  1. Rank 101. Cariño

    Latin American

The CTA rumbles overhead while the chef rattles off ingredients like an auctioneer building to a close. This intimate Uptown tasting menu spins Mexican cuisine through a restless, personal lens, moving from "chips and salsa" rendered as salsa verde jelly and tortilla crumble to a lamb tartare tostada seasoned al pastor-style. Counter seats put you close enough to watch the small team work. It holds a Michelin star and landed on the New York Times Restaurant List for 2025.

  2. Rank 102. Bresca

    Contemporary Bistro

A moss wall and a foie gras "negroni" topped with Campari gelée tell you pretty quickly that this is not a low-key bistro. Ryan Ratino's contemporary New American spot on 14th Street holds a Michelin star and earns it with cooking that is quietly surreal without being smug about it. The room is warm enough that you forget you're at a special-occasion restaurant until the check arrives.

  3. Rank 103. Vern's

    American

Candlelit tables on rich wood floors, a short menu that shifts with the seasons, and a wine list that the front-of-house half of the husband-and-wife team clearly thinks about hard. Vern's is a relaxed neighborhood restaurant with a Michelin star and a New York Times nod, which tells you everything about the gap between what it looks like and what comes out of the kitchen. Lowcountry ingredients do most of the talking; the pasta is made in house.

  4. Rank 104. Xiquet

    Spanish

A wood-fired hearth and a smoker do the heavy lifting in this fine dining room on the third floor of a Glover Park townhouse, where chef Danny Lledó builds a tasting menu around the food of Valencia. Rice cooked over the open fire is the gravitational center of the meal. The room holds only a handful of tables, and after dinner guests move to the lounge for coffee. It holds a Michelin star and AAA Five Diamonds.

  5. Rank 106. Diane’s Place

    Hmong Pan-Asian

A traditional Hmong cross-stitch pattern meaning "home" runs through the whole room, which tells you exactly what Diane Moua is going for. The neighborhood restaurant inside Minneapolis' Food Building blends Hmong-American cooking with a serious pastry program, and the two halves genuinely need each other. Food & Wine named it Restaurant of the Year, and it landed on the New York Times Restaurant List. The sesame balls have their own fan club.

  6. Rank 107. Locust

    Japanese

Reservations are scarce at this compact Japanese-influenced restaurant, and the walk-in line forms early. Chef Trevor Moran's menu is built around sharing plates with a precision that feels almost theatrical, from beef tartare hand rolls to rotating kakigori shaved into powdery, sculptural blocks. A Michelin star and a James Beard semifinalist nod signal the ambition; the laidback, buzzy room suggests nobody here is taking themselves too seriously.

  7. Rank 108. Hayato

    Japanese

One seating a night, a handful of seats, and a reservation that requires the patience of a monk. This is a two-Michelin-starred omakase counter in a strip mall on East 7th, where the chef sources, slices, and explains every course himself, plating on Japanese pottery from his personal collection. The menu chases the season hard, and the sake list runs deep for anyone who wants to go down that road with it.

  8. Penelope Wong's Park Hill lunch spot keeps limited hours, which only seems to sharpen the crowd's focus. The menu rotates around dumplings, wontons, and potstickers, with daily specials pulled from her Chinese and Thai background. Wong won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mountain, and the New York Times put this on its restaurant list, which for a weekday lunch counter is the kind of attention that makes Tuesday feel like a reservation you forgot to make.

  9. Rank 110. The Progress

    Modern American

A two-story room of wood, stone, and skylights on the Fillmore, this California-meets-Nordic restaurant is built around sharing plates bold enough to stop conversations mid-sentence. The Liberty Farms duck, arriving with a mountain of peanut fried rice, tends to get a round of applause from neighboring tables. The Progress holds a Michelin star and a James Beard nomination, and the martini has its own press clippings.

