  2. Naan as a pizza base, naan as a butter chicken calzone brushed with ghee, naan as the main argument for coming back: this Logan Square Indian restaurant has built a personality around the flatbread, then filled out the menu with Kerala crab curry and chana chaat to prove it isn't a one-trick kitchen. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, with a James Beard semifinalist nod behind it. The exposed brick and long bar make the room feel loose, which matches the cooking.

  3. Rank 2006. La Tejana

    Mexican

Flour tortillas wrapped tight in foil are the move at this fast-casual breakfast taco counter in Mt. Pleasant, which grew out of a pop-up and earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand doing it. The menu is short on purpose: coffee, soft scrambled eggs, creamy pinto beans, chorizo, brisket, and queso. No reservations, no long-term planning required. Come with a hangover or come without one; either way, the tacos will sort things out.

  4. Rank 2006. The Red Hen

    Italian

Reclaimed timber, exposed brick, and beamed ceilings make this Bloomingdale spot feel like a farmhouse that somehow ended up in DC. It's a rustic Italian restaurant where the pastas do the heavy lifting, particularly a rigatoni with fennel sausage ragù that regulars order without looking up. The three-sided bar is your best friend if you didn't plan ahead. The Michelin Guide has awarded it a Bib Gourmand.

  5. Rank 2008. Fù Huì Huá

    Huaiyang Sushi

Eight seats, eight seatings a week, and a reservation list that moves like continental drift. Fù Huì Huá is an omakase counter on 24th Street where a father-son team serves a tasting menu rooted in Huaiyang cuisine, shaped by time in Shanghai and Japan. The format reads kaiseki; the food is entirely Chinese. The San Francisco Chronicle ranked it among the top ten restaurants in the Bay Area.

  6. Rank 2009. Mandolin Aegean Bistro

    Eastern Mediterranean

The blue door and whitewashed facade in Miami's Design District look like someone shipped a Greek island courtyard over wholesale, and the interior mostly confirms it: mature trees, orchids, and ceiling fans shading wood tables outdoors. This mezze-heavy Mediterranean bistro earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand on small plates, baked feta, and grilled fish, with house bread arriving in little paper bags. The honey pie with salted shortbread crust is the reason to save room.

  7. Salt-and-pepper-crusted brisket smoked in the Austin tradition is the reason people line up at this Lincoln Heights barbecue shop. What started as a weekend backyard hobby grew into a proper room with a craft beer bar to keep you company while you wait. The Michelin Bib Gourmand is on record, and the James Beard committee has taken notice too. Come early; things sell out, and "we ran out" is the one review nobody wants.

  8. The whole room is named after a dog, which tells you something about the energy here. Mabel's is an upscale-casual seafood spot in North Park where the menu leans into California-meets-Iberia, raw oysters and crudos on one end, swordfish schnitzel with salsa verde and tonnato on the other. Natural wines and gin cocktails fill the gaps. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and Esquire called it one of the best new restaurants in America.

  9. Rank 2012. Kismet

    Middle Eastern

Persian crispy rice arrives with egg yolks that make sharing a genuine moral dilemma. Kismet is a casual Middle Eastern restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard where seasonal vegetables and bright flavors run the show, and nothing on the table feels heavy. The Michelin Bib Gourmand room draws a Los Feliz crowd that looks like they biked here and also know exactly what they're ordering. The staff matches the energy perfectly.

  10. A refurbished car wash with vendors in the old bays is an unlikely home for some of the most focused cooking in Nashville. S.S. Gai is a chicken house with a single obsession: Thai street-style fried chicken, crispy in that way that makes you slow down and pay attention, served with sticky rice and tamarind chili fish sauce. The Michelin Bib Gourmand and a New York Times nod suggest the obsession is well-placed. Order at the window and don't skip the mango sticky rice.

  11. Rank 2014. Coro

    Creative Italian

The kitchen sends out a warm bite the moment you sit down, and it sets the tone for everything that follows at this creative fine dining spot in Audubon Park. Chef Tim Lovero runs an ever-changing shared plates menu where dessert might arrive as panna cotta with cocoa nibs and actual French fries, which sounds chaotic and somehow isn't. A Michelin Bib Gourmand for a room this inventive feels almost cheeky.

  12. Kaiseki Yuzu is a tiny, tasting-menu-only Japanese room in a Chinatown strip mall, where a slab of otoro the size of a paperback makes several appearances over ten courses. The chef was a James Beard nominee for Best Chef: Southwest, and still cracks jokes while sculpting fish into small, serious-looking things. Expect two-plus hours, some gold leaf, and enough room afterward to cross the street for a tiki drink.

