The Best Places to Eat and Do in the United States

Eat + Do, change section
  1. A U-shaped counter of Southern cypress sets the tone at this West Midtown omakase spot: dark walls, low light, and enough intimacy that the room feels like a secret. The chef holds a Michelin star and a James Beard nomination, and the menu leans into surprise over ceremony, moving from cooked bites to nigiri in a way that keeps regulars from ever quite memorizing the sequence. Dessert is not, as regulars will tell you, an afterthought.

  2. Rank 202. Fiola

    Italian

Stone walls, Warhol-esque prints, and servers who greet you before you've touched the door handle: Fiola is a tasting-menu Italian on Pennsylvania Avenue where Fabio Trabocchi's kitchen treats pasta scraps as an occasion for caviar and sea urchin. Several tasting menus let you calibrate exactly how far down the rabbit hole to go. It holds a Michelin star and landed at number seven on 50 Top Italy's global list.

  3. The multicourse tasting menu here shifts concept entirely depending on what the chef is currently obsessed with, whether that's a music era, a stretch of personal history, or something harder to name. Counter is a small, intimate fine dining room with a Michelin star, and the themes change often enough that regulars come back just to see what's replaced the last version of it. Local farms supply much of the produce, and the beverage program keeps pace.

  4. Exposed pipes, factory windows, and earthy ceramics inside Hotel Kabuki set a mood that Thai restaurants rarely bother with. Nari holds a Michelin star for chef Pim Techamuanvivit's California-ingredient-driven cooking, which runs through a sharply contemporary Thai lens. The family-style menu changes with the seasons, so the squid, the curries, and the banana leaf parcels shift, but the kitchen's intensity doesn't. If you can't get a table, the upstairs bar takes walk-ins.

  5. Rank 205. Casa Playa

    Coastal Mexican

The whole snapper arrives in tempura, trailing mole amarillo, and the room is already glam enough that this feels appropriate. Casa Playa is a coastal Mexican restaurant on the Strip where the menu works for sharing or not, which is a rarer courtesy than it sounds. The chef holds a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest. Order charred octopus, warm housemade tortillas, and whatever the table can agree on, then quietly order more.

  6. Rank 206. Rooster & Owl

    Mediterranean

A four-course prix-fixe in Columbia Heights where cacio e pepe shows up as a Bartlett-pear salad and no one bats an eye. Chef Yuan Tang's menu roams freely from steakhouse classics to Southeast Asian detours, and the mix-and-match format means the bar can match wine to whatever path you picked. It holds a Michelin star, and the room skews lively enough that "fine dining" undersells how relaxed the whole thing feels.

  7. Rank 207. Indienne

    Modern Indian

Pani puris and chats arrive at a fine-dining pace in a River North room where rose-pink booths meet exposed warehouse ceilings. Chef Sujan Sarkar runs tasting menus, vegan through non-vegetarian, that read as modern Indian with a quiet French undertow. The food looks composed and architectural, then tastes warmly familiar. A Michelin star and a James Beard nomination confirm what the room full of very still, very attentive diners already suspected.

  8. Windowless, walk-in only, and usually packed, this South Philly izakaya earned a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic and a Michelin Bib Gourmand without ever taking a reservation. The menu roams confidently from raw to fried to grilled, cod skin crisped to a chip, chirashi bowls stacked with caviar and ikura. Regulars who know the right people find their way to the omakase counter tucked in the back, which is its own argument for becoming a regular.

  9. Rank 209. Bastion

    Southern

You pass through a cocktail bar to get to the dining room, which sets the tone. Bastion is a tasting-menu restaurant in Wedgewood-Houston built around contemporary Southern cooking that treats the region's pantry as a creative dare rather than a comfort blanket. The kitchen holds a Michelin star and a James Beard nomination, and earns both by keeping things loose enough that the whole thing still feels like a good night out.

  10. Rank 210. Ômo by Jônt

    Japanese-inflected French

Classic French technique run through a Japanese sensibility, with a few Florida ingredients slipped in quietly, is the organizing idea at this fine dining tasting menu restaurant in Winter Park. Chef Ryan Ratino's D.C. flagship, Jônt, is the spiritual blueprint, and the Michelin star followed. Three tasting menus scale from edited to full luxury, so the room draws both the occasion crowd and the regulars who already know which one to pick.

