Rank 493. Puerto Madero - Cancun
Steakhouse
This is an Argentinian steakhouse on the Cancún hotel zone strip, with a shiny grill out front and a wine cove stocked with malbec and merlot. The brick walls and Mediterranean touches are meant to calm everyone down, and it works on large groups, couples, and parents alike. Expect a proper sit-down dinner with chimichurri, puffy souffle potatoes, and prices that assume you're on vacation. It holds AAA Three Diamonds.

RosaNegra is a dinner party disguised as a restaurant, where the servers dance, the tomahawk steaks get a flamethrower, and fire dancers drop by between courses. Expect sparklers, cocktails in skull mugs, and a trout arriving under a smoking glass dome. It's a pricey Latin spot on the Boulevard Kukulkan hotel strip, so dress for a party and bring a card that won't flinch. AAA has given it three diamonds.

Bakery
A 1940s casita in San José del Cabo's Arts District, with umbrella tables out front strung under papel picado, doing the kind of all-day bakery-bistro work that makes mornings feel optional. Conchas, croissants, and donuts fill the display case, and the coffee counter handles the rest. Things get more serious toward brunch, when wood-fired pizza and chilaquiles in morita chile sauce join the mix. The Michelin Guide has taken note.

Peruvian
The showstopping fountain in the center of the room tells you everything: Toro is a pan-Latin American restaurant that wants to be remembered. Large furniture, a buzzy atmosphere, and a menu that swings from Oaxacan cheese-smothered enchiladas to grilled cauliflower in pomegranate and red wine reduction. It's the kind of place where both the carnivores and the vegetarians leave satisfied, which is harder to pull off than the fountain makes it look.

Taqueria
The cochinita pibil comes out electric orange from achiote, and it will absolutely stain your shirt. El Turix is a bare-bones Yucatan taqueria in Polanco with a steel counter, no real seating, and a line that parks itself outside regardless. The slow-roasted pork lands on panuchos or in tacos, topped with pickled red onion. Office workers in loosened ties eat next to construction crews, which is about as reliable a quality signal as any.

A colonial house standing on the footprint of an Aztec ceremonial temple, directly across from the Zócalo, restored by a team of architects, stonemasons, and blacksmiths who apparently took the job seriously. This tiny boutique hotel has just three rooms and suites arranged around a stone-arched courtyard, each outfitted in hand-carved furniture, beamed ceilings, and parquet floors. The terraces are generous enough that the whole thing feels like borrowing a very well-connected friend's Mexico City townhouse.

The name translates to "hotel with no name," which turns out to be exactly the kind of branding move an artist-architect team would pull. This boutique hotel in a centuries-old courtyard house keeps the interiors spare enough that the original shapes and materials do the talking, with large-scale monochrome photography adding the only real flourish. A rooftop pool, a small library, and a vegan Oaxacan restaurant round things out, steps from the main square.

Six suites tucked inside a working design museum a short walk from the Zócalo, which tells you almost everything about the kind of hotel Mumedi is. Each room treats the building's colonial bones as raw material, pairing historical architecture with contemporary Mexican craft and design objects that are very much for sale. The result is a boutique hotel that functions as a living showroom, which sounds gimmicky until you're sleeping inside it and it doesn't feel gimmicky at all.

A courtyard hotel in a colonial mansion, adults-only, with only 15 rooms and enough tropical greenery packed inside that you half-forget you're in the city center. The plunge pool helps. A 25-room boutique hotel in Centro Histórico where the building itself has a story, this was once the studio of legendary photographer Manuel Álvarez Bravo, whose work still hangs throughout. Grupo Habita wrapped Shaker-minimalist rooms around a colonial courtyard, layering Oaxacan textiles against weathered old stone. The rooftop pool and bar are where the place loosens up. Eight suites next to the cathedral, arranged around a courtyard so quiet you'd never guess the city center is right outside. Contemporary Mexican
The entrance on Calle Alfonso Reyes gives nothing away, but step inside this contemporary Mexican restaurant and there are tall cacti, a small fish-stocked lake, and the feeling of a courtyard that somehow forgot it was in the middle of the city. The menu moves between aguachile and pasta without apology, and a crème brûlée finished with Kalamata olive is the kind of move that sounds wrong until it isn't. Good for a date, fine for a family, easy for anyone.