  13. The menu at this tiny taco shop on Pulaski is exactly one thing: birria, slow-stewed goat, served bone-in or bone-out, on a plate with handmade corn tortillas or drowning in a bowl of rich consommé. That's it. The bone-in is the move, and the quesadilla is the move you make when no one's watching. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and a room where nobody's there to be seen.

  14. Rank 2017. Cuantos Tacos

    Mexico City-style

The suadero taco here, finished with nothing but onion and cilantro, is what draws a line to this East Austin food truck. The meat cooks in a traditional chorizera pan, and the bright yellow masa tortillas come out paper-thin and full of flavor. Mexico City-style is the whole brief, kept tight. A Michelin Bib Gourmand, and a New York Times pick. Order at the window, find a spot in the shared picnic area, and don't skip the grilled onions.

  15. A converted bungalow in Montrose hung with vinyl records, Nobie's is the kind of New American neighborhood restaurant that makes you feel vaguely guilty for not living closer. The menu runs from creative vegetable dishes to very serious pie, baked daily and non-negotiable. The staff treats everyone like a regular, which is either charming or slightly eerie depending on how you feel about warmth. A Michelin Bib Gourmand.

The sandwiches lean into comfort food done with some wit, and the sides and bar snacks fill out a meal without much effort. 17. Rank 2020. Nam Giao

    Vietnamese

Steamed rice cakes topped with fried pork rinds arrive at nearly every table in this Little Saigon restaurant, and plenty of regulars stop right there and just keep ordering them. The kitchen specializes in the elegant cuisine of Hue, central Vietnam, and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. The server will warn you that you've ordered too much, which is your cue that the order is about right.

  18. The fountain show out front sets the tone: this is Las Vegas at its most theatrical, and the hotel leans into every inch of it. Inside, a 50-foot glass conservatory fills with thousands of blooming plants, changed out seasonally by a crew that takes the assignment very seriously. The resort runs a full roster of restaurants, from Picasso to Michael Mina, plus a buffet that has no interest in pretending to be modest.

  19. Rank 2021. Domu

    Creative Japanese Noodle Shop

Starburst light fixtures bounce off a marble bar and concrete floors at this ramen shop in a quiet Orlando neighborhood. The chef, a James Beard semifinalist with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, builds bowls that swing between classical Japanese technique and flat-out invention, the kind of menu where the dish names alone tip you off that things are going to get interesting. Order ramen, then maybe the blistered shishitos while you wait for the second bowl you'll talk yourself into.

  20. A tasting menu restaurant in the Columbia River Gorge where one chef handles both the savory and pastry sides of the kitchen, which is either deeply impressive or mildly terrifying depending on your perspective. The New York Times named a rhubarb-and-apple dessert here among the best restaurant desserts eaten across the country in 2025, and it holds a AAA Four Diamond rating. Hood River turns out to be an excellent reason to drive east.

  21. The foie gras Monte Cristo at brunch should tell you where this is headed. Obélix is a white-tablecloth French bistro in River North where duck, foie gras, and pâté en croûte run through a menu of hearty classics, all made in-house. The sun-drenched dining room fills with seafood platters and bottles of wine at a pace that suggests nobody here came to be sensible. Save room: the pastries alone make a case for staying through dessert.

  22. Kyōten is a tiny omakase counter on Armitage where the Edomae style means fish gets marinated and aged before it reaches you, and the rice is seasoned with red vinegar. Dinner runs north of $400 a head, so dress like someone who has already made peace with the bill. It was Chicago's trailblazing omakase when it opened, and the chef took Chef of the Year at The Banchets. The cheaper Kyōten Next Door offers the same purism.

  23. Every bagel here comes out hot, and that's non-negotiable. This Greenwich Village bagel shop forgoes the plastic knife entirely: you rip, you dip into one of several cream cheeses pulled straight from the fridge, and that's the deal. The bagels run smaller and darker than the New York standard, which will either bother you or convert you. The New York Times and Eater have both put it on their short lists, so the line is rarely short.

  24. Cowboy boots and whiskey bottles share shelf space with teapots and lanterns, which tells you everything about what Kemuri Tatsu-ya is trying to do. It's a casual izakaya and BBQ shop where brisket comes in a sesame-pecan rub and taiyaki gets stuffed with corn bread, and somehow none of it feels like a gimmick. Most dishes land in the middle of the table, so bring people. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand.