  10. Rank 111. Gift Horse

    Korean Seafood

Shuckers at the horseshoe bar crack open oysters from a dozen Rhode Island spots, and you dress them yourself with kimchi mignonette or fermented green-chile hot sauce. Gift Horse is a Korean-inflected New England seafood restaurant, the kind of place that slides littlenecks under crisp kimchi and broils butterfish in sweet-potato miso. The chef won a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northeast in 2025, and the New York Times named two dishes among the best they ate all year.

  11. A Michelin-starred Indian fine-dining restaurant inside the Galleria mall, which is either a joke or a statement, and Musaafer is clearly the latter. The grand hall, with its arches, towering windows, and labyrinthine layout, feels more like a palace than a food court neighbor. The menu traces the chef's journey across India's states, so the range is wide and the spicing is careful. The Paan Negroni at the bar is a fine place to start.

  12. A 1920s white stucco bungalow off Richmond Avenue, hung with Picasso owl jugs from the owner's private collection, is doing some of the more serious Spanish cooking in Houston. This is fine dining, so dress accordingly. The chef handles both seafood and roasted meats with the kind of confidence that makes everything feel inevitable rather than effortful. An all-Spanish wine list and a dedicated gin and tonic section round out the room. It holds a Michelin star.

  13. Rank 114. Penny

    Seafood

Two marble counters run the length of the kitchen, fronted by mounds of ice holding oysters, clams, and Champagne in roughly equal proportion. Penny is an all-bar seafood restaurant above Claud in the East Village, and the whole point is watching things get shucked, sliced, and dressed in front of you. It landed on North America's 50 Best Restaurants list. Most seats are walk-in, so arrive before doors open if you'd like one.

  14. Rank 115. Borgo

    Italian

Andrew Tarlow, the restaurateur who more or less invented the Brooklyn communal-table aesthetic, runs his only Manhattan outpost here on East 27th. The neighborhood trattoria seats you at long tables with a daily menu scrawled on butcher paper, and the food leans into the gamy, the bitter, and the slow-cooked, the things that take patience to understand. The New York Times placed it sixth on its 100 Best Restaurants list.

  15. Rank 116. n/naka

    Modern Kaiseki

A single pasta course, spaghetti with abalone and black truffle, never rotates off Niki Nakayama's menu at this intimate kaiseki tasting room in Culver City. Everything else shifts with the seasons, moving through delicate broths and grilled Miyazaki wagyu in a long, unhurried procession. Getting a table is a project in itself, but Nakayama comes out at the end to say hello, which feels less like a formality and more like the point. It holds a Michelin star.

  16. Rank 117. March

    Mediterranean

The tasting menu here rotates through a single Mediterranean region at a time, from the Maghreb to Andalusia to Greece, so what you eat depends entirely on when you show up. It's a fine dining experience with a Michelin star and serious beverage program to match, starting with cocktails in the lounge before the main dining room takes over. The whole thing moves with a warmth that keeps the ambition from tipping into ceremony.

  17. Rank 118. Balkan Treat Box

    Eastern European

The glowing copper-clad wood-fired oven at the center of the open kitchen tells you everything about priorities here. This lo-fi Balkan canteen in Webster Groves started as a food truck and kept the chaotic energy, with lines outside and regulars still debating what to order. Smoky kebabs, brown butter hummus, spectacular flatbreads. Chef Loryn Nalic holds a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Midwest.

  18. Saguaro fruit, tepary beans, and wild sumac foraged from Gila River Community land anchor the tasting menu at this fine-dining room on tribal grounds. The team turns those Sonoran Desert ingredients through a global fine-dining lens, so cactus lime pie and buffalo with saguaro syrup land somewhere genuinely unexpected. It holds a Forbes Five Star and AAA Five Diamonds, a combination that signals dress-up territory before you've even looked at the menu.

  19. Blue velvet curtains pull back at five o'clock, the line outside moves, and the handwritten menu above the open kitchen tells you what the boats brought in that day. Chubby Fish is a no-reservations seafood restaurant in Cannonborough that coordinates directly with fishers, so the raw bar and hot dishes shift constantly. It landed on the New York Times Restaurant List and North America's 50 Best. Skip lunch, get there early, and budget the full hour they'll give you.