  11. Custom lychee wood charcoal does the work at this Korean charcoal BBQ spot in the Mission, where Corey Lee and Jeong-In Hwang bring serious fine-dining technique to galbi and kimchi jjigae. The space is polished concrete and warm wood, which sounds cold on paper but lands somewhere close to cozy. A Michelin star, and reservations to match. 12. Rank 212. Rocca

    Italian

Mozzarella pulled tableside from a cart is the opener, but at this Italian restaurant in Tampa it's the flavor that earns the attention, not the theater. The pastas are made in house, and the chef, a James Beard nominee, holds a Michelin star for work that feels both classically grounded and genuinely inventive. The room draws the kind of crowd that books early and orders confidently, and the chocolate custard at the end will make you reconsider skipping dessert.

  13. Dark-wood paneling and a white marble antipasti counter signal that this is not your red-checkered-tablecloth Italian place. Nancy Silverton's Melrose osteria holds a Michelin star and takes bread and mozzarella with a seriousness most kitchens reserve for the main course. The pastas are the draw for regulars, but the team is equally intent on pulling you toward the less obvious corners of the Italian table.

  14. Rank 214. Restaurant Ki

You get instructions in advance on how to find the entrance, which sets the tone for what follows inside. Restaurant Ki is a ten-seat contemporary Korean tasting menu tucked into downtown LA, where the chef pulls global technique into Korean foundations without making a fuss about it. It holds a Michelin star, and a James Beard nomination for Best New Restaurant didn't hurt its reputation either. Worth finding the door.

  15. Rank 215. Gramercy Tavern

    Contemporary American

The room divides in two: a buzzy front Tavern with bar seats and an à la carte menu, and a quieter Dining Room behind it running a prix-fixe. Both are fine dining by any sane measure, just at different volumes. The seasonal contemporary American menu leans on local produce with French technique behind it. Gramercy holds a Michelin star and a spot on North America's 50 Best. Danny Meyer's flagship, been around forever, and still the restaurant half of New York uses to impress the other half.

  16. Two chefs, twelve seats, and a nondescript door in a West Oakland industrial block that gives nothing away. Sun Moon Studio is a tasting menu restaurant run entirely by Sarah Cooper and Alan Hsu, no brigade, just the two of them, and the Michelin star on the wall suggests that arrangement works out fine. The menu tracks California seasons closely, and Cooper's baked goods, including savory egg tarts and steamed brioche buns, earn particular attention. Reservations are a project.

  17. Rank 217. Kizaki

    Omakase Japanese

Toshi Kizaki built Denver's Japanese dining scene over four decades, and this intimate counter omakase is where he's raising his own bar. Around twenty courses move between small plates and nigiri he shapes himself, with Michelin's one-star stamp confirming what regulars already knew. The room is spare and dramatically lit, the pacing unhurried, and the sake pairings handled with care. This is a full-commitment dinner, not a drop-in.

  19. Sitting inside the Museum of Fine Arts, this French fine dining room earns its Michelin star on the strength of produce-driven cooking where the sauces do the heavy lifting and the plating looks borrowed from the galleries next door. The Cullen Sculpture Garden frames the windows after dark. The tasting menu shifts with the seasons, and the pommes dauphine with truffle aioli have no business being a side dish.

  20. Jun is a Heights restaurant where a Salvadoran-Mexican heritage and a Southeast Asian crush share small plates built for passing around, so you'll be negotiating over the last carrot with salsa macha and a quail egg. 21. The wood-fired hearth in the open kitchen sets the mood before anything arrives at the table. 23. Getting a table here is a project, and yes, it's inside Disney's Grand Floridian, but set that aside. This is a fine dining room operating at a rarefied level, with Michelin and Forbes Five Star credentials to show for it. The kitchen works from a classical base with sweeping global influences, and the pacing is deliberately unhurried, three hours of veteran service, a water list, and an ornate tea and coffee ritual that arrives like its own course.

  24. Red oak smoke colors the brisket a distinct hue that regulars clock before they even pick up a tray. This Michelin-starred barbecue spot in Spring runs Tuesday through Saturday until sellout, so the line forms before the doors open at eleven, and regulars order ahead. Creekstone Farms prime cuts and beef ribs that somehow justify a forty-minute drive from Houston are why Texas Monthly put it on their list of the state's fifty best BBQ joints.

