyway, running two Michelin stars out of this pretty setting with creative, constantly evolving tasting menus that lean into luxury ingredients without losing a sense of playfulness. The desserts, in particular, tend to be the talk of the table on the way home.

  40. Tucked into the lower reaches of Gleneagles, this intimate fine dining room has dark wood walls, clever lighting, and food-themed art that somehow avoids feeling like a theme restaurant. The late Andrew Fairlie's philosophy carries on in cooking that is French at its core and Scottish in its sourcing, with sauces, a glossy lamb jus or punchy Bordelaise, doing the quiet heavy lifting. Two Michelin stars.

  41. Rank 136. Restaurant Story

    Modern British

A two-Michelin-starred tasting menu restaurant near London Bridge where the kitchen sends out a surprise set menu, so you sit down knowing almost nothing about what's coming. Tom Sellers' team works with serious ingredients, langoustines and turbot among them, presented in a way that makes the plate feel like a considered decision rather than a garnish situation. The room is bright and open, the service runs warm, and a second floor now handles private dining.

  42. Two joined Victorian townhouses on a quiet Knightsbridge terrace, where Picassos hang on the walls and the staff-to-guest ratio runs two-to-one, which explains a lot. This 28-room boutique hotel holds a Forbes Five Star and sits within walking distance of the V&A, Harvey Nichols, and Hyde Park. It runs very much on the small, personal, family-owned model: preferences noted, treats left without being asked, dogs welcomed without drama.

    The awards

  43. The wood-fired oven runs the show at this Italian fine dining restaurant on the Thames, and has done for long enough that a table here still feels like an occasion. Ruth Rogers's kitchen keeps things honestly rustic, leaning on whatever the season offers, clams, crab, wild sea bass, and a wine list that Italophiles treat as the main event. The terrace over the river is the seat to request, and it holds a Michelin star.

  44. The cocktail menu arrives styled as a 1920s pocket encyclopedia, which tells you most of what you need to know about the register here. This is a glamorous hotel cocktail bar inside Gleneagles, with a dress code to match the room's Art Deco opulence. The team forages the Perthshire estate for ingredients, then does something faintly eccentric with them. Ranked in the Top 50 Cocktail Bars, it draws an equally turned-out crowd who take their vintage champagne seriously.

  45. Rank 145. Lyaness

    Cocktail Bar

Ryan Chetiyawardana's cocktail bar on the South Bank builds its menu around five house-made ingredients, things like tree caramel and thunder mushroom, that sound like a fantasy novel and drink like a revelation. The space runs gold, blue, and silver, open and unhurried. The menu, called the Ancestral Cookbook, explains itself at the back for anyone who blank-stared at "death bitters," which is most people, and that's rather the point.

  46. Rank 146. Corenucopia by Clare Smyth

    Traditional British

Thick cream carpets, velvet upholstery, and mahogany tables set the tone for Clare Smyth's Belgravia fine dining room, where traditional British cooking gets quietly rewritten. The "fish and chips" turns out to be Dover sole filled with lobster mousse, which is either a betrayal or an upgrade depending on how attached you are to the original. A Michelin star hangs over it all, earned through that kind of precision.

  47. Huge windows face the street, and the light inside has clearly been given as much thought as the menu. This is a Michelin-starred neighbourhood restaurant in Chelsea, which is to say the room is elegant without trying to prove it, and the cooking follows the same logic: Mediterranean influences, pared-back flavours, nothing showing off. Philip Howard is behind it, if the name means anything to you. A casually dressed lunch works as well as a proper dinner.

  48. Rank 148. 40 Maltby Street

    Mediterranean Wine Bar

A wine bar tucked under the railway arches in Bermondsey, where the menu is a chalkboard, reservations don't exist, and the wine comes from a natural-leaning importer operating out of the same warehouse. Around a dozen small plates change daily, running from terrines and seasonal salads to something more substantial, and the idea is to order the lot and share. First-come seating keeps it lively, and nobody here seems to mind waiting.

  49. A £100 million renovation swapped out whatever was there before for dark green leather headboards, marble bathrooms, and a crystal chandelier above a woodland sculpture where a load-bearing pillar used to stand. This Knightsbridge tower hotel holds a Forbes Four Star, sits opposite a private garden square guests can actually use, and runs a naturally lit indoor pool under a double-height glass ceiling that most people in SW1 still don't know about.

  50. Three Edwardian red-brick buildings a short walk from the palace, arranged around a courtyard that glows with neon after dark. This is an all-suites hotel, so the rooms run large by London standards, with a residential feel that tilts more contemporary apartment than imperial grandeur. The Indian influences are there but quiet. The Jaguar Suite was shaped by the automaker's design director, which tells you something about the clientele. Forbes Four Star.