  20. Rank 121. Sunny’s Steakhouse

    Modern Steakhouse

Stone crab claws and bone marrow vinaigrette on a classic steakhouse menu is a pretty good summary of what Little River is doing right now. Sunny's leans into the old-meets-new Florida aesthetic hard, and the room hums with a crowd that dressed for it. The steaks come in shareable or individual cuts, the sides include russet potatoes fried in chicken schmaltz, and the martini program landed on Esquire's national list. The New York Times put it on their Restaurant List for 2025.

  21. Fine dining inside The Umstead Hotel and Spa, Herons draws much of its menu from the property's own farm, which gives the kitchen a reason to be smug and the plates a reason to back it up. The chef holds a James Beard semifinalist nod and a Forbes Five Star, and the wine list runs deep enough to require a second read. AAA Five Diamonds. Dress accordingly.

  22. The counter wraps around an open kitchen in the Miami outpost of Joël Robuchon's global fine dining brand, which holds two Michelin stars and brings the full Paris treatment, rosewood walls, leather chairs, tasting menus, to the Design District. The kitchen leans on Robuchon's classics while gesturing toward local flavors. This is special-occasion territory, dressed and priced accordingly, with the kind of service that makes you feel the bill was entirely your idea.

  23. Rank 124. COTE

    Korean

Cuts of USDA Prime, American Wagyu, and Japanese A5 hang in a visible aging room before they ever reach the grill built into your table. This is a Korean barbecue steakhouse in the Flatiron, dark and moody in the way that only feels intentional when the service is this precise. Staff do the grilling, which sounds like a gimmick until it isn't. Holds a Michelin star and ranks among the World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants. The wine list is quietly serious about value.

  24. The Canlis salad gets made tableside, which tells you exactly the kind of place this is: old-school fine dining with a capital F, perched on a cliff above Lake Union with views that earn their keep. A five-course prix fixe leans into Northwest ingredients with a quiet nod to the restaurant's Hawaiian roots. Food & Wine named it among the top US restaurants in 2025, and the wine program has a hall of fame plaque to its name.

  25. Rank 126. Press

    Californian

The wine list reads like a love letter to Napa, which is fitting given that Wine Enthusiast put Press in its Restaurant Hall of Fame. This Michelin-starred tasting room off Highway 29 has a soaring dining room anchored by a fireplace, warm wood, and the comfortable hush of people who have nowhere better to be. The kitchen keeps things precise and uncluttered, letting the ingredients carry the weight rather than saucing them into submission.

  26. A tapas spot tucked into the ground floor of an East Nashville apartment building, Peninsula is the kind of place that makes you feel slightly smug for knowing about it. The cooking roams the Iberian Peninsula while borrowing freely from wherever else it pleases, landing in combinations that sound odd and taste inevitable. The chef took a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southeast, and the Michelin Guide lists it as a Bib Gourmand.

  27. Rene Andrade runs a short, rotating menu over a mesquite grill in a small, triangular room, and the James Beard Award for Best Chef Southwest followed. This Sonoran Mexican restaurant in Phoenix trades in carne asada, caramelos built on crisp flour tortillas, and beans that make you reconsider how seriously you've been taking beans. The menu is a handful of items on any given night, many of them changing, all of them smelling like fire.

  28. Half-corn, half-flour tortillas land warm at the table while the menu does what it wants, which turns out to be Mexican cooking with detours through saag paneer, nori, and agnolotti. This casual restaurant in Spring won the 2025 James Beard Award for Best Chef: Texas and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, unlikely honors for a strip-mall dining room, but the food makes the argument without needing the room to help.

  29. Rank 130. Rezdôra

    Rustic Emilian Trattoria

Handmade pasta is the whole point at this Flatiron Italian, and the kitchen makes the case with tortellini, tagliatelle, and gnocco fritto the way the region actually does it. The cooking stays close to Emilia-Romagna, which means rich, precise, and not particularly interested in impressing you with novelty. A Michelin star and a spot on the 50 Top Italy list for the world's best Italian restaurants suggest the restraint is working.