  25. Ski valet at the base of the lift sets the tone at this Auberge Collection hotel in Telluride's Mountain Village. The renovated 83-room property looks like a modern Swiss chateau, with fireplaces, wood beams, and colorful art keeping it from tipping into total ski-lodge cliche. Suites have kitchenettes and balconies over the slopes. The outdoor pool sits ringed by mountains, and the Timber Room's double-sided fireplace does its job extremely well. Forbes Four Star and a Michelin Key.

  26. Rank 2029. Tratto

    Italian

Chris Bianco's trattoria keeps a rotating pasta menu built around local flours matched to specific shapes, which sounds precious until you taste it. The kitchen runs classic cacio e pepe alongside whatever Arizona's season hands them, and the drink program goes equally deep into esoteric Italian amari and house-made liqueurs. The New York Times put it on their restaurant list, and the room feels like it earned that quietly.

  27. A Midtown hotel where the food obsession is baked into the architecture, not just the restaurant name. Butcher block wood, brushed metal, and food-focused art run through the rooms without tipping into theme-park territory. The Epicurean Theatre is the draw: a proper professional kitchen where guests book wine workshops, charcuterie classes, and chocolate tastings. The High Museum and Piedmont Park are both walkable, which helps justify the address.

    Portuguese Seafood

Mosaic tiles, warm wood, and a room where everyone is happily crammed elbow to elbow set the scene at this Iberian seafood spot on Canal Street. The kitchen draws from the coastal traditions of Spain and Portugal, leaning into briny, bright flavors without apology. The fish preparations are the reason to come. 32. Rank 2035. Little Miss BBQ

    Central Texas Barbecue

The line outside most mornings tells you what kind of place this is before you even smell the smoke. Little Miss BBQ is a Central Texas-style barbecue shop where the brisket gets sliced to order with a thick smoke ring, and the Thursday-only pastrami runs a deep, almost beet-red from its pepper rub. The Michelin Guide gave it a Bib Gourmand, and the team behind it earned a James Beard semifinalist nod.

  33. A mural of Michelle Obama in a hanbok greets you at the door, which sets the tone for a Korean steakhouse that doesn't take the expected route. The room is sleek but warm, with large windows onto Milwaukee Ave. and a semi-open kitchen. The menu reads like familiar Korean comfort food seen sideways, banchan on every table, kimchi stew, fire chicken, and Wagyu tartare brightened with Asian pear. The Michelin Guide awards it a Bib Gourmand.

Solo diners claim the bar while the dressed-up date-night tables fill in, and Michelin lists it as a Selected Restaurant.

  39. Rank 2040. Sea Harbour

    Cantonese

Dim sum ordered off a menu rather than flagged down from a cart means everything arrives from the steamer still properly hot, which sounds obvious until you've had the other kind. This Cantonese seafood restaurant in Rosemead holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and draws the kind of crowd that fills large round tables for both weekend dim sum and proper evening dinners. The seafood is the reason to stay through dinner.

  40. Rank 2043. Pine & Crane

    Taiwanese Café

The clay pot of three-cup Jidori chicken arrives at your table still simmering, which tells you everything about how seriously this casual Taiwanese restaurant takes itself. Exposed brick, concrete floors, and a laid-back South LA vibe don't telegraph the kitchen's precision, but the Michelin Bib Gourmand does. Vegetarian takes on mapo tofu and dumplings hold their own alongside the meat dishes, and the lotus root salad is quietly worth ordering.

  41. South Indian small plates anchor the menu at this casual, cheerful restaurant, where orange booths and bright accents set the mood on a stretch of Orange Blossom Trail you'd typically blow past. The dosa stuffed with potato, paneer, and cabbage served with coconut sambal and curry gravy for dipping tells you something about the kitchen's ambition. Vegetarians eat well here, too. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  46. A storybook 1920s inn on the Russian River, the Stavrand has been around forever and carries that easy confidence. A recent renovation kept the historical bones and layered in something warm and quietly bohemian, the kind of California dream that doesn't announce itself. The restaurant stays central to the whole project, with a team of chefs leaning hard into the produce of this absurdly fertile region. It holds two Michelin Keys.

  47. The levain here has its own following, and regulars make the trek out to the Outer Sunset specifically for a thick slice with house-cultured butter. 48. Rank 2051. Michael's Genuine

    American Gastropub

The courtyard at this Design District gastropub has been full since before the neighborhood had boutiques worth shopping in. Michael Schwartz's wood-fired, farm-sourced menu holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and landed a New York Times best-of list, which hasn't made the regulars any harder to find. Concrete floors, a good bar, and a crowd that ranges from deal-closers to friend-catchers keep the room feeling like somewhere rather than somewhere to be seen.