Ten counter seats inside a renovated gin building, and getting one of them is genuinely the hard part. This is an intimate edomae omakase, Michelin-starred, where the chef sequences around fourteen nigiri pieces so the flavors build steadily from delicate to deep. The rice comes from Hokkaido, the movements are unhurried, and the chef will quietly adjust the size of a piece if you ask. Everyone sits down together, so don't be late.

  26. The emcee chef narrating the caloric damage while urging you to order seconds tells you everything about the vibe here. The Kitchen is a tasting-menu experience where you're encouraged to wander into the open kitchen and chat up the cooks, which is either liberating or mildly chaotic depending on your disposition. The monthly menu leans hard on Central Valley produce. A Michelin star and AAA Five Diamonds, for a party this loud, is a genuinely entertaining trick.

  27. Rank 227. Ariete

    American-Cuban

Patio or dining room, the kitchen sends the same meal either way, which tells you something about how this Coconut Grove fine-dining room operates. Michael Beltran's French-inflected New American menu earns a Michelin star on the strength of sauces that feel like the actual point of each dish, with venison tartare and bone marrow sabayon as a case in point. The kind of place where the bread course quietly becomes a highlight.

  28. Rank 228. Hai Hai

    Southeast Asian

Deep teal walls, hanging ferns, and paper lanterns turned a former strip club into a Southeast Asian street food restaurant that somehow feels like the right call even in a Minneapolis winter. The cocktails lean tropical, the menu ranges across Vietnam, Bali, and beyond, and the chef behind it all, Christina Nguyen, took the 2024 James Beard Award for Best Chef: Midwest. Book on Resy; walk-ins are optimistic.

  29. Rank 229. Bell's

    French

A French bistro in a small Central Coast wine town, Bell's runs on a tight three-choices-per-course format that keeps the kitchen focused and the meal moving. Nearly everything on the plate was grown or raised within a short drive, which sounds like a bumper sticker until you taste it. The chef holds a Michelin star and a James Beard nomination, and the cooking earns both without fussing about it.

  30. The evening starts outside on a heated patio, then moves to a counter wrapped around the open kitchen, which is about as much warning as you get that Lilo is an event. This Michelin-starred tasting menu in Carlsbad runs through New American cooking built on Japanese kinmedai, California abalone, and wagyu, with a James Beard semifinalist behind the stoves. The New York Times put it on their restaurant list, and you can see why once the orgeat ice cream arrives.

    Creative Dessert

A dessert-only tasting menu tucked inside Pullman Market, where phones stay pocketed all night by house rule. The multicourse format chases four flavor arcs, acid through sweet, and the kitchen rarely repeats itself season to season. Cotton candy spun tableside and caviar on cheese crackers give you a sense of the register. The chefs narrate as they go, which helps. 33. Ten seats at a sleek counter on a cobblestoned West Village street, and the whole meal is in the chef's hands. Daisuke Nakazawa's omakase moves through a parade of nigiri, each piece built from deeply seasoned rice, a touch of wasabi, and a careful brush of nikiri. The fish skews fatty and tender in ways that tend to make regulars go quiet. One Michelin star, and a price point slightly more forgiving than the city's other serious sushi rooms.

  34. Rank 234. Chez Noir

    Elevated Mediterranean Bistro

The chefs live upstairs, which explains why this Craftsman-on-5th Avenue bistro feels less like a restaurant and more like a very good dinner party you somehow got invited to. The cooking leans Mediterranean with a California coast accent, prix fixe, and a Michelin star to its name. The canelés alone have sparked quiet obsession among regulars. A James Beard nominee, and the kind of place Carmel somehow earned.

  35. Chefs in custom gold Nikes, LL Cool J on the speakers, and caviar occasionally served with gummy bears: Aaron Silverman's Capitol Hill tasting room is not doing the hushed-temple thing. This prix-fixe spot holds a Michelin star while leaning hard into the party, with tableside absinthe cocktails and truffle-laced dishes that arrive with a story attached. 37. Menus printed on pineapple-leaf paper set the tone at this intimate tasting counter in Nob Hill, where the team reimagines Filipino pantry staples through fermentation, foraging, and the kind of tweezered precision that signals a long night ahead (in the good way). The twelve-course menu pulls Californian foraged ingredients into dishes rooted in tradition without being enslaved to it. Dressed-up but not stiff, the sort of place that earns its formality by actually being fun.