  30. A hand-lettered sign out front promises natural wines and a garden patio, which undersells things considerably. Inside this Bywater spot, a Michelin-starred contemporary tasting menu unfolds across a series of small, precise courses, each one built around sauces that do real work. The chef earned a James Beard nomination for Best Chef: South, and the room is intimate enough that you notice every detail they put on the plate.

  31. A contemporary tasting menu where Southern ingredients quietly take on Asian influences, course by course. The Michelin-starred kitchen on Peachtree threads regional produce through precise, inventive cooking, the kind where a two-chamber ravioli holds mushroom in one half and chestnut in the other. The room draws the special-occasion crowd, though the cooking is the kind that makes the occasion feel earned rather than declared.

  32. Rank 133. Birdie’s

    European

The line forms before the counter opens, and it moves through a small, no-frills East Austin wine bar and restaurant where the monthly menu rotates by European region, France and Italy doing the heavy lifting. Homemade pasta anchors most visits, soft serve closes them. The team took home a James Beard Award for Outstanding Beverage, and Food & Wine named it Restaurant of the Year. Order at the counter, then fight for patio shade.

  33. Rank 133. Le Cirque

    French

Satin drapes the ceiling in tent-like folds while the Bellagio fountains do their thing just beyond the window, which is either very Las Vegas or very perfect, depending on your mood. Le Cirque is classic French fine dining, the kind where tasting menus arrive in careful courses and the room does half the work. It holds both a Forbes Five Star and an AAA Five Diamond, a combination that keeps the service on its toes.

  34. Rank 135. Elske

    Nordic

A patio strung with soft light anchors this fine dining room on Randolph's restaurant row, where the menu runs Danish-inflected and quietly seasonal. The kitchen, holding a Michelin star, offers both a tasting menu and à la carte, so the commitment level is yours to choose. Anna Posey's desserts are compositions in the visual-arts sense, restrained and a little arresting. The kind of room where nobody seems to be performing.

  35. The terrace overlooks what feels like the entire valley, vines rolling out below you in every direction, which gives a fine dining tasting menu a certain gravitational pull. Chef Robert Curry has been steering this Michelin-starred Napa institution for long enough that the Californian cooking feels like a natural extension of the landscape. Wine Enthusiast put it in their Restaurant Hall of Fame, which tells you something about the list.

  37. Vaulted ceilings, aquamarine velvet booths, and waiters in dinner jackets set the stage at this Michelin-starred Italian restaurant inside the landmark Puck Building. The menu reads like a love letter to every New York neighborhood at once: deli pickles, Jamaican beef ragu, Cantonese lobster, all cooked with enough precision that none of it feels like a bit. Meals end with miniature Italian ices that lean deliberately sweet. Tables go fast and walk-ins compete for bar seats.

  38. A U-shaped counter of Southern cypress sets the tone at this West Midtown omakase spot: dark walls, low light, and enough intimacy that the room feels like a secret. The chef holds a Michelin star and a James Beard nomination, and the menu leans into surprise over ceremony, moving from cooked bites to nigiri in a way that keeps regulars from ever quite memorizing the sequence. Dessert is not, as regulars will tell you, an afterthought.

  39. Rank 140. Le Pavillon

    Contemporary French

A blown-glass chandelier hangs over the bar at this contemporary French fine dining room tucked into one of Midtown's newer towers, and the soaring ceilings and warm tones make the room feel less corporate than the address suggests. Daniel Boulud and his team steer the menu toward seafood and vegetables with global touches throughout. The whole thing holds a Michelin star, which fits the quietly serious crowd that fills it on a weeknight.

  40. A wood-burning hearth anchors the open kitchen at this Michelin-starred seafood restaurant on the Embarcadero, and the live fire finds its way into nearly everything on the plate. The room goes hunter's cabin by way of Nordic design, with Bay Bridge views softening whatever pretension the dark wood and brick might otherwise suggest. 41. The multicourse tasting menu here shifts concept entirely depending on what the chef is currently obsessed with, whether that's a music era, a stretch of personal history, or something harder to name. Counter is a small, intimate fine dining room with a Michelin star, and the themes change often enough that regulars come back just to see what's replaced the last version of it. Local farms supply much of the produce, and the beverage program keeps pace.

