  1. A converted bungalow in Montrose hung with vinyl records, Nobie's is the kind of New American neighborhood restaurant that makes you feel vaguely guilty for not living closer. The menu runs from creative vegetable dishes to very serious pie, baked daily and non-negotiable. The staff treats everyone like a regular, which is either charming or slightly eerie depending on how you feel about warmth. A Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  2. A sandwich bar that also takes cocktails seriously, Your Only Friend sits in Shaw with a menu full of pun names and a genuinely considered drinks list. The sandwiches lean into comfort food done with some wit, and the sides and bar snacks fill out a meal without much effort. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, which means the kitchen is doing something right at a price that won't sting.

  3. Rank 2403. Nam Giao

    Vietnamese

Steamed rice cakes topped with fried pork rinds arrive at nearly every table in this Little Saigon restaurant, and plenty of regulars stop right there and just keep ordering them. The kitchen specializes in the elegant cuisine of Hue, central Vietnam, and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The server will warn you that you've ordered too much, which is your cue that the order is about right.

  4. Rank 2404. Domu

    Creative Japanese Noodle Shop

Starburst light fixtures bounce off a marble bar and concrete floors at this ramen shop in a quiet Orlando neighborhood. The chef, a James Beard semifinalist with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, builds bowls that swing between classical Japanese technique and flat-out invention, the kind of menu where the dish names alone tip you off that things are going to get interesting. Order ramen, then maybe the blistered shishitos while you wait for the second bowl you'll talk yourself into.

  5. A 21-story boutique hotel on Cooper Square where no two rooms share the same layout, so a skyline view is a conversation you have at booking, not a guarantee. The interiors lean into East Village energy, all Bluetooth speakers, stocked minibars, and oversized towels, but the social spaces and rotating cultural programming are the real draw for guests who treat the lobby as part of the itinerary.

  6. A tasting menu restaurant in the Columbia River Gorge where one chef handles both the savory and pastry sides of the kitchen, which is either deeply impressive or mildly terrifying depending on your perspective. The New York Times named a rhubarb-and-apple dessert here among the best restaurant desserts eaten across the country in 2025, and it holds a AAA Four Diamond rating. Hood River turns out to be an excellent reason to drive east.

  7. The foie gras Monte Cristo at brunch should tell you where this is headed. Obélix is a white-tablecloth French bistro in River North where duck, foie gras, and pâté en croûte run through a menu of hearty classics, all made in-house. The sun-drenched dining room fills with seafood platters and bottles of wine at a pace that suggests nobody here came to be sensible. Save room: the pastries alone make a case for staying through dessert.

  8. Kyōten is a tiny omakase counter on Armitage where the Edomae style means fish gets marinated and aged before it reaches you, and the rice is seasoned with red vinegar. Dinner runs north of $400 a head, so dress like someone who has already made peace with the bill. It was Chicago's trailblazing omakase when it opened, and the chef took Chef of the Year at The Banchets. The cheaper Kyōten Next Door offers the same purism.

  9. Every bagel here comes out hot, and that's non-negotiable. This Greenwich Village bagel shop forgoes the plastic knife entirely: you rip, you dip into one of several cream cheeses pulled straight from the fridge, and that's the deal. The bagels run smaller and darker than the New York standard, which will either bother you or convert you. The New York Times and Eater have both put it on their short lists, so the line is rarely short.

  10. A Havana-via-Hemingway resort sitting just off Scottsdale's main drag, where the whole premise is that you're not in the Arizona desert, even when the Arizona desert is right there. Eight acres of hammocks and two pools, one with a sandy beach, do a lot of convincing. Rooms run Art Deco and mid-century, heavy on walnut and brass. The on-site restaurant serves Cuban-American food, and yes, craft cocktails arrive in pineapples.

  11. Cowboy boots and whiskey bottles share shelf space with teapots and lanterns, which tells you everything about what Kemuri Tatsu-ya is trying to do. It's a casual izakaya and BBQ shop where brisket comes in a sesame-pecan rub and taiyaki gets stuffed with corn bread, and somehow none of it feels like a gimmick. Most dishes land in the middle of the table, so bring people. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand.