  51. Rank 151. Bar Kinky

    Cocktail Bar

A copper-vaulted room below Charlotte Street that fits maybe six people around a central island bar, which means the bartender is always close enough to explain why there's blue cheese in your cocktail. This subterranean cocktail bar leans hard into savory and unexpected, pairing vodka with beetroot and walnut or whiskey with horchata and milk tea. The cocktail menu, called "In Search of the Divine," pulls from the Indian subcontinent, so your Old Fashioned comes with coconut and jaggery and your margarita gets chaat masala. 54. Leicester Square sits right outside the windows, but the hotel is engineered to make you forget that almost immediately. The Londoner is a 350-room luxury hotel that calls itself a "super boutique," and the phrase earns its keep: Yabu Pushelberg-designed rooms feel considered rather than corporate, and six floors below the square a full spa and hydrotherapy pool give you somewhere to disappear entirely. A rooftop bar, a speakeasy, and a two-screen Odeon cinema round out a hotel that barely needs a city around it.

  55. Each of the 30 rooms is different, decorated in its own tartan with Georgian antiques and a carved fireplace that looks borrowed from a private members' club, which is more or less what this boutique hotel used to be. Views of Edinburgh Castle come standard. Whisky tastings, afternoon tea, and a pantry stocked with over a hundred malts round things out. It holds a Michelin Key and a Forbes Four Star.

  56. Rank 156. The General Tarleton

    Modern British Pub

A glass-roofed courtyard and a big terrace where walk-ins are always welcome set the tone at this gastropub near Knaresborough, part of Tommy Banks' growing Yorkshire operation. The kitchen runs on local produce and day-boat fish, mixing pub classics with the odd more ambitious move, all with a seasonal logic baked in from the start. The service team have the warmth the setting asks for, which, in a coaching inn this old, is quite a lot.

  57. Rank 157. Miga

    Korean

The bone broth recipe alone has been in the family for generations, which tells you most of what you need to know about this bright, airy Korean restaurant on Mare Street. Dad runs the open kitchen while his sons work the room, and a mural outside traces the whole culinary lineage back to Seoul. The menu is modern Korean without being showy about it, and the Michelin Bib Gourmand keeps the crowds loyal without tipping the place into self-importance.

  58. Rank 158. Planque

    Modern British Wine Bar

Two former railway arches in Haggerston have been turned into a wine-focused restaurant with cobalt blue walls, a communal table at its center, and a surprising amount of natural light for a space that technically lives underground. Membership gets you wine storage and priority reservations, but the 60-cover room is open to everyone. The modern British menu is short and deceptively simple, with small-producer, low-intervention bottles doing a lot of the talking.

  59. Original artworks by the Bloomsbury Set hang on the walls, which tells you everything about the register this hotel is pitching at. Kit Kemp's signature interiors lean into color and pattern where most London hotels were once doing stiff-upper-lip minimalism, and it shows. There's an underground cinema with a Friday film club, an all-day bar, and rooms that feel individually put together rather than chain-issued. Michelin awarded it a Key.

  60. Rank 160. Murder Inc.

    Dive Bar

Neon red signs glow against the brick walls of this Soho dive bar tucked down a backstreet off Tottenham Court Road, and the name is the only thing scary about it. The team behind the Cocktail Trading Company runs the room, keeping cocktails at £11 and deliberately un-fussy while landing something that feels like beauty and filth in quiet agreement. Sick tunes, a pet piñata, and no pretension anywhere in sight.

  61. Rank 160. Passing Fancies

    Cocktail Bar

The menu changes constantly by design, which is the whole point of the name. This cocktail bar in Digbeth's Custard Factory keeps only twelve drinks on the list at any given time, ranging from fruity and approachable to a rye-walnut-salt number that means business. The room is laid out like a kitchen at a house party, which sounds like a cliche until you're in it. It landed on the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list at number sixteen.

  62. Rank 162. Benares

    Modern Indian

A flower-filled pool and a buzzing bar greet you on the way up to this Mayfair Indian dining room, which holds a Michelin star and pulls a crowd split evenly between power lunches and date nights. The chef's cooking takes Indian tradition somewhere more restless and precise, with the sourcing doing a lot of the quiet work. Private rooms make it a favorite with the suits, but the room itself earns the evening on its own.

