  1. Rank 4365. Fasano

    Northern Italian

The São Paulo-based Fasano group has been running elegant hotels and restaurants across two continents, and their Midtown fine dining room fits the pattern: high ceilings, soothing proportions, and a menu that moves through northern Italy without apology. The pasta is genuinely the thing to follow here, and the vitello Milanese reminds you why classics became classics. Sophisticated without being stiff, which in Midtown is no small trick.

  2. What started as a farm outside Tampa grew into a daytime kitchen and bakery where the all-day menu runs from biscuits with honey and whipped butter to turkey Reubens and rotating soups. The mac and cheese, particularly the green hog version with pulled pork and green chilis, has its following. A community calendar on the wall keeps track of on-site events, which gives the place the feeling of a neighborhood hub that also happens to bake its own bread.

  3. Rank 4365. Fausto

    Italian

An open hearth warms the dimly lit room at this upscale Italian restaurant on Flatbush, where the sommelier-restaurateur's wine instincts shape the whole experience as much as the kitchen does. The pasta earns its reputation, and the menu leans into Southern Italian regional cooking without making a fuss about it. Bring a date or a small group; the room was built for exactly that kind of unhurried evening.

  4. Fawn is a sit-down restaurant in Cooper-Young with mustard-yellow banquettes, tile floors, and big street-facing windows that make the dining room look like it's been professionally lit. The short menu takes familiar dishes and gives them a passport, so a French onion tartine might show up with oyster mushrooms. Expect a neighborhood crowd dressed one notch above casual. It's a Michelin Guide selected restaurant.

  5. Rank 4365. Fawn Wine & Amaro Bar

    Creative Seafood

Fawn builds its identity around amaro, with a selection deep enough to suggest the staff has opinions about bitterness profiles. It's a seafood wine bar in downtown Decatur where you can drop in for crudos and a glass or commit to a tasting menu that leans into dry-aged fish, fermented everything, and combinations that sound strange until they don't. The Michelin Guide has it listed as a Selected Restaurant.

  6. Scarlet banquettes, a long marble bar, and checkered tile set a confident tone in downtown Memphis before you've even opened the menu. This is a Southern restaurant with a clear point of view, where the kitchen leans into Gulf shrimp, tasso ham, jalapeño cornbread, and fried quail with spiced honey, all without apology. Chef Felicia Suzanne has been at this long enough that the regulars probably know the menu cold, and the room still fills anyway.

  7. Rank 4365. Feliciana Bistrôt and Bar

    Contemporary Bistro

Feliciana is a French bistro in Covington, in a former theater, so the drama now comes mostly from the dessert menu. Sunlight pours into the corner dining room, which has a big curved bar, globe lights, and tile floors. It's white-tablecloth-adjacent without the stiffness, and the Michelin Guide lists it. Dinner can continue upstairs on the rooftop bar and patio, for people who like their night with a staircase.

  8. Rank 4365. Fia

    Italian

Massive pine trees ring the courtyard and string lights do the rest, which goes a long way toward explaining why this Italian-leaning restaurant on Wilshire has been an Angeleno date-night staple forever. The menu reads familiar until it doesn't, local organic produce turning up in directions that surprise. The Amalfi lemon mousse cake with limoncello granita is the kind of dessert you order before you've finished your entree.

    The awards

  9. Rank 4365. Fia Steak

    Steakhouse

The courtyard is the reason to come: massive pines overhead, string lights threaded through the branches, and enough Santa Monica evening air to make you forget the drive on Wilshire. Fia is an Italian steakhouse that leans into the setting with a menu built around local organic produce and the kind of clever touches that sneak up on you. The crowd tends toward people who've been doing this longer than the valet has been alive.

  10. Rank 4365. Fiola Mare

    Italian Seafood

A terrace right on the Potomac makes the room hard to argue with, and regulars who know this book outside before anyone else gets the idea. This is an upscale Italian seafood restaurant where the kitchen takes raw ingredient quality seriously and the service runs like a tight ship. Lunch keeps the bill from getting too philosophical. Chef Matteo Limoli turns out dishes like a liquid cacio e pepe that has no business working as well as it does.

  11. A raw bar seafood spot a short walk from the actual ocean, which feels right. Inside it's sunny, a little loud, and decorated like someone who actually likes the beach rather than someone staging it. Half the menu is oysters, clams, and lobster, and the staff will talk you through it without making you feel slow. The cooking keeps things clean and confident, letting good fish be good fish.

  12. The strip mall setting hides nothing, which is sort of the point: a Sichuan Chinese restaurant in Tampa that saves its drama for the plate. The menu pulls from classic Sichuan technique and the northeastern Chinese heritage of the team, so the range runs wider than you might expect. Portions are serious, and the dry-fried chicken buried in chilies and peppercorns is not subtle. Come hungry and possibly with a cold drink already in hand.