  12. Ski valet at the base of the lift sets the tone at this Auberge Collection hotel in Telluride's Mountain Village. The renovated 83-room property looks like a modern Swiss chateau, with fireplaces, wood beams, and colorful art keeping it from tipping into total ski-lodge cliche. Suites have kitchenettes and balconies over the slopes. The outdoor pool sits ringed by mountains, and the Timber Room's double-sided fireplace does its job extremely well. Forbes Four Star and a Michelin Key.

  13. Rank 2413. Tratto

    Italian

Chris Bianco's trattoria keeps a rotating pasta menu built around local flours matched to specific shapes, which sounds precious until you taste it. The kitchen runs classic cacio e pepe alongside whatever Arizona's season hands them, and the drink program goes equally deep into esoteric Italian amari and house-made liqueurs. The New York Times put it on their restaurant list, and the room feels like it earned that quietly.

  15. Floor-to-ceiling windows face the Manhattan skyline across the Hudson, which is about as pointed a statement as a hotel can make without saying a word. The W Hoboken is a full-service hotel with the brand's signature bold graphics, loud color, and buzzy public spaces, plus a spa and fitness center for the morning after. Halifax handles the seafood side, and the Living Room bar runs craft cocktails with live music.

  16. Rank 2417. Cervo's

    Portuguese Seafood

Mosaic tiles, warm wood, and a room where everyone is happily crammed elbow to elbow set the scene at this Iberian seafood spot on Canal Street. The kitchen draws from the coastal traditions of Spain and Portugal, leaning into briny, bright flavors without apology. The fish preparations are the reason to come. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, and Bon Appétit once named it among America's best new restaurants.

  17. Rank 2418. Little Miss BBQ

    Central Texas Barbecue

The line outside most mornings tells you what kind of place this is before you even smell the smoke. Little Miss BBQ is a Central Texas-style barbecue shop where the brisket gets sliced to order with a thick smoke ring, and the Thursday-only pastrami runs a deep, almost beet-red from its pepper rub. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and the team behind it earned a James Beard semifinalist nod.

  18. A mural of Michelle Obama in a hanbok greets you at the door, which sets the tone for a Korean steakhouse that doesn't take the expected route. The room is sleek but warm, with large windows onto Milwaukee Ave. and a semi-open kitchen. The menu reads like familiar Korean comfort food seen sideways, banchan on every table, kimchi stew, fire chicken, and Wagyu tartare brightened with Asian pear. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand.

    Contemporary Mediterranean

A contemporary Mediterranean restaurant named for Queen Charlotte's mother, which is the sort of local-history flex only this city would attempt. The menu folds Southern habits into the Levant and the French bistro, so hanger steak frites and labneh chicken coexist without a fight. Solo diners claim the bar while the dressed-up date-night tables fill in, and Michelin lists it as a Selected Restaurant.

  20. A trailer parked beside a gas station on the highway, picnic tables only, no dining room in sight. That's the full setup at this BBQ shop in Spring, and Texas Monthly put it on their list of the state's 50 best joints anyway. The Michelin Guide added a Bib Gourmand, which is the kind of thing that happens when the brisket is smoked right. Check their social before you go; the daily specials move fast.

  21. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls frame a sweeping Phoenix skyline view, which does most of the decorating in this contemporary fine dining room beside the historic Wrigley Mansion. 24. Rank 2423. Sea Harbour

    Cantonese

Dim sum ordered off a menu rather than flagged down from a cart means everything arrives from the steamer still properly hot, which sounds obvious until you've had the other kind. This Cantonese seafood restaurant in Rosemead holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and draws the kind of crowd that fills large round tables for both weekend dim sum and proper evening dinners. The seafood is the reason to stay through dinner.

  25. Rank 2426. Pine & Crane

    Taiwanese Café

The clay pot of three-cup Jidori chicken arrives at your table still simmering, which tells you everything about how seriously this casual Taiwanese restaurant takes itself. Exposed brick, concrete floors, and a laid-back South LA vibe don't telegraph the kitchen's precision, but the Michelin Bib Gourmand does. Vegetarian takes on mapo tofu and dumplings hold their own alongside the meat dishes, and the lotus root salad is quietly worth ordering.