  63. The entrance is a graffiti-covered door behind a Shoreditch pub, which tells you almost nothing about the bright, panelled dining room upstairs. Paris brasserie meets New York tavern is the pitch, and it mostly checks out: big flavours, generous portions, martinis leaning hard into the pour. Counter seats put you closest to a team that seems to be having the best night in the room. A National Restaurant Awards listing in 2026 confirms what the regulars already knew.

  64. A row of white Victorian townhouses just off Queen's Gate, close enough to the V&A that you could hear a docent if the windows were open. The Kensington is a Forbes Four Star hotel run by the Irish Doyle Collection, which turns out to be rather good at the old-school London luxury hotel, a genre the English themselves seem to have quietly given up on. Working fireplaces, Georgian windows, 150 rooms that are comfortable without performing at you.

  65. Rank 165. The Broad Chare

    British Pub

A proper pub by the Quayside, named for the lane it sits on and stocked with more than fifty beers downstairs before you even think about heading up to the rustic dining room. The kitchen leans into hearty, punchily flavoured British cooking, the kind that suits a pint and doesn't apologize for it. A Michelin Bib Gourmand and a fixture on the Top 50 Gastropubs list, which seems about right for a place this committed to being an actual pub.

  66. Rank 165. The Cornish Arms

    British Pub

A traditional high-street pub in Tavistock where proper pints and carefully cooked food share equal billing, The Cornish Arms holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a spot on the Top 50 Gastropubs list. The kitchen leans into local produce without making a fuss about it, turning out dishes that look simple until you notice how much thought went into them. Locals and tourists seem equally at home, which is harder to pull off than it sounds.

  67. Slabs of red deer rump and sirloin cooked over an open fire in the flag-floored Elk Room is the main event at this gastropub on a thousand-acre Norfolk deer park. The menu leans hard on whatever the estate and the nearby Cromer boats bring in, with offal and nose-to-tail cuts sitting alongside the headline steaks. The Michelin Guide has given it a Bib Gourmand, and the place earns it without trying to impress anyone.

  68. Rank 165. The Hero

    British

A three-floor pub in Maida Vale that somehow does everything without feeling stretched thin: cask ales and cheese toasties downstairs, open-fire grills on the first floor, classic cocktails in a cosy library above that. The team behind The Pelican restored this one with care, and the Michelin Bib Gourmand and a spot in the UK's Top 50 Gastropubs suggest the neighbourhood got rather lucky. Traditional British pub food is the backbone, done without irony.

  69. Rank 169. The Spy Bar

    Cocktail Bar

The entrance was once a guard room, and the spy theme here stops well short of kitsch. This cocktail bar at 57 Whitehall forbids photography, which feels appropriate given the building's history, and the moody, close interiors make the rule easy to respect. The Martini is the organizing principle, with drinks named for Cold War tradecraft and wartime intelligence networks. It ranked 43rd on the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list for 2026.

  70. A former Baptist church in Holborn, dressed by Jacques Garcia in jewel-toned rooms with an Art Deco birds-and-butterflies motif running through every surface. The hotel holds a Michelin Key, and the whole project reads as a love letter to Oscar Wilde, which means the decadence is the point rather than a side effect. Classic bistro fare downstairs, the British Museum and the Royal Opera House around the corner.

  71. Rank 171. Hey Palu

    Modern Italian

A small Italian cocktail bar on Bread Street where amari, vermouths, and bitters are treated less like modifiers and more like the whole point. The Negroni is a baseline, not a showpiece, and the menu moves from there into weirder, warmer territory. The playlist gets its own Spotify account, which tells you something about how seriously the team takes the room. Top 50 Cocktail Bars has it at number seventeen.

  72. Rank 171. Side Hustle

    Latin American Cocktail Bar

The marble bar inside the old Bow Street Police Station is a lot more welcoming than it once was for guests. Side Hustle is a Latin American cocktail bar inside the NoMad hotel in Covent Garden, with an agave-heavy drinks list that ranges from tequila and mezcal classics to more inventive builds. Tacos and tostadas keep things grounded. It ranked 12th on the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list for 2026.

  73. Rank 171. Swift Soho

    Cocktail Bar

Two floors, two different nights out: the ground floor runs a tight list of classics and house cocktails, while the basement lounges deeper, with live music on weekends and over 300 whiskies to work through. Booking downstairs is advised, which tells you something. The cocktail menu leans into a travel theme the team rotates, and Swift landed at number 15 on the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list.

  74. Rank 171. The Hideout

    Cocktail Bar

Tucked into Lilliput Court, this cocktail bar occupies a building that locals will tell you was bricked up and forgotten for years, historically used by thieves and smugglers who found Bath's Georgian law enforcement inconvenient. The outlaw theme runs through the menu, with cocktails named for famous criminals. An extensive whisky selection sits alongside, for when you'd rather just drink like a reprobate without the narrative. Ranked 13th on Top 50 Cocktail Bars 2026.