  38. Rank 238. Brutø

    Nordic Sushi

An omakase counter tucked into the Free Market at Dairy Block, Brutø runs a tasting menu where the hearth does most of the talking. The kitchen blends Nordic and Japanese instincts with a serious fermentation program, and the non-alcoholic pairing is worth ordering without hesitation. 41. A private counter tucked inside Jaleo on the Cosmopolitan's third floor, this is José Andrés's stage for a Spanish contemporary tasting menu where a "PB&J" arrives as foie gras mousse in meringue bread, and a prawn comes with olive spheres and mandarin snow. The Michelin-starred room seats very few, the kitchen is your entertainment, and the whole thing reads less like dinner than a very good magic show that happens to leave you full.

  42. Rank 242. Cote Miami

    Korean Barbecue

The neon-lit entrance hallway hits you with subwoofer bass before you've seen a single menu, which tells you exactly where the priorities lie. COTE is a Korean steakhouse in Miami's Design District, holding a Michelin star, where whole cuts of dry-aged beef are displayed like sculpture before they hit your tabletop grill. Elcielo is a Michelin-starred fine dining tasting menu restaurant near Union Market where the Colombian-born chef turns his home country into a deeply personal, course-by-course argument. 45. Eight seats at a counter is the whole restaurant, which keeps things intimate enough that you'll know your neighbors' thoughts on the nigiri sequence before the ramen arrives. Kadence is an omakase spot where the chef works directly in front of you, moving from composed small dishes and sashimi into carefully paced nigiri, backed by a serious sake program. It holds a Michelin star, and the James Beard committee has taken notice too.

  46. Rank 246. Bridges

    Globally inspired Bistro

Sam Lawrence's New American restaurant sits in Chinatown with amber lighting warm enough to make you forget how cold it is outside. The menu is spare on words and refuses to be pinned to a single tradition, which sounds like a hedge but plays out as confidence. Michelin has given it a star. The room has bistro ease, the kitchen has genuine ambition, and somehow that combination holds.

  47. Juniper wood smoke on New England lobster is the kind of detail that tells you exactly how seriously this Michelin-starred tasting menu restaurant takes its work. The room is dim and a little moody, but the staff talks you through everything with genuine warmth, and the wine list earns its own attention. Foraging, fermentation, and local farms set the rhythm, with miso, koji, and house preserves woven through dishes that feel rooted to the Rockies.

  48. An eight-seat counter where the seafood flies in from Japan several times a week and the Santa Monica farmers market fills in the rest. This is omakase at its quietest: minimal room, soft-spoken service, no flourishes competing with the fish. The knifework on a piece of squid nigiri is the kind of thing you notice without knowing why. A Michelin star, and a spot on the New York Times Restaurant List.

  49. A long counter in a Scandi-spare RiNo room is where the tasting menu unfolds, the kitchen fully visible and conspicuously calm. Vegetables tend to steal scenes that duck and truffle are supposedly headlining, and desserts run ambitious enough that cocoa nib tuiles and salsify ice cream show up in the same bowl. The wine list is serious, and there's a zero-proof pairing if you'd rather stay sharp. Michelin has awarded it a star, and the James Beard Foundation named it an Outstanding Restaurant Semifinalist.

  50. A Michelin-starred omakase counter tucked into a Rosedale strip mall, which is exactly the kind of setup Austin enjoys pulling off. The chefs run a creative procession of nigiri and small bites that leans on Japanese product without being precious about it, folding in touches like honey yuzu vinegar or grapefruit with chili oil in ways that flatter the fish rather than bury it. Arrive a few minutes early; there's a welcome cocktail waiting.

  51. Rank 251. Gift Horse

    Korean Seafood

Shuckers at the horseshoe bar crack open oysters from a dozen Rhode Island spots, and you dress them yourself with kimchi mignonette or fermented green-chile hot sauce. Gift Horse is a Korean-inflected New England seafood restaurant, the kind of place that slides littlenecks under crisp kimchi and broils butterfish in sweet-potato miso. The chef won a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northeast in 2025, and the New York Times named two dishes among the best they ate all year.

  52. Rank 251. Musaafer

    Indian

A Michelin-starred Indian fine-dining restaurant inside the Galleria mall, which is either a joke or a statement, and Musaafer is clearly the latter. The grand hall, with its arches, towering windows, and labyrinthine layout, feels more like a palace than a food court neighbor. The menu traces the chef's journey across India's states, so the range is wide and the spicing is careful. The Paan Negroni at the bar is a fine place to start.