  13. Rank 4365. Flea St. Cafe

    Californian Café

The rooms here were a house before they were a restaurant, and the vibe hasn't drifted far from that. Small spaces, eclectic art on every wall, a cozy front bar, and a seasonal menu that follows what's coming off nearby farms and the coast. The kitchen keeps things simple and ingredient-forward, the kind of cooking that doesn't need explaining. An old-school Menlo Park institution, and a Michelin Selected Restaurant.

    The awards

  14. The team is up before dawn baking trays of fat, fluffy focaccia, and everything else follows from that. This is a sandwich counter, a focaccia-forward one, where the bread lands somewhere between pillow and slab and carries fillings like prime rib with smoked horseradish cream. Half portions exist for those who haven't cleared their schedule. A few outdoor tables and some counter seats round out what is a charmingly low-frills operation. The Michelin Guide has it listed.

  15. Rank 4365. Food Terminal

    Malaysian

Exposed ducts, charcoal-gray walls, and metal chairs set the tone at this Malaysian street food restaurant on Buford Highway, designed to feel like a night market and largely succeeding. The menu is enormous, the portions match it, and everything is built for sharing. The Michelin Guide has it listed, which tracks for a place this comfortable feeding a table of eight without breaking a sweat.

  16. Rank 4365. Forsythia

    Italian

Pasta is the whole point at this cozy Lower East Side fine dining spot, and the set menu makes no apologies for it. Fried cacio e pepe risotto supplì show up early and disappear fast, but the real argument is the agnolotti packed with short rib and tossed in butter. Focaccia arrives warm, the room stays small, and weeknight cooking classes mean the regulars are occasionally trying to take the place home with them.

  17. Rank 4365. Fortu

    Pan-Asian

Pan-Asian dining room at the base of the Ponce de Leon Hotel, with arched mirrors, warm wood, and the kind of sleek lighting that makes everyone look like they made a reservation months ago. The kitchen leans hard into contrast: spicy pork wontons with crispy garlic, carrots in kimchi butter, and Japanese A5 wagyu that quietly upstages every steakhouse nearby. The Michelin Guide has it on their radar.

  18. Rank 4365. Four by Brother Luck

    Modern American

The name is the first thing to deal with: the chef goes by Brother Luck, and the "four" is the number of courses on the prix fixe menu. This is a sit-down dinner of modern Southwestern cooking on Tejon Street, with rabbit, duck, and Colorado lamb in the mix. The service is folksy and the cocktails are inventive, so dress like you're going somewhere but not somewhere stiff. It's a Michelin Guide selected restaurant.

  19. Rank 4365. Frances

    Seasonal Mediterranean

Melissa Perello's neighborhood restaurant on 17th Street is the kind of place that makes you resent everyone who lives within walking distance. The menu is hyper-seasonal and leans Californian-Mediterranean, served family style, with house-made pastas and roasted vegetables doing the heavy lifting instead of anything that comes out of a squeeze bottle. Reservations are genuinely hard to get, but the room is warm and the staff acts like they mean it.

  22. Rank 4365. Genesis House

    Modern Korean

The dining room sits above a showroom of luxury cars, which tells you something about the clientele before you've even looked at the menu. This sleek modern Korean restaurant on the Hudson has sweeping skyline views through floor-to-ceiling glass and serves food that moves between bold and delicate, a long-simmered bone broth here, a bright kimchi brine there. Premium Korean teas round out a serious wine list.

The open kitchen runs on wood fire, which you can smell before you sit down. Golden Hour is a stylish hotel restaurant in Asheville's River Arts District, inside a former cereal factory with dark brick walls, river-view windows, and ceilings tall enough to feel genuinely industrial. The menu leans into small plates, smoked things, and slow-roasted large formats. The kind of room that makes a hotel stay feel like a real night out.

  41. White linen on dark polished wood, a mounted swordfish on the wall, and a bar that fills up fast, Hugo's is a big, old-school Chicago seafood house that has never felt the need to be subtle about any of it. 45. Rank 4365. Il Ritorno

    Italian

The exposed brick and high ceilings in downtown St. Pete signal that this is a proper fine dining Italian room, not a red-sauce joint. Creative pastas lead the menu, with the kitchen leaning into arrangements that look as considered as they taste. Steaks and lamb come from the butcher shop next door, and caviar doughnuts and wagyu show up for anyone who wants to push further. The servers keep the whole thing from taking itself too seriously.

Sukiyaki and shabu-shabu get equal billing here, with A5 Wagyu as the through-line and a table grill waiting at every seat. It's the kind of Japanese hot-pot spot that makes Beverly Hills feel less Beverly Hills, if only for the hour or so it takes to cook through three cuts of premium beef.

    Contemporary Japanese Noodle Shop

Low lights, slow-spinning records, and a menu short enough to fit on a napkin, this Tokyo-style sake bar and vinyl house keeps things deliberately tight. The food runs to gyoza, oysters, hamachi, and a rotating noodle dish, all landing somewhere between comfort and quiet craft. Sake-based cocktails fill out the drinks side, and the room has the kind of unhurried warmth that makes people stay longer than planned.