  42. Rank 143. Wing Lei

    Cantonese

The gilded dining room inside the Wynn was designed to stop conversation mid-sentence, and the food takes the same approach. Wing Lei is a fine dining room built around Cantonese, Sichuan, and Shanghainese cooking, and it holds a Forbes Five Star, a distinction no other Chinese restaurant in North America can claim. The Peking duck arrives on a custom cart and gets carved tableside, which is exactly as theatrical as it sounds.

  43. Exposed pipes, factory windows, and earthy ceramics inside Hotel Kabuki set a mood that Thai restaurants rarely bother with. Nari holds a Michelin star for chef Pim Techamuanvivit's California-ingredient-driven cooking, which runs through a sharply contemporary Thai lens. The family-style menu changes with the seasons, so the squid, the curries, and the banana leaf parcels shift, but the kitchen's intensity doesn't. If you can't get a table, the upstairs bar takes walk-ins.

  44. Rank 145. Tatiana

    Caribbean

Kwame Onwuachi named this pan-African Caribbean restaurant after his older sister, and it carries that kind of personal weight through every dish. Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap the dining room inside Lincoln Center, the kitchen is open, and the playlist runs hip-hop while oxtail arrives in a pot big enough to make a scene. It's fine dining without the hush. North America's 50 Best Restaurants lists it among its top 40.

  45. The menu cites lumberjacks as inspiration, which sounds like a joke until the food arrives smelling of juniper and pickled elderberries. This is a French American neighborhood restaurant on Nicollet, where the chef works a distinctly Upper Midwestern palate, finding fall vegetables worthy of a special occasion without making the room feel like one. It won the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant and landed on the New York Times Restaurant List. The pommes dauphine are, regulars will tell you, really just very good Tater Tots.

  46. A polished Art Deco dining room on a prime Upper East Side corner sets the register at Café Boulud: linen-and-crystal fine dining, the kind where the service anticipates rather than intrudes. 47. Rank 148. Soseki

    Modern Kappo

Ten seats at a counter lit like a stage, dark walls and bright spotlights framing every course. Soseki is an omakase in Winter Park where chef Mike Collantes folds Florida produce into a progression that moves from small modern dishes into a faultless run of nigiri, each piece scored and sauced with quiet precision. A Michelin star hangs over the room, and dessert gets the same serious treatment as the fish.

  48. Rank 149. Casa Playa

    Coastal Mexican

The whole snapper arrives in tempura, trailing mole amarillo, and the room is already glam enough that this feels appropriate. Casa Playa is a coastal Mexican restaurant on the Strip where the menu works for sharing or not, which is a rarer courtesy than it sounds. The chef holds a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest. Order charred octopus, warm housemade tortillas, and whatever the table can agree on, then quietly order more.

  50. Rank 151. Yamada

An L-shaped counter for a handful of diners, a dry garden visible through the window, and ikebana completing the pale, earthy room: kaiseki at this scale is intimate by design. Chef Isao Yamada runs a tasting menu that moves through the classical sequence of courses while leaning into local sourcing, Nantucket corn and Catskills mushrooms folded into the rice course. One Michelin star, and the New York Times placed it second on their 100 Best Restaurants list for 2026.

  51. Rank 152. Mawn

    Southeast Asian Noodle Shop

Phila Lorn calls it a noodle house, which undersells the ambition considerably. The menu moves through Cambodian cooking, bright sour salads, curries, and cold noodles without much concern for borders, which is the whole point. It's a BYO, so walk in with a bottle under your arm and the cozy dining room feels less like a restaurant than someone's very talented friend's house. Lorn won the 2025 James Beard Emerging Chef award, and the room fills up accordingly.