  53. Rank 253. Troubadour

    Californian Bistro

The bread course lands at multiple points during dinner, which tells you something about the team's priorities. By day, Troubadour is a bakery and sandwich shop run by two former SingleThread chefs who also operate nearby Quail and Condor. By night the same small room flips to a tasting menu of modern French-leaning California cooking. The San Francisco Chronicle named it among the county's top restaurants, and the LA Times put it on their California 101 list.

  54. A 1920s white stucco bungalow off Richmond Avenue, hung with Picasso owl jugs from the owner's private collection, is doing some of the more serious Spanish cooking in Houston. This is fine dining, so dress accordingly. The chef handles both seafood and roasted meats with the kind of confidence that makes everything feel inevitable rather than effortful. An all-Spanish wine list and a dedicated gin and tonic section round out the room. It holds a Michelin star.

    Japanese Steakhouse

A shiny gold door opens into a wood-lined steakhouse where a binchōtan robata grill does most of the talking. The team runs a whole-animal butchery program, wet- and dry-aging US Prime and American Wagyu before anything goes near the coals, which explains the queue for the 18-seat chef's counter. Prices are serious. So is the fire. Niku holds a Michelin star.

Exposed brick and a vaulted dark-wood ceiling set the tone at this Michelin-starred fine dining room in downtown Marietta, where the menu is short by design and the cooking lets ingredients argue for themselves. The chef keeps things deceptively simple, which is harder than it looks. The wine list has real range. A James Beard semifinalist for Best Chef: Southeast, this is the kind of place that makes Marietta a destination, not a detour.

Barley Swine collects rainwater for its garden and plates the results on dishes sourced from Goodwill, which tells you roughly everything about where it sits on the spectrum between earnest and clever. The kitchen leans on local ingredients filtered through Mexican and Southern traditions, then takes them somewhere unexpected every season.

  59. Rank 258. InterStellar BBQ

    Texas Barbecue

The line forms before the door swings open, which tells you most of what you need to know about this BBQ shop in a strip mall off 620. Pitmaster John Bates runs brisket over post oak low and slow, and the sides, particularly the smoked scalloped potatoes and poblano creamed corn, get taken just as seriously. A Michelin star, which no one saw coming from a strip mall, arrived anyway.

  60. Fourteen seats at a counter, up a set of metal stairs past paintings made by pressing inked fish onto rice paper, which is either the best possible preview of dinner or a very specific art movement. This Michelin-starred omakase pulls seasonal seafood from Tokyo's Toyosu market, and the chef trained under Nakazawa before landing here. 62. The hinoki counter was milled from a tree that predates the American Revolution, which sets the tone immediately. Yoshino on the Bowery is a traditional omakase counter from chef Tadashi Yoshida, who left a celebrated restaurant in Japan to open here, and holds a Michelin star. The meal moves through composed cooked courses before settling into Edomae nigiri, with a torched mackerel that arrives over a handheld charcoal grill like a small piece of theater.

  63. A neighborhood omakase counter in University Heights where the chef is visibly charming the room, yet the sushi arriving in front of you signals that nothing casual is happening back there. Fatty tuna comes luscious, sea bass gets broiled and caramelized over two misos, and the meal closes with homemade green tea ice cream. Michelin one-star, and it seats like a local secret.

  65. No servers, rap music overhead, and a Michelin star: Schwa has always done things its own way. This tiny BYOB tasting menu spot runs on the chef's terms, which means the kitchen sends out whatever it feels like that night, and "whatever it feels like" might be chilled gumbo or foie gras ice cream in a cinnamon shell. The cooking is genuinely strange in ways that somehow cohere. Shots of whiskey may arrive at the end, which feels about right.

  66. You don't see a menu at this Michelin-starred brunch tasting room in the Castro, which is either thrilling or mildly terrifying depending on your personality. The cooking is bold and a little chaotic in the best way, built on serious fine dining technique but with zero fussiness about it. Blue-and-white checkered floors and a big mural set the tone: this is not a quiet eggs-and-mimosas situation.

  67. A Michelin-starred omakase counter tucked near Domino Park on a quiet Williamsburg block. The chef talks through the meal as it arrives, explaining which region the fish came from, why the rice is what it is, and how long he hunted for the aged soys, so the whole thing feels more like a conversation than a performance. The nigiri is the main event, and the rice gets refreshed throughout, a detail that separates the obsessives from the casual.