  49. The omakase option is how regulars talk about this place, and the downtown room backs it up with a charged, buzzy atmosphere that makes sitting still feel like a missed opportunity. Nobu Downtown is fine-dining Japanese in a sleek, energetic space on Broadway, where the menu leans into small plates built for sharing. The celebrity-chef brand is global at this point, but the kitchen keeps the standards high.

  51. Rank 2054. Glen Ellen Star

    Californian

A wood-burning oven anchors the room in this cottage-sized California restaurant in the Sonoma Valley, and almost everything that comes out of it earns its place on the menu. The chef did time at the French Laundry before settling into something cozier, and the seasonal wood-fired cooking here has a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard semifinalist nod to show for it. Biodynamic produce from a nearby farm keeps the vegetable dishes honest.

  52. The name is a riff on barbacoa, which tells you exactly where to focus at this East Austin taco trailer. Picnic tables sit under shade and fans, and the barbacoa itself is slow and serious, folded into tacos with pinto beans and chicharrón or wrapped in a beet-red tortilla with gooey cheese. A Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard semifinalist nod confirm what the line already suggests. A second location has since opened on 6th Street.

  53. Massive windows facing the Gulf handle most of the design work at this Forbes Four Star resort, letting the light do what the sand-toned marble and blue accents quietly suggest. Part of the Marassi Al Bahrain complex on the island's northwest shore, it keeps its food and beverage operation deliberately focused: one restaurant, a garden terrace for evening drinks, and afternoon tea in the lounge. The spa runs until ten, for guests who refuse to choose between a massage and a sunset.

  54. Rank 2056. da Gama Canteen

    Indian Portuguese

The menu at this casual Houston Heights spot traces the old Portuguese trading routes through Goa and East Africa, which makes for a sharper, stranger combination than the usual fusion pitch. Small plates move between Indian spicing and Portuguese technique without much fuss. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, and the custard tarts at the end make a convincing argument for the whole journey.

  55. Rank 2058. Anchor Oyster Bar

    Old-School Seafood

The line out the door on Castro is a permanent fixture, not a trend. Anchor is an old-school seafood spot, tiny and unfussy, better suited to two than a crowd, with a menu that stays short so everything on it can be good. The cioppino is the reason regulars never open the menu by the second visit. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the oysters arrive briny enough to make the mignonette feel optional.

  56. Penn Quarter's modern Indian restaurant earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand by taking traditional regional cooking seriously, then quietly upgrading it, naan by naan. The room is relaxed but the kitchen isn't cutting corners: expect paneer and slow-cooked dishes built on good ingredients rather than approximations of them. The cocktail list, including an alcohol-free selection, gets equal attention, which is either reassuring or a warning about how long you'll linger.

  57. Dark green ceiling, brass chandeliers, and live plants spilling overhead set the scene at this chic little prix-fixe spot near Lake Merritt. The deal is a three-course Italian dinner, two choices per course, no reservations. House-made pasta with a slow-braised tomato sugo is the constant around which everything else rotates. The wine list leans interesting and uses symbols so you don't need a sommelier. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which tracks.

  59. A preserved 19th-century house in Mount Pleasant, just across the bridge from Charleston, that was quietly converted into a boutique inn with a restaurant at its core. The room count stays small, the rooms themselves are beautifully put together, and the whole thing leans into Lowcountry charm without drowning in it, which is harder than it sounds. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

  60. The rooftop deck sits above the old town square with a view of the same Teton skyline that's been pulling people here forever. The Cloudveil is a boutique hotel that threads the needle between mountain-lodge warmth and the kind of sharp, contemporary detail that reads as quietly expensive. Stone and timber nod to the Rockies without going full taxidermy. It holds a Michelin Key, which seems about right for a place this considered.

    Modern American Steakhouse

A chef's counter tucked at the back of a bright, airy downtown room sets the tone at this fine dining steakhouse: serious proteins from a serious grill, with raw bar snacks and house-made pasta filling the space in between. The Sonoma duck has made Arizona's top dishes list, and the chef has drawn James Beard semifinalist attention twice. Share the big cuts, or let the tasting menu make the decisions for you.

  62. The Crunch Bar dessert has kept regulars coming back to this Castle Hills neighborhood restaurant long enough to feel like a local institution. The menu shifts constantly, landing somewhere between globally curious and quietly unfussy, with vegetables given real attention alongside the occasional surprise like trout roe on crispy polenta. The wine program is serious without making you feel underdressed for it. A 2023 James Beard nominee for Best Chef: Texas.