  52. Rank 153. Tâm Tâm

    Vietnamese

There's a karaoke machine hidden somewhere in this Vietnamese restaurant near the county courthouse, and it tells you everything about the vibe. The team runs the place like a party they're throwing for you, with wings glazed in fish sauce caramel and tamarind ribs you can eat with your hands. No stilettos required, no DJ, no velvet rope. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a spot on the New York Times' 25 best Miami restaurants list.

  53. Rank 154. Indienne

    Modern Indian

Pani puris and chats arrive at a fine-dining pace in a River North room where rose-pink booths meet exposed warehouse ceilings. Chef Sujan Sarkar runs tasting menus, vegan through non-vegetarian, that read as modern Indian with a quiet French undertow. The food looks composed and architectural, then tastes warmly familiar. A Michelin star and a James Beard nomination confirm what the room full of very still, very attentive diners already suspected.

  54. The cheeseburger on a housemade English muffin has become something of a Houston landmark, but at this EaDo bistro the menu makes every decision feel equally consequential. Nancy's Hustle holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a James Beard semifinalist nod, and the cooking is seasonal and bold without being precious about it. The room stays packed and loud most nights, which somehow only adds to the fun.

  55. Rank 156. NAOE

    Japanese

NAOE is a five-seat omakase counter on Brickell Key that predates the city's current sushi gold rush. The menu is set each day, substitutions are not entertained, and the allergy policy is a polite no, so this is a three-hour meal you surrender to rather than negotiate. Expect a quiet room, a chef working inches away, and a bill that makes sense only if someone else is paying. It holds a Forbes Five Star and AAA Five Diamonds.

  56. Thai Taco Tuesdays draw lines around the block at this family-run Sherman Oaks restaurant, where a second-generation chef holds a James Beard Award and runs a monthly omakase that books out before most people know it's open. The rest of the week it's classic Thai with a wine list that gets written about on its own terms. Warm, buzzy, and very Los Angeles in the best sense, which is to say it's completely unpretentious about being excellent.

  57. Rank 158. Ômo by Jônt

    Japanese-inflected French

Classic French technique run through a Japanese sensibility, with a few Florida ingredients slipped in quietly, is the organizing idea at this fine dining tasting menu restaurant in Winter Park. Chef Ryan Ratino's D.C. flagship, Jônt, is the spiritual blueprint, and the Michelin star followed. Three tasting menus scale from edited to full luxury, so the room draws both the occasion crowd and the regulars who already know which one to pick.

  58. Rank 159. Essential By Christophe

    Contemporary French

Heavy iron doors open into a slim townhouse base on the Upper West Side, where the room runs to supple leather, brass, and layered shades of beige without tipping into stuffiness. This is contemporary French fine dining, and chef Christophe Bellanca brings the technique without the formality, folding in Asian influences, genmaicha and turmeric among them, in ways that feel deliberate rather than fashionable. The restaurant holds a Michelin star.

    Japanese

The rooftop draws Adams Morgan brunch-seekers, but the real reason to come is Masako Morishita's Japanese comfort food, which won her a 2024 James Beard Award for Emerging Chef. This neighborhood restaurant has long been a sushi standby, though the menu has drifted into more interesting territory: edamame dumplings with Parmesan, fried mochi in dashi, a shrimp-katsu burger that commits fully to its own premise. The rotating specials and occasional Saturday prix fixe breakfasts keep regulars checking back.

  66. Rank 167. Imperfecto

    Latin Mediterranean

A glass-and-marble box that practically dares the sky to blink first, Imperfecto is a modernist Latin American fine dining room where the counter seats directly under the chef's station feel like a restaurant folded inside another one. The menu works through Latin flavors with precise, elaborate technique, and a Michelin star backs the ambition. Bring patience, an appetite, and someone worth sitting across from for a long evening.

  67. Rank 168. Restaurant Ki

    Contemporary Korean

You get instructions in advance on how to find the entrance, which sets the tone for what follows inside. Restaurant Ki is a ten-seat contemporary Korean tasting menu tucked into downtown LA, where the chef pulls global technique into Korean foundations without making a fuss about it. It holds a Michelin star, and a James Beard nomination for Best New Restaurant didn't hurt its reputation either. Worth finding the door.