  26. South Indian small plates anchor the menu at this casual, cheerful restaurant, where orange booths and bright accents set the mood on a stretch of Orange Blossom Trail you'd typically blow past. The dosa stuffed with potato, paneer, and cabbage served with coconut sambal and curry gravy for dipping tells you something about the kitchen's ambition. Vegetarians eat well here, too. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  27. The bar keeps dog biscuits on hand, a nod to the chef's late dog whose nickname gives this Summerhill restaurant its name. Chef Jarrett Stieber runs an open kitchen with a menu that shifts constantly, spanning the globe without any particular allegiance to one corner of it. A prix fixe runs alongside the à la carte. Locals pack it, often with their own dogs in tow, so book ahead. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand.

  29. Tucked into Little Saigon on the North Side, this Oaxacan restaurant draws a room full of people who have been to Oaxaca and know the difference. The focused menu runs to pork tamales with green mole and wide, crackling tlayudas, all brought to the table with quiet care. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and the kind of place where regulars probably have opinions about your order. The neighborhood setting keeps the vibe relaxed; the cooking does not return the favor.

  30. Rank 2430. Killen's BBQ

    Barbecue

The line forms before the doors open at eleven, and the crowd moves fast through what was once Pearland's first school cafeteria. This is a serious Texas barbecue joint with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, where the beef rib comes off the smoker out back with a crust of salt and pepper and a give that a spoon could handle. The pork belly burnt ends in pepper jelly sauce are the kind of thing your cardiologist would prefer you not know about.

    Modern Yucatecan

Cochinita pibil marinated in citrus and achiote, pulled and served with fresh tortillas, is the kind of dish that makes Yucatán cooking click. This modern Mexican restaurant in Tustin focuses on the smoke- and spice-driven food of the peninsula, and it holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Mezcal cocktails come customized with tamarind and mole bitters, and the charred habanero salsa arrives whether you ordered it or not, which is the right call.

  33. The levain here has its own following, and regulars make the trek out to the Outer Sunset specifically for a thick slice with house-cultured butter. This cozy, salvaged-wood neighborhood restaurant keeps a short seasonal menu: roasted chicken, a slow-cooked Bolognese, honest food that doesn't overthink itself. Weekend brunch adds pastries worth the foggy commute. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which the bread alone might justify.

  34. Rank 2435. Michael's Genuine

    American Gastropub

The courtyard at this Design District gastropub has been full since before the neighborhood had boutiques worth shopping in. Michael Schwartz's wood-fired, farm-sourced menu holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and landed a New York Times best-of list, which hasn't made the regulars any harder to find. Concrete floors, a good bar, and a crowd that ranges from deal-closers to friend-catchers keep the room feeling like somewhere rather than somewhere to be seen.

  35. The omakase option is how regulars talk about this place, and the downtown room backs it up with a charged, buzzy atmosphere that makes sitting still feel like a missed opportunity. Nobu Downtown is fine-dining Japanese in a sleek, energetic space on Broadway, where the menu leans into small plates built for sharing. The celebrity-chef brand is global at this point, but the kitchen keeps the standards high.

  36. Rank 2437. Glen Ellen Star

    Californian

A wood-burning oven anchors the room in this cottage-sized California restaurant in the Sonoma Valley, and almost everything that comes out of it earns its place on the menu. The chef did time at the French Laundry before settling into something cozier, and the seasonal wood-fired cooking here has a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard semifinalist nod to show for it. Biodynamic produce from a nearby farm keeps the vegetable dishes honest.

  37. The name is a riff on barbacoa, which tells you exactly where to focus at this East Austin taco trailer. Picnic tables sit under shade and fans, and the barbacoa itself is slow and serious, folded into tacos with pinto beans and chicharrón or wrapped in a beet-red tortilla with gooey cheese. A Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard semifinalist nod confirm what the line already suggests. A second location has since opened on 6th Street.

  38. Massive windows facing the Gulf handle most of the design work at this Forbes Four Star resort, letting the light do what the sand-toned marble and blue accents quietly suggest. Part of the Marassi Al Bahrain complex on the island's northwest shore, it keeps its food and beverage operation deliberately focused: one restaurant, a garden terrace for evening drinks, and afternoon tea in the lounge. The spa runs until ten, for guests who refuse to choose between a massage and a sunset.

  39. Rank 2439. da Gama Canteen

    Indian Portuguese

The menu at this casual Houston Heights spot traces the old Portuguese trading routes through Goa and East Africa, which makes for a sharper, stranger combination than the usual fusion pitch. Small plates move between Indian spicing and Portuguese technique without much fuss. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, and the custard tarts at the end make a convincing argument for the whole journey.