The rooftop pool sits above the Zona Minerva treetops, which tells you something about the priorities here. Casa Habita is a 37-room boutique hotel from Grupo Habita, the Mexican mini-chain that has a habit of making everywhere else look fussy. Beamed ceilings and hand-laid tilework set the tone at this luxury boutique hotel in Tepoztlán, the mountain town outside Mexico City where Aztec ruins and a national park have long drawn day-trippers without anywhere decent to sleep. A courtyard pool interrupted by a single tree is a good sign for a hotel with ideas. Hotel Bo, a 22-room boutique property in San Cristóbal de las Casas, holds the Michelin Guide's one Key distinction and earns it through grounded design: clean modern lines in the public spaces, rooms full of bright color softened by local wood and woolen throws. Rooms and suites arranged around a central pool on the Pacific coast of Baja, Hotel San Cristóbal is Bunkhouse's first move outside Texas, and it lands in Todos Santos at a lucky moment, before the town fully discovers itself. The setup is beach-casual with a boutique edge, the bar and restaurant carry the social life since the town mostly doesn't, and the agenda outside is surfing or whale-watching. It holds a Michelin Key.

Brutalist concrete exteriors dissolve into the Baja desert at this all-suite boutique hotel an hour north of Cabo, where the architecture's austerity is the whole point. Rooms counter it with king beds and spa-like bathrooms, some with open-air soaking tubs or hammocked terraces. The infinity pool, oasis spa, and an Oaxacan clay oven in the restaurant fill out the days. A Michelin Key property.

A colonial house in Cuernavaca that an architect gutted and reassembled until the colonial bits and the brutalist bits started a conversation. The hotel holds a Michelin Key, and the rooms are named for twentieth-century Italian artists, stocked with Bulgari products, and furnished with modernist pieces alongside the antique bones. The open-air restaurant sits under a soaring concrete canopy, which feels appropriate for a city that bills itself the City of Eternal Spring.

Rank 539. Taqueria Los Parados
Mexican
The name is a spoiler: Los Parados means "the standing ones," and there are no seats, just a counter and a condiment station where you build your own plate of onions, lime, and salsa morita. It's a cheap, fast taquería on Avenida Monterrey, good for a mid-afternoon snack. The chile poblano con queso tacos cost about $2.50 for two, the goat tripe is the specialty, and the arroz con leche is a dessert taquerías rarely bother with.

Eleven rooms wrapped around a colonial courtyard that looks barely touched since the sixteenth century, with wrought-iron bed frames, patterned tile bathrooms, and regional artwork on every wall. This boutique hotel sits two blocks from San Miguel's famous pink granite parish church, so the city is immediate the moment you step outside. Spa treatments and a gallery showcasing local artists round things out for a property that carries the feel of a very well-kept family home.

Concrete-clad villas open onto private jungle gardens with hammocks and plunge pools, and the hotel gently nudges you to skip the AC and lean into the Tulum heat. This boutique resort on the forested west side threads a familiar needle: real atmosphere, real comfort. The spa blends Maya and Buddhist traditions, including a shaman-led Temazcal sweat lodge, which either sounds like exactly your thing or a polite way to ruin a Tuesday.

Every villa opens onto a private plunge pool and garden, which is the quickest way to explain why guests at this boutique hotel in La Veleta, Tulum's residential-cool neighborhood, tend to go feral and skip the beach entirely. The grounds read as deep jungle despite being minutes from the ruins and the coast. Mayan architectural bones meet modern clean lines throughout, and the restaurant pairs Mediterranean and Mexican cooking while the bar takes creative liberties with mezcal and tequila.

The voco brand's first Mexican outpost sits on Avenida Pablo Neruda in Guadalajara's financial district, which is either a happy coincidence or very good marketing. The hotel leans into a quasi-minimalist, modernist look, softened by artwork that nods to local life. Its one restaurant, Querida Luna, does the heavy lifting on atmosphere with a seventh-floor terrace and views to match, while the surrounding Neruda 2828 development handles everything else.

Four cottages around a saltwater pool, a few blocks back from the Baja coastline in a town that went from surf village to weekend pilgrimage faster than anyone planned. Rank 547. Tacos Hola El Güero
Mexican
Big ceramic pots of guisado tacos lined up at the counter in Condesa, this old-school taqueria has been feeding the neighborhood forever. You order at the window, pick your fillings, tortilla count, and toppings, then find a table outside. The bold color palette here is a deliberate rebuke to the all-white boutique hotel playbook that dominates this stretch of coast. With 23 suites drawing from Far Eastern villa design as much as Mayan influence, the architecture plays clever games with tropical light: opening rooms to the breeze while cutting the brutal midday glare. Junior suites have whirlpool tubs that spill onto the balcony. The pool deck does double duty, a sunning spot by day and the social center by night.