  69. Two chefs, twelve seats, and a nondescript door in a West Oakland industrial block that gives nothing away. Sun Moon Studio is a tasting menu restaurant run entirely by Sarah Cooper and Alan Hsu, no brigade, just the two of them, and the Michelin star on the wall suggests that arrangement works out fine. The menu tracks California seasons closely, and Cooper's baked goods, including savory egg tarts and steamed brioche buns, earn particular attention. Reservations are a project.

  70. Rank 171. Bad Idea

    Lao Wine Bar

A converted church sanctuary in East Nashville, which at least explains the soaring ceilings and the sense that something meaningful is happening here. The wine list runs over a hundred bottles, and the bar anchoring the room doubles as a social hub for groups settling in for the night. The kitchen plays it loose, moving between bar snacks and more serious plates. Chef Colby Rasavong picked up a Food and Wine Best New Chefs nod in 2025, and the Times put it on their restaurant list that same year.

  71. Rank 172. Kizaki

    Omakase Japanese

Toshi Kizaki built Denver's Japanese dining scene over four decades, and this intimate counter omakase is where he's raising his own bar. Around twenty courses move between small plates and nigiri he shapes himself, with Michelin's one-star stamp confirming what regulars already knew. The room is spare and dramatically lit, the pacing unhurried, and the sake pairings handled with care. This is a full-commitment dinner, not a drop-in.

  72. Sitting inside the Museum of Fine Arts, this French fine dining room earns its Michelin star on the strength of produce-driven cooking where the sauces do the heavy lifting and the plating looks borrowed from the galleries next door. The Cullen Sculpture Garden frames the windows after dark. The tasting menu shifts with the seasons, and the pommes dauphine with truffle aioli have no business being a side dish.

  74. Jun is a Heights restaurant where a Salvadoran-Mexican heritage and a Southeast Asian crush share small plates built for passing around, so you'll be negotiating over the last carrot with salsa macha and a quail egg. Chef Evelyn Garcia, a Top Chef alum, won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Texas in 2026. Expect a dinner-with-friends tab and a tasting menu if you'd like someone else to pace the evening.

  75. The wood-fired hearth in the open kitchen sets the mood before anything arrives at the table. This fine dining room in a Shaw alley does Mid-Atlantic cooking with a Southern undertow, and the chef's commitment to the region shows in everything from rooftop herbs to the catfish slider that's been on the menu since forever. 76. Rank 177. Stubborn Seed

    New American

The glass-fronted kitchen puts the cooking on full display at this sleek, intimate fine dining spot on a busy Miami Beach corner. Jeremy Ford runs an ambitious tasting menu that pulls in Latin and Asian influences, and the kitchen supplies itself from its own organic farm in Redland, which is either admirable or showing off. Probably both. Michelin has given it a star, and the room fills accordingly.

  77. Push X Pull is a Central Eastside coffee roaster that ferments fruit into its beans, so one week's pour-over tastes like apricot candy and the next like blueberry sweet tea. The room is concrete with aquamarine trim, relaxed enough that nobody will quiz you on terroir. If tasting notes make you nervous, the maple-and-turmeric latte is a safe ask. It ranks among the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops.

  78. String lights hang above a counter facing an open kitchen, and the menu opens with challah that the kitchen calls "really, really, really good" without any embarrassment. Rose's Luxury is a prix-fixe spot in Capitol Hill where the cooking runs from spiced pork with lychee to Korean rice cakes in gochujang alla vodka, all served family-style and at a pace that feels more like a dinner party than a restaurant. It holds a Michelin star.