This neighborhood pizzeria turns out 16-inch pies on sourdough that's made fresh daily, with a blistered, airy, faintly tangy crust that does most of the talking. The menu pairs cheese and vodka pies with Texas-leaning ones, like the poblano. The line is real, so smart regulars pre-order and stroll past it looking relaxed. Casual, counter-service energy, and a Michelin Guide listing that nobody here seems to bring up.

  91. Rank 4365. Lucky Star

    Taiwanese

A Taiwanese café and cocktail bar tucked into a Star Metals office lobby, which sounds like it shouldn't work until you're sitting on a green velvet couch at noon eating a scallion pancake stuffed with braised beef shank. The menu shifts as the day does, coffee and pastries giving way to oyster omelets and rice bowls, then cocktails after dark. A James Beard semifinalist for Best New Bar, it holds a Michelin Guide selection too.

  92. Tucked into the courtyard of the Hammer Museum, Lulu is a seasonal New American restaurant where the menu changes daily and fresh produce stacked around the room is less decor than advance warning. Alice Waters shaped the philosophy here, and it shows: lunch reads like a snapshot of whatever the farms had that morning. The crowd tends toward the between-galleries, notebook-in-bag crowd, which keeps the pace civilized.

  93. Rank 4365. Lumière

    French

The chicken liver mousse comes with olive jam, which tells you exactly what kind of brasserie this is. Lumière sits inside the Fairmont Century Plaza and runs a classic French playbook: fruits de mer, steak frites, a charcuterie spread with aged Iberico hams, crème brûlée done properly. The staff actually know the menu and will talk you through it, which in Los Angeles passes for a minor miracle.

  94. A 1930s building on the Sewanee town strip still stocks local jams and honey up front, and the cafe behind it runs only until afternoon, so the name is a job description. The menu is short and changes with the farms nearby, landing somewhere between a hearty breakfast and a proper lunch, with baked pastries that have a way of undoing whatever restraint you walked in with.

  95. The refrigerators hum louder than the dining room at this bare-bones dumpling shop tucked into the back of a City of Industry strip mall. Water is available if you ask, and the menu makes more sense once you find the poster on the wall. None of that matters much when handmade dumplings arrive with fillings like lamb with fennel or pork with lotus root, and noodles come glossed in scallion oil.

  96. Orange-and-white checkered floors, mustard booths, and paper mâché flowers overhead set the mood at this Vietnamese cookhouse on the Upper East Side. The menu is concise, running from crispy spring rolls to shaking beef and pho, but the pho is the reason the regulars keep coming back, built on a 20-hour broth with five-spice smoked short rib. The kind of room that makes a cold Tuesday feel like a plan.

  97. Rank 4365. Ma•dé

    West Sumatran Indonesian

Knotted ropes hang from the ceiling of this narrow, white-brick room where the West Sumatran tradition of communal eating drives every decision. Ma•dé is a prix-fixe restaurant where nearly the whole meal arrives at once, covering the table in small bowls and plates you navigate in whatever order you like. Son of Jean-Georges, chef Cedric Vongerichten runs the kitchen. The crowd tends toward people who like surprises more than menus.

  98. A warren of small rooms, British paraphernalia on every wall, and a conservatory that opens up when Tampa's weather cooperates: this is an English gastropub that takes the brief seriously. The Sunday roast is a weekly event, the shepherd's pie uses lamb rather than the usual shortcut, and the puff pastry sausage with curry-Dijon mayo lands exactly as good as it sounds. The Michelin Guide has it on their list.

  99. Rank 4365. Madeline

    Contemporary American

Madeline is a small, dimly lit sharing-plates restaurant on East 6th, all dark walls, wood floors, and the low glow of people who have decided not to count dishes. The contemporary American menu nods at a French bistro, then wanders off to Japan and Thailand without telling anyone. Order several things and pass them around, and expect a server to pour a curry sauce over the halibut right at the table. It's listed in the Michelin Guide.

  100. Rank 4365. Madre

    Mediterranean

The carved doors belong to the hotel next door; Madre has its own entrance, and its own agenda. This multi-level Mediterranean restaurant sits at the base of the Franklin Guest House, dressed in industrial bones but cooking with considerably more ambition. The menu drifts between the Mediterranean and Latin America without making a fuss about it, which is a style of self-confidence that suits the room.

      Stay Score

Four fifths of the score is the awards it's won, weighted by who gave them: a Michelin Key outweighs a listicle. The last fifth is where it is: the ranked places to eat and things to do around it, and how safe the country is. When you sort by what's nearby, distance from you changes the order, never the score.

          Best Place Score

The Best Place Score rates the area around a point, not any one place. The places are 60% of it: the best of what's within reach, weighed by distance. The setting is the other 40%: how life goes in that country (how people rate their own lives, how long and how well they live, how safe they are) and what it's like right there (the air, and the weather). If the score looks low, we probably haven't found enough critics out here yet.