A window cut into the floor of the Naia suite looks down into an abandoned 18th-century tunnel, which sets the tone for this six-room boutique hotel in San Miguel's historic center. The late fashion photographer Deborah Turbeville lived here for decades and gave it its name. Her suite is one of several, each distinct, some with fireplaces, some with balconies. A rooftop terrace with a hot tub and bar rounds things out nicely.

The lobby is designed to feel like a cave, which sounds like a complaint but lands as a compliment. This resort threads the needle between boutique hotel and sprawling all-inclusive by planting itself in central Playa del Carmen rather than marooned on a beach strip. An open-air promenade runs from the entrance to the water past bars and street food stands, and the spa is modeled after a cenote. Rooms have balconies; swim-up rooms have exactly what that implies.

A 300-year-old residence turned five-room boutique hotel, wrapped around a courtyard that still feels more private home than lobby. This family-owned boutique hotel in Playa del Carmen keeps things small and personal, with colorful tilework, soft neutrals, and unpretentious furniture that skews modernist. The architect Miguel Ángel Aragonés called them "floating boxes," and that's the right way to think about this resort in the quieter, more upscale San José del Cabo. Stark white cubes cantilevered over still reflecting pools, pathways threading between an oceanfront pool, a spa, a gallery, and a sushi restaurant shaped like a nest over water. Rooms are pristine and modern, with floor-to-ceiling sea views. The rooftop bar exists, and you will use it repeatedly.

A hacienda-style hotel just outside San Miguel's historic center, complete with stone archways, landscaped gardens, a big pool, and a full lienzo charro, which is, yes, a Spanish-style bullring on the grounds. The on-site restaurant does Baja-Yucatán fusion, and bicycles and golf carts handle the rest.

Why #567, between #566 and #568
The places on either side also show 69. This one's exact Score is 68.7, the one above is 68.8 and the one below is 68.6, so it ranks between them. We round what you see, but we rank on the exact number.

The palapa roofs and Balinese-style huts are named for the Mayan sun god of universal consciousness, which tells you everything about the vibe before you've unpacked. This boutique resort on the Tulum coast keeps things deliberately low-impact and open to the breeze, with suites and freestanding cabañas that look straight out to sea. An onsite restaurant serves Mexican-Caribbean cooking, and there's a full vegan café, which remains a novelty even here.

Three distinct beachfront villas on Tulum's hotel strip, available individually or however the math works out for your group. Casa Chakté has the drama, with soaring ceilings and a jungle garden doing most of the decorating. Casa Chechén hides itself in endemic greenery with a pool tucked in like a secret. All three come furnished in Yucatán artisan work, with a concierge ready to arrange private chefs, water excursions, and dinner reservations.

An open-air restaurant hidden inside a jungle resort up a dusty road, where overhead fans and misters keep both the guests and the greenery comfortable. A Middle Eastern restaurant tucked down a cobblestone alley in Oaxaca, which tells you something about how creative this city has gotten. The menu is short and built for sharing, with the kitchen sourcing its ingredients from local farms, then turning them into falafel, lamb kebab, and baklava that have nothing to apologize for. The dining room inside Solaz resort opens toward the ocean with the kind of airiness that makes a hotel restaurant feel like it actually wants to be there. This is fine dining built around Baja ingredients and locally caught seafood, with octopus and bluefin tuna showing up in forms more considered than the poolside menu a few steps away. The churro with dark chocolate ice cream and tequila cream lands as a dessert, not an afterthought.

A surf town like Puerto Escondido doesn't usually invite serious kitchen ambition, but Almoraduz has been making Oaxacan cooking its whole project for years. The kitchen runs on burning logs that cooks move by hand, which tells you most of what you need to know. This open-air countryside restaurant south of Oaxaca City sits inside an expansive shed ringed by plants, pottery, and sweet woodsmoke. The smell of the grill reaches you before the restaurant does, which is a decent way to find anything tucked down a colorful Jalatlaco side street. Mexican
A white stucco house with a terra-cotta roof in downtown Ensenada, Madre is a small, warm Mexican restaurant where two intimate dining rooms and a bar wrap around an open kitchen. The menu is short and focused, moving from coastal seafood starters into pasta and roasted meats finished with house-made mole. The kind of neighborhood place that makes you wish your neighborhood was in Baja.

Rank 570. Malix Restaurant
Mexican
The U-shaped bar counter and open kitchen give this Polanco restaurant a lively transparency, everything visible, nothing hidden behind a pass. The menu wanders freely, pairing local Mexican producers with global instincts, Lao-style sausage alongside house mole, pâté with madeleines, a long cheese list. Beige leather banquettes and lacquered tables fill the room with a calm that the food quietly contradicts. The Michelin Guide has it selected.