  40. Rank 2441. Anchor Oyster Bar

    Old-School Seafood

The line out the door on Castro is a permanent fixture, not a trend. Anchor is an old-school seafood spot, tiny and unfussy, better suited to two than a crowd, with a menu that stays short so everything on it can be good. The cioppino is the reason regulars never open the menu by the second visit. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the oysters arrive briny enough to make the mignonette feel optional.

  41. Penn Quarter's modern Indian restaurant earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by taking traditional regional cooking seriously, then quietly upgrading it, naan by naan. The room is relaxed but the kitchen isn't cutting corners: expect paneer and slow-cooked dishes built on good ingredients rather than approximations of them. The cocktail list, including an alcohol-free selection, gets equal attention, which is either reassuring or a warning about how long you'll linger.

  42. Dark green ceiling, brass chandeliers, and live plants spilling overhead set the scene at this chic little prix-fixe spot near Lake Merritt. The deal is a three-course Italian dinner, two choices per course, no reservations. House-made pasta with a slow-braised tomato sugo is the constant around which everything else rotates. The wine list leans interesting and uses symbols so you don't need a sommelier. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which tracks.

  43. While the rest of Palm Springs does mid-century California, this 11-room adults-only hideaway is cosplaying 1960s St. Tropez, and somehow it works. Sunny colors, bohemian interiors, a pool built for lingering, and an orchard that makes you forget the desert is right there. Breakfast is included; dinner you'll find nearby with a little help from the staff. A Michelin Key property.

  44. A converted motor lodge on Sunset Boulevard, Le Petit Pali Brentwood is a 25-room boutique hotel tucked into one of LA's quieter, leafier neighborhoods. Four bungalow buildings wrap around patios with stone fountains and string lights strung over Adirondack chairs, giving it the feel of a private garden compound. Brentwood runs short on hotels by design, so staying here is about as close as you get to the residential calm the locals guard so carefully. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

  45. Sitting inside an open-air shopping village just across the river from downtown Tampa, this Palisociety boutique hotel brings the brand's California-by-way-of-Europe sensibility to the Gulf Coast without it feeling out of place. Hyde Park is a quietly upscale residential pocket, and the hotel fits the neighborhood, colorful and eclectic without trying too hard. It holds a Michelin Key.

    The awards

  46. Bathtubs carved from old horse troughs are the giveaway that Sparrows Lodge has a point of view. This Michelin Key boutique hotel wears its ranch bones lightly: recycled mid-century wood, a red barn that opens for dinner and drinks at night, and a pool ringed by guests in retro swimwear who look like they read actual books. Horseshoes, wooden tennis rackets, private campfires. Summer camp, basically, for people with good taste in cocktails.

    The awards

  47. The rooftop deck sits above the old town square with a view of the same Teton skyline that's been pulling people here forever. The Cloudveil is a boutique hotel that threads the needle between mountain-lodge warmth and the kind of sharp, contemporary detail that reads as quietly expensive. Stone and timber nod to the Rockies without going full taxidermy. It holds a Michelin Key, which seems about right for a place this considered.

  54. The Beaux-Arts bones alone justify a slow lap through the lobby. The Ned NoMad is a hotel that takes socializing as seriously as sleep, with guests getting access to members-only spaces including a whimsically muraled downstairs club. NoMad puts the Empire State Building and Madison Square Park in easy walking range while Downtown stays close enough for a late night. The kind of place where you feel like you're in on something, even as a tourist.

  55. Jackets are required, which should tell you everything about the register here. This fine dining landmark sits right under the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Manhattan skyline fills the windows the way a painting would if you couldn't afford the real thing. The prix fixe menu is formal and unhurried, the waitstaff operate with genuine poise, and couples have been proposing at these tables for decades.

  56. Glowing jars of preserved lemons and backlit wine bottles line the walls at this warm California-Mediterranean brasserie near 26th Street, which has the feel of a very well-dressed farmhouse. The menu leans into the kind of sun-soaked, produce-forward cooking that makes New York briefly forget it's New York. The room fills with people who know exactly what they're doing here, which is a compliment.