  75. Seven tables in a handwritten-menu dining room above one of Soho's most storied pubs, where the portraits of former regulars like Lucian Freud watch you eat calves' brains with brown butter. The kitchen, now run by Angela Hartnett's husband Neil Borthwick, keeps the menu brief, French, and unapologetically meaty. Madeleines arrive fresh at dessert. Downstairs, no phones, no music, and thirty champagnes by the glass keep the bohemian faithful happily off-grid.

  76. Rank 176. The Rum Fox

    British Pub

Treacle-glazed pig's cheeks and a Lancashire cheese soufflé anchor the menu at this smartly refurbished gastropub in a small Ribble Valley village, ranked in the UK's Top 50 Gastropubs. The cosy bar handles a quiet pint just fine, while the bright orangery dining room is where the kitchen gets serious: full-flavoured, unfussy cooking built on well-sourced produce. The Den fits ten for a more private meal, and Sunday lunch runs to curried goat pie for anyone bored of the usual.

  77. Rank 176. The Unruly Pig

    Modern British Pub

Beamed ceilings, log burners, and modern art on the walls set the tone at this gastropub in rural Suffolk, a short drive from Woodbridge. The kitchen leans British with a Mediterranean streak, changing the menu monthly and running daily specials off local coastal suppliers. More than sixty wines are available by the glass, which keeps things lively. It sits at number two on the Top 50 Gastropubs list, for those keeping score.

  78. Rank 178. Bar Termini

    Italian Cocktail Bar

A narrow Italian cocktail bar on Old Compton Street that sells bottled Negronis to go, which tells you most of what you need to know. The menu is short by design, built around a handful of Aperol spritzes, Marsala Martinis, and wine cocktails, with enough burrata and charcuterie to keep you honest. 79. Grosvenor Square has FDR and Reagan statues out front, which sets the tone nicely for a hotel that takes itself seriously without being stiff. The Biltmore is a luxury property in Mayfair, all Art Deco bones with contemporary softening, and it sits a short walk from Bond Street, Park Lane, and Oxford Street. There's no spa, but the fitness setup is substantial and several restaurants and bars are on-site, including a steakhouse.

  80. Rank 180. Brawn

    Mediterranean British

The flower market on Columbia Road draws the weekend crowds, but Brawn has been the reason to stay for lunch long after the stalls pack up. It's a snug, light-filled neighborhood restaurant with a Mediterranean-British menu that reads like it was written by someone who actually wanted to eat all of it. The room has that worn-in, comfortable feel, and the cooking is understated in the way that takes real confidence to pull off.

  81. The church pew seating has been here since the Victorian era, and it does not pretend otherwise. 83. Rank 183. Erst

    Natural Mediterranean

Polished concrete and an all-natural wine list inside a converted Ancoats warehouse: Erst is a restaurant and wine bar that leans firmly into sharing plates of bright, punchy Mediterranean food. The menu is short and shifts often, the kind of place where you order everything and argue about nothing. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and squarely anti-glitz in a city that loves a big night out.

  84. Rank 183. Higher Ground

    Modern British

A long island counter runs the length of the room, doubling as open kitchen, pass, and bar, which tells you most of what you need to know about Higher Ground. It's a neo-bistro in Manchester's Chinatown where around ninety percent of the produce comes from the team's own partner farm in Cheshire. Sharing plates lean experimental and seasonal, and the wine list runs deep on low-intervention Europeans and grower champagnes. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand.

  85. Rank 183. The Loch & The Tyne

    Contemporary British Pub

The raised beds on the terrace grow the herbs and vegetables that end up on your plate, which sets the tone nicely for this gastropub in Old Windsor. Adam Handling's country inn holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a place on the Top 50 Gastropubs list, and the kitchen earns both by taking pub classics seriously without taking itself too seriously. The haggis Scotch egg and the seasonal trifle are regulars worth knowing about.

  86. A grand Scottish resort that once ran on society-calendar logic, open summers only, for the kind of people who made a point of venturing north. Now it's year-round and rather more international, but 850 acres of Perthshire, three championship golf courses, and a spa with an outdoor hydrotherapy pool under open sky have a way of making that feel irrelevant. It holds a spot on the World's 50 Best Hotels. You can still arrive by train, which feels correct.