  79. The hand-washing station at the entrance stocks Loewe soap, which tells you most of what you need to know about this Korean fried chicken restaurant. Club music bounces off vaulted ceilings while you work through a bucket of gluten-free fried chicken with consommé, banchan, and frozen yogurt soft serve to finish. Champagne is the obvious pairing, and caviar-topped nuggets are available for anyone who finds the baseline insufficiently absurd. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

  83. Red oak smoke colors the brisket a distinct hue that regulars clock before they even pick up a tray. This Michelin-starred barbecue spot in Spring runs Tuesday through Saturday until sellout, so the line forms before the doors open at eleven, and regulars order ahead. Creekstone Farms prime cuts and beef ribs that somehow justify a forty-minute drive from Houston are why Texas Monthly put it on their list of the state's fifty best BBQ joints.

  84. The cheese trolley alone could stop traffic, and at Gary Danko it arrives with the gravity of a state visit. This is old-school prix-fixe fine dining near Fisherman's Wharf, the kind where servers wear dark suits and the wine list requires a commitment. Three to five courses, ample choices at each turn, or hand it all to the kitchen. An AAA Five Diamond, and on Wine Enthusiast's Wine Restaurant Hall of Fame, if that helps justify the occasion.

  85. The emcee chef narrating the caloric damage while urging you to order seconds tells you everything about the vibe here. The Kitchen is a tasting-menu experience where you're encouraged to wander into the open kitchen and chat up the cooks, which is either liberating or mildly chaotic depending on your disposition. The monthly menu leans hard on Central Valley produce. A Michelin star and AAA Five Diamonds, for a party this loud, is a genuinely entertaining trick.

  86. Ten counter seats inside a renovated gin building, and getting one of them is genuinely the hard part. This is an intimate edomae omakase, Michelin-starred, where the chef sequences around fourteen nigiri pieces so the flavors build steadily from delicate to deep. The rice comes from Hokkaido, the movements are unhurried, and the chef will quietly adjust the size of a piece if you ask. Everyone sits down together, so don't be late.

A French bistro in a small Central Coast wine town, Bell's runs on a tight three-choices-per-course format that keeps the kitchen focused and the meal moving. Nearly everything on the plate was grown or raised within a short drive, which sounds like a bumper sticker until you taste it. The chef holds a Michelin star and a James Beard nomination, and the cooking earns both without fussing about it.

  90. Vegetables get top billing here, not as an afterthought but as the whole argument, with meat from the wood-fired grill playing a supporting role. This is fine dining from a team with Blue Hill at Stone Barns roots, and it shows in the precision without the stiffness. The airy, linen-white room suits the cooking's restraint. A James Beard Outstanding Restaurant nominee, Vicia has been a reason to fly into St. Louis for years.

  91. The evening starts outside on a heated patio, then moves to a counter wrapped around the open kitchen, which is about as much warning as you get that Lilo is an event. This Michelin-starred tasting menu in Carlsbad runs through New American cooking built on Japanese kinmedai, California abalone, and wagyu, with a James Beard semifinalist behind the stoves. 93. The amber-lit dining room inside a restored Art Deco landmark sets the mood before anyone opens a menu. Thomas Keller's Florida debut is a bistro with the feel of a very good private club, all plush banquettes and a handsome vintage bar. The Continental cooking leans into the nostalgia without disappearing into it, and the kitchen's sauces are quietly doing the heavy lifting. It holds a Michelin star.

  94. Rank 195. Nicōsi

    Creative Dessert

A dessert-only tasting menu tucked inside Pullman Market, where phones stay pocketed all night by house rule. The multicourse format chases four flavor arcs, acid through sweet, and the kitchen rarely repeats itself season to season. Cotton candy spun tableside and caviar on cheese crackers give you a sense of the register. The chefs narrate as they go, which helps. A Michelin star, and a James Beard nominee for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker.

  95. Rank 196. Chez Noir

    Elevated Mediterranean Bistro

The chefs live upstairs, which explains why this Craftsman-on-5th Avenue bistro feels less like a restaurant and more like a very good dinner party you somehow got invited to. The cooking leans Mediterranean with a California coast accent, prix fixe, and a Michelin star to its name. The canelés alone have sparked quiet obsession among regulars. A James Beard nominee, and the kind of place Carmel somehow earned.

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