  58. The marble lobby skips every mouse ear in a ten-mile radius, which tells you what kind of resort this is. The JW Marriott Bonnet Creek sits close enough to the parks to catch the EPCOT fireworks from the sixth-floor Activity Garden, yet the design runs cool and geometric rather than costumed. A sprawling pool, mini golf, and a rock-climbing wall mean families aren't exactly suffering, just doing it in a quieter register.

  59. A waterfall that ignites with flames at night sets the tone for this sprawling desert resort, where four themed pools compete for your attention and two championship golf courses fill the gaps. At 950 rooms across 300 Sonoran Desert acres, "going back to the room" barely narrows things down. Eight restaurants mean you can avoid ever leaving, which, in Phoenix in July, is a feature not a flaw.

  60. A Craftsman-style resort perched above the Pacific, where the stained glass and Stickley-influenced furniture make it feel more like a very grand lodge than a hotel. Guests sleep in rooms with ocean or golf course views, many with fireplaces, and those who play can tee off on the adjacent championship course at Torrey Pines. The kind of place that makes you feel obscurely guilty if you spend the whole day inside.

José Andrés fills this mezze restaurant with the energy of a market that never quite closes, the open kitchen turning meat on spits while the room hums in Aegean blues. The wide-ranging menu covers dips and pita, flatbreads, smoky vegetables, and braised lamb, built for sharing and grazing in whatever order feels right. The bar pours coastal spirits and riffs on classics. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

A Federal-period Georgetown townhouse carved into six dining rooms across three floors, each one feeling like it belongs to a different century of the same family. This is the fine dining room where Georgetown parents take their kids to celebrate things, and the veteran servers have clearly done this long enough to find the whole ritual quietly amusing. The French-influenced New American kitchen runs on classic instincts, and holds a AAA Four Diamond rating.

  68. A seafood tower announces itself before dinner even starts, which sets the tone nicely for this polished hotel steakhouse on the second floor above Peachtree Street. Steaks and chops anchor the menu, with sides served à la carte for the table. The room has an old-world feel that business-casual Atlanta takes to with enthusiasm. AAA Four Diamonds. Reservations are the move, and the dress code is business casual or better.

A prix-fixe restaurant on Folsom Boulevard where the pasta is made in-house and the wine list leans hard into Italy, with pairings overseen by the beverage director. The Cal-Italian kitchen follows the seasons and favors West Coast seafood. You choose three, four, or five courses, which is either pleasantly low-stakes or a surprisingly consequential decision depending on your appetite. A Michelin Selected restaurant.

    Indian

Pendant lights strung with thick grass ropes and a gleaming marble bar signal that this is a fine dining Indian restaurant with a point of view, not just a curry house in a jacket. The kitchen has a taste for unexpected combinations and sharp presentation, with the menu moving across regions rather than playing it safe. Flatiron regulars who know to book ahead fill tables that have been sought-after for years.

    Traditional Sushi

The live-edge elm counter is the first thing you notice, a single dramatic slab anchored by oyster leather chairs and a slatted wood ceiling that reads Japanese-chic without trying too hard. This is an omakase sushi counter in SoMa, and the nightly progression moves through sashimi, soup, and nigiri using enough techniques to keep each course distinct. Kelp tea opens things; Santa Barbara sea urchin over Hokkaido scallop shows where the kitchen's ambitions land.

    Italian

Tucked into a residential building on Peachtree, La Grotta has been an old-school institution for northern Italian fine dining in Atlanta. The room is quiet and elegant, the kind where people linger over an extensive, owner-curated wine list rather than check their phones. A patio with a fountain and lush landscaping handles warmer nights. It holds a AAA Four Diamond rating.

  96. The olive-green velvet and marble floors aren't decorating choices so much as a thesis statement: this is a French fine-dining room where the vegetables are the point and the fish and meat play supporting roles. The chef builds a produce-driven tasting menu with the kind of seasonal precision that makes a lemon tart with tarragon ice cream feel inevitable rather than precious. Midtown somehow disappears entirely once you're inside.

  98. The gleaming open kitchen is the first thing you see, all stainless steel and quiet drama, before the eight-course French tasting menu even begins. It started as an underground dinner party circuit, which explains the intimate feel that downtown Brooklyn's fancier arrivals don't quite manage. The team walks you through wine pairings course by course. An AAA Four Diamond restaurant, and the room takes that seriously without making you feel graded.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