  87. Rank 187. Lowkey

    Cocktail Bar

The seasonal menu at this cocktail bar inside Cardiff's Duke Street Arcade is organized by decade, so you can sip something from the era of your choosing while pretending your taste was always this refined. Tucked just off the castle, Lowkey keeps the music low enough for conversation and runs on table service, which sets the tone. It landed on the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list for 2026, and the classics are there if the concept doesn't grab you.

  88. Rank 187. Slowpour

    Cocktail Bar

Every cocktail on the menu comes in two versions, light or dark, so you're choosing a mood as much as a drink. Slowpour is a cocktail bar tucked into the basement of Ropes and Twines on Bold Street, built around the idea that nobody should be rushed, least of all you. The drinks are considered and the pacing is deliberate, which in a city that usually wants to get on with it, counts as a quiet act of defiance. It landed on the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list in its first year open.

  89. Rank 187. The Milk Thistle

    Cocktail Bar

Four floors of a handsome old Bristol building given over entirely to cocktails, which feels like the right call. The Milk Thistle is a cocktail bar spread across a hidden vault, a lounge, and an attic, with the kind of eclectic decor that earns the word without apology. Drinks lean classic with house riffs woven in, and the team tends toward recommendations rather than leaving you to flounder. It ranks in the Top 50 Cocktail Bars list.

  90. Rank 187. Viajante87

    Cocktail Bar

The signature martini is served at -20°, which is either an engineering feat or a dare, and the answer matters less than the fact that it arrives. This intimate cocktail bar on Notting Hill Gate builds its rotating menu around the team's travels through Latin America, so the spirits and syrups shift with the season and the itinerary. Ranked 33rd on Top 50 Cocktail Bars 2026, it draws a dressed-up crowd who came prepared to be transported somewhere specific.

  91. A Charlie Whinney sculpture made from wood and copper hangs in the lobby, its curves meant to echo the Thames visible just outside. This luxury hotel in Nine Elms brought the Park Hyatt brand to the UK, and the 18-story glass tower earns the address: floor-to-ceiling windows frame the river from almost every room. Marble bathrooms, brass and leather details, and 34 suites round out the offer. Forbes Four Star.

  92. There's no reception desk at this Marylebone Lane boutique hotel, just someone with a tablet and a glass of something sparkling to check you in while you sink into a sofa. The rooms are modern in a neighborhood that usually defaults to Georgian formality, and the public spaces include an Italian restaurant in a double-height room and a bar that draws locals as reliably as guests. Butler service runs on every floor.

  93. Upper Loch Torridon sits right outside the windows, mountains stacked behind it, and the restaurant inside The Torridon hotel leans into the drama with vivid decor and cooking to match. Modern tasting menus are built on Highland produce, swinging from classical to quietly strange, which earns it a Michelin star without making the room feel stiff. The whisky collection is extensive enough to keep you busy long after the plates are cleared.

  94. Rank 193. 1890 by Gordon Ramsay

    Contemporary French

Ten tables, no menu choices, and the ghost of Escoffier hovering approvingly over every course. This intimate fine dining room just off The Savoy's American Bar holds a Michelin star and runs a surprise tasting menu that riffs on the great French chef's classics using modern technique. The room leans art deco, the lighting is golden, and the whole thing is quiet enough to hear yourself think, which in central London is its own kind of luxury.

    Modern British

A husband-and-wife team runs this snug Modern British restaurant in an old Grade II listed townhouse on Ledbury's main street, and the division of labor is pleasantly straightforward: she looks after the room, he cooks alone. The menu is short and unfussy, letting whatever came in that day do the talking. It holds a Michelin star, which the lack of tableside theatrics makes feel almost impolite to mention.

  97. Àcleaf sits under the wooden beams of a former minstrels' gallery inside a hall that traces its roots to the Domesday Book, which is a lot of history to eat dinner in. This Michelin-starred fine dining room keeps the cooking restrained and precise, leaning on prime seasonal ingredients worked through a modern, internationally minded lens. The room is cosy and intimate, which softens the formality just enough to make the whole thing feel like a discovery rather than an occasion.

  98. The art-deco dining room on Waterloo Street has been around forever, and the cocktail bar that greets you sets the tone for what follows: this is a tasting-menu restaurant that takes itself seriously without going stiff. 99. Rank 193. alchemilla

    Modern British

Vaulted red-brick arches from a Victorian carriage house give Alchemilla its bones, while a living wall and roof garden signal that the chef had other ideas. Alex Bond's Michelin-starred modern British cooking leans hard into contrast, pairing sweet, sour, and citrus in ways that feel intuitive rather than engineered. The wine list tilts natural and slightly esoteric, which fits the room perfectly.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