Tucked into a corner of Grand Central at the base of One Vanderbilt, Jōji is an omakase counter that somehow makes midtown feel quiet. The meal moves from small plates through nigiri built on a careful Koshihikari-Nanatsuboshi rice blend, with much of the seafood sourced from Tokyo's Toyosu Market. Luxury ingredients run through the menu, so come with the card you don't think about. It holds a Michelin star.

  74. Rank 273. Noz 17

    Sushi

A seven-seat cypress counter in Chelsea is about as intimate as omakase gets, and Noz 17 leans into that. The Michelin-starred sibling to the Upper East Side original sends out a refined nigiri sequence where the fish does the talking and the rice backs it up perfectly. The chef's approach is disciplined and unhurried, which is either calming or excruciating depending on your plans for the evening.

  75. Rank 275. Soseki

  79. Half-corn, half-flour tortillas land warm at the table while the menu does what it wants, which turns out to be Mexican cooking with detours through saag paneer, nori, and agnolotti. 93. The limestone facade on Broadway gives way to ash wood, mosaic tile, and a wide-open kitchen that runs the whole show. This is a French brasserie with a Michelin star, the kind of place where the duck arrives whole before someone carves it tableside. Williamsburg's dressed-up crowd fills the generously spaced tables, and nobody looks out of place in either a blazer or a good jacket.

  94. A tasting menu that ends with an aged cheddar sundae tells you most of what you need to know. Wild Common holds a Michelin star and runs a contemporary fine dining format with a global restlessness, leaning on local ingredients without making a fuss about it. Counter seats facing the open kitchen are the move. The chef, a James Beard semifinalist, keeps the whole thing looser and more fun than the format usually allows.

  95. Eight seats at a counter tucked inside a shared space, which tells you almost everything about the vibe before the bread arrives. Margot is a multicourse tasting menu restaurant earning a Michelin star on the strength of cooking that reads as both Colorado and everywhere at once. Each guest gets their own individual loaf of olive oil brioche, freshly baked, which sets the tone for hospitality that somehow manages not to feel performative.

  96. String lights hang above a counter facing an open kitchen, and the menu opens with challah that the kitchen calls "really, really, really good" without any embarrassment. Rose's Luxury is a prix-fixe spot in Capitol Hill where the cooking runs from spiced pork with lychee to Korean rice cakes in gochujang alla vodka, all served family-style and at a pace that feels more like a dinner party than a restaurant. It holds a Michelin star.

  97. Rank 297. Stubborn Seed

    New American

The glass-fronted kitchen puts the cooking on full display at this sleek, intimate fine dining spot on a busy Miami Beach corner. Jeremy Ford runs an ambitious tasting menu that pulls in Latin and Asian influences, and the kitchen supplies itself from its own organic farm in Redland, which is either admirable or showing off. Probably both. Michelin has given it a star, and the room fills accordingly.

  98. Rank 298. Sixty Three Clinton

    Modern American

A tasting menu in a quietly understated Lower East Side room that reads far more modest than what comes out of the kitchen. The cooking is precise and composed, moving from a breakfast taco opener to scallop to a short rib and closing on goat milk ice cream. Nothing announces itself loudly, which is somehow the whole point. The service knows the menu cold. It holds a Michelin star.

  99. Rank 299. Milpero

    Mexican

A corn farmer, a milpero, lends the name and the organizing principle to this intimate tasting-menu restaurant where the chef Johnny Curiel builds an 18-course progression around the grain. Expect dishes where a single oyster sits in smoked tomato broth and corn shoyu, or bluefin otoro folds into a flauta with black garlic chile paste. The New York Times put it on their 2026 Restaurant List, which tracks with the ambition on the plate.

  100. Rank 299. So. Fox

    Seasonal Southern

The name is short for Southern Fox, a nickname for the muscadine grape, which tells you everything about how seriously this fine dining room takes its regional roots. The chef's résumé runs from a Chick-fil-A in Atlanta to Eleven Madison Park, and that arc shows: leather-britches bean dashi, blue crab with bottarga, fermented peaches under marshmallow fluff. A former burger spot with a soft Scandi makeover, it landed on the New York Times Restaurant List for 2026.

Eat Score

The score comes from the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin star outweighs a listicle. When you sort by what's nearby, distance changes the order, never the score.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