  63. Bellhops in denim and cowboy hats set the tone at this Auberge resort spread across a 712-acre working ranch on the Napa-Sonoma border. Stone and wood farmhouses serve as guest rooms, wildflowers fill the grounds, and a vast spa complex anchors the wellness side of things. The ranch aesthetic is committed but tasteful, never sliding into theme-park territory. The Michelin Guide awarded it one Key.

  65. Rank 2068. Blood Bros. BBQ

    Texas Barbecue

Gochujang-glazed ribs sit a few trays down from the brisket at this Bellaire BBQ shop, which is pretty much the thesis statement. The three childhood friends behind Blood Bros. grew up in Alief absorbing Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and Mexican flavors alongside Texas smoke, and the menu shows it. The daily specials change constantly, so the table next to yours will almost always have something you didn't order. A Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard nominee.

    Californian Southeast Asian

Neon blue letters above the open kitchen ask "did you eat yet?" and the correct answer, upon arrival, is no. This Mission small-plates spot draws on Southeast Asian and Vietnamese flavors and bends them through a California lens, with a rooftop drowning in plants and a cocktail list that leans tropical. The Michelin Guide named it a Bib Gourmand. Reservations fill fast, but the bar usually has room for walk-ins willing to show up early.

  67. Tortillas made on-site and griddled all day set the tone at this counter-service taqueria tucked into Finn Hall in downtown Houston. The chicharrón, cured pork belly with pumpkin seed vinaigrette and crispy shallots, is the kind of thing you think about later. Breakfast tacos and a cult carrot taco round out a menu that's more considered than the food-hall setting suggests. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Bib Gourmand, which tracks.

    Mediterranean Seafood

Wood smoke hangs in the air the moment you walk into this Fort Greene seafood restaurant, which should tell you something about how the kitchen operates. Chef Tomer Blechman anchors the menu around dry-aged fish and open-fire cooking, pulling from a Mediterranean pantry that keeps things interesting without announcing itself. The bar draws a crowd that clearly has opinions about natural wine, and the pita alone justifies showing up early.

  69. Jackets are required, which should tell you everything about the register here. This fine dining landmark sits right under the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Manhattan skyline fills the windows the way a painting would if you couldn't afford the real thing. The prix fixe menu is formal and unhurried, the waitstaff operate with genuine poise, and couples have been proposing at these tables for decades.

  70. Glowing jars of preserved lemons and backlit wine bottles line the walls at this warm California-Mediterranean brasserie near 26th Street, which has the feel of a very well-dressed farmhouse. The menu leans into the kind of sun-soaked, produce-forward cooking that makes New York briefly forget it's New York. The room fills with people who know exactly what they're doing here, which is a compliment.

    Cantonese

Calvin Eng's Cantonese restaurant and bar sits on a nondescript east Williamsburg corner, close enough to the BQE that you'll feel the trucks. Inside, it reads like a retro Hong Kong diner, but the kitchen runs modern interpretations of regional Cantonese food, and the MSG Martini earned a spot on Esquire's national list. The Michelin Guide gives it a Bib Gourmand, and the James Beard Foundation named Eng an Emerging Chef nominee.

  73. A 317-acre resort in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, about ten minutes from the Santa Fe plaza, Bishop's Lodge has been around forever, cycling from archbishop's residence to dude ranch before landing in its current life as an Auberge property. Kiva fireplaces and Native American art fill the rooms, while outside there's hiking, horseback riding, a heated pool, and a chapel repurposed for yoga, which feels very Santa Fe.

  74. Ten acres of Spanish colonial buildings, red-tile roofs, and sun-baked courtyards that started life as a horse ranch and never really lost the feeling of one. This La Jolla resort spreads itself unhurriedly across lush native gardens with fire pits, a heated saltwater pool, a Moroccan-inspired spa, and guest rooms that are considerably more comfortable than any stable. Three dining venues on-site means you don't have to leave if you'd rather not.

A Federal-period Georgetown townhouse carved into six dining rooms across three floors, each one feeling like it belongs to a different century of the same family. This is the fine dining room where Georgetown parents take their kids to celebrate things, and the veteran servers have clearly done this long enough to find the whole ritual quietly amusing. The French-influenced New American kitchen runs on classic instincts, and holds a AAA Four Diamond rating.

Steaks and chops anchor the menu, with sides served à la carte for the table. The room has an old-world feel that business-casual Atlanta takes to with enthusiasm. AAA Four Diamonds. Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
